  1. Another highly mediocre (at best) player here. SM False Emperor with L55 IA Op Healer (mostly DPS'ing!) in 172's with HK51 in less.

Stealth class helps to bypass some junk mobs. Key in last battle with Malgus is you HAVE to interrupt "Unlimited Power" cast.

59 in mostly 172s, can't do what y'all can do. Can't even get close.

Part of it is lag. I cannot interrupt anything reliably, nor get out of damage patches. Part of it is absolutely pebkac (I still have the bad habit of instinctively going for sto or league of legends hotkeys, since I'm just back in swtor from a long absence).

The short of it is, I'm sure you do have an easy time of it. I do not. I have tried to get help from others doing the same content and failed in duos. Which twice ended in me no longer teamed and ignored by someone who thought I was afk not lagging... So I know there's at least four other people, similar level with the same problem. As I teamed with them and still failed.

As I mentioned in another thread, i discovered i can even die in solo mode with the combat droid helping if i lag badly enough.

  2. Ah, the Inheritance item thing. It’s not really all that big a deal. I have four of the mainhand tokens and have only turned in one.

As someone mentioned, you get one per toon when completing Chapter 1. Token is Bind on Legacy. It lets you turn it in to those vendors for a ~L14 blue, non-modable (except for the Crystal!) mainhand. The blue stats are somewhat buffed, so it is apparently slightly better than a custom, blue-mod’ed item of the same level. The weapon is also BoL, but is class-specific, and even advanced class-specific (ex: double lightsaber for Consular Shadow only).

You can also buy other Inheritance items (and similar, but ~L31 “Birthright” items) from some vendors as well (Ilum for Basic Comms, fleet HQ for Fleet Comms).

Thanks for the info! If its blue non-moddable, then I pretty much don't mind not getting them.

  3. Thank you for your efforts, know that you are appreciated even if we don't know who you are and don't see everything you do.

Also, add me to the list of people requesting single click report & ignore being account wide. If I ignore them, I want to be ignoring every character on their account (not just legacy, whole account) with every character on my account.

And yes, the emote spam and name spam need to be stopped.

  4. I guess we will see when he is run through by a lightsaber by his own son as chewie and the new cast look on, and then run into the falcon, in an homage to the obi wan death in ep IV...

Ah, so you don't even know the correct spoiler.

Not that anyone does since its all just rumor. And started in 4chan.

  5. Harrison Ford wasn't well known in those days. Was Kurt Russel well known in those days? Why did George go for Harrison and not for Kurt?

Things sure would have been very different if it had been the other way. That's for sure.

Kurt started acting in the '60s and was in just about everything Disney made in the '70s. He had some long term studio contract with Disney that basically meant they controlled what he appeared in not him. But he was mostly typecast as a good guy until quite a while after new hope. He would have been a lot less scoundrel then ford.

  6. I am not convinced of that. I have played all three roles multiple times, and while tanks and healers as characters may kill more slowly, they NEVER have to stop to regenerate health. Healers is obvious, as they can heal on the go between pulls. Tanks a little less obvious, but basically they can take such a beating that they can go through an entire quest of killing and they will be 50% health. The question is how much time does a DPS class spend regenerating because they cannot heal or cannot take a lot of damage versus a healer or tank take to kill mobs.

Player skill comes into play a lot for those comparisons too. Essentially, your comment about playing all three classes makes your anecdote evidence for my point: You are already competent at tanking. Thus you're not a learner or someone who might be discouraged by the mechanics or social aspect of tanking. The issue is getting someone who is new to the role to be willing and able to do it well and enjoy it.

If the goal is to change what percentage of the playerbase plays tanks, then that means people who don't know the role. If they don't know the role, they are necessarily not going to be doing a great job at it. And one of the most common complaints about tanking from new players is soloing.

So, what's the most common advice tossed out to new people having trouble soloing their tank: gear as if a damage class. Riiight. The way we get people to WANT to be a tank, and ENJOY being a tank, is to have them pretend to be damage for 60 levels? This is self destructive. And it certainly doesn't teach them good tanking habits.

So, only recruit people who already know the game and have been playing as damage? In other words, do the exact same thing but more extreme (get them to play a damage class altogether, not just gear as one).

No, the solution has to work for the player that is brand new to MMOs. They have to want to play tanks and have an experience in solo play that teaches them how to use their powers and have fun while doing it without getting jealous of how fast everyone else is killing things. Any solution that does this will also "convert" someone who rolls a tank alt to explore the game in a new way or see a different storyline, or because their guild asks them to, etc.

  7. Unfair! I tried to do a bunch of Hungarian names and it wouldn't let me use any accented characters.

I don't have any advice or help for you, sorry. Just had to express solidarity in the desire for it to work and to use Eastern European names. *fist bump*

  8. Hmmm, same place you got the first? Vendor in Outlaw's Den. But why would you need a second?

I still haven't been to outlaw's den, I got mine in the mission on the downed ship. I want a second because its easier than logging in and out three or four times to move it between characters depending on who I'm playing that day.

But good to know where to find them. Doing a search on "outlaw" on the dulfy guide I found where that actually is mentioned on the page. Not sure how I missed it, but I got the info now. Thank you!

As to HM fp, at level 60 i solod them with a companion, and it was easy ....

I'm sure it was for you. But as I mentioned above, not everyone has the gear, build, familiarity with the missions and ping times to make it easy or even possible.
  9. The flash points are easy peasy at lvl 60 if you are that high.

I call shenanigans. I *am* that high. They are easy if you have the gear, a non-laggy connection, and good reflexes. I have none of those three. >.<

(*stabs oceanic time warner over and over and over and over and over and over*)

Working on the gear though the other two are not happening in this lifetime. ~. ^

  10. Personally, I enjoyed the process of getting the HK, particularly the puzzle aspects on the derelict ship. (I've done it at least 6 times). But, as has been said, once you get HK the first time you can spend credits or CC to unlock it on other characters.

I enjoyed the puzzle mission too. That was really fun. Except the jumping part. Dear god I loathed that bit. Finally used a different character (Jedi shadow) and took advantage of his teleport to marked spot to get back over the water. All the rest of it was very cool. I especially liked the slow reveals about the crew's fate.

The treasure hunt is really annoying due to no feedback on your scanning. Wish they'd quintuple the scanning range so you spent more time triangulating and less guessing. But it is doable, and I do prefer it to "kill a bajillion of these mobs and pray for a lucky drop" that other games use as a grind mechanic.

The flashpoint part... I do not know if I will be able to accomplish at all. Might have to use a sick day so I can log in at a time when other people can help.

On a similar note, how do you use a level 15 character to find the cross-faction piece? Don't they need to be 50+ to start the quest and get the scanner? I couldn't find this answer at dulfy or any forum search.

    @alcorazon, cheers man I'm jealous ^.^

  11. Unless your PC is from 20 years in the future, I would not reccomend playing on anything above minimum graphics in this game. It's poorly optimized, and so much as 1 shadow anywhere makes your FPS tank down to -0. Turn Grass and Tree Quality to 0, turn everything else down to Low/Very Low, except Character Render Distance, that should be at it's highest.

    Err no.

I have an OK computer that's more than two years old now (some acer model intended for gaming). I run on all maxed out settings and the only time I get issues is when my router or my isp craps out.

My buddy who got me to come back to the game does have a stupidly powerful computer and he can dual box swtor plus elder scrolls plus two browser windows and stream Netflix without any fps issues. I want to steal his set up...

  12. Then we would have dps who queue as tanks/heals. Wait... we already have those.

I've tanked in flashpoint where healer ran ahead and was actually dps. I left after few pulls.

I've also seen especially Merc and Sage healers who are dps. They think others don't notice if they just spam some heals. Thing is... I will notice. I have lvl53 heal Mando and I leveled Sage to 42 as heals and I've tried healing (only my companion + randoms on fleet) at level 60.

I am optimistic that the technology being implemented to put a gear check on ranked PvP could be modified down the road to gear check roles for pve queues. Whether or not it does get used for this purpose, is a whole other can of worms.

The core issue, really, is what I listed as social #4. That being the community of mmo players is moving away from groups to more solo focused. The game developers are handling this just as poorly as they handle trying to balance both pve and pvp (which is a massive topic in its own right).

The short version is that anything story driven primarily rewards and encourages soloing. Anything primarily reward driven rewards speed of completion. Tanks and healers speed run slower when solo, discouraging people from playing those roles.

Even back when I was new, before free to play, teaming for flashpoints while leveling was a pain. Most of the player base was at or near max level and grinding end game stuff and complaining there wasn't enough of it. Most attempts to pug ended up begging for a high level to come and speed run the flashpoint out of kindness making roles irrelevant. So everyone got their stuff and went right back to soloing.

Then they hit end game and were forced to team but had barely ever done so for real.

Now, with 12x exp and the huge emphasis on story mode you have a similar effect. People strongly encouraged to learn optimal solo play. Then forced into teams for end game. There is just no way that can end well. The team strategies, roles, and social behaviors (player here, not talking about character) need to be encouraged from the start. By the time a player is running a level 55+ character they are likely to have many bad habits and expectations.

Which is really where a good guild comes in so very handy. Since that helps provide teaming all along the way, plus positive reinforcement for good behavior not just the negative raging from puggers for bad behavior.

I guess that wasn't very short was it? Heh. Oops.

  13. I'm getting really tired of repeating this...

Probably because it only works in PvP.

I could have phrased that section better. Given that two people in a row misread it. Not gonna edit it, since it was quoted twice, but to explain:

It wasn't meant to be a reference to swtor mechanics specifically, and "easy to ignore" was supposed to be a comment on "visually not noticeable compared to big red floating numbers like what damage dealers get in most MMOs".

Which was why I mentioned star treks taunt power: its visually impossible to ignore. You teleport and block damage. It has a big " cool" factor. Most taunts in most games are really easy to overlook. And also why I contrasted it with the shields healers get in many games that put shiny bubbles around their target. Visualy, you just can't ignore them.

Giving tanks more flashy bad a** moves encourages people to play them. Giving all the flashy moves to healers and Damage dealers encourages people to play those roles instead.

That's what I tried (and failed apparently) to say. Any resemblance to specific swtor mechanics was unintentional confusion on my part.

Thanks for catching it though, can't fix the unseen error ^.^

  14. If it's the inheritance gear tokens, the vendors on Coruscant are on the left side of the approach to the Senate tower, before you get to the stairs that go to the underground area in front of the tower. There will be four vendors - one for each basic class type.

Oh I know where the vendors are. They just won't sell me any items. Apparently I'm missing something obvious that I can't figure out.

  15. The Crystal is not silver. Actually there are several different color crystals. What they are talking about is items from the Cartel Market typically have a small Cartel symbol in the bottom left corner of the item icon denoting its rarity. Some are silver colored (rare) and some are gold (even more rare). On average it seems that Silver rarity color crystals with a global unlock, cost about 60cc to activate the global unlock once it has been put into your Collections.

    Thanks for the clarification!

As for the item that you are talking about, I'm not sure. I know that you receive a token for an Inheritance Main Hand weapon at the completion of your Chapter 1 story missions. I do not remember, offhand, if that item (once it is redeemed) is legacy bound or simply BoP, however.

I remember it was added as part of the original legacy implementation and linked to some tutorial mission on legacies. One of my really old characters has tokens for both a mainhand and helmet, but after a few frustrating hours on coruscant I gave up and never tried to redeem them again.

From what I read it seemed the intent was to be bind to account or some version of unlock for account. Because they talked in the popup windows about helping my other characters. Like I said, I never could figure out how to use them.

  16. Thank you so much! Will groups expect me to have a DPS meter? I come from a game where if you don't have certain things you can't join certain groups.

In my experience, groups expect you to already know the mechanics of the mission/flashpoint/operation. That's all. Don't be surprised or discouraged if an individual rude person expects more. Guilds are happier to teach mechanics, and also don't expect addons, but many recommend teamspeak or mumble.

Best place to find info on the team stuff appears to be dulfy.net

  17. Legacy weapon is extremely few and the trouble to get it, just for crystal transfer is not worth it.

Better way is, buy a cartel rare grade (silver) crystal. Unlock it for 60cc account wide.

Unlimited number of that crystal can be collected from collection. Equip for all characters and companions custom weapon/offhand. Even for low level or beginning characters' custom weapon, use and throw.

I don't want silver on any character. Ever. I can't be the only person who dislikes that color.

Also, don't republic characters get a legacy item near the end of the story on coruscant? I know all mine get some token for one, but I'm not sure if that's like a founder perk or something everyone gets.

On the other hand, I've never figured out how to use it.... So I have like 2 dozen of them across all my characters.

  18. Romancing companions is a big hobby of mine since the game launched, so by now I thought I pretty much had most of it all figured out. Yet I have never heard of companions having special conversations at negative affection levels. I'm curious about this, but also skeptical. Maybe they actually do have a few special conversations, but I can't imagine how any of them could be "romance" conversations, since those are only triggered by specific conversation choices that happen at certain (positive) affection (and class story) levels. I suppose it's theoretically possible that you could reach the level required to trigger the romance, then lose affection until you reached the other negative level, but that's the only way I could see this working. If someone has proof of any negative affection conversation cut scenes, please post links so we can see them!

This was my assumption too. Get high enough or far enough to open the potential, then plummet in affection and see something unique. Which is why I was wondering about ways to farm negative affection. Black talon or esseles maybe? Those have a ton of conversations. But its really hard to get more than -1 from a convo.

Male Sith warrior is one of the few gender/class combos I haven't gotten very far in yet, so I can't tell you too much about that. But if you say that you used to be able to marry both Jaesa and Vette, then you still can, since no changes or updates have been made to companion cut scenes since launch.

    .

I'll do some forum searches, but when I was playing before I remember people saying it was blocked. The trick was getting one past the "you must break it off with that other chick" conversation before even starting a romance with the other, then marry the other, then go back and marry the first. I also seem to remember it only works in one direction.

If I remember it right. But like I said, just as I was leaving I remember talking about it being patched out. Lemme see if I can find anything about it.

Incidentally, since you said that you do a lot of the romances, in order to get the legacy unlocks for companions do you need to do the character classes with two romance options twice (one for each)? I've seen conflicting information on that.

  19. Just want to comment on this point...

To me, making conversation choices solely based on the fact that it makes your companion happy, makes for a lot of nonsensical conversations. Choose the option in the wheel that makes the most sense based on whatever character personality you wish to portray.

    <snippity snip snip>

choose a conversation option that results in a -1 affection and that companion is now at 1999).

Once again, you are now the third person to completely miss the purpose. Please check the link above in my original post. Per dulfy four specific companions have romance cutscenes that only unlock at specific negative reputation values.

This thread is not about companion affection in general, it is about unlocking every single cutscene for romance.

Not trying to be snarky or harsh, just trying to prevent a derail ^.^

  20. I'd argue that solo mode is worse than nothing, as you can quite literally do nothing but move to each fight and still eventually win. I don't think it is in any way possible to die so long as SuperDroid! is alive.

I can absolutely confirm it is possible to die in solo mode with the droid active. I have done so myself in multiple different solo missions with him.

Its not easy. But having an internet connection as bad as mine makes all kinds of things possible.

  21. Yeah... How many people actually use the key for security, and how many just want the 100CC each month?

When the collector's edition first went on sale cartel coins didn't exist.

The option for just the key alone was also added before CCS.

Lately I suspect it is the coins that prompt the decision however.
