  1. Thanks Chikun, but what really gets on on the Assassin is HAVING to be at melee range to deal decent DPS.

And thanks also for pointing me to that spec, although I'm not sure it fits the concept... I think I'm capable of coming up with some spec by myself, but there are things I don't even know like, is Corruption effective at self-healing for solo PvE or just for healing others? Are the leeching effects in Madness more powerful in that case? Etc.

Corruption is powerful healing, either yourself or someone else is just a matter of who you've clicked on most recently. Madness self heals are pathetic, one hard casted heal will give you more self healing then 30+ seconds of full time madness dps.

If you want a class that does not use melee, but instead uses force powers then your class is a sorc/sage. Assassin is a melee class, and aside from a few moves will always require melee range to be effective. Even force lightning has a shorter range as an assassin than a sorc.

Lightning is very "unlimited power!" when you have cools rolling, however if you want to be able to tank a few hits as a ranged dps, a merc would be a better option. Sorcs are notoriously squishy. For pve though you'll never notice it, especially in group content (use khem or xalek solo). It only becomes apparent in pvp.

  2. I've been spending a lot more time on my Jugg for PvP. I leveled as Vengeance and loved it, but it's not nearly as effective in PvP, so I switched to Rage.

I have no problem setting up for Smash. I understand the rotation. But I'm having a difficult time getting it to land at least 1/2 the time. It seems like there is a dead zone where it just doesn't hit anyone. I realize this game has some serious sync issues, so where people appear to be on my screen may not actually be the case...but this is kind of silly. Rage spec is a one trick pony that relies completely on the AoE Smash for it's DPS, and if it's not hitting, then what's the point?

Is there some secret that I'm missing here?

As you know, smash's damage is tied to the animation, however the animation is not tied to your location. If you move while you're mid air, the actual aoe will still hit about where you were when you first pushed the button, not necessarily where you land once the animation is finished.

So if you're trying to hit someone running away from you with a smash, you'll generally miss unless they're sufficiently slowed. Unfortunately smash can be doubly hard to land because in addition to the above problem, if you're cced mid animation (and its a long animation) the damage never lands.

The way damage is so tied to animations in the game is frustrating, silly, and a hallmark of both terrible design and a bad engine. I've never played an mmo with an issue like this before. WHY does damage have to be tied to animations (especially when the dont even complete 1/10 of the time).

  3. I am a immortal tank spec warrior, in full tank pvp gear. I know i'm not suppossed to kill anyone, that isnt my job, my job is to harrass, taunt, guard, and slow the enemies, while lasting quite awhile. but why exactly is it that maras and sentinels pwn me like there is no tomorrow...i'm not joking literally today i went from full health like 17.5k i believe,-- to dead in around 4 hits from a sentinel. I'm like wtfowyma? So atleast against maras/sent, not only is my damge gimp from being a tank...i'm gimp from being a tank.

Does anybody out there have any advice on what to do. Thank you for your help.

Sentinels have two trees that have ways to get around armor. Watchman (anihilation), is centered around burns which bypass armor, and combat (carnage) has an ability called precision strike / gore on a 15 sec cd that makes all attacks preformed within the next few gcds have 100% armor pen. Both trees have amazing burst potential that they time around those abilities allowing them to take down high armored targets.

As a sentinel I can say that if you're dieing in 4 seconds (which is obviously hyperbole, but I digress) its probably against combat/carnage during a precision slash. Since you're unfamiliar with the class I wont go into detail on how we burst exactly, but I will say that if we have precision slash up you cannot let us get a full master strike / ravage off. If you do let us get the full 3 hits, it will easily take 40% of your health.

If you ever need to limit a sentinels damage (say against a healer, or in a 1v1), make sure to always save force push, choke, or backhand when you see one start casting master strike (and of course dont let them get full resolve until master strike is on cd). It wont neuter our damage, but it will prevent some huge burst.

  4. I find it odd that all the Jedi robes in this game have hoods while the Sith robes do not. I found this odd because in the movies / books / tv shows the Sith used hoods while the Jedi had them but did not use them.

Will there ever be an option to remove / put on a hood or will they just leave it as is??

I do wish sith had more dark flowing robes. Kind of like what Darth Maul wore when he fought Qui gon on tattoine.

  5. You've probably beaten him by now. But as you know the fight is actually 3 separate engagements. The easiest way to cheese it is to heal up, and wait on all of your cool downs (even your heroic moment if you need too) before you talk to him the second, and third time.
  6. Hi there. I had been a combat sentinel until 30, then switched to watchman, and never looked back. However, it seemed liked combat is better now than it was. I was getting bored of using cauterize and overload all the time, so I decided to Combat a try again, because of the increased accuracy, speeds, and roots. However, I do not know how to play combat, especially with combat trance, blade storm, precision, and blade rush. Please help me understand rotations and how to use the new skills. I only play PvP, besides dailies of course.

    Thanks for the help.

If you're still around 30, dont both with combat. The spec is terrible until 40, bare minimum. The spec doesnt really start to shine until around 45-47. I strongly suggest sticking with watchman until that point.

  7. Kolto Probe sucks really bad in pvp, the heal output is utter trash compared to the other healing skills.

    Discuss.

You're flat out wrong. I've broken 500k plenty of times, and kolto probe has been at least 200k of it. Its a proactive heal designed to smooth out incoming damage, and excels at healing groups. providing it will heal for its entire duration, its your strongest hitting heal, as well as your most efficient (when refreshing). Its not meant to save someone under heavy pressure, thats what surgical spam is for.

Kolto probe is amazing, and I would delete my operative (seriously) were it for some reason taken away, and I pvp exclusively.

  8. +1

    DPS Sorcs are now unplayable.

PVE -- Their dps is the lowest of all classes.

PvP -- Our burst is sad. Paper paper thin even in War Hero. A single stun we can go from 100 to zero.

Luckily, Guild Wars 2 is open soon for everyone this game burned.

Sorc pve dps is acutally the 3rd highest. Lightning is right behind annihilation mara and lethality sniper. Everyone thinks their class is terrible. I mean, I had a sniper in general chat today that told me (in a very condescending way), that lethality snipers are bottom of the barrel dps after I mentioned they were doing well do someone else.

That particular guy was usually very nice too.

  9. As someone who has pvped competitively for the last 7 years in various mmos, I personally list it as a must have talent, especially for watchman which is more focus starved then combat. I would bump it down to "optional" if it only procced off of direct damage, but a focus generator that procs off of dots and aoe, as well as direct damage? Can't live without it.

There is no such this as too much focus. For watchman it means more merciless slashes, and for combat its just one more cd spent on blade rush instead of strike (which also translates to more opportune strikes). Sad part about it is you have to give up stagger which is a total bummer for watchman (which has a much harder time landing full duration master strikes, and is more easily kited).

If rebuke was a 2 min cooldown, even a 1.5 minute cooldown, I would take stagger over it. But over the course of a medium length game, crusader alone will give you at least 20 extra focus. Thats either 4 merc slashes, or 10-15 more blade rushes. It allows me to burst much more often, on demand.

Its an amazing talent. However given that I pvp exclusively in most all mmos, I cant really speak for pve.

  10. What is the point of talking to your teamates like they're garbage everytime you are losing or lose a warzone??? is that suppose to make me wanna play better??? More importantly, is it possile the other team is just..... oh, i don't know....um..... BETTER!!!! No one ever considers the other team being better geared or just better players period.

Quit the badmouthing and have fun. I'm sorry that you "elites" have to have 7 other players bring you down, but i'll ask Bioware if you can get a "YOU Vs 8" queue going in 1.4.

I reserve the right to complain when everybody goes mid on alderaan. Nevermind you why I didnt go left. I gots to pew man.

  11. ohai,

This is my first vid so i hope you'll enjoy. Comments are more then welcome, and if you think vid is bad/boring/whatever, can you tell me why b4 i make another one :p

    enjoy

I do have a poor connection so I can only view the video at 360p without buffering for 20 minutes, but the large letter boxing really hurts the video. I can't really tell whats going on with the giant black frame. Can you reupload it without it? :)

  12. I'm getting 350k games all the time and war hero mercs and ops are a ***** to kill, and impossible to solo with guard. Sorcs are more susceptible to burst, but they can still tank me too. TTK is too low, no doubt about that, but if you buffed heals to compensate you would have unkillable healers.

2 healers and a guard (or two)? You're not taking them down without 3-5 people, and thats the way it should be.

  13. For now, stick to watchman. Its much easier to put out numbers than combat. Combat you have to keep track of several buffs, when ataru procs, and opportune strike in addition to everything else you normally have to do as a sentinel. As watchman, the only things you need to do is overload saber > cauterize, always leave enough focus for merciless slash, master strike when appropriate, and hit zen whenever you have bleeds on your target. If you cant do any of those things I just listed (for whatever reason), hit zealous strike or strike.

As for staying alive, always hit rebuke when something even looks at you (its also a focus generator), saber ward early, and always save your medpack for after guarded by the force.

Those 9 or so things aren't that demanding, just have to commit it to muscle memory. Combat, is a little different.

  14. My frustration doesn't come from keybinds, it's just the overwhelming amount of abilities I figure I need to keep at the ready.

I mean you have to consider, I am coming from DPS specs like Arsenal Merc, Balance Sage, and Assault Vanguard. You hardly need more than 12 things EVER in those specs at level 50. I'm mid 20s and I have that already.

Just at 23 alone, I have:

    2 Different Centering consumers

    Force Leap

    2 Different Force Generators

    4 Different Force Consumers

    Master Strike

    Force Sweep

    Interrupt

    2 Diffferent Defensive abilities

...and I know that I still have at least one more Centering Consumer, 1-2 more Force Consumers, and a couple DPS cooldowns still coming at the very least. Compared to my previous DPS classes, this is by and large the most complicated in making sure I get my rotations right in order to do a good job, which at the moment I know I am not (I only average ~45k damage in WZs currently while my Sage and Vanguard were almost always on top and over 100k regularly while leveling).

I've been playing pvp in mmos competitively for going on 7 years now. The best advice I can give you is just keep on playing. Don't think about what keys to press, just keep your keybinds consistent, (for instance my biggest hitter is usually 5 on melee classes, and my aoe is usually e). The more you play the more it becomes muscle memory.

Muscle memory is key. If you ever need to look at your bars to see what is keybound to whatever, you'll never have success. It needs to be automatic, and it only becomes automatic if you stop thinking and just play.

For playing multiple classes like you do, it also helps if you group your abilities on your bars efficiently. For example, I always keep my heals on the left side of the bottom bar, I always keep my defensive cool downs to the right side of the bottom bar. I keep non essential stuff on the left bar, and my utility on the right side of my main bar.

It really helps if you play multiple classes like we do, if your stun break is in the same position on all your classes. That way, instead of searching for it, you always know where to glance to check its cd, even when playing different characters.

Sentinel is one of those classes that's just going to click, it will be awkward one hour, then it will start to flow the next.

  15. I really dislike scoundrel animations, so operative was an easy choice for me. I also prefer sniper to gunslinger, but it was the lesser of two evils. shiving people is a lot more appealing than hitting them with the butt of my gun. Its like, if you're gonna do something like that you might as well just shoot the guy...

Theres also the practical purpose of slow release medpack vs kolto probe. Kolto probes hover around the target for the duration of the heal, while slow release only flashes green every 2 seconds or so. The probes make it easier to see who has the buff in warzones (I don't feel as if I have to stare at raid frames every second of the match that way).

Plus its entertaining seeing 5 probes swirl around someone after they comment on them.

  16. Hi, the title says Vengeance PVP help.

If you are looking to pvp with JUGG its with rage. I levelled up as vengeance and raid with vengeance. in PVP it is garbage. Some people argue about this, that is fine if they want to convince themselves, but i tried it every possible way. PVP is never about sitting on your opponent. The best PVP context is to Burst, control, Burst, control... over and over. That is exactly what rage does.

I do lvl 50 dailies quests much easier as Rage then with Vengeance aswell. Here are a few tricks with the rage spec:

lets say you encounter a pack of 4-5 mobs, 2 elites and 2 silver guys. you can kill them as rage spec, but you will never as vengeance with equal gear.

With rage, you open up with enrage (builds 4 stacks of shockwave) + charge and smash. At my level and gear thats 6000 crit to all 4 mobs.

then put you force crush dot on one of the elite and press Fear.. basically you take no damage for 5 secs until the next charge is ready.

Obliterate the elite you dotted (he wont be feared) and smash again when ready for 6000 damage to everyone.

then finish off lower mobs, use choke to give time to Quinn to heal you.

basically the best advice i can give you, is to pvp and quests as Rage doing this routine.

While rage is definitely more gear friendly, vengeance is not anywhere NEAR garbage, pve or pvp.

  17. As someone who has both a 50 sentinel and a 50 jugg, I have to say the better experience was jugg hands down.

The sentinel felt cliche, predictable, dry, and just plain boring. You never feel like you have choice, the story is just one big repetitive "save planet ____ from another goofy doomsday weapon" after another. The warrior on the other had (while having a unremarkable act 2 admittedly) had several occasions where you just stared at your screen wondering what choice to make (the only class to do it better was the agent imo). Moral decisions were not black and white, it left plenty of room for role play. The warrior's plot did however start to trail off after act 1, and while it did deliver a very strong, emotionally satisfying ending, the later parts were very predictable (which I believe to have a certain charm, your character felt determined, like he/she had a destiny to fulfill).

The knight on the other hand had none of this.

I will say however that the knight has the most interesting companions in the game (I have 2 50s, a 48 and a 43) out of all the classes I've played, and the warrior had two companions that are absolutely boring and uninspired (broonmark and pierce). The knight also had a very strong act 2 climax that really made me go "wow!". However the ending to both act 1 and act 3 were unmemorable and lame, polar opposite of the warrior who's act 1 and act 3 were both amazing with a boring act 2 in the middle.

    My 2 cents.

  18. So you're basically saying that you're losing the majority of your sorc encounters? :D

What's your sccess rate against dps mercs?

I honestly don't play my sentinel much, its more like I win against the majority of my sentinel encounters on my sorc. When I am playing my sent however, the difference between a good sorc and a bad sorc is really huge. Some sorcs I just cannot kill 1v1 if they play it well. Sarcasm aside, mercs are lawl.

It was like rogue vs mage in wow (back in burning crusade, things are different now). On my mage I would beat about 90% of my rogue encounters (in fact I 2v1ed two rogues at 1850 back when), it felt like a hard counter. But against some of my glad level friends I just could not touch no matter what I tried. I was a 2k player back then, and I'm a 2.2k player now so I feel at least somewhat qualified to make pvp balance judgements.

sent vs sorc is pretty balanced (and honestly in the sorc's favor, especially if the sentinel is watchman/annihilation). Its only when you have something else helping close the gap that the sentinel has an advantage.

1v1 sentinel vs sorc is balanced. When you have 5peo

  19. As someone who has a 50 jugg, a 50 sentinel, 48 operative, and 42 sorc, I can honeslty say sentinels are just not as crazy as you make them out to be, a sorc can kite a single mara like crazy. They get one gap closer (not counting predation) and you have a snare and 3-5 ways to create distance on <1 min cd.

A mara should never beat a sorc 1v1. They're only really a problem if they have lots of support.

The class you should be complaining about is PT.
