  1. Very well said! I support your choice to do this just as much as I support players taking time to teach new people the Ops. I especially agree with the suggestion that players looking for HM/NiM join a guild...that's where they'll get the most help...not PuGing.

I don't mind explaining / teaching people tactics on SM as my mindset going into those operations is that there will be people in the group that hasn't done it before. And if someone messes up, it's not a big deal / wipe. HM / NiM is something entirely different.

  2. I've done NiM of all the operations at content level (IIRC correctly I have around 96% on the Operation Achievements - missing some 16 man ones). I'm not an elitist - I don't care how people play this game. This is especially true for SM operations.

I usually PUG HMs everyday, but am very selective of who I invite to the group. And yes, I check their achievements before inviting them to the group (the exception is if a person is recommended by someone I know / have raided with previously). There are several reasons for this:

    1) I don't want to spend 3+ hours on an operation that should take 1 hours max (DF / DP).

    2) I don't want to wipe all night long.

    3) I don't want to pay a 200k repair bill.

    4) I don't want to carry an entitled noob through content they are not ready for. ¨

    5) It gets really frustrating to wipe repeatedly on a "simple" boss that I've killed a million times before due to the same person messing up tactics / putting out the numbers required.

    6) I want to have fun, and wiping ten times on a boss is not fun for me (unless it is a progression raid).

    7) I don't want to explain every single boss encounter in detail for the people who haven't done it before (example is what we do on the 3rd boss in DP: "Group 1, left. Group 2, right. Tank him by the door". Now imagine having to explain the tactics in detail to someone who hasn't done it before. Hell, what about the DP council? That would take ages).

All of these are MY choices, and it really doesn't affect how YOU want to play your game. If you want to take the step up to HM / NiM - find a PVE guild, join them, play with them and learn the content at your own pace. Don't expect a random person in a MMO to drag you a long content that you have not done before.

EDIT: Besides, removing access to see others achievements would not solve the issue. You would regardless get kicked out of the group if you kept messing up tactics

  3. That's over complicated, just have everyone blow up one and have the tank that doesn't get hit because you blew up the first pick up the other one when the other tank takes the knock back.

I'm not talking about the first set of Dismantlers, but the second set when there are 4 adds at the back (bulwark, affliction dude, lightning dude and the healing dude iirc) that needs to be killed before Dismantlers. Remember this was with the nightmare buff and in 180 gear.

Nowadays it's just facerolling the keyboard and they are dead.

EDIT: Anyways, he said it was impossible to kill the Dismantlers without the DPS tanking them. I proved him wrong. Nothing is impossible :)

  4. It is impossible to kill both Dismantlers at Draxus Nim in time for the tanks not to get kicked and one-shotted (being in the minimum required gear), so DPS have to offtank them for the first few seconds

    I overlooked this.

We cleared Draxus NiM with the Nightmare buff (and with minimum required gear - 180s and some 186s) with 2 tanks, 4 DPS and 2 healers. One tank grabbed aggro on one Dismantler and taunted the other one -> used shroud for the first knockback -> second tank (the one on Draxus) AOE taunted when they did their second knockback -> first tank taunted back the one that did knockback on tank 2. So yes, it was possible to kill them without having DPS tanking.

  5. You skipped Braxx the Bloodhound

Again, I would like to know what I should do in that fight better to hold aggro on dogs when DDs are focusing them. You know you can only Guard one DD? Use a taunt? Immune, also you need that taunt.

That's a FP and it's a mechanic that the dps / healers have to kite the dogs as they have a random aggro table.

  6. No, DPS ARE supposed to tank the adds at Sparky HM. Why? The stacks won't disappear like they do in SM. Even the best tank can not be healed through Brutalize when he has 50-100 stacks.

Or try to tank the dogs at Mandalorian Raiders 1st boss.

Do you like to get one-shotted by the fingers in Brontes HM/Nim '6-finger phase'?

Do you like to have all your taunts miss at Bulo HM after taking you 2nd barrel?

Then show me the tank that can keep aggro of ALL AND EVERY boss and adds at Revanite Commanders HM.

Draxus (HM/Nim) first add wave is 8 subteroths, 3 exploding clode to each other will most likely kill the tank, 4 are a guaranteed kill. You want to have both tanks take 2 and each of the dps one.

It is impossible to kill both Dismantlers at Draxus Nim in time for the tanks not to get kicked and one-shotted (being in the minimum required gear), so DPS have to offtank them for the first few seconds.

True, there are some mechanics that won't allow the tank to take care of the adds - but in most of the fights a good tank will keep aggro on (almost) everything.

    To run down your examples:

Sparky HM: the off tank picks up the adds every time. Their spawn rate aligns with your taunt CD so it should not be a problem.

Brontes NiM: ? I don't know what you are getting at here. DPS / healers need to stack at a finger and rotate after the knockback. It's a mechanic.

Bulo HM: One tank takes the first barrage and kills the adds without a barrel (everyone stakes up, tank moves away to the top). Second spawn - kill them with barrage. Tank takes the third barrel.

Draxus NiM (I cleared this fight pre nerf): Juggernaut tank takes all subteroths -> saber reflect -> intercede when it runs out. Assassin tank -> shroud. PT tanks swap.

Revanite commanders: Tanks can stun / slow a lost of the adds

EDIT: I really couldnt pay attention to what that was babbling about as he 1) ran lethality for Brontes, 2) all the people dying at the transition in SM and 3) him messing up his rotation so badly.

  7. Part 2 of the question is are all 3 classes (so no matter what I pick) equally as good once I leave beginner territory? Like, for example, if I pick sorc will it be good beyond being easy to manage resources.

It depends if you are content with doing FP or SM operations. If so - then yes - it does not matter which class you pick. However, if you are interested in progression at content level, then I would say that a commando / mercenary healer is the best.

  8. With the use of 'mods' to mean all three slots but also the name of the one specific slot and based on the differentiation made by that statement: I want to make sure that the recommendation is specifically to use B-Mods (the specific slot) vs. B-mods (Mods and Enhancements)?

Use lettered mods for that specific slot (ie Deflecting 38B mod or Weighted 38B mod) and the high mitigation enhancement (ie Sturdiness enhancement 38).

    Hope that made it clearer.

  9. KBN said it, so I'm inclined simply to take it on faith, but--is this true in every situation?

For the current tier and how the damage profile is set up - yes.

My personal experience (please correct me if I'm wrong).

In the previous tier (DF / DP NiM) the boss fights had several small attacks in quick succession that could be mitigated - meaning that it was more beneficial to go with a full mitigation build since you could shield / absorb a fair number of attacks. While in this tier (Rav / ToS HM) the boss fights have fewer, but bigger attacks that can not be mitigated (ie I/E). Having more HP will give you a buffer against those types of attacks.

Simply put; with B-mods you are trading mitigation stat for endurance at a 1:1 rate, while with enhancement (Immunity / Sturdiness vs. Bulwark / Bastion) the trade off is + 26 endurance for + 29 main so using B-mods is better than using endurance enhancements. Another thing is (for PT tanks at least) - the Ultimate Commendation earpiece / implants are very good since they give + 44 / - 47.

For reference, my PT tank sits at around 57k HP in 198 gear.

  10. Interesting thought, and there are fights where tanks actually (should) do it. The thing is: If a dps or heal get swarmed by adds in PvE, you don't swap guard for it. You AoE taunt ;)

But on fights like Brontes NiM for example, it was a common tactic to guard dps for the first few phases and then switch guard to a healer during the laser/droid phase transition. This way, healers rarely got aggro from Brontes and get punted around in the last phase, making it easier on the healers. At least that's ho I'm used to do it.

Yeah. I feel like guard swapping (and interceding) in PVE is underutilized. I consider them a tool in the toolbox, and during progression I always try to make things easier and get that little extra edge. During raids I always keep an eye on the operations frame, and see if someone is taking damage and swap around my guard. Example is Revan first floor where HK has a tendency to snipe the healers. Another is (was) on Nefra NiM where I would intercede my co-tank and AOE taunt.

My two cents is that tanks should keep an eye on the operations frame and swap guard accordingly. Don't just smack guard on someone and let it be - use it as a tool.

  11. Interesting discussion.

Come to think of it - I have a crazy idea about guarding in PVE.

How about if the tank - wait for it - actually guard swaps..? I know, I know, it's sounds like a hazzle and requires raid awareness and clicking...but just think about it. Maybe guard that bursty DPS that doesn't know he has a aggro drop at the start of the fight, and then maybe swap guards during the fight depending on the situation? Like ie. a healer / DPS is getting overwhelmed by adds on Sparky HM - you swap guards to that person (and intercede). I know - it sounds totally crazy, but maybe give it a shot?

  12. What I find funny is that Dxun is all like #bringtheplayernottheclass, but every time something glitches out / bugs out - they are all there with their FOTM classes. Example was last time with the low slash bug; regs on TRE were full of Dxun FOTM shadow premades (and still are). Not to mention using exploits to kill bosses in PVE. Takes pure skill.

In other news, I killed the Monolith today as a sorc. #bringtheplayernottheclass

  13. wow. U mad bro. U do not know.

We did cora first. For the first 2 months we had maby 10 pulls on revan.

We have only bin rely on revan 4 the last 2/3 weeks. So from a raid group standpoint, not to shaby.

and we were, like many guids, having roster problems. so ur small rant. U DONT KNOW

Dont know the math, but dident u guys have more uptime on core thanks to the staking of BH when Hydro workt on everything b4 thy buft that?

As in gear, i am stil rocking the 192 mainhand and 2 192 mods and 1 enhancement. That is wat happens wen u are in a guild that is not fanatical at being world first. U rotate players, let others experience the content. The trill of killing a boss only a hand full of ppl on the server have kild. and u let them have the gear, thy need it more.

Maby that is wy we are stil going strong and u are, wel.. not.

The comp is the same one we had in the group 4 ever, wat ever the player wants to bring. we did not compromise and went with FoTm and i am prowd of that. Sent plays sent cos he enjoys it, same 4 shadow dps. The ppl how don it with suboptimal comps said them selfs thy only did it cos thy did it b4 with mostly BH, We did not.

My sig? is 10 hours old. had a very boring one b4 that. Is it boasting? maby. Am i prowd of what i have done in this game? U bet ur *** i am. Noting in it is a lie. Why are u mad i am stating the truth.

Let me ask u, Is killing revan less of a achievement cos 20 guids don it b4 u? Is becoming a doctor, engineer,... less of a achievement cos millions of ppl have don it b4 u. No its not.

U have quit this game. Ur opinion no longer matters. The trophy is a paperweight.

    English. Do you speak it?

  14. From what I've noticed:

    - Taunt will have no effect on Torque if you taunt during his Wookie Rage channel and shortly after. I usually wait 1 second after his channel finishes before taunting him.

    - Bulo will swtich targets between the two players that have highest aggro on him. Both tanks need to chain there taunts (expecially at the start) so they are at the top of the aggro table.
