  1. Matter of taste I think...wife and I unsubbed today, finally, for lack of innovation. Bugs can be fixed, classes balanced etc but if the game just isn't fun for us(!), then there is no point :/

I agree with some of the above regarding an uncertain future. F2P will of course increase player numbers so it could be a good thing but hard to say overall how that switch will affect the game and its direction.

  2. It's not what is keeping the game alive at all that's just silly.

Star Wars and Bioware ARE why the game sold 2.4 million copies its first week. That's all an IP can really do is bring people in.

The gameplay and stories are what is keeping the game alive. If people hated the gameplay they would just leave. Look at SWG. People left because the game sucked. Those that stayed didn't do it because it was Star Wars but because it was the only true Sandbox MMO out.

    IP draws people in

    Gameplay storys keep players.

Speak for yourself. Personally, SW is what drew me in and the only reason Im still around though interest is fading for a while already.

I still cling a bit to the hope that one day they may actually make something cool out of this game...mostly because there neither is a different SW MMO (anymore) nor can I imagine a new one to come along the next 5-10 years.

The subscription fee doesnt hurt me so I can just ignore that Im wasting a bit of money while hardly logging in (after the other 6 of my buddies who joined up with me already quit) but without SW I dont think I would.

  3. Its again sad I think because this could have so much potential and feels sloppy in the end...

The story/creative part I really like...the news terminal, the cutscenes, gathering the stuff, being pushed around on airvents, maning a cannon etc...great!

Then there's the technical aspect of having 50 guys sitting on a clicky you need...or a laser that you need to adjust while every new guy showing up, ruins your setting again. Not impossible to overcome..eventually..but not fun.

And last, there are almost worthless rewards. At first I was curious and even my wife came back for the event (wasnt playing for 2 months or so) but after seeing the list we simply logged out and played something else. The speeder would have been nice if not only in a tier 1 version (I already get two speeders on all new chars, one being faster)...the pet, matter of taste but I think its ugly.

I'm not really trying to complain because like others pointed out...its free, I dont have to do the event (I dont) and it does not cause any problems if I merely want to play the actual game...its just sad, like it "could have been" cool(er).

Didnt expect omg-killer rewards but from what I could tell, my casual, quest gear only sniper had a better weapon. Oh well, nice of them to try at least.

  4. No it's more like this:

"•Space Combat – We will continue to add missions to the space game. We also have a special project going on right now that will expand space gameplay in a significant way... for now the details will have to remain under wraps."

It's in the "What's next for The Old Republic" thing.

But thats the thing isnt it? "expand space gameplay in a significant way"...for some this translates into free-flight space sim (which I'd love to see). Though there is no reason to trust in this interpretation unless you are totally happy and impressed with biowares service/game so far.

For all I know that could mean I can buy new paintjobs for my ships...with cartel coins! :) Or maybe they just add pvp and/or coop to the existing space battles.

Seriously...I wanted a full space sim from the start but my lack of faith by now is..well, you know...

  5. And nothing.

Also oh noes QUEUES to wait and play?!?!? I would rather wait 20mins and have a full server then get in immediately and play on a dead server.

While I basically agree, I see up to 1.5 to 2 hour queues lately (EU) and I have some sympathy for people who simply do not have that kind of time. Also I think some of them would rather play on a dead server than not at all.

  6. I wouldn't say I feel cheated but quite underwhelmed? Never cared for the statue and expected/hoped for lots of nice fluff stuff, at least over time. Since you can even buy your entry to the VIP area for a mere million I think (not that there is anything going on there) it wasn't worth it for me.
  7. While I had prefered they space people out a little bit more, I'd say give it 2-3 weeks. At the moment many people are back to see how it feels on a full server, to get back into their guilds etc. It will go down some again shortly (and then you'll be glad they didnt move less people there)
  8. personally i think a duel sub/f2p system similar to lotro would be great for this game, while i dont presume to know what sort of cap or shop should be available for items or content for f2p players i think it is a ideal game with the storys to do this duel system on.

my server hydian way has 4 to 6 players on most planets and about 20 on fleet on republic side its shocking, i would happily have the servers bursting with f2p players playing the game as more money means maybe more updates and maybe better sub numbers, anything that benefits the game and players is got to be a good option, going f2p isnt the disaster that the doomsayers say, i sure wish warhammer had gone f2p 2 years ago though

When I was subbed to Lotro (lifetime later on) I had a similar oppinion but there are two things that made me doubt my enthusiasm for F2P. For one, I did not notice much difference when it comes to updates (keeping in mind that the move to f2p slowed everything down for a long time) so I don't believe the idea of more money>more content.

Also, while you saw huge number of people show up and our little guild grew nicely, you had a new problem. In the past, be it for raids, questing or whatever you had mostly two things to ask for a) class/role and b) level.

Now on top you had c) do you have it unlocked.

Imagine smaller guilds where half the people unlock Correlia while some unlock Ilum and grind up to it (skipping correlia)...or you want to do FPs but everybody unlocks them in different order...some only want the top ones, others start at the bottom.

I'm not totally against F2P but my experience in Lotro were somewhat mixed :/

  9. I really cant understand why so many people are unsubscribing... I mean this is a GREAT game, why are people leaving? There are many things that we are missing i know that, but that dont make this game bad? I enjoy the hell out of it, i can only play in weekends and i always look forward to getting home to play it. I really dont want so many people to leave, i really dont want this game to go under :( There are no other mmorpg out there that appeals to me, im tired of middle aged magic games, and i couldnt stand wow it was way to boring. Although i will be playing gw2 i also want to keep on playing swtor, so please dont judge this game so quickly, dont leave just because there is 1 or 2 things you hate...

I think the problem is also that we don't marry TOR, so if this lil b* annoys us, asks for too much patience, ppl say f* u and walk to the next one :D Seriously now, I'm trying to keep up faith and stick around but with new MMOs appearing, its always a certain level of temptation, especially if you have certain grips with a game.

  10. Nor does it mean you are getting the value that you pay for if you pay a subscription. If you pay a sub, you should be getting those things in game without having to put up EXTRA cash. Perfect example of this is the C-Store in Star Trek Online. You can sub OR play for free but in order to get many ships in the game you have to put up real cash even above and beyond if you are paying the subscription. Sorry, but the house is stacked against the user. Free to play is a scam and so are item shops that sell pixels for real cash.

So in my particular example, what do you suggest? That Bioware allows us unlimited (ok, say 16) character slots for free? Or say they have reason not to do that...and also not to add a store, to never allow more than 8?

  11. Lost 5 of 8. I expected 3 of 8, even though none of them are related to Star Wars, unless they were from some book I'd never heard of. One of them I'd bet the house I'd lose (my Smuggler named Kirk). The other one I thought I'd lose was a less common pop culture reference, but I still figured it would be gone ( my Trooper Hudson). I figured one other just for bad luck, but 5 total really surprised me. None of my other names are from any other big pop culture icons (or any pop culture reference for that matter), so I guess I was just really unlucky.

Lost both Legacy names, but both were just Latin words, so not really all that surprised that I lost both.

LOL @ the people cancelling over losing a stupid name. Obviously it's not that special or unique.

While I wont quit over it, I don't laugh about those people either. Of course it is not end of the world sort of extinction level event to come up with new names but it's extremely frustrating.

See, in all the online games I played over like 10-15 years, I always came late to the party..meaning the first few dozen names I wanted were always taken. With SWTOR, I made sure I pre-ordered, made sure to take off on 13.12. (and some more days), kept following the forums, refreshing, trying and made it in for wave 2 - first 10 minutes was rushing to get all the names I always wanted (about 4 or 5 that are important to me) and it was all worth the stress and effort.

I didn't think it would be fair to now go through all sorts of other servers and block them for strangers there, afterall, who could have thought that after half a year it comes to this here :(

  12. All I am going to say, other than "I quit" is that this is pretty damn pathetic that Bioware is gonna go the f2p micro-transactions rout after only 6 months. This is the part where they, like so many other MMOs and their companies, admit they can not bring to us the game we all asked for. This is the part where they admit to themselves that they should not have place space combat on rails. This is the part where they admit to themselves that they should have fixed all those sound issues. This is the part that they admit to themselves that they should have had a finished product upon release. This is the part where they wish they had made gear that actually looks like Star Wars gear and not some rendition of Age of Conan. This is the part where they admit to themselves that loading screens are bad bad bad bad bad....LOADING SCREENS ARE BAD....and so are planets or zones that restrict you to trails and paths and do not allow for real exploration! This is the part where Bioware admits to themselves that they, like so many other MMO companies, were not ready to make an online MMO, that they honestly had no fricken clue what Online MMO players expected out of an MMO.

F2P and micro-transactions. How pathetic Bioware. All you guys trying to convince yourselves that this is a good thing? Sounds to me like you are trying to placate yourselves, cause you're not convincing me.

F2P means, "I quit, time to sell the game to Perfect World and move on to the next project."

I share some of your views if not to this extend. However, an attached store does not mean F2P - I would actually love to see micro transactions right now to buy character slots :/

  13. Your right, they do, but to play the game like normal you pay $15 a month, if you like spending extra cash on chaff that really does nothing at all then you pay more, there are no REAL advantages to the things you can buy. Its not like you can pay $100 for full end game gear. Most is mounts, xp boosts, stims, things like that....

The process is still the same.

Now here comes the philosophical discussion of ingame advantages or fluff-only - do you remember the rage prior/during the time lotro went f2p?

I don't think anyone really has a problem with a store that 100% only sells fluff items but when they introduced potions in the store that were better than what you could get ingame (or was it that they had a seperate CD? been a while) the forums burned.

Yes, its not a BIG advantage and I personally did not care but any attached store will always be in some shade of grey, never "no advantage whatsover" or "buy max char with all gear" (ok, the later may be possible in some of the asian mmos, not sure)

  14. that's not true, if memory serves correct those games offer more than cosmetic, i know for a fact ddo does, pretty sure lotro is the same

While I quit lotro a while back (well, I got lifetime sub so quiting is relative), I do remember some of the best potions were in the store only. I did not find it dramatic but you saw the same outrage.."they promised only cosmetics, not p2win!" etc

  15. Any EC PVP servers not being designated to fatman will basically be dead on arrival. It will feel horribly second class watching all the other EC PVP servers go to the chosen one while we get stuck on server X. Tomorrow, they need to just put all the remaining EC PVP servers into fatman and get on with it. The remaining EC PVP servers combined don't even have half of fatmans population :(

Have a look at EU pvp (english)...just about all move to one destination and the remaing ones will certainly follow soon (17 moved to 1, 4 open if I counted right)

  16. In my account where you can transfer it shows a button "pre-select servers" behind this one:

The Exile's Crystal to Tomb of Freedon Nadd (correct, I have chars on Exiles) but behind

Hex Droid I dont have such a button though I got chars there too...is that correct?

Both are alts that I dont care for but once my "main" server comes up, I may have the same problem...

Also, 17 EN pvp servers as origin moving into Freedon Nadd? Thats only 4 missing which can only mean ALL 20+ move onto exactly 1 server...

  17. I'm a bit concerned about EU/EN PVP servers - you guys have Fatman, we have Freedon Nadd (though not quite is full). So far 8 from 21 servers are going into Freedon Nadd...making it look like a) all go into one (all EU/EN pvp) which is silly to do in waves then...or b), there will be one more (but not two) destination servers...and honestly, even if they take the remaning 12(?) servers and join them, it still wont be impressive I think...
  18. Jov, the question should be how are you guys going to handle all these still open low population servers with new subscribers? Seems that they will remain open and if so, this problem will come back up again over the course of a few months. Are there any plans to force transfer and close servers down to keep populations up?

I've been wondering too - as much as us all here are needing the transfers (well, cept those on the few full servers), as much is it bad publicity to show 90% light servers or to simply shut servers down. On the other hand I don't see many new customers pick "light" either.
