I understand your point, but sometimes you shoot back defensively also. I would say have the ability do a small amount of damage or none at all would be fine with me or even just a "spray and pray" type of thing.

Pre-50 mercs are truly dangerous. After 50 mercs are truly respawning because as soon as anyone see you, you're dead.
