  1. Those are some good ideas. An HD remake of the original kotors would be VERY good. I dont know whats up with Lucasarts. They've dropped all of their big ips and give us force unleashed and kinect starwars...oh and a slew of clone wars games.
  2. They CAN be compared. I'm not talking about actual gameplay, obviously. I was comparing them in terms of improvement. STO has improved, and, in my opinion, more playable than TOR. My point was this: If TOR can make HALF the improvements STO has, it will succeed. If it doesn't, TOR will fail.
  3. I was just using trek as a refrence as it is what is usually compared with star wars. The fact of the matter is this. The game was rushed. the game is broken. Some say GW2 is overhyped. thats not true at all. And even if it is, atleast arena net can deliever. I'm not saying GW2 will be flawless, but the difference between swtor and gw2 is that their respective publishers will allow the developers the time they need. If that were allowed for SWTOR, we would be playing a much better game. But of course, we get an uncompleted game. Again, not that its terrible, it was just way overhyped. MMO of the year? Yeah, right. I still have hope for this game, it may be good. But if they continue to ignore the game base, I promise you, this game will fail. They've met their objective in getting everyone to play the game. If they truly dont care (which I hope they dont) they will just continue to collect money until this tor-tanic sinks.
  4. I've found that the cons in STO aren't gameplay related, but more of "free subscriber" related. The limit they put on characters and chat is redonk. But still, I find it...I don't want to say better. but more finely crafted game. Like I said, SWTOR isn't bad, I just don't feel inclined to play it. With improvements, It could be great. I just hope that Bioware doesn't get complacent. The bugs needs to be fixed. Everything needs to be improved.
  5. Hold on, fanboys. This isn't a thread about how much better star trek online is than starwars. It is just a simple comparasion. This thread isn't meant to make you go out and download trek, it's just meant for us to realize that TOR needs some major improvements. Now, about Star Trek online. As many of you know, Star Trek Online (Which I will abbreviate into STO from now on) Has gone free to play. I downloaded it, and was immediately blown away. The character customization is immense. You are even given the option to craft your own alien species. You pick your class (Which, to be honest, are more or less the same) and go on to name your ship. As the game continues, you gather more ensigns (companions) and even have the ability to customize your companions. The big sell point was space battles. They are hetic, fun, and beautifully rendered. You really do feel like your actions have an impact in the galaxy, you are given missions that arent all the same and are against many different enemies. Now, on to TOR... Let me say that this game is good. But taking into thought that it took 5+ years to develop and over 100 MILLION dollars to make, it's not THAT good. For me, this is the second dissapointing bioware game after DRAGON AGE II. That being said, it's not as BAD as dragon age II, infact, it's not bad at all. But it needs to make some major enhancements if it's going to survive. 1. Customize companions. weapons and armour are fine, but if we were able to customize the cosmetic features of our companions, they become OUR creation, and make them all that more fun to manage and tweak. There is really no reason why this shouldn't be an option. 2. Dyes. Seriously?? Dyes are a simple item that ALL MMOS have. The ability ( or lack, thereof) of being able to dye your clothing is unforgiveable 3. PVP. Pvp is fun, again, I don't HATE this game. (I still pay for it) but to launch a game with THREE maps (Huttball, Alderann, Space battle) is disgusting. non-instanced pvp is fun, but there are usually not alot of people to find if you travel to the marked zones. More maps need to be added. No MMO would even think about launching with this paltry amount. Star wars needs to update. REALLY needs to update, because with huge mmos coming out this year (Guild wars 2, for example) I sense it will loose alot of subs to these heavy hitters. I think they released an unfinished game, and depended on the star wars name to sell (A la Kotor 2, anyone?) That being said, I do enjoy this game. I realize that yes, it is a launch title, and its early in its lifespan, but if you compete with a game that has been on the market for over 5 years, and has mountains of content, why wouldn't you develop and expand on those features for your game at launch? it's like releasing a car without an airbag, but then telling the customer (Oh, yes, well, the other car has airbags now, but we will have airbags in a year. don't worry). All in all, TOR has hope. But that hope is dwindling. Compared to Star Trek, it has a long way to go. But, this doesn't mean STO is BETTER than star trek. I don't believe that. But compared with features, STO comes out way on top. Star wars TOR is not bad, again, but compared to it's budget, and its AAA level development, it should be MUCH better. And to those who say I'm trolling? Stop. Trolling is if I had NEVER played the game and have a prejudice towards it. I bought the game, pay the fee, I deserve to complain about lackluster features. We were promised a ground-breaking innovative game that would rock the MMO world. Of course, SWTOR is nothing like that. Next to its WoW rip off gameplay and zero replayability, the only thing "Innovative" is the voice acting. Which I could go without. If I had a choice between voice acting and better features/gameplay, I would pick gameplay/features every time. There is NO reason why this game didn't have more features out of the box. People use the "Oh its an mmo, its EVOLVING" But in reality, that's false. You make a COMPLETE game with COMPLETE FEATURES EXPECTED. it doesn't matter than games launched back in 2005 didnt have these features. The fact is GAMES LAUNCHING NOW have most of the gameplay elements pvp maps etc that SWTOR doesnt. Character creation is a mediocre. Story is bland. Gameplay is fun, but there are basically only 4 professions and many of them play the same. The weapon limitation KILLS replay value. The game should have followed KOTORS gameplay, in which you can use whatever weapon you want as long as you spec for it. It would def help with replay value, and further character customization. Again, there is no real reason for weapon limitations, especially as in this game, most weapons could really be used by ANY character (aside from lightsabers, of course).
  6. I've been hearing alot of talk about this subject. Many people are pushing for the ability to be able to summon more than one companion. I am inclined to agree with this sentiment. It wouldn't make the game "easier" as some say (In guild wars, you can have 2+ companions, but the game was still diffcult. What made it fun, however, was the feeling of having a complete team. You had your healer, tank, dps, etc etc. I feel like bioware wanted people to group together instead of using their companions- But obviously the game doesn't play like that, since most people ONLY use their companions. DO you think Bioware should add the ability to have two companions in update 1.2?
  7. It's still early 2012, and so far, the only star wars game (for consoles) looks like it's going to be kinect star wars. (Which quite honestly looks terrible). What type of game would you want to see from lucasarts announced this year? FPS? RPG? Fighting game? Action adventure? Kids game? Another RTS title?
  8. I noticed that they have removed the fan fiction section in the forums. I was just wondering what is a good site to post star-wars themed fan fiction that will be read/reviewed.
  9. I was wondering who the strongest non-jedi character would be. I'm not only factoring strength, but intellect, tools, weapons etc etc. I mean, this character would have to be able to atleast incatacipate a jedi. There's a few characters I can think of right now: Boba Fett General Grevious Durge Jango Fett Canderous Ordo Chewbacca? I think any of these characters would give any force user a huge problem.
  10. x.x...haha did anyone bother to read what i had written above? xD we all said the same thing eight times...
  11. I want to destroy this false belief here and now. I've been hearing this alot lately, and I think the only way to address this problem is by making a new thread about it. So, on with the problem. Many people believe that the galaxy bioware has portrayed in SWTOR is "too advanced", saying that the clothes, armor, weapons, and even titles (Such as Moff) and buildings (The jedi temple portrayed in the cgi trailer) are too advanced for the time period the game takes place in. But it isn't. The problem is this: For most people, the star wars legacy begins at KOTOR 1. Kotor 1 and 2 are the oldest (in starwars' timeline) media that we have seen so far. Sure, in-game they go into the infinite empire, but for the most part, when you think of 1000+ BBY, you think of Kotor. So, if you believed that the technology shown in Kotor was the "oldest" of star wars, It would seem ludicrous that 300 years later the technology we see would match the par of the movies. But, as I will continue, you will see this is not the case. In the tales of the jedi series, it showcases primitive and simple technology. It takes place before Kotor, and in images that take place before TOTJ, the tech is even less advanced. (Some jedi used lightsabers with cables attached to battery packs). Technology INCREASED from this time, having become more and more developed and effective. But then, after the cold war, the galaxy entered a dark age, in which technology was greatly reduced, and the advancements made were lost to the new sith wars. (Some warriors in this conflict even used spears and pikes). After the war, the republic slowly rebuilt itself until finally, it matched the splendor that we see in the movies and in this game. All in all, we see the galaxy at its finest in this game, having built upon primitive tech. After which, the galaxy degrades, and is then able to rebuild itself.
  12. Like others have said, it's for the familiarity of the franchises. Republic troopers are going to look like clones because everyone associates republic fighters as clone troopers. For the kids playing the game, they are going to want to look like a clone trooper fighting for the republic... Which isn't bad, I think the armour designs are good for what they are. That being said, I think they did a good job of retaining the iconic star wars "look" while still mangaging to make the designs look different. I mean, it would be lazy if they simply "took" the design of the star destroyer and used it "in-game". If you want to see what the star wars galaxy looked 4000 bby and later, I suggest you read the tales of the jedi series. They did a really good job at designing the galaxy to look primitive. As an in-series answer to your question, They had to make this galaxy THIS advanced. This is the zenith of technology. After this, the republic "dark ages" begins. Then the new sith wars, during which some had actually reverted to pikes and swords. So bravo, bioware, on doing your homework in star wars lore. I see no problem with this game being "too advanced"
