  1. Looking to run on highest quality possible and get best FPS in warzones.

    My laptop is also an ASUS, with an i7 @2.4GHz 4700HQ & GTX 950M (2GB GDDR3 VRAM) + 2x4GB DDR3 @1920x1080p 17"

Can run GTAV, Skyrim, Guild Wars 2, Final Fantasy XIV, Batman Arkham Asylum, Divinity Original Sin etc on a mix of high and very high (with the most costly video settings being off ofc) settings and still get 60FPS. Even easier if you overclock the GPU a bit.

Welp. In SWTOR though... on maxed out settings or the lowest, firstly the game barely looks better (aside for shadows & high shaders which both cost quite some perf though in some areas) , secondly, even if you can keep (and you will) 60+ FPS in the wild questing one vs A.I. mobs ... Once you drop in a warzone in a 8vs8 environment, once the action is started and everyone uses skills to buff up or fight, your framerate will tank to an averaged 18-23 FPS lol. Can rises up back to 40 ish or so when alone afking defending a node ... But as soon as you'll fight you'll see 7-15 fps

So give it up, at least you'll be able to run better looking and more modern games at very high or maxed settings :)

& btw on my desktop I got an i5 6600k @ 4.2 GHz & a nvidia GTX 980 Ti 6GB GDDR4 @1250 MHz, game still runs horribly in PvP (like it still drops down to 15 fps in heavy combat before going back up towards 40-60 when doing nothing (like respawning or the 1min warzone intros). It's like the game gets bottlenecked by the server or the file swapping process (as the game is actually TWO 32 BITS PROCESSES thus with the usual 32 bits limitations) in addition to being poorly coded (*ahem* unfinished second hand bough Hero Engine * ahem*)).

And having an i7 with 4 physical cores + 4 hyperthreads @100 higher HMz compared to an i5's 4 physical cores (no hyper threading) is barely gonna be noticeable on a laptop anyway since the game isn't coded to use more cpu powers with more cores, it just splits the damn load on each core accordingly. So dual core, core2duo, i5 or i7 it won't change much. As said even with a top 5 desktop cpu with overclocking too (still runs at 40°C and not even at more than 30% load lol) game still runs like a bad slideshow in warzones. It's a bit better in 4vs4 matches, But not by much..

Even with a 4820 crazy 1300$ CPU overclocked to heavens the game WILL NOT RUN AT 60+ FPS IN WARZONES, EVER, NEVER

  2. well my sub is lapsing in a few days and i will not be renewing; and i refunse to play this game without a sub, which means im leaving...

Though, its not because of this pack change, its because the state of the game is realyl bad and the devs are only looking for ways to cash grab rather than add meaningful content and create a good product..

    a m e n

  3. I've said this for a long time while playing this game:

While I do enjoy the story elements of this game, I don't think they did them the right way.

The way they handled the story content is contradictory to that of how an MMO is supposed to work. It's like the devs wanted to make a single player campaign, but were forced into making an MMO.

A proper story driven MMO needs to incorporate the community and the virtual society within the game. It can't be encased into a closed off world for 1 single player.

    Agreed entirely

I just wanted to chime in here and mention that we're *always* looking at the performance of the game, including the UI. It's never something we push to the side.

One thing to keep in mind though when you turn off the UI with control+U you're not just turning off the UI, you're turning off any logic that has to deal with displaying it, so there will always be some frame gain by doing that.

We have some ideas we're looking into for UI performance improvements now; nothing definite yet. It is something we're always keeping in mind and looking at ways to improve it.

Oh look, another bland post from another yellow poster that has since then long been inactive :D

On topic: Give it up, they are N E V E R gonna fix this mess of an engine

They can't even if they wanted to spend multipe millions on it, they'd have to start from scratch again.

Well, start from scratch altogether, as they didn't even craft the engine themselves but bought it second hand before it was even complete from the Hero Engine team (which since then completed it, but they got dismissed when offering help to BioWare and can no longer help as they butchered the code to finish it for rushed release in 2011 :p )

  5. I'm asking this question to everyone seriously.

Do you think you could go through the game with orange armor with no mods from 1-55?

I'm trying to gauge exactly how easy is easy.

Someone managed to get to lv40 ish solo, without a companion, with the base lv 10 starter gear :D

    So...

Upgrading gear / mods or using a companion breaks the game it seems

  6. I will mess around in Final Fantasy with my friends who left SWTOR for other games long ago, play some Heroes of the Storm (a MOBA) and other things... probably check out Star Citizen when it comes out as it is beautiful and the concept for it interests me.

Final Fantasy XIV is still as good as ever (I'm too tired with the vertical grinding and have no plan on resuming it, my Dark Knight item lvel 180 from early July is good enough for me lol, I will resume it when they add more content to catch up to so I don't run out of things to do in a month).

I didn't check too much Heroes of the Storm (that's Blizz' take on the MOBA genre right? It didn't seem too different than LoL or Dota so yeah... From the online revenue rankings I saw earlier this week it doesn't seem to be as successful as others but maybe it IS good afterall ^^ I'm just done with WoW and Warcraft as a whole. And Starcraft & Diablo too)

Star Citizen ! Can't wait for it ! I took a look at EVE & Elite Dangerous but meh ... I will also wait for Star Citizen :D

  7. It's going the same way as wow with everything being made easy and no fun, which is also why most people left it years ago.

Might as well not bother playing the pathetically easy game and watch all the cutscenes on youtube for free.

This. It seems every online game now tries to cater to Candy Crush Saga and Farmville addicts by making everything easy as hell to entice them into playing their game (and later on pay for DLC/ Skins / mounts etc)

Remember back when we had ONE LIFE and one hit would kill us, and we had no save, no passwords (NES & GameBoy era)? Pepperidge farm remembers :D

  8. Still no spiritual successors to SWG that are being done by large accomplished dev teams on the horizon. A sandbox where playing in the world was your end game and you could choose what that was whether RP, PVP, Crafting, Decorating, City Building, or PVE ( granted no raids but still was some challenge )

SWG as it was when it closed with a better ground combat engine would have been awesome. Star Citizen will likely be my next MMO. Was excited for EQ-Next but the dirth of information there has lowered expectations quite a bit.

Not sure if you heard about it/checked it out already, but there is "The Repopulation" which is in the works (using the real Hero Engine, not an incomplete failure tweaked by BioWare Austin :D ) which a lot of people talk about (great crafting system and open world sandbox).

Having never played SWG (or SWGEmu (yet)) I can't comment on the similarities or differences though. ;)

  9. Lol that reminded me of EQ2 back in the day. One of the Community devs had a hllarious sense of humor and, before they were ridiculously desperate for cash, one of the community leads would replace every reference of "beastlord" with "Rick Astley" on the official forums. made me chuckle.

Damn, I wish I had played EQ2... Probably cause I was barely 18 when WoW launched and thus I jumped right into it, ignoring the classic EQ2 in the process... I wish I didn't.

It's nice to hear they had some guys like that that ran the game :D

    Humor FTW :)

  10. They'll do exactly what they've done with other games / franchises, they'll make a financial based decision depending on various factors. The question is, are EA capable of learning from previous mistakes? They pretty much killed the Command and Conquer franchise years ago when they altered the fundamental game play style of a solid RTS (after C&C3, which they pushed heavily and tried the eSports route).

EA is capable of financing, however I'm pretty sure they fail heavily at understanding what the customer actually wants. It certainly isn't the altering of a genre to become something completely different, it didn't work with other genres, and doubtful it would work for this type of game.

Anyway, history has a habit of repeating itself, so expect Austin and SWTOR to go the way of the dodo eventually. It's only a question of time, and how quickly Austin can push the demise of the game by making unfavourable changes and ignoring customers.

Spot on. I have no doubts this game could have been much better if it hadn't be for E.A. :(

  11. Subscription Plans

You have 1 day of subscription play time remaining.

I'm not sure why you are confused? Unless you're just trolling... but surely you can do better than that? After tomorrow I won't even be able to respond to your nonsense. Maybe you should wait until then? Or is that not as satisfying?

Just ignore him he's notorious for only posting troll posts :D

Wish you good luck & have fun for whatever you're gonna do next. Are you gonna try one of those 'new' hyped MMORPGs such as Black Desert Online, Blade and Soul, Skyforge? :rak_02:

    __________

    EDIT

Happy New Year all! May the force be with you in 2016 and always!

Happy New Year to you too :)

  12. I will try Black Desert. I read the pvp in Black Desert is good and female models are good proportions.

I only plan to play BD if the pvp is better than in swtor. However, I read that BD has very little if no PvE..

Yeah female (and male) models are really great, lots of details, and you can customize EVERYTHING

    As you can see here:

It seems like that game is really graphically awesome and the combat seems to be delivering too. Apparently you *can* level up just doing 'quests' (which are just "go kill 50 boars" most of the time though :D ) ... So we shall see.

But yeah, it seems there is VERY LITTLE IF NOT NOTHING AT ALL in the PvE department ...

I took a look at Skyforge which I also had on my radar and... While it's looking nice and also has lots of customization for your character creation .... It's heavily instanced and HEAVILY GRINDY lol. You pretty much just grind dungeons 24/7 until you cap your thingie per week (spark? Forgot the name of the currency used) which is used to progress on the giant skill tree / sphere grid to grind classes and get new ones, improve the ones you already have access to etc...

So yeah, two of the games I had on following seem to be having limitations and irks (imo) right off the start :( :( :(

  13. I heard Black Desert was pretty okay, but the Asian developer's view kind has me skeptical, but when is the exact launch date?

P.S. This video makes me think it will tank here

Thanks a lot for this video review!

It was very interesting and helpful. I'm still not sure if I should go back to Final Fantasy XIV (kinda bored of the constant vertical grind and too used to the whole franchise I think =/)

Or maybe give a good fair try for Guild Wars 2 (which I find much more graphically and design-wise appealing) but I'm not sure I'm gonna enjoy the 10 skills per class (+5 per weapon on swap) in a no tank/healer/dps trinity... It seems the world vs world battles and regular 'battlegrounds' are quite a mess. And pve wise... Took them 3 years to add a raid (and a Taunt skill) so not sure how it will be on my enjoyment scale. Also, if all the good looking armors are cash shop only like here it's gonna be a pain to get something decent :rak_01:

Maybe I'll give The Secret World a try... Hum

I do have Blade and Soul, Devilian, Black Desert Online on watch, along The Repopulation. So we shall see ^_^

I ordered my i5 6600K 3.5 GHz quadcore with a GeForce 980 ti 6GB DDR5 & 2x4 GB DDR4 + SSD 250 GB with Windows 7 x64. Can't wait to go back to my most demanding games (GTA V, Skyrim, The Witcher 3, Divinity Original Sin, Guild Wars 2) and be able to max them on Ultra at 100+ fps :D

That's why I keep an eye on Black Desert Online cause it looks incredible and I shouldn't have issues to run it soon =)

  14. Honestly, how did Bioware ever expect their story driven mmo idea to actually work? They spent hundreds of millions of dollars and years and years of work to produce the core game that had the actual class stories. Which people consumed in a month and then wanted to know when it would be continued...

There is no way in hell to progress 8 class stories forward with their own individual unique sequels in an mmo. It takes way to much time and way to much money. And after you finally release it your consumer base will beat it in a week or two and want more again.

It was a nice idea to try to merge Bioware games with WoW to create a lasting story *cough* money train * cough*, but this game really should have just been KOTOR 3. That way you can choose to play as whatever you want, and then also have massive replayability. Then by the time the game gets beaten to death you release the DLC with new stories and **** and everyone is happy.

Look at what we have now. It is *********** pathetic. I am the biggest baddest Sith Juggernaut destroyer *********** pimp in the galaxy! Now I am hiding on a planet trying to put together a ****** rebel alliance. What in the ****?!

    Give this man a medal.

    Agreed 100%.

  15. I agree with pretty well everything in this post.... But I have this to add..

I am now immortal, irrelevant in battle, and frequently text during boss fights... I realize having only run a Mara since 4.0, that I do not understand the mechanics of the class at all because now I am trying to recruit Pierce by running PVP very badly 20 times and wow am I ever not immortal. I PVP a lot, with my other toons (some even have season titles) and it was never this miserable because I got to understand the mechanics of them while PVE was something that could kill you.

Making the game retardedly easy is making a whole new class of players who don't actually know how to play... but then maybe they really did nerf Maras... Having not played the class before, I have no idea.

Exactly. There is currently one dude QQ'ing on the PvP forums that he gets exploded in 4 hits (at 1300 exp) :D

  16. Class balance is not the issue here im afraid, it is solely gear and skill/knowledge about the game. If you are facing a fully geared x class who knows what he is doing you obviously going to get rekt. Nuff said.

Working as intended. I came back after a 4 years break and had no issue in my basic orange 178 gear bolstered to 63K HP & 1936 EXP. It sure was easier to kill healers 1vs1 when I was in full starter pvp gear (index 204? 208? w/e) AND starting to remove some stupid Accuracy to get more Crit.

You don't even have to pay for full pieces of gear if you want to customize your current gear now, they chew that piece of work for you with the mods vendor selling the particular mods you might wanna swap into your gear :)

  17. The player character IS voiced in KotFE. The player character is NOT voiced in Alliance oriented missions following the completion of Chapter IX. It's a crummy design choice that I hope they don't continue with, but the actual main story content of the expansion (all of the alliance stuff afterward is optional as far as main story progression is concerned, as far as I can tell) is obviously fully voiced as evidenced by the multiple gameplay videos they showed beforehand.

Again, the non-voiced parts of the Alliance stuff is a pretty crummy design choice that I hope they reverse for future installments but freaking out as if the entire expansion isn't voiced is a huge knee-jerk reaction. It's just the Alliance side content that got the "Classic KOTOR style!" treatment and given the reaction to it, I don't think they're going to go any further with it like using it for the main story.

Oh somehow I missed that reply. Well, still pretty sad. I liked my little conversations with my crew.

Wait, I thought you magically lost all your old crew in KotFE, don't you?
