  1. Hold on there... you just cast out a whole lot of assumptions specifically to make the numbers look lower.

First of all, use the full 9% (lets use 10% because its easy math and I'm lazy) - because they could use Boot Camp for steam too, but they don't.

Second, consider the full revenue for the box sales... that's what other numbers are calculated by. Not cost.

Third, count an annual subscription for each purchaser. It's not just box sales with a subscription MMO.

This puts you at an annual revenue from Mac users for TOR at $12,000,000 (box sales), $36,000,000 (sub revenue) or a total of $48million dollars in year one revenue from Mac users alone. And you cannot tell me that expense wouldn't be paid off in the first few months. it would cost nowhere near that to do a Mac port.

I have been through this for more than 3 years. I've seen every argument and calculation, and proven them all wrong.

EA was absolutely wrong in their decision, the Mac version would absolutely be profitable, and as a shareholder I've expressed my dissatisfaction directly as well.

Money is being left on the table, or more specifically lining the pockets of our largest competitor.

You guys are assuming all 10% (which i think is too high a number) will buy SWTOR. Keep in mind, gamers don't all buy every single game released. It be safer to take that number and cut it in half. So 8%, lets say 4% at best. I still think that number is too high.

Stat counters show 8% total MAC OS market share. It just doesn't make good business sense to develop for Mac OS. Which is why MAC OS software is far and few between.

Blizzard is a nice company, also a somewhat of a Mac-loving company. Most game development companies never release MAC OS at the same time as the PC version, it is usually a delayed release if at all.

Look at Blackberry, higher market share then MAC OS comparatively, yet such a small number of Apps compared to iOS. Same principle. This has nothing to do with hate or love. Just isn't simply worth it at this point in time. We will probably see a MAC OS client a year or 2 down the road.

  2. They are doing a Mac client.

The products Apple makes are what most people want going forward. The days of the mainstream are here, and the old-school "IT" guy (as the above poster) who tinkers with his machine just to get it to run for 20 minutes are over. No one wants that, and developers are certainly not targeting those who do.

    Good luck.

By your logic, iPhone and the iPad are trash, because they sell so many of them?

Run for 20 minutes, I dont even understand that comment? The ENTIRE E-commerce world runs on Windows... I am pretty sure if it was a un-useable, unstable, unreliable platform the business world would be unable to funcation. It is amazzing how well the Apple brand brian washes people.

  3. Far more than ever.

I've never been able to understand why though? You pay 2x more for the EXACT same hardware, usually worse specs. The only way to jusify it is to actually believe the MAC OS operating system worth that insanely inflated cost. Which it isn't.

Apple seems to be able to convice the near-retarded computer users that Apple is some magical OS that never crashes and never get viruses (why write virsues for an OS no on uses... thats the real reason). Most people with a brain laugh and go buy a real machine.

Being in the IT industry I cannot bring myself to buy an Apple computer, I feel like someone is stealling half my money when I do so.

  4. Actually it's closer to 20%, but, whatever.

Incorrect, go do some research. The highest numbers show about 14.04%, however when you average out all the statcounters to get the most accurate esimtate. You get 8.92%

Windows has an install base of 1.25 billion Windows machines. Apple may be doing well in the mobile space for the time being, but when it comes to devices that do more then watch youtube videos. Microsoft is still king.

  5. They will return to WoW and the future of Panda's when they see they are not to be found here in this galaxy that is far far far away from being completed.

Definitely impossible to compete with a game of 12+ years of develop (About 5 years to make and 7 years of patches)

SWTOR has 6 years under its belt. No matter todays technology, it still takes time to developmenet games.

HOWEVER, SWTOR definitely has way more potiental than WoW. Which is why I canceled my WoW sub and put in 6 months for SWTOR.

  6. My wife is giving it a try right now with me! We both started Republics together (I already have 50 sith sorc). We both played WoW together for a few years. I told her this game is way more fun, especially the leveling.. probably 100x more fun actually.

We shall see what she thinks! :)

  7. I am going to be honest here. I have yet to run into any player on my busy server who has said they do not enjoy the game. As a previous poster mentioned. It is the same 100 forum posters posting the same dooms day responses over and over. The majority of the population is having a blast!
  8. I hope you're aware that GW2 is going console, and has confirmed that it's just a hack-n-slash RPG built for the console audience instead of the "messiah" it was promising itself to be. Those of us who lived through the GW1 hype as the game that would make WoW's entire model obsolete (yes, in 2004 people were claiming WOW would have to go Free-to-Play, funny how that turned out) were already aware it was writing a ticket it could never pay.

It's always the way - the unreleased MMOs claiming they're going to "remove the grind, eliminate the holy trinity and balance PVP"... that somehow vanish and are replaced with a steaming pile of reality when they're released.

Anyway, SWTOR is basically the only MMO out there that's worth playing right now. RIFT is trying to build a bridge to 1999, WoW pulled the talent after ULDUAR and the directionless content is showing that everyone who has any decent ideas is working on Titan. GW2 is going to be a console game and an absolute disaster. TERA is down to 15 servers after a year of running itself into the ground, and mired in legal and technical issues that will prevent anything decent from ever seeing our shores in the US (see Aion).

    SWTOR is it folks.

And frankly? It's a fine game. I like it, I have been having fun, the issues I have seen since launch have been slowly-but-surely resolved. There are some things that need to be fixed - bugs, class balance, performance issues, yes... but as far as MMOs at this point from launch go? I'm impressed.

    Well said.

  9. Yes and No, Voice over is indeed a good thing although some Voice acts are mediocre at best.

Bioware story telling, well Dragon Age Origins was good story telling, Dragon Age 2 was a disgrace for everyone caring about story...same goes with Mass Effect which was great but Mass Effect 2 was a disaster.

Oh yes and anyone being a bit deeper into Starwars lore can't enjoy this game since there are a lot of flaws

If you like rainbow effects and animations who don't match your actual doing then i guess you could like it.

Sorry but where are those amazing environments? All i see is repeated and reused unoriginal areas. There is even no day and night cycle. Not to mention the graphics...which are ermmmm....

With 0 customization options and absolutely no use except from space missions and travelling...

There is close to 0 interaction with the companions...another feature added without being developped seriously...

Leveling is "fun" when you lvl your first character, after that it becomes boring since there are no alternative leveling areas.

Don't get me wrong i'm not a hater, i still enjoy the game but i think people need to stay realistic on what they write.

Troll is troll I guess. Interesting how these are opinions yet you act as if you can argue them away?. Can't wait for all these hater's/troll's subs to run out so we don't have to read made-up garbage or non-construtive negative comments.

  10. Loving the game. I am also subbed for 6 months. Main reason what keep me playing.

Voice over + Bioware story telling + Starwars IP = Freakin Awesome

Extreme attention to detail in combat and effects

    Amazing envoriments

I have my own freakin starship!

    Companions are freakin awesome

    Leveling is actually fun

I could keep going, but I'll leave it at that for now.

  11. I am a huge supporter of this game, and love it to death. I have no problems on my server population wise... however I would like to see more people. I love MMOs to feel crowded... just busting at the seams with lively activity! :)

So with that said, I am a huge supporter of maxed out servers. Merge them!!, max them out!! Most people play MMOs to be around tons of people... hence why they play an MMO!!.

  12. Interestingly enough Blizzard added better Fire, water effects, and Quad core support to their MMO Engine way way after game launch.

Yet people for some reason think Bioware won't be able to improve the changes needed in this engine.... seriously people wake up. When it comes to programming, anything can be changed. They have made huge improvements over ability delay over the short time it has been released. I'd take a guess in a short few months most major issues will all be addressed.... just like WoW's were.

  13. Any programing Gurus know if this games engine and the way its coded will be saved? Just an honest question. Love the game just hope it will be alot smoother for some with less hardware and better all around. or is it doomed where it stands?

People seem rather confused on what a Game Engine is. Please read this to inform yourself.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Game_engine

I have seen some laughable posts talking about "game engine" problems and that they "cannot be fixed". If you actually understand what a game engine is.. you'd understand that when it comes to code, anything and everything can be changed or fixed.

My programming Guru friend use to run a RUNUO server (Ultima Online Free Server). RUNUO was the game engine. The RUNUO game engine had/has several issues, my friend ended up re-coding 70% of the engine.

Last time I checked, Bioware has coders. And last time I checked, code can be changed.

People need to stop worrying about the Game Engine. WoW's Game Engine had many issues when it first launched. Now it is one of the smoothest and most staple MMO engines out there. Bioware can do whatever they want to this Game Engine, and build it up to be as good or better then any other MMO Engine.

  14. Great post.

Agree 100%... I played WoW from Beta until Cata release. This game has blown me away. Story is so important to me, gives meaning to what I am doing. Somewhat "grind-ish" play can turn into extremely entertaining when there is some meaning behind it.

Bioware, keep kicking ***, but also, keep improving. Fix bugs, add great end game content... add some much needed features (LFG), and I'll be subbed to this game for years.
