  1. This thread hits on one of the main reasons I will be unsubbing. (My time expires on July 26th.)

I bought CE mainly for the in-game store. I didn't give a crap about the statue and didn't even open it or the book that came with.

I watched one of the dev videos and heard them promise to continue to keep updating the cosmetic 'fluff' in there regularly before the game even launched, so when I got to look in there and saw how sparse it was, I figured 'What the heck, they'll keep updating it.' so I threw down for 6 months. Now my time is almost over, and all they've added is a single 'pet' that costs more credits than most of my characters even have...

This, combined with the dead servers, and the empty 'We're giving you more Soon' promises, has killed the game for me. I server transferred my characters so they'll hopefully be on a lively server if I ever come back, but I went and paid for a lifetime subscription for STO instead and haven't even played my characters over here since like 2 weeks ago.

My hopes for this game were crushed, and I sure do feel like I wasted the money on CE. (I won't ask for a refund because the Khem Val armor customization from CE store got used multiple times by me....over like 20 characters...so at least it was somewhat useful...I didn't have to look at the nude ugly beast.)

  2. Its F2P... so you don't even have to worry about trail periods. ;) lol

Yeah, but most people know that a lot of F2P games are basically a test drive (trial) before they start asking for your cash...

I got on Star Trek Online and after busting my way through the tutorial and visiting Sol system, I found where a lot of our player-base probably went... (Whole fleets of player ships flying around doing things. It was even phased/instanced up to 6 sections...I was on the #6 phase.)

It was glorious just being able to see people in a game again...so much so that I lost 10 hours in it.

I know where I'm going if things don't liven up over here... (Yeah, I saw the dev tracker and that they finally started responding to stuff, which gives them some points in my book, but I'm just wondering if it's too little/too late now to salvage the game.)

Do you folks think a lot of those people that decided it wasn't worth crafting an alt who left the game are going to be willing to come back?

  3. I don't know if you folks have ventured over to G4TV, but they've been 'visiting' Dev offices and posting videos of it.

They released one for Bioware's Austin offices, and it was very short and they seemed kinda stuffy, didn't show much, and seemed like they were being secretive and trying to hide things.

I went and watched the one they did for Trion's Dev offices and it was fun, peppy, and lively. They showed them around a bunch, and introduced a bunch of people, and even cracked a few jokes here or there...

After watching those, and seeing the way the Devs are acting on here, I am really seriously considering unsubbing, as I didn't pay for Collector's Edition + 6 months for a game that was going to just be run hard into the ground. I paid for a fun gaming experience that I was hoping would grow into a great game.

My sub runs out July 26th (Free month must've finally been added to my account...) so they have until then to get their act together.

  4. the one thing i noticed in wow before the LFG tool was that not alot of ppl acted like jerks when grouiping for dungeons cause they didnt want to build up a bad reputation and not get any groups again. but for the LFG tool they had 8 different servers linked together so the odds of seeing the same person again was slim to none. so alot of ppl got very free with rude and disrespectful behavior and in not too much time after that almost the entire game community was poluted and volitile.

They don't talk about Barrens chat because it was nice...

  5. After doing it like 5 times one day and failing multiple times, I gave up.

Went back and did it again another day, and figured what the heck, I know it's that frigate that comes in right after you get out of the valley that blows it up...so I used my missile lock and aimed at the side of the valley where the frigate is supposed to be and it locked on THROUGH the side of the asteroid valley wall (They need to tweak that..you should be able to see it and it makes zero sense that you fire missiles through a solid wall of rock. Same with the space station one...you can fire through the station and hit something on the other side of it...)

  6. Overall, I was happy with the game until I started to get to the mid-story planets and there was nobody there to group with...

Now I'm just putting stuff back up on GTN every so often and wasting time while waiting for some kind of transfers/merges or whatever they are doing.

I already played farther than I wanted to and missed some of the heroic content I wanted to see on a few planets, so I don't want to keep going until I can go back and knock them out and see the new planets group content...

I'm curious how their metrics are measuring my logging in just for GTN and then logging off and going and playing Starcraft II...

I also am not happy with how they are handling customer service on these forums. There was a guy that posted a 'HELP' type thread because he'd come up against a couple fights he couldn't get past, and instead of letting some of the players give him some helpful advice, they locked it down. (Which would've been another lost subscriber.) But I noticed it and private messaged the guy and ended up explaining some stuff he didn't understand about the game (He was brand new to MMOs), and might have kept one of their subscribers around for a little longer.

This is not how you keep your subscribers around...

    Combine that with this behavior...

    http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?p=4475137#edit4475137

...and I'm starting to wonder what the heck is going on over at the Dev offices, since they are barely giving us any info.

But, I'm a die-hard gamer and have seen lots of bad behavior, so I'm not scared off...YET.

Hopefully they will turn everything around and I can get back to enjoying the game like I want to be...

  7. The only early on orange customize-able armor for Jedi Consular that I've found remotely appealing was Jedi Initiate's Vestments/Lower Robe. (And apparently the schematics are semi rare, as I can't even find the headpiece schematic...and I've been looking for about a week and a half now on GTN and been asking around on my server.)

But then, Jedi aren't supposed to be prideful, so looking for fancy gear seems anti-lore...

  8. Nothing wrong with what he did congrats to guy who stole it..

For so long in these theme park type of games guilds are nothing but a group of people who use each other to get shiny crap and are not even friends and all the systems protect you and most people live in a bubble.

In EVE people steal from corps all or alliances all the time and its pretty awesome when an alliance after years finally trusts you to move trillions of isk worth of stuff or give you access to hangers and we all think about riding off into the sunset but its what we choose do and who we will do it to that matters.

I think guild thefts are awesome!

Somehow I doubt you've been on the receiving end of it, and are usually on the doing end.

After dealing with a guild on WoW run by a 16-17 yr old girl who ran around inviting everyone she passed by, and dealing with a guild thief that kept stealing for a month before I was promoted high enough to kick him out/do anything about it (even with logs) and then having her go and invite his alts in as she saw them and have the thing repeat itself, I totally disagree with your viewpoint.

Especially after the guy messaged me specifically and laughed about how many things he stole and re-sold on AH.

Guild thief are scum, bottom of the bucket, and are part of the reason I won't join guilds unless I really get to know a few of the members...

  9. Honestly, it really depends on how they do it.

If they can manage to make it look like it does belong to the game, then it wont be that bad. of course I can not think of a single game that has been able to do that yet.

That's part of why I mentioned Nar Shaddaa. That planet is supposed to be a flashy marketplace. And they already put up billboards and whatnot with 'alien' text on it, so what if they just swapped in real life advertisements that you were supposed to catch a glimpse of while you're flying on the taxi to somewhere..?

Would that break the immersion too badly?

  10. Just read an article over on G4TV suggesting one of the ideas Sony has come up with for advertising in games...

    http://www.g4tv.com/thefeed/blog/post/724150/sony-patents-interupting-game-ads/

...and I was wondering what other people's opinions on forced in-game advertising is?

My personal opinion is that if they did this to any game I was playing, I'd instantly quit, even if it was a favorite of mine.

What are other people's opinions if they were to say...start putting up floating blimps in Nar Shaddaa with actual real life advertisements?

Or sand crawlers out in the Dune Sea with advertisements emblazoned on the side like with buses?

Just some ideas. Feel free to discuss your opinions and how you would respond.

  11. I can just see the intense lag and whining over congestion, kill stealing, log in wait times, spawn camping, etc....

I don't know if you've played the Republic side recently, but they went through and 'polished' a lot of those quests that require a certain guy to kill for completion (So instead of him sitting there, you hit some object and he spawns.).

I noticed it when I made my new Jedi.

Not to say it won't happen still, but they were working on things like that before this uproar apparently.

  12. I played LOTRO for a paid year from like 1 1/2 months before it went F2P...

I actually burnt myself out by doing all of the crafting guilds at once, so I didn't even get a character past I think level 42. I actually quit like 8-9 months in on my year and never went back.

With the F2P microtransactions and the paid VIP member's getting a steady amount of Turbine Points to use, I spent a lot of my points on deals they had for that cross-character bank and the cross character wardrobe and multiple extra character slots and the expansions (But I never even got to see Mines of Moria...much less the expansion after it.)

The scenery was great, but there was lots of things left to be desired for the rest of the game. (Like having to fight over kills for getting completion).

Also, the Barrows was almost stupid...exploding poisonous worms that gas the whole room and kill everyone...or a zombie/skeleton necromancer guy that can stun-lock most of the 'fellowship' (group).

The housing and the different holiday event items were fun for awhile, but it was poorly implemented and I doubt many people even visit the houses unless they are buying the next door one.

Basically, the group content I've seen over here on SWTOR is much more intriguing and the VO stuff is great (Except when your character starts to repeat the same lines..)

I'm really enjoying the crafting system and hunting down schematics...(Except for that whole augment system...I think they should just fold it into something else/get rid of it and change slicing so it actually has a decent chance to find something else other than credit boxes from boxes in the field since they've nerfed it so you basically break even/lose money from missions now.)

If the servers would liven up and I was able to learn some of the FP's and more of the heroics and get to the endgame stuff, I'd probably have a few more opinions on this game, but overall, I quite enjoy it.

I enjoyed both of these games to an extent, but each has their ups and their downs.

  13. This is why we never get any communication tho. They hint at something and people run with it. next thing you know people are posting it as if it is fact. Massively also took the quote out of context to get a glaring headline people would want to read. If I am sharing info I would first verify it.

If the Devs or the community liaisons were actually participating in these forum discussions like they should be, we wouldn't even be speculating on the matter as we'd have solid intel on the matter. As it stands, they have been miraculously absent, and are letting people sit here and wonder what is going to happen.

As other people have stated in other threads, we shouldn't be having to get any tiny bit of news like this off of other web-sites anyway. This forum should be the first place they put any news...

  14. Nowhere does it say a word about super servers or server merges in that. You guys are taking a quote out of context like I said. Some dude on a blog took it out of context and now all the sudden you guys made up this "super servers" thing. Nowhere does it say the words super servers. He says only they have plans to make the servers more populated.

Actualy had to dig its not in the article you linked but here is what he said:

How out of that people get server merges or super servers is beyond me. It sounds like to me in context (he is afterall referring to the LFG tool not needing to be cross server) that he is under an impression once 1.3 comes out with server TRANSFERS more people can say play on the fatman and not see a "full" stamped on it. Nowhere do I see anything about the low pop servers. I believe he thinks everyone will move off the low pops and onto the new servers which have a higher cap.

    http://massively.joystiq.com/2012/05/24/swtor-devs-hint-at-mega-servers/

Perhaps it's the folks over at Massively that are putting this in people's heads, because when I first read their article they did say something about super servers in it as though it was a direct quote. This new one is saying the Devs are hinting at it.

Don't shoot the messenger, I'm just relaying information because the head honchos around here aren't willing to step up and speak on the matter...

  15. Bear with me, as I'm a long winded person at times... (If you don't like TLDR, skip me.)

I'm one of the players who pre-ordered Collector's Edition before launch and paid for a 6 month sub, and was planning to re-up when my time expired, as I've immensely enjoyed the game content I've seen so far...

It took me quite a bit of alt building to get the hang of the game and to feel comfortable building my characters up... (Not a die hard straight to end game content type of person.)

So after starting one server, and building approximately 12 characters (Some got deleted and built again), I swapped servers to try the other faction...and built about another 10 characters.

I then decided I preferred my original faction so I swapped back and since I'd totally mangled those character's crafting skills and commendations, I decided it was best just to start them over, so I rebuilt all 8 of them (Then deleted one more because I'd had enough of that classes inability to tank at low levels...and made one final opposite faction guy.) with the remains of what those characters hadn't sold on GTN previously...

This gets me to where I'm at now, running a multitude of approximately level 28-34 characters...which I've been dumping piles of materials and schematics into their crafting...

With all of this time invested, if I'd bothered to get legacy earlier, I'd probably rival some of these high legacy level folks, but as it is, I'm only legacy 8 now.

I haven't even seen any of the 'group' content (Heroics) on Nar Shaddaa or any planet past it (Except like one or two heroics on Tatooine that I was lucky to find someone to do them with...)

I haven't even done any of the flashpoints or Ops (Don't even know what levels those require.).

But I was finally starting to push my characters up towards end-game, and began to notice a major lack of people to group with (Or that people on the planets were refusing to do heroics/outright ignoring any LFG mentions).

While I do enjoy the class stories, I prefer to knock out the heroics 'as I go' as they sometimes add more story to the areas.

So I've basically bogged down and can't continue unless something major is done about the server populations. (I've literally logged on and been the only person on both sides of my server..granted it was middle of the night...it usually averages 10-15 people with it barely breaking 30 on peak times.)

I started to just sit on fleet and watch the GTN and buy/sell to bide time until things changed, but even that is becoming monotonous, as fewer people on the server means less on GTN. I even started buying cross faction and selling opposite faction so it would flush out both sides economies a little more. (Found a major bug with dressing room previews for cross faction gear)

But I'm now getting to where I don't even want to get on my characters because I can't progress them like I want to, and I don't want to solo them past the planets I'm missing 'group content' on. (Already did on a few characters.)

So this is basically my plea for them to do something about these issues, before I have to just cancel out my sub and move on to a populated game... (Really don't want to go find another game, I enjoy this one.)

I would think I'm what they consider to be a 'core' gamer...the folks they want to keep around...(Ran 5 80's on WoW pre-Cataclysm, and went to LOTRO for a year paid, and have played a few $5/month games..)..but they are even scaring me off lately...

Please do some merges and not just some character transfers!

  16. I ask, because I'm one of the players that likes to just character hop and make more characters and try all kinds of different classes, and it's become horrendously hard to find people for a heroic.

No, not just because of server populations, but also because people with 50's are making alts and are of the opinion that 'Heroics just aren't worth it.'...

That's not even counting the people who are already grouped with guild-mates running on planets.

I literally sat for almost 4 hours one evening with 10+ people on the planet refusing to do any heroics.

Are they going to phase the heroics so they can be done cross-server like with WoW's instances?

Or are those of us who actually enjoy grouping up with folks for a simple thing like a heroic just supposed to suffer when this LFG tool comes out supporting WZ and FP/OPs?

Forgive me if my signature latches onto this post, I don't really post on here and the preview is showing it attached...

  17. Having come over from LOTRO where we had the ability to 'buy' character slots with Turbine Points, I do personally feel a tad constrained since I'm one of those people that likes to play multiple characters. (I paid for a year sub on there and got steady piles of TP to use per month to buy things, so I had bought like 6 more character slots..)

Factor in the fact that I prefer to self-support with crafting, and I have even less options since that eats at least 5-6 character slots that are permanent because you can't re-roll those characters or face losing piles of schematics.

I personally have a few more character variations I'd like to try, but I'm already maxed out for slots. (Hence why I just totally cleared off my one doubled up biochem character to delete it and rebuild as something else...but now I'm having to decide between 3 more variations I'd like to try on one character.)

Would I 'buy' more character slots for real life money? Maybe. I would love to have another 8 slots to work with. I am curious if they are going to give us more character slots based on legacy level or something.

I already built 8 characters on one server when I started...then swapped to the other side on another server and built 8 more on that side, then swapped back and re-did my 8 on previous server since I had more of an idea how to play/build characters. I haven't even hit 50 on any of my characters yet because I'm just enjoying the story-lines and crafting to my heart's content. I only just recently took one character up to 32 to 'start' my legacy.

First time posting on these forums, so forgive my long-winded narrative.

TLDR : Crafting eats most of your character slots, so you have less to just play with.
