  1. Well, when it loads it says "chapter 1" so I guess I am level 32 and I only play single player and somehow I still haven't gotten far enough. Weird. I also don't have enough "dark side" points for anything but I'm only level 32. It feels like forever for me, but I understand for most people level 32 is "noob." I just cancelled my subscription, not because of any of the legacy stuff, but because I think the legacy stuff finally got me thinking, this game isn't for me. It was fun at first. I played with friends. But they all have at least one level 50 character by now. I never see them anymore and I get lost a lot because the missions and worlds are sometimes incredibly confusing but asking for general help is a brutal experience. I don't get new abilities (just "upgrades") when I level up anymore, the market is bare on my server, I never made an item modification, my armortech went nowhere, I made some ok money because I never spent it...but then I learned you can get a speeder at level 25 and there it all went, pvp I never really figured out how to do anything with the ball or how to get into the games that are objective-based, I found out my class gets at jawa friend but I never found him, I stumble upon level 50 enemies on the massive world of Alderaan, can't find groups (no offense, eventually stopped asking), but I loved being a bounty hunter for a while.
  2. I have an active account, I have logged in since the latest patch, but I haven't figured out how to get the tauntaun. I definitely don't have a "legacy" name, so that may be the only requirement. I wonder if there's any way to find other casual people who don't have a legacy name because they aren't hardcore playing?
  3. OK, thank you----they didn't mention anything about acts or level in the SWTOR announcements. So do I just keep dong the character level quests for my story? I'm 32 now and I got there from questing-----I don't PVP much at all, maybe only 5 times total.
  4. I don't even know what that means. I get the SWTOR emails and read their facebook page. I read them, but they've never explaned legacy to me. I ask for help in the game and it's like begging for taunts, but I don't know where else to find help. I'm a casual player. That's not going to change. I don't know if I have any "legacy level" because it sounds like you need a level 50 to get legacy? I really just don't know what "legacy" means, and the only reason I WANT to know is because I finally found a pet in the game.
  5. I am a casual player. I get lost a lot. I get confused often. I have one character, a level 32 bounty hunter. One thing I've always wanted is an in-game pet. I've looked in the trade market for months, never seen a single one. Now the legacy patch promotion says I can get a free Tauntaun this weekend only. How? Where? I don't understand the legacy stuff, but I really just want the pet. Do I need to get a level 50 character? That's not going to happen any time soon----I'm enjoying the game at my pace and without help. Is there anything I can do? Help a casual n00b.
  6. I was told to gather commendations until I have enough for the purple lockbox--------it's the only way I've gotten any purple gear. Mind you it wasn't gear I could use and I had to sell it on the market, but still. It also sounds like some of the skills are WAY better for not draining your pockets, but ALSO for making profits each time. CREDITS explicitly from a crew skill?! That's awesome. I wish I had never started armortech and underworld trading, lol. Bottom line, crafting's not for me--------I think for the hardcore, people WOULD be upset if crafting was altogether left out of the game. For me though, crafting wasn't a problem until I started actually crafting. The game was fine for me beforehand, and if I'm not getting purple gear anyway, it's just not worth it. But thanks for the tips, nice work. What's your new guild's name? Is it for casual players?
  7. Also, regarding finding new recipes...from reverse-engineering? I don't think that's ever happened for me. I've crafted dozens of things in armortech, and I reverse engineer them all since someone said you should always do that. I get some materials back so I can spend more on crafting, but I can't make anything really useful to anyone. It's probably more imbalanced than it should be, but I think the bottom line is if it wasn't there, I wouldn't notice, and I wouldn't complain about it missing. It's fine----I think I came here to see if someone would say, "yeah, you're missing out, it gets way better and at your level you'll soon be making purple and orange gear for level 30 that's better than the random chest you found on Cadamimu," but that's not the case and it's not worth it with how little time I have in SWTOR to begin with is all. I JUST got to Alderaan---can't wait to find my next bounty!
  8. I'm sure I could, but it's not worth it for being a casual player. On one hand, I don't understand a lot of the lingo even here. I don't know what slicing even means, and I could look it up but I think the bottom line is crafting anything istn't really going to get me the gear I really want anyway until much later in the game, a stage I might never reach regardless. If I am going to reach higher levels, that needs to be my priority. I always have gear that's "good enough" and that's fine. I forget about my companions' gear, but that's my own fault------I also forget to spend skill points and level up at a trainer when I get enough XP. Money IS a problem for me. Crafting doesn't sound like it would help enough for the next 10 weeks to be worth it really for me. I could figure out the market more like I did in WOW, sure, it's just that there really isn't anything I want for myself in there---in WOW I was always after bag deals or rare weapons but especially pets----the pets did nothing, but I had dozens of them. I loved them, and I got them at great prices or otherwise made enough money in the house to buy them outright for crazy money, and I never made it past level 60 even after 3 years (or more?). But one thing SWTOR does better is give you better gear. I'm sure I could get better gear than what I have, but I don't think I'm dying because of my gear alone, I think it's usually from bad decisions or playing alone too much, etc.
  9. That definitely helps, and thanks for the compliments. Painting keeps me away from SWTOR, among other things I'm so apprehensive about bailing on my crew skills. I don't think I will bail on scavenging just because everywhere I go (alone, at least) I can scavenge something, it seems. But underworld trading, ugh, I want to keep it so much just because I have seen that later you get a JAWA companion?! I can't wait. That's a long way from now for me, but I have been stockpiling companion gifts (I have almost 20 now) to get the Jawa on my side when I get him. I also give companion gifts to friends. But still, great advice---------I'm going to think about the rest, but for now I'm definitely keeping scavenging but not spending a dime on it anymore. Thanks again!
  10. Level 50 is a long way away for me, that's for sure. Thanks for the tips. I think the cost of crafting isn't just credits, and it's not worth it for anyone who doesn't spend a lot of time at level 50 on at least one character. I'm casual, can't help it, but have to find a way to play casually and efficiently, and that means ignoring crafting, for me.
  11. I haven't done any ship upgrades! They are expensive. But thanks for the tip! I will look into it. A lot of stuff in the game I haven't done just because I'm trying to focus on not getting lost-------I've never done an item mod, still learning crafting, need to buy a ship upgrade, need to figure out why I can't abandon some of my "gray" quests, etc etc etc
  12. That's exactly what I'm talking about. I think I COULD figure out crafting, but it doesn't sound worth it at all----when I hear concrete data and start thinking about the math in my head, it sounds like it's just better to save all my money and then I'll have plenty later on to finally get some purple gear and a mount. Regarding the other comments above about joining a guild and also gathering materials while running around planets, both of these are kinda out for me. First, I'm casual. I'm a kickstand for guilds----most of the people I've talked to in the game, you have to be able to contribute at a high level----one of them said they are always the first guild to complete things as soon as they launch. Besides, I don't necesarily want to rely on a guild----I just want to be able to craft on my own and it felt like I was doing it wrong, but I think there's simply not much of a market at all, especially for crafting (although I hope it will change). I might be able to find a guild that's suited for me, but I never know when I'll be able to get online due to traveling so much, and really I don't know of any casual-style guilds? Do they exist? Second, for gathering materials, that never seems to work either. If I'm alone, it's ok, but I die a lot. However, when I'm with a group, I can tell I'm the casual one because I don't notice the stuff to gather until it's too late-------I can't tell you how many times I've tried to "race" to gather materials only to lose to the other guy in my random group. You snooze, you lose? I suppose I could go back to "easy" planets I've been to already, but then I'm doing it JUST to craft and I'm not leveling up, which is already slow enough as a casual player-----I'm always finding PLENTY of missions for my level, so I just want to keep doing them when I have time to play SWTOR, rather than gathering materials back on Hutta. I was casual in WOW too, but one of the things I did a lot was the auction house-----I made a fortune AND owned every pet I could get my hands on. I don't necesarily think a market is worse than an auction house in SWTOR, but I do miss those days. Side note------I LOVED pets in WOW, and I search every day in the "pets" category of the market in SWTOR------how come it's always empty? And THANK YOU for all your help, everyone, for sure
  13. Hell I don't even know how to "subscribe" to this thread, even. I'm so lost in this SWTOR world. I know it's KINDA designed for casual players, but for this casual former-WOW player, I feel like I'm always struggling.
  14. At level 20, how did you have enough money to possibly get a crafting skill to level 400? Or did the stuff you got from it along the way net enough revenue to never stop investing in slicing? Is slicing that much easier and cheaper? I think I'll take the advice above, quit my current skills and pick up skills that sell things like slicing and treasure hunting.
  15. I created everything I could from everything I found scavenging on the planets. Now virtually everything in armortech is terrible but also gray or green, but the green ones require like level 1 scaveneged items and metals. I think it requires too much research, more than I'm able to do as a casual gamer, and I should just save my money----------if it was worth it, I think it would have been completely obvious by now, so I think option B (saving money and spending none on crafting) is probably the best way for casual gamers to play. But thanks for the tips, for sure.
