  1. Well, literally 23 hours plus of patching later i'm back in. Then a couple of hours later European players got kicked from servers. This has been an utter fiasco. And literally within a minute of deciding to give Rift a go it was downloaded. No 500kb per second crap. Wham and I was playing while it finished installing. What's that I see bouncing in Bioware's court. i do believe it's a ball.
  2. Well cat - as you are so clever perhaps you'd better contact Customer Support and the Devs as they seem to think it is their problem. I'm sure they'll be so pleased. They'll probably feel a little stupid but that's the price they pay for not being so awesome I guess.
  3. At the risk of wasting my breath they have accepted that it is the launcher that is the problem. They just don't understand what has gone wrong or how to fix it. If you don't have the post July 31st streamed launcher you are probably okay. The new one updates, fails to verify the files and starts downloading all over again ad infinitum. The workaround we have been given is to force the use of the old patcher system not the streamed one and this by necessity also forces a full reinstall without the streamed patcher system. None of us are doing this for the fun of it. To repeat - the streamed patcher launcher is broken. They admit it themselves. They just have no idea what to do about it yet.
  4. There are instructions in the support forum. You basically have to edit the launch file in a text editor. This will force a complete reinstall at sub 512kb per sec speeds and prevent the new installer reinstalling itself. This speed seems to be unrelated to your connection speed. That's a lot of hours downloading and there have been reports that even this can end in failure.
  5. Apologies. I was trying to quote the guy blaiming us for the problem and did not notice the quote-fail.
  6. You know what - when it involves downloading all night and then into the next day and then it just resets and starts all over again you better believe it's too 'mainstream', whatever the hell you imagine that means.
  7. Yea. If I get home an cannot sit down and play 24 hours after starting this patching and there is not a clear, simple quick fix I'll be checking out Rift. Spending another 24 hours trying to fix things is not an option. At that point staying just becomes throwing good money after bad. I was enjoying SWTOR but this fiasco - combined with no response from CS for 8 hours or more (and still no actual useful response) has shaken my faith.
  8. No one is 'downloading the wrong thing'. The launcher update goes off and breaks stuff all on it's own the moment you launch it.
  9. It might not affect people using the old patching system. There is a suspicion it is confined to the new BR launcher system so mainly to post July 31st installers. We've had to figure out how to edit files to disable it as it was just lopping for hour after hour. Then we were told to go and delete all sorts of folders to force a complete re-install from servers that are working at snail-speeds. And sometimes asking for one time codes that haven't been sent it seems. I've had to come to work and leave mine slowly downloading and at the speed it was going I doubt it will be finished. That will then be 24 hours of attempting to fix things, mostly without a word from Customer Support. Under these circumstances a little impatience and a desire for some goodwill gesture isn't out of line. I'm a new player with a 2 month sub. If I hadn't spent a lot of money on cartel coins I'd be walking away now before becoming too invested. I might still, if it looks like staying means throwing good money after bad. Up until now i was enjoying the game a lot but by releasing an untested update, that has caused not just lost play time but the lost time I spent all evening and part of the morning trying to fix, has shaken my faith. The question now is - is this a company that cares about its customers when it has made a terrible mistake or is it not? If it cannot throw some purely virtual goods as recompense like other companies have done/do in similar circumstances as a gesture then maybe they aren't. And if they are not then maybe there are better places for my gaming budget. This in't a threat - it's just an observation from a new player looking for a good MMO to sub.
  10. In this case yes - as they themselves have acknowledged they have broken something in the last patch. They don't know what as yet or when it will be fixed. Download speeds for reinstalling the game are very low and are not affected by what else you're doing or not doing.
  11. Over 10 hours now - having been forced to do a full re-install. There is a problem, CS have acknowledged it and said as yet there is no estimate of when it will be fixed. I only recently installed the game and it was pretty quick and painless. Not this time. Something has been broken and they are trying to find out what.
  12. Customer Support have already said it's something wrong at their end and there is no estimate of when it will be fixed so cut the attitude.
