  1. I have seen several posts discussing PvP gear and DAoC keeps being brought up. Many have talked about how great DAoC was because it was Skill more than Gear that mattered, but not many have mentioned why that is. DAoC was skill based but it wasn't because the best gear was PvE Raid acquired...it was because with the exception of Artifacts released in ToA the best PvP gear out there was player crafted gear. BiS gear before the clusterf..k that was ToA was crafted to your specific character. You decided how to build your character...fill out his spec for maximum effect, and build that template that placed you on par with the other players. As far as the Resilience/Expertise DAoC had this as well...it was simply more complex and specific. DAoC gave you a list of resistances you could either strengthen, average out, or ignore at your own peril. All WoW did was simplify the process and call it "Resilience"...SWToR decided to be original and call it "Expertise". The satisfaction you get in Huttball when you smash the ball carrier for a massive hit knowing his Expertise is in the toilet is no different than when you destroyed that player with a Slash Weapon...knowing he gimped his Slash resist in his Template. DAoC was revolutionary in it's approach to PvP in many ways but for gear it wasn't because it forced you to grind PvE raids or face smash your keyboard for months until your PvP gear was up to par. It was because it relied on the players to support themselves, think for themselves, and truly create their character to be competitive. DAoC was brilliant with their design and idea of RvR....then they failed their roots when they released ToA...and every MMO that has been noteworthy after has followed in their failed footsteps. Artifacts give way to 10M/25M PvE raid rewards ...gives way to PvP rewards...gives way to the random chance for PvP rewards. When is the last time your BiS item was crafted by another player? Unfortunately game designers cater to the masses...and the masses demand instant gratification with minimal effort. Resilience is much easier than having 9 different damage types requiring resistances...programmers like it..and it sounds appealing to those that want it simple. Personally...I am waiting for a designer to give me a game where I control my character once again...all aspects of him. As long as the BiS gear comes off PvP face smashing...or PvE raid content that gets progressively easier the longer the expansion has been released (read new WoW patch notes if you don't know what I'm referring to) this will never happen.
