  1. What are the 3 main lessons from DAoC?

    1. Three factions. Always three factions. Not two, but three. Vital.

    2. Caps on every single stat. Ability to cap all stats through crafted gear or raid gear. Your choice.

    3. Meaningful objectives in a large world zone that people care about. Relics mattered. Access to Darkness Falls mattered. Bonus money/xp earned in the frontier mattered.

And yet somehow, every single MMO since DAoC (including Warhammer) fails to incorporate any of the above three things.

    Amazing.

YES! This is what we want.

  2. Wow pvp servers before they ever introduced battlegrounds. Yes, WoW, there I said it. There was great small scale pvp open world pvp on the server i was on. As soon as battlegrounds were introduced it basically vanished overnight.

The reason why this vanished was not only due to battleground instances but also their high warlord system which required pvp gear grind in order to compete.

  3. Many games have not failed... yes, i am going to say it WOW!!!

So if everything can be gotten through crafting then what would you do for an end game?

If you remove pvp/expertise gear then how would you stop pve gear from owning ppl in pvp?

Um did you read what I wrote? I am advocating removing gear progression based on stats entirely in both pvp and pve. Pve rewards should be equivalent to crafted gear just flashier. People don't care about stats they want what looks cool and the challenge of the encounter.

In regards to crafting the best schematics should be available from trainer not from pve raiding.

  4. Uhm, yes. Because PVP should be about skill, not gear. Expertise is a crutch that was implemented in WoW as "Resilience" because they couldn't find a way to balance PVE gear against PVP players, causing raid geared players to destroy people who were interested only in PVP.

Expertise has ZERO place being in the game at this point, it's too early for it to need it, and it's just making the PVP experience at 50 horrible. The concept that one should have to "suffer" through Warzones to get expertise gear when the current group of expertise gear players got it through destroying 20's in Warzones or exploiting Ilum is laughable.

To be blunt, not a single Battlemaster who has the title and gear right now "earned" it. They were fed it with a silver spoon on the backs of easymode warzones and "free battlemaster day" in Ilum.

+1 People just don't see the massive resemblance its disgusting.

  5. Actually 10-49 is very gear dependant also. Most of my games are very lop sided. Either my team wins 5 or 6 points in huttball or lose 5 or 6 points in huttball. In my 10-49 games, close games hardly happen which basically means, there is a huge imbalance which can be attributed to level, or gear or skill points.

Sounds like some players are just bad. I mean my lvl 13 was out dmging lvl 40s today. I'd say the imbalance you are experiencing is skill.

  6. since at 500 expertise it's only a 10% buff/dmg reduction i'd say it's not bad at all

nothing like the piss poor system in rift and as much as people hate expertise i think they forget what it was like being a fresh 50 in emain macha only to run into a RR5+ anything.[/quote

Comparing Rr5 to gear grind and expertise rating is absurd the two aren't even related.

Expertise=gear grind when the greater tier armor has more expertise. However gear grind does not =expertise

  7. I believe the reason you are seeing so many people complaining about lvl 50 Qs is they have rerolled an alt to play in the balanced 10-49 bracket that has no expertise. People in general enjoy c ompetition and its definitely a trend on my server Assassins of Sion.

There is no need for expertise and people are beginning to shun gear grind.

  8. The entire basis for keeping people interested is rewarding them for their spent time. One way to do that is Valor ranks, the other is through earning higher levels of gear.

Some would pvp just for the fun of it, but most respond far better to material rewards, a feeling of accomplishing something.

Why have gear drop at all? New raids could just be scaled so that the same gear can be used for them and only new tactics are required, but it would lead to a far less successful business model.

Daoc specifically failed due to the addition of gear grind so I disagree with you on the business model.

  9. You are wrong not all mmos have gear progression. You can balance pve and pvp without gear progression by making the best gear craftable and giving the players the ability customize their gear. BW does this from 1-49 with customizable orange gear and then completely drops that and makes you grind for the best gear.

If you want to keep expertise provide craftable items with expertise. WoW pvp was fail this almost just as bad.

  10. :mad:Everyone is trying to fit into the gear grind mode of getting gear. Its outdated. Just have the best gear be craftable using cybertech and letting players choose the pieces and look they want. This addresses soo many issues including crafting demand, customizing, and balance based on peoples play time. Remove expertise pointless stat.

WoW pvp gear grind with Swtor skin is what we have ATM with broken random bag drops.

  11. Remove expertise get rid of the pvp gear grind. Let players have customization with orange gear. Gear progression in general is a dumb idea and just creates gaps between the amount of time you are able to play. Pve and pvp can be functional together and have immersiveness but not with gear progression grinds.
  12. I always relate open world pvp to rvr and when I think of rvr I remember the frontiers of daoc and capturing keeps and relics which gave bonuses to the entire faction in both rvr and pve. Also controlling a majority of the keeps opened a unique pve area called darkness falls. The integration between rvr and pve was immense. This kind of system needs to be done. Just look at the cinematics and you have the empire attacking coruscant and reclaiming korriban.

On a separate note get rid of the pvp gear grind with expertise and let the players decide their customization with both looks and stats via the orange gear. This is a Fantastic idea that the devs throw away at 50. This also puts to rest long queue times in the 50s bracket as they can group everyone together again.

    I don't want WoW pvp.
