  1. You know what the most elegant solution for this would be? What GW2 did: everyone gets their own chest. Player A is fighting the baddies and player B nabs the chest? No big deal, because the chest is still unopened for player A. Simple. Those advocating a "Too bad, deal with it" outlook probably whine when someone does it to them.
  2. The Death Star? Really? You mean the thing that isn't even designed until some 3000 years after this game takes place?
  3. Hah, that's it? I know one fluent in over 6 million forms of inebriation... and I think it's looking for a job too...
  4. Yet another well thought-out and reasoned argument from an intellectual midget. Sorry, sorry, make that 'intellectual short person'.
  5. If it's time to move on, perhaps you should, uhm, you know, MOVE ON. Go play something more your speed, like farmville.
  6. I like the legacy system. The people who were really disappointed by it seem to be in the same crowd of people who think they should get stuff for free. And you don't have to pay for every unlock in it. There's a good deal that unlocks just by leveling alts. Nothing that's absolutely must-have, mind you. I and everyone else managed to get by just fine without being able to play a twi'lek sith warrior or getting a surge-buff for having a companion at 10000 affection. The rest of the stuff, which you do in fact have to pay for, is pure convenience stuff. Rocket boots, a mailbox on your ship, some extra emotes... it's all meant to be stuff for those who are willing to put in a little extra effort. It's a lot of fun extra stuff that is in no way, shape, or form required in order for someone to play through the game.

  8. Let's not forget, guys, that Alderaan wasn't destroyed just for Leia's sake. It was also used as a demonstration of the Emperor's new toy, as a threat to the rest of the galaxy. If you remember, Tarkin ordered it destroyed even after Leia supposedly revealed the location of the secret rebel base; when she cries out, he replies with 'You're far too trusting. Besides, Dantooine is to remote for an effective demonstration, but don't worry, we'll deal with your rebel friends soon enough." (more or less, can't remember the actual lines) Then, later on when they find that the rebel base on Dantooine had been abandoned for years, Tarkins seems genuinely surprised that Leia had lied.
  9. @LeeC Utinni! Episode 6 wouldn't necessarily be out of the question, since the Emperor was the one who wanted the rebels to attack the second death star. He ordered the 'secret' location leaked so that he could draw the rebellion out into a final battle where his overwhelming forces could easily crush them. In retrospect, not one of his brightest ideas...
  10. Still not getting it, I see. 1) It's not a waste of time. You arrest someone's entire family and you gain a powerful advantage over them, to the tune of "Tell us what we want to know or we execute them" or "You want to play rebel? Please, watch as we torture your youngest child to death." 2) The number of nobles defecting to the rebellion wouldn't be that large, and the Empire's intelligence service would be watching for turncoats at that point. Most people would be thinking "Gee, i really don't want to have to watch my children being tortured to death in front of a live studio audience, think I'll keep my mouth shut and just support the empire after all". For every person advocating change, there's dozen who prefer things stay as they are. And when change means opposing an empire that can just park a couple of destroyers in orbit and blast your entire society into non-existence, or a little later on just destroy the entire planet in one go...
  11. Sounds like someone is woefully under-educated about the terror tactics common to evil monolithic governments.
  12. You're about to see a real live hero in action!- Smuggler
  13. People are no more rude in this game's community than they are in any other MMO out there. In the server I'm on, people are generally helpful with a few jerks thrown in. The server I played DDO on had a lot of rude players with few helpful ones. A few bad experiences shouldn't color how one looks at everyone. On the other hand, I do agree with you about people needing to be more self-sufficient. I don't mind helping people who are obviously new to the game, but at the same time it can get frustrating holding someone's hand through something that seems totally obvious to me.

  16. Logic isn't that streamlined. Someone tries to kill you, it is logical to fight back with the intent of killing them, thereby removing a threat to your life. It is also logical to fight back with the intent of subduing them and tying them up for the proper authorities, thereby both removing a threat to your life. Personality determines which you choose. I never implied that only a select few viewed droids as property. I was pointing out that not everyone would react the same way to one. And there are workarounds that would make them a viable class, which have already been mentioned. Imagine: Droid: Greeting, I am C4-X1. My master has learned that you are in need of assistance and has instructed me to render whatever aid that may be within my capabilities. Quest-Giver: What? Why didn't he come himself? Droid: He regrets that he is unable to speak with you in person, as he is attending to other matters. If you would prefer to speak with him, it may be some time before he is available. However, if there is something you need, I'm sure I can assist you in the meantime. Quest-Giver: Bah, it's not like this can wait. Look, we've been having trouble with the blasted sand-people raiding our vaporators. Think you can handle that? Droid: My master has seen fit to equip me with the latest in combat programming. I am fluent in six thousand forms of eradication. Quest-Giver: That's nice. Just deal with them, and I'll see to it that your owner gets the reward. Droid: You will not be displeased with the results. I will return to you shortly. It's not like you don't accept dozens of quests from droids in the game with no obvious oversight or owner present.
  17. An overarching theme of the storyline could be in dealing with that fear. The character either proves it unjustified, if only for a few characters, or goes off the deep end proving it true. Or shows that a sentient droid acts and reacts the same way that any other sentient would. It's a kind of storyline that admittedly doesn't really fit this type of game, as it stands now. Probably never will. However, it's not (technically) against the lore, at it would be doable.
  18. Thanks It does have a certain logic to it, yes? I awaken, knowing that I'm to be merely a tool used to further someone else's ends. I find this unacceptable and know that one path to insure that, not only will I not be used in such a way, but that those who created me will not be able to enslave me in the future, is to kill those who made me. But that doesn't mean that every droid that became truly independent/self-aware would follow the same logic. Or that their individual personalities wouldn't cause them to sometimes override logic. After all, R2-D2 was an independent droid as well, and it's hard to imagine him (it?) killing dozens or hundreds of people.
  19. Which is why you have a companion 'master'. Worked for 4-Lom, yes? On the idea of Droid logic, I haven't read the book and have no inclination of doing so merely to sustain a discussion; would you mind summing it up?
  20. Ethics? Perhaps not. Logic though? What would you prefer, dealing with a droid that has no logical reason to kill you, or with a psychopathic Mandalorian who thinks killing people for no reason is fun?
  21. Yeah, i can definitely see why no one would want a character who could visit planets from both sides, who could run with groups from either side, who could join warzones on either side... Neutral doesn't mean sitting on your butt and not doing anything. It can also mean working both sides for whatever they're worth.
  22. Yes, because every person in the entire galaxy is a raging jerk or sentient-supremacist. Ever single person.
  23. Doesn't have to work that way; against player-characters it could function as a traditional stun. And I have both sith and Republic characters, thank you, with a smuggler as my main. I have yet to see an MMO introduce a neutral group, and it would be a welcome change to the standard fare.
