  1. I am sorry if these questions have been asked but:

I am deception specced with chain shock.

What crit and surge % should we target?

Should I focus on the % I see on character sheet for each stat or rather when I hover to see the breakdown of +%?

Do you strip your Tioneses/Columni/Rakatta mods to add in Crit and Surge?

I cringe every time I replace my Orange modded gear that has epics from the dailies and see the massive hit to crit and surge. Should I not worry about this? Is the increase in WP and Power more than making up for the loss in crit/surge? Should I be placing those epics acquired through dailies into my raiding gear? Thanks!

  2. i recorded a few videos of karagga palace bosses on 8 man hard mode and alot of people have said my dps is low because they do 5k+ crits where my assassin does 3.3k max crit, i have 4/5 columi stalker armor with the t2 pve weapon.

so yea i defo think assassins need a dps boost, but at the present moment of time im leveling a sorc just so i can raid with decent damage as it doesnt feel like my assassin contributes much to raids

I easily crit 3800+ regularly and i only have 3 pieces of raid gear and the rest epics of AH or orange gear modded with epics from dailies. I am specced Deception + chain shock.

  3. Darkness sins fall into the same category as those people who thought riftblade/reaver was a viable spec in rift and who play as prot pvp in WoW.

It's a gimmick 1v1 spec that can basically only do 1 thing: force non healing classes with little or already used cd's into a 1v1 in some dank corner and slowly kill them. Sure, your numbers may look good in a warzone because increased survivability, great sin cooldowns, and the fact that any players who know what they're doing effectively ignore you till the rest of your team is dead means that ... hey, you rarely die.

The problem is that once you finish being impressed with yourself and your medal count, you realize that you offer very little to a cohesive team unless you're running a huttball or something (and, lets be honest, any sin can slap on dark charge, get past the first flame jet, and be home free for an unstoppable score so you don't really have a monopoly on that faction of play either). Low dps from darkness specs results in an inablility to kill any healer that knows what they're doing and a similar inability to clear out cap nodes and doors fast enough to guarantee a good cap/plant.

Deception is the way to go because it HAS the burst and the lockdown to take down healers, which really are the linchpin of any team that isn't just a faceroll victory. You have amazing survivability in the form of cooldowns, and can basically survive or escape any situation as long as you use your skills wisely.

Bottom line is that if you're having trouble being successful as deception, you probably just don't know how to fully utilize the tools of both the spec and class in general since you've been running around as a tank being healbotted for so long all you know how to do now is spike thrash thrash shock.

The key to successful deception play is not spamming your abilities, but timing your burst with a string of control to guarantee a kill. You're not an operative, so you don't open with burst. Use voltaic slash and your standard maul proc strikes until you force a heal, lock them out with jolt, pop cd's and unload your discharge and shock for burst (with cd's you should be able to shock for about 5k, possible chain shock for about 2k, and then discharge for about 5k... giving you a possible good 12k dmg in 2 gcd's that autocrit with recklessness), follow with a low slash to allow for another maul, electrocute into an asassinate. If they're somehow still alive you can vanish into a spike or even vanish into a sap to fill out their resolve bar and then finish them off with another maul or whatever (your jolt will be back up by this time also). The strength of our spec is that our lockdown skills generate very little resolve, allowing us to lock down for longer durrations than any other class in the game. People just have to realize that we're not pre-nerf operatives and we don't take someone from 100-0 in a burst (unless they're undergeared). We pressure into a position where we can lockdown and burst from, say.. 70-0 or 60-0.

I heart this post fully agree and play that exact style of wait, interrupt and burst. Nothing feels better than interrupting one heal with jolt another with low slash and killing a healer who thought he was going to faceroll me.

  4. Armor rating is modified by armor type, ie Light, Medium and Heavy. Putting an armor mod with X armor rating in a piece of Light armor will never give you the same amount of protection as putting that same mod in a piece of Heavy or even Medium armor.

Hmmm. Seems like something BW will change.

  5. I don't get it. When starting out you get a quest to get social points, then buy a social badge 1 and use it. I used it, there was a sound like something happened and I completed the quest. Other than the quest, what is the point of social points, the badges you can buy because you have social points, etc.....

Just want to know if I am missing something here as it is not clear the need for these things. Thanks.

As you gain social rank you have access to more social gear. Social gear is normally Orange and moddable allowing you to go end-game for instance as a full equipped Sandperson or Imperial Trooper. There are also social items that are worth pursuing as well.

  6. Orange items that have no installed mods have no base stats. They are simply a container with a level requirement (and possibly a class requirement, dark/light requirement, or social level requirement).

As such, a level 20 orange has the exact same stats as a level 50 orange, assuming the mods in them are the same.

    Thanks.

  7. To ACTUALLY answer your question because I read your post, no. The level of the armoring/barrel/hilt that you place in an orange item determines the base stats.

So if you put a level 50 armoring into an orange item you got at level 20, the item would then become level 50 and base stats would scale appropriately.

Thanks for reading and answering my actual question!

  8. Yes. Orange gear has 3 modifiable gear slots, that can be found on drops, give as quests, purchased at venders for credits, or world tokens.

If you slot a higher level mod into the orange item you can do one of two things.

#1 remove the old modular piece, costing you money.

#2 leave the old piece in and it will be deleted and replaced by the new mod, at no cost.

I've found this system to be better than buying new stuff all the time. And the quality of the mods seems to keep my equipment in better shape (better armor, higher modifers to my stats ETC)

Not to mention you keep a consistent look.

My Jedi is wearing Trooper heavy armor instead of robes. Cause well ..... It looked kool.

I understand about the moddable slots but I was inquiring about the base stats if all the mods are empty. I'm pretty sure a level 20 Orange piece has less armor than a level 49 Orange piece if both have all their slots empty. Is this true?

Will a level 20 Orange piece with the same mods be exactly equal in stats to a level 49 Orange piece with the same mods?

  9. A lot of it has to do with how terrible Deception is for Huttball. Empire plays a ton of huttball, Republic not so much.

My Deception Assassin in Huttball is an exercise in frustration. In order to really have an impact you are pretty much forced to go tank spec.

Not true. Force Shroud, Deflection and Force Speed are your friends if you are talking about running the ball. You can even use Dark Charge with a Deception spec to assist in running the ball.

  10. I have 4 SATA 3 SSD's in a raid 0, and the load times have gotten worse with recent patches, but it's still below 15 seconds. I do alot of waiting for other people to zone load.

For the people who are saying that their SSD and HDD have the same load times, did you image from the HDD to the SSD? If you did, that's your problem right there. If you're going to an SSD, you want a fresh windows install and a fresh partition. If you image from an HDD the sector size isn't right, and it destroys an SSD's performance.

If you just added an SSD and installed SWTOR to it (and are running windows off of... whatever), that should be good too, but you'll need to move your paging file over to the SSD so you gain speed from that, instead of losing speed whenever anything hits the paging file.

Good tips. Here is an article on optimizing your SSD for everyone:

  11. I use a Maximus IV Extreme mobo with a UEFI BIOS and it had default OC parameters set for most Intel CPUs. Is fantastically easy to OC for people who don't fully understand the specifics of the BIOS settings (or who are just lazy like me).

Took me 2 clicks to go from the stock clock on my 2600k to 4.6.

Kind of off subject, but definitely an awesome feature.

Yea I have an MSI P67A-GD65 and it has a button to push that will give you 4.5. That said, I wanted to push the limits so I went into the BIOS to get that extra .2. I was getting some core errors at first so I went to the MSI forums and got some advice and now I have been running without errors at 4.7 for 6+ months.

  12. I am currently specced with a traditional 2/31/8 build but have been thinking about modifying it for pvp. I came up with is build: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200MZGGrMk0rMtzZcMc.1

    My rationale is as follows:

I like the pvp utility that I get by using points on Force Slow and Jolt/Unbreakable Will. I am not convinced that Saber Conduit is a worthwhile talent. Further I rarely find myself waiting for a full stack of Static Charges to get the full benefit of my Discharge.

In addition, since I am speccing for the Chain Shock why not pick up the extra damage for Lighting discharge and forgo Surging Charge all together? I understand that I lose some burst damage as Lighting Discharge is a DOT but other than that is this not a superior PVP build?

I am not a theorycrafter and have yet to test this but the build did come to my mind and wanted to get some opinions. Thanks!

  13. As an Imperial I still find this quite troubling and think this needs to be fixed ASAP. I am also jealous as Im 44 right now and can't go to farm valor!!!!

P.S. That lag looks pretty terrible as well. Sigh...

  14. Level 40(dinged last night)...went straight to bank and put on my level 40 pvp gear and purchased a nice purple offhand with sick crit and surge. Proceeded to run one warzone to test gear and my new Voltaic Slash. I was second in DPS in Huttball with 172K and 9 medals. I was gitty but had to go to bed and cannot wait for work to be over to continue dominating with my new gear and OP 31 point ability. VS is just awesome! VS,VS shock, electrocute, maul, Assassinate, DEAD!

4K crits at level 40 warmed my heart!

  15. As an assassin who is going 23/0/17, what PVP set should I be looking at? Is it even worth spending the commendations on or should I just hold out to 50?

Well I'm not quite sure as I am going Deception and purchased the Invigorating Attack set but I did want to chime in. You can only have a max of 1000 pvp commendations so you may want to spend them now at 40 since you are probably at or close to 1000 by now.

I had my level 40 set sitting in my bank since 33 along with the nice blue belt, ear piece and implants you can get at 40. It really made a huge difference in pvp(combined with Voltaic Slash) on my first WZ after hitting 40.

  16. I just hit 40 so I do not have Overcharge yet but to me this looks like a pretty lackluster talent considering the cooldown and its effect on a fairly weak ability that at most can only proc every 1.5 secs.

I am going Deception and all the guides I read have two talent points allocated to decreasing CD on Overcharge by 30 secs. What am I missing? Why are all the "pros" using 2 valuable points to buff what I think(could be wrong) is a very lackluster DPS increase.

If I am wrong I would love to have it explained to me. Thanks in advance!

P.S. I know that surging charge does internal damage and ignores armor so the base damage is higher than expected. Is that what accounts for the "usefulness" of buffing it with Overcharge?

  17. You mean like...

    Luke Binks

    Han Binks

    Leia Binks

    Obi-Wan Binks

Boba Binks (rather like that one)

    Mace Binks

    Wedge Binks

    Jar Jar

    <The Binks Legacy>

Oops, forget that last one. Can't do a name like 'Jar Jar'. That crazy Gungan, always gotta be the rebel. :o

Im pretty sure you can have a space in your name but don't quote me on that. I know for a fact you could have:

    Luke'Skywalker The Binks Legacy

    Han'Solo The Binks Legacy

    etc.

Further, as some one pointed out most MMO's don't have a surname at all so while this might not be your 100% perfect idea of how a legacy system should work it def moves MMO's towards your desired goal.
