  1. There was a suggestion about building your own system. I've built all my desktops for the past ten years, but I enjoy it. If you don't want to learn how to build your own PC (I recommend you do... you'll have a better PC and you'll know how to troubleshoot and upgrade it), here is a suggestion if you want something cheap Dell XPS 8300 Not bad for 800$, and it outperforms my 1200$ gaming laptop which I bought six months ago. CPU Look for an i7 chip with a four digit suffix (this one above is a i7-2700). The four digits suffixes mean it's the latest "Sandybridge" version of the i7, which is a good performance boost. The i7s with three digit suffixes don't have Sandybridge RAM Look for at least 4GB RAM. This one above has 8GB Hard Drive For 800$, the one aboves has a 500GB drive. That's a bit small. For 75$ more you get a 1TB drive, which is more adequate (but not generous). I recommend you take that, making your total 875$ Video Card At 800$ the one above has a Radeon 6450. Now, since you have a good CPU (i7-2600) and plenty of RAM (8GB), you have a good foundation... the most likely problem you will experience for the next 2 years will be the video card. This is where you spend what you can. There are two customization options (50$ for a 6670, 150$ for a 6770) so pick what your budget can afford. Let's assume you go for the 50$ 6670 upgrade, making your total 925$. If you can afford it, go for the 6770 (1025$ total) Now take that 925$ system and compare the core specs to other systems sold by reputable vendors. Your main comparison points will be the points listed above (CPU, RAM, HDD, Video card). There may be other bells and whistles, but they won't matter as much as those four main criterias. Some people will fervently push for a specific brand of video card ... aka nVidia versus ATI/AMD (Radeon)... This is sometimes driven by technical reasons, but most often it's driven by fan/loyalty. This is like Canon vs Nikon DSLRs. You can't really go wrong, they're both good brands. Competitors tend to periodically leapfrog ahead of each other, it's cycle-based. I didn't include things like monitor, mouse, keyboard, wireless card (if needed), etc. I assume you have those already. mind you, the cheaper they (prebuilt systems) are, the sooner you'll go back in the "need-to-upgrade-cause-games-are-slow" mode. Also, pre-built desktops tend to be harder to upgrade than one you've made yourself. For example, pre-built systems may not have the power supply necessary to run future (more powerful) video cards. Or it may be cheap on expansion slots. I remember my mom's HP desktop, it had the RAM brazed on the motherboard, no way to add RAM easily. The other thing to point out is that PC technology price-benefit curves have a point-of-diminishing-return that often makes it not cost-effective to aim for the top notch components. A 2000$ desktop won't be twice as fast as a 1000$ one... but a 800$ will run circles around a cheapo 500$ system. Aim for something between "middle" and seventy-fifth percentile. Aka if video cards go from 100$ to 800$, generally your cost effectiveness would be between 300 and 500$ max. Anything above 500$ would be mainly for your e-peen ego power. I hope this helps
  2. I have 4GB on my Q6700 + GTX 275, playing PVE smoothly at 1900 x 1200 (low settings) I kept an eye on my Windows 7 performance monitor, and I alway have 0.5-1.0 GB RAM free while playing. I had been thinking to upgrade to 8GB, but since I always have free RAM at 4GB, I assume 8GB would yield no improvement. Is my assumption correct?
  3. I support this idea. Grey icon for grey missions, or something similar
  4. I have an old computer (Q6700 Quad core, GTX 275, 4GB RAM) and the game runs fine on my computer ... 1900 x 1200 low settings.
  5. Why do you expect a modern vBulletin-like forum with all the right functions and features? This forum server is located in a galaxy far far away a long long time ago. It has never heard of vBulletin. Also, the forum server is apparently on the same hardware that the game servers run on... so when the game is down for maintenance, so are the servers.
  6. If you're using arrow keys, you have a worse problem than the lack of a jetpack.
  7. You lose more than that As has been posted already, if you don't wield a second saber, you lose all the potential bonuses that would come from filling the off hand saber slots with mods.
  8. Thanks to those who pointed out I should use the "ion gun" and not the "ion detonator" Mission is now completed. I did have the ion gun in my mission inventory, but because I first saw the "ion detonator" and its description seemed to be exactly what I needed to do the mission, I assumed it was the right item and I did not search further in my mission inventory.
  9. Does it work on full health droids, or do I have to take their health down a bit first? Or do I have to kill the droid and then activate the item on his carcass (tried, didn't work)
  10. It's fixed. You have to set the a amount to get the best balance between profit and the odds of selling it. Prior to putting it up for sale, look on the "buy" side to see how many are already up for sale, and what they're being sold for. Then you have the information you need to set your own sale price.
  11. Hi I'm stuck on this Tatooine Mission I was given an Ion Detonator which I'm supposed to use on the unstable defense droids to disable them. However, I can't figure out how to make it work. What I've tried so far: -getting close to the droids and left-clicking on the item in my mission inventory. -Same thing but right-clicking -Tried to equip it in main hand or off hand. It won't equip -I selected (targeted) one of the droids, and left/right clicked the item -I re-did all of the above, but this time I put the item in a quickslot I would appreciate some assistance from someone who has completed the mission Thanks
  12. Yeah, it's expensive to take out mods after they've been put in. I would also like to know if there's a way to calculate what will be the result, prior to putting the mod in. I may already have a very good quality blue item, and my mods in stock may not be able to make the orange item equal/better.
  13. I really hate it when the character fails the net is in play http://motivationalmaker.com/saved_posters/poster_opd8zkruzp.jpg
  14. Search "datacron Nar Shadaa" on Youtube, someonee made awesome videos of all the datacron locations for each planet.
  15. The vids are in YouTube. Use the search function.
  16. I played STO for one month. It was fun for three weeks, then I ran into the lack of content. It was unfortunate, I was really looking forward to STO.
  17. How do we get Doc? I played today and he was not on my level 20 sentinel's companion list
  18. What is the visual cue that Riposte has proc'd ?
  19. I can't begin to imagine how this game would be played on a gamepad, but anyway I would never give up my mouse+keyboard. The lack of mouse-keyboard support is why my PS3 is gathering dust. The only thing I played on it in the last six months are racing games, and even those weren't with a gamepad (used a steering wheel)
  20. Thanks, I disabled his "intercept" ability, he stays at range now. He also survives longer. I don't have to dismiss/summon him as much now.
