    Arenas = Hail Mary

    Yes, I understand that many people have posted threads about the upcoming 2.4 arena patch for SWTOR. However, most of the threads I've come across have been incoherent and riddled with wow-burnouts that are chastising BioWare for their decision to implement this system. Just because you come from a game with a higher skill cap (if you argue this point please unsubscribe right now and play Bejeweled competitively, and leave this discussion to the grown-ups) and were unable to be competitive in arenas, don't blame the game, look to your own skill level and GET YOUR WEIGHT UP. Sure, there are some comps that are better and more viable than others, but if you look at the 2v2 and 3v3 and 5v5 ladders, there are myriad comps dispersed across the high ratings. After reading most of the threads revolving (loosely) around this issue, I see that the favorite rebuttal among the half-wits is the blizzard statement saying that "implementing arenas was a mistake for the game". Let me say right now, you're an idiot (awww don't get butthurt, it's true) if you think this is how the statement should be perceived. What the statement actually meant was that arenas were the worst thing to happen to the game's class balance. It put a spotlight on how imbalanced classes were, and in BC you could literally solo your way to GLAD as a lock in 2s. As SWTOR is relatively young in relation to WoW, I believe there is hope for them if they implement this system AND are responsive to the feedback they receive. (Notice I said feedback, and not horrible players looking for BioWare to throw them a crutch --> same players who say that CC is broken in SWTOR [ROFLCOPTER]) The best decision for them is to start out with a preseason (and actually go somewhere with it this time), and see how the classes work out in a 4v4 situation. Play every possible comp, find out what makes it weak/strong, and fix accordingly. It's a delicate process, but nothing they can't figure out, as long as the community helps out. The point that I'm ultimately trying to make is this: SWTOR is steadily dying, and they need something to rejuvenate their game. PvE is a joke in terms of it's difficulty, and PvP is even worse. You have 5 warzones and you can do ranked but for what reason? There is absolutely no incentive in terms of ranking, because it will all be gone whenever that elusive season 1 rolls out. (why I left) They need a hail mary pass, and that's what this is. I will come back to check out arenas, and hopefully they are just as fun and competitive as they are in WoW. With the game's population the way it is, implementing the season of arenas before rated warzones would be a clutch move, IMO. As it was said before, 4v4 is much easier to organize on a low population realm (every realm in SWTOR when you think about it) than 8v8. You end up playing the same teams over and over again, and the same comps over and over again. I'm sorry, but that's not how it works in high-end WoW arenas, especially in the 3v3 and 5v5 brackets. So, embrace this arena addition or find another game to play (Wildstar looks pretty sick). AND (sorry, still fuming over the idiocy I saw on the forums earlier), the reason SWTOR is dying is because unintelligent players are complaining about game balance because some overly skilled player facerolled them. My advice to you, get better, play better, everything has an answer to everything. Skill outweighs all. If you are going to post on this thread please follow these guidelines: 1. Be coherent. 2. If you are one of those people I complained about in this thread, don't post just because your feelings are hurt. 3. Scold. I know you're out there. Please bring reason to the community.
  2. I really don't care. This isn't really for anything serious and it is designed for exactly that: having fun and breaking the monotony that is 8 man warzones. I stated before that I know there is class imbalance, and I know it will play a factor. The bottom line is: I don't care. And yes, I firmly believe that elite players with those combos would destroy everything in their path, but there are many variables. I'll have you know that in the past 2v2 we had a shadow/sage combo defeat an assassin/assassin combo AND a marauder/sorc combo beat an assassin/operative combo. WEAK players will always get schooled by STRONG players.
  3. I understand, Sifu. I am actually thinking about organizing something on a larger scale after 2.0 comes out. After everyone gets gear and it normalizes, I think that will be the perfect time to start up something again. I'll post here again after I talk with a few people and gauge interest. Just a teaser: Arena league. It's gonna be like the goddamn NFL. We'll have divisions (round robin in each; best out of 5), then brackets for playoffs and other stuff. Haven't really worked it out in my head, but I think a 20 million credit grand prize would be awesome and more than doable. I'll even make a website for it so we can keep track of everything. The tournaments will be play as you want, just like Scold's 2v2s, with a general deadline so it doesn't drag on for months (more importantly, over patches that may change gameplay). JUST A THOUGHT.
  4. Yeah that is what I was just thinking. Since the xpac is April 14th (yay!!!), there is a huge time constraint if we want to get anything done before 2.0. Let's say, 1 month after 2.0?
  5. I'm also hosting a big 2v2 tourney, I really didn't know about this tourney, seeing as I was an MMO noob not too long ago, so I didn't know jack **** about these forums and just how active we were as a community. Hey, Scold. Maybe we could team up and host the 3v3? I am still willing to contribute 2 million credits to the prize pool if that is still desired. I will even put some cartel items up as well. Medpacs and adrenal stacks too maybe? Who knows?????? I just want to see some arenas in this game. I've never done arenas before, and I am itching for some. I don't want to level to 90 just so I can 2v2 or 3v3. Cause...that's the only reason I would do it Anyway, hit me up in game if anyone is interested in 3v3s. We'll try to get it going before 2.0. And Scold, I WANT THAT ARENA LEAGUE TO HAPPEN. We could do like divisions and ****, have playoffs at season end. HOLY ****. That's such a good idea. It's done. If there is enough interest in this BEECH then I will make a website intended solely for The Bastion Arena League. It's gonna be sick folks.
  6. Yeah, I'm gonna need some help. I actually like the "do your own matches on your own time" thing. In all actuality, do you mind if I take your rules word for word? I like that there are no tank/heal combos. Those are boring and last a ridic amount of time. Donations will be accepted for the prize pool, but I am not making them mandatory. The reason I am not asking for money for this is because (even though I wouldn't dare) it is sketchy to just give money to some random player. I can't think of anything in the game that would allow for that. I will just pay out 1st, 2nd and 3rd. EVERYBODY will get something. Whether it be a stack of medpacs, adrenals, a special piece of cartel gear. This is all out of my own pocket. I just want to do something awesome for the server, because most of you are amazing people and pvpers. I think that's incentive enough.
  7. I watched that gif in your signature over that video. I highly recommend this.
  8. I love everything about what you did with that, Scold. Hit me up in game if you can. -INIQUITA- <PAIN TRAIN> LVL 50 SITH MARAUDER
  9. I know that the general consensus after reading my post will be "skeptical". I will put forth the most effort possible to make this an enjoyable experience and the most competitive one. I am offering the creds because I don't care about them and I want to offer some incentive.
  10. Ok, I want to first start off by saying that I have been playing TOR since launch and I have been an avid pvper ever since I got introduced to that style of gameplay. I think the PVP in TOR is excellent so far, but it could use some arenas. Now, I know that some of you will say the classes are unbalanced and some comps will blow other comps out of the water. THAT...may be true. However, I think this can still be fun and exciting for all of us involved. I want to organize an ARENA TOURNAMENT. Actual brackets, actual team signups and shtuff. I haven't yet worked out any details of how I am going to accomplish this mountain of a task, but I do believe that the awesome community of the Bastion will be more than willing to outstretch a hand. Now, just to show that I am not full of ****, I am putting up the amount of one million in-game credits to the winners as a donation for being awesome and supportive of this whole endeavor. Now, everyone can join in on this. The only problem I foresee with this is the inevitable ganking that is going to occur between factions. It's going to happen, we all like to mess with each other, but let's try to keep this somewhat organized (although I am totally down for some massive open world pvp). I will announce what I plan to do soon on the forums. So, TLDR: -ARENA TOURNAMENT to be held sometime in the next couple of weeks. Before the new xpac. -1 million CREDIT prize to 1st, 500,000 to 2nd, 250,000 to 3rd. 4th place gets something special, and everyone will get something for joining. -I will be posting this prize out of my own in-game funds and remember, it is just a donation. I do not expect anything in return for doing this or anyone to contribute money to play in this. I just want some good, old-fashioned deathmatch. I will probably end up making a website to facilitate registration for this and post some brackets. I can do it really quickly if there is enough interest. Probably be double elim with best out of 5. 2 v 2 is usually pretty quick (some can go on forever though). What do you guys think? -INIQUITA- LVL 50 SITH MARAUDER <PAIN TRAIN>
