  1. I love how this thead took on 10 pages overnight of mainly the same 2-4 people that are for the lfg system only apparenly and they spent most of the time battering other people that didn't agree with them. It sends a negative impact to gamers? Are you a gamer and does it send a negative impact to you? Should it, or you just saying that because it does it's delusional, not delusional though for companies to cut the dead weight and bring players closer together and expect players to understand that? Now you are making an argument for the company instead of the players. I am a gamer and I care nothing about what is percieved by the merging of servers. I look at it like this, with the launch of any game there will be a massive influx of players, this is backed up by the fact that the servers were packed day 1 and more needed to be put online, even those put online later had decent populations(I was on a later one). But people will quit, it's just the way it works, and more times than not those servers that were needed at launch are no longer needed to hold the leftovers. My server that I started on is one of these, the population dropped off quite a bit after the first few weeks. This happens everywhere, rift same thing happened to them, aion same thing, even wow has servers that are very low population or very low on one faction or another. This is just as big of a problem as finding a group for dungeons if not a bigger one. Bigger because it affects all aspects of the play balanced around the assumption of having actual players on your server. GTN activity, Ilum and other pvp area activity, group quest/missions, or just randomly going out to kill stuff with friends. All of these can be fixed with both, merge servers AND add a lfg xserver tool. This fixes all those problems listed or at least attempts to fix all of them. My problems and yours will both be addressed you see? Is it so delusional to think it is possible to get what can help everyone? I don't think so but hell I am just a gamer and not afraid of the "outcry of forum trolls" So again from my earlier posts. 1. Allow free xfers that are restricted, dont allow the xfers to further cause issue to already over populated factions/servers. Do this until March to give people choice in where they want to go at least. 2. Merge servers AND implement the lfg cross server tool. Do it in a way that attempts to balance where balance is needed, put rep heavy servers with imp heavy servers. Don't stick bonus rewards on the lfg tool, otherwise it's no longer optional. Alot are saying the tool will be completely optional, if it has extra rewards tied to it then it's not anymore optional than wearing gear during combat. 3. Game won for all. For those saying the lfg is coming, tell me where. It's like your argument is based on trying to just cause everyone else to stop being against it. Tell them its already in the works and they will just shup up right? The weekly questions did not show this, it referred directly to pvp in the xserver answer. Not anything to do with pve. For those that say the tool will make it easier to find a group, yes it will. I agree there, you go from having to spam chat to just hitting a button, this is a good thing. But it doesn't fix enough. For those saying it will make finding a group faster, most likely it won't. It will be quick for a while until people had their fill then it will settle in to the long term. This if other games are any proof happen within a month. After that the only return to any speed will be with the release of new flashpoints. After the initial influx, much like the servers themselves it will drop off in speed. As a dps you will wait just as long as you would spamming chat in a server with a health population. The tool doesn't make players out of thin air. Want- easier grouping for flashpoints? better prices, more selection on the gtn, both selling and buying? easier group finding for group missions? more balanced and active pvp lakes? If so then merging servers+lfg xserver has the change to do just that. Want- easier grouping for flashpoints only? If yes then xserver is all you want, and you want to give up the other things. If forum posts scare you then I guess merging isn't for you, neither is reading the forums though. But if you argue only for xserver only, you will get just that, you will still be on empty servers with reduced chances to do anything except queue for flashpoints, and after you have had your fill of them you are back to sitting in that same empty server. I'm done in this thread, I am pretty sure I have made my point even though it's logic is lost on some that can't see we all want the same thing, I simply want the fix to be complete, and not just cosmetic. Thanks to all that have read, had a good back and forth with some of you.
  2. It does give you access to them, it also gives every other dps/healer access to them as well. So instead of battling on your server for the tank, you will battle all servers dps/healers for the tanks.
  3. I want them to make a droid class that replaces the current flight point guys. I will play that class and you will need me! Sry, its getting late and my mind wanders. I agree again though, you shouldn't have to play something you don't want to. Just ignore anyone that says otherwise.
  4. I get ya, finding a tank is always going to be the hardest part it seems. I personally love playing them but some people are I think afraid to have the feeling they are responsible for the entire groups success/failure. But, unless there is an unusally low percentage of tanks on your server, or a higher one on others, cross server wont make them appear and nothing will. It will most likely be close the same % on other servers, you might think that more servers = more tanks and it does when you right it down on paper, but you have to realize there will also be more of the other roles after those tanks as well. So if you have on your server(just random numbers my fingers hit) 70% dps, 20% healers, 10% tanks. That most likely wont change with lfg xserver. The combine player base will still look the same, 70-20-10. Again those aren't actually stats. Just numbers to try to get the point out.
  5. The hyperbole vs hyperbole battle rages on. But really where is it that lfg is coming? All I could find was on http://www.swtor.com/blog/community-qa-feb-10th-2012 which from what I read only refered to warzones, was there a post I missed somwhere else?
  6. Too late. No really I was just wanting to see your server population and wondered when you played and what that pop was during that time. I actually looked at it and thought to myself it seemed creepy but figured how else could I see?
  7. What server are you on and what times do you usually play?
  8. It's hard or impossible to say that nobody did low level dungeons in wow pre xserver with regards to merges, considering at least as far as I know wow has never merged any servers. Also they changed some of the longer dungeons into multiple sections via the tool and also added rewards for using the tool. So its hard to say if that actually had as much to do with it as you say. But I wouldn't say nobody did those pre xserver. Wow is also 2 full expansions past those dungeons and going on 8 years old? People also have access to the heirloom gear which ups the pace those dungeons can be ran from what they used to be. Now that I reread what I wrote there isn't much comparison to the current state of old wow dungeons and the state of tor fps right now. Now wait a few years and a few xpacks and they will make decent comparisons. There are posts right now on the wow official forums about "dead" servers and ah's. They even have removed some of the group requirements for the group quests to simply get rid of that problem. I get what you are saying about the bubble but this game is very very new, that shouldnt and won't come for a while. They are still adding content and picking up new players. If that player starts say at 1pm though where does he go to first? All the servers most likely are flagged standard/low at that time, he has no really way to see which is the best for him aside from the server type or location. Maybe he picks a low population server, there even in primetime he has trouble finding partners for flashpoints. You are right, he would benefit from having a xserver dungeon tool. But if he also wants to have an active gtn, Ilum, pool of players to select from to do group missions then he may be out of luck. If though he picked a higher pop server he might very well be able to see all those things right now. We want the same thing, only I want it all. Greedy right? The tool artificially populates servers,if the the tool allows you to accomplish what you want then that is great. But if you want all that plus all the perks a more robust population has to offer, then the tool simply can't do all of that. Personally I agree with an earlier post of both mine and another person. Merge servers AND add the tool. But don't attach bonus rewards to it. Doing both seems to fix it for everyone on both sides of this argument, at least in my mind it does. It keeps the "community" intact or even adds to it for those that are arguing that, it gives more people access to decent gtn's, it hopefully can help with Ilum issues, it gives more access to flashpoints both from increased populations and xserver options, it gives more access to raids groups or premade pvp groups, it gives more access to partners to do group missions with. I don't personally see a down side to doing both, unless you count the threads that will go up "the sky is falling, swtor servers merged" as an actual downside.
  9. Rift also added free xfers, and closed down at least 2 servers making them trial players only. Like I said above, I am not against cross server simply to be against cross server. I am against any game company using it as a fix all.
  10. This actually would not bother me at all, I am for this matter of fact But they need to merge first(I know childish right)Otherwise they probably won't ever do it and the threads with change from "lfg needed" to "my gtn is dead" or "can't find groups for group missions" and then the we get to have the same debate all over again.
  11. I didn't say it did. I said cross server doesn't fix these. Cross server leaves so many problems behind that merging can fix. No merging won't increase the % of tanks around unless theres some freak server with all tanks out there, which I doubt there is. But what I said is that cross server does not fix that. Sorry if it seemed like I was implying merges would change that, it isn't what I meant at all.
  12. Nothing can be the fix all, even with cross server you will still have to wait until others are after the same thing as you. It's just exasterbated right now because the current lfg thing is lacking, and chat is only planet wide. So there may be people on your server that would group for just about anything, but they may either not be on the same planet as you, not keep chat active, or simply don't like having to talk to someone else via chat and would rather just click a ui function to join a group. Merges AND a better server lfg tool would mitigate all of these issues and many others. Cross server would mitigate some of the flashpoint grouping issues but leave the rest. ie, empty gtns, no groups for group missions, empty pvp lakes for 1 or both factions.
  13. It wasn't a personal jab at all toward him and I don't remember saying you wanted to ruin my gameplay either. I simply stated that him touting that thread in his sig was shady at best, considering he bounces back and forth taking personal attacks at people in each. I personally have avoided using any of my, or anyone elses(for or against), personal experiences as reasons why I am against the lfg, and I don't think alot in this thread are against it for the same reason as me. It is optional in other games, with the option to not advance as quickly if you don't use the tool. So like I said earlier, if you use the tool should you get an extra reward for completing the use like in other games? What happens when there are no tanks/healers for the tool, will it be extra rewards to draw them in too like other games? If either of those is yes then its not optional anymore. I am trying to fix *your* problem too, but I prefer that it is fixed completely and doesn't skirt around the actual problem. I want them to merge the imbalanced and low pop servers to make the need for cross server noexistant and fix other problems at the same time. So unless *your* problem is that you simply want servers linked then my idea would also fix your problem, while keeping the people that are arguing it does something negative to the community(<--not me) happy at the same time. Both sides win, you have quicker groups, they have community. Fixt. Edit-Just to be clear. I am for a server wide lfg tool, something that is easy for people to use and could even auto link them to groups/players needing a group. I am against cross server lfg tools, because it leaves the same problems behind and only fixes the grouping for flashpoints problem. And doesn't do that great of a job at that, ie, lack of tanks/healers/times playing would still be an issue. Merge Servers
  14. This is just signing onto the same fear those games have an allowing them to dictate the direction of ALL games instead of just theirs. I realize they are the "powerhouse" of the mmo genre, but that doesn't mean all games should mimic their every move. Again cause I refuse to let my point go. People are right that the current lfg thing is fairly unfulfilling. But that doesn't mean that a cross server function is the fix all. Merge servers, it can help fix server pvp lakes grouping issues for raids/fp's/world bosses build longer lasting guilds for those that are into it make the gtn more active and have better prices lower cost for additional servers, adding more monies to actual development edit-The thread you tout in your sig doesn't even list the reason I am against the cross server function in the OP. Not to mention you keep jumping back and forth only adding filler to it and this. Merge Servers
  15. You are 100% correct that it seems to have some negative affect on random forum posters that probably don't play the game anyways. Does it scare you if they merge servers? I mean you know some are low population, that can be seen on the server listing. Same goes for any game, people know and can easily point out the low population. There are arguments going on right now in other games about people being lonely on low pop servers but not wanting to reroll or pay for an xfer. Me personally, I don't care how it looks if they merge them. It doesn't scare me into thinking the sky is falling and it shouldn't scare you either, if we let them know it doesn't scare us, and we think the game is fun even if some unnamed forum posters make it out to be armaggeddon. Then they maybe won't be scared too? There are other functions that will remain server only, those will not be fixed by cross server flashpoints at all. People who are on those low pop servers will still be trying to solo or have trouble finding groups for non flashpoint group missions, and Ilum(or any server wide pvp planet they may add) Which if they mask it now, then adding any more pvp "lakes" probably won't happen since it will only lead to more complaints about imbalance/low pop. Fix the actual problem, don't be scared is the best option.
