Hmm Sounds like you are tired of MMO's. Like it or not but this is the MMO's genre, you can if you want try a sandbox MMO but theres a reason they don't succeed.
My Advance take a break from MMO's try some FPS's, RPG's or something completely different.
This.
The things people are complaining about are things that's standard for the genre. It's like playing a new first person shooter and calling it a clone because you use the left mouse button to shoot.

This forum has turned to crap...

I know a lot of people don't want to hear this but it's better to re-roll than wait for BW to fix the problem.
I was on a dead server and my main was 32. At first I refused to re-roll because I didn't want to redo the same quests over again so soon. I started making characters on random servers so I could use /who to compare the population on those servers to mine. The difference in numbers was so staggering I just re-rolled on a healthy server. I chose a different class so at least that part of the game would be different. I can honestly say it feels like a entirely new game when there's life to your server.
If they ever offer transfers or merge servers I'll go back to playing my sage again but right now I'm just happy to be on a server with lots of people and a healthy economy.

I saw the title and was expecting to see a picture.

A lot of people come from other MMOs that are light on the story. So they are used to ignoring it. Unfortunately with SWTOR, the story is the main focus, when you ignore it TOR's other shortcoming become even more visible.
It doesn't mean anyone is dumb, just that this isn't their type of game.
This is a good point.
Most people are use to clicking through quest text and just playing the game. I've always been the type of person to get lost in game's story and enjoy the lore. In other MMOs I read every letter of text that I can. So having a game that's fully voiced is a big treat for people like me.
A story driven game isn't for everyone. But I think if people got the 'race to endgame and raid' mentality and accept that this game is different it'll be a lot more enjoyable.

I wonder how many people that make these threads are adults...

Not sure if this one has been mentioned.
Saw an Imperial agent in a WZ named Bames Jond.

It's childish to complain about something like this. No matter when they have downtime somebody will be unhappy. Downtime is a necessary evil for MMOs. It's a few hours here and there; you'll live.

I really want to be able to zoom out more...I have a large monitor and would like to see more things going on around my character, but i find it extremely frustrating that my HUGE body gets in the way...maybe increasing the factor at which the camera can zoom out. Other than that...game kicks butt!
I've seen this mentioned a few times so decided to respond.
Go to Options>Preferences>Controls
Set Camera Max Distance to your liking.

Might as well go with the 6870; some models are the same price as the 6850 and you get more performance.
As for the power supply anything Corsair or Antec should work fine. I think the 6870 needs a minimum 500w PSU. 4GB Ram should be fine.
Just out of curiousity what kind of CPU do you have? That could be holding you back also.
-
Not all new players do not have friends in this game. They may have friends who have already started playing the game before them, for example. So no, this would not work.
Anyone with a friend already playing gets a code to be allowed to go to that server.
-
Change the way the character creation works.
1)Choose Faction/Class/Race first.
2)Choose playstyle preference (PvE, PvP, RP-PvP, RP-PvE)
3)Put in invitation code (Explained later) if you have one.
4)Either get server you have invitation for or have one assigned to you by preference and time zone.
What this system would do is see where there are lower populations, and population imbalances, and attempt to prevent them from getting worse by assigning new players to the proper servers. If you have a guild or friend on a server they can generate you an invitation code that would allow you to make a character on that server the same faction as the invitation. If you choose to make characters on the opposing side you will still need to be assigned according to population needs unless you also have friends already on that server on the opposite side that can send you an invite.
There is no real downside to this system. Truly new players that do not know anyone have no reason to need to choose a specific server and those that do know people can still join them.
This is actually a good idea.

SWTOR is an awesome game... pity I picked the "wrong" server. I was sure that the Crucible Pits was going to be one of the heavy pop servers in the game. However, as time has unfolded, it is clearly only a "standard" pop server, and things are only going downhill from here.
Guess it's time to re-roll Swiftsure
Anyone else in this boat?
Same boat here. My server went from heavy to dying. I re-rolled on on more populated server even though I didn't feel like starting over. When it comes to choosing servers at launch it's pretty much luck of the draw.
-
So you think you have a right to tell me I cant play with my friends because you, who I dont know nor care about, want me to play with you instead?
It's not all about you. An entire Republic side should suffer faction imbalance and difficutly finding groups because you want to play with your friends?
-
I really can't see a game developer telling people what faction they must roll if they want to play the game. Whats next, making someone roll a specific class to create class balance?
It's called incentives. You give the underdog some perks (i.e. XP bonus) so more people roll there.
-
As a Republic player I don't want to see anyone locked out of their server of choice. That being said, anyone on the Empire needs to understand it sucks being a Republic player. We just want to be able to do group content and enjoy the game as much as you guys. I've always like playing the 'good' side so I don't want to roll Empire just to be able to find groups.
If they merge servers Empire will still outnumber the Republic side but at least we'll have more people to group with.
-
so stop everything we have worked for and start all over?! WOW if that is even an option in your head then you must have all the time in the world to play this game.
Notice how it's always the people happy with their server/faction telling other people re-roll?
-
The attitudes of some people here are pretty bad. People want to be on healthy servers so they can do group content. How is it somehow their fault servers are imbalanced and populations are low.
If the only solution is to "re-roll empire" than what's the point of having the Republic side at all?
-
It isn't their fault that you rolled on a low pop server when many of us were urging people to roll on servers that HAD queues at launch to avoid this issue.
I rolled on a server with a queue now its low pop. Was I suppose to be psychic and predict the population decline?
-
Wound in the force is the same as yours. Fatman was my second choice, but both are very populated servers. Here's the problem. Everyone was complaining about the queue times at launch, not thinking about the repercussions of what they were asking for. To all of you who are now complaining about low pop, here's what I have to say about it. Those of us who stuck it out during the long queue times, are now reaping the benefits. Why? Because this isn't our first game and we knew exactly what would happen, before it happened. Enjoy listening to crickets, until Bioware can once again, cater to your complaints.
There are a lot of people, like myself, who rolled on a populated server only to see it die over time. And, as its dying, more and more people leave to re-roll somewhere esle. Don't assume people complaining about low server pops are the same people who complained about queues.
-
what server r u playing on? Im on a standard server and its packed no matter what time of day it is...
The server your on makes a big difference. I was on dying server and reluctantly re-rolled on a more populated one and I'm enjoying the game a lot more. My old server would never have more than 15 people in the starting zones during prime time. My new server usually has 60+ in those same zones.
This early in the game's life there shouldn't be any dead servers. They opened too many servers in response to complaints about queues and now the population is spread too thin. Hopefully they either merge or allow server transfers for people stuck on low pop servers.
-
Your server is probably still growing. I'd bet all the lower level planets are packed. Just give it more time. People will level up
On my 'light' populated server there were 11 people on Tython at this moment. Just out of curiosity I made a new chararcter on a 'standard' server and were 47 people on Tython. These were both east coast servers. I know this isn't a perfect way to access server pops but it tells the story of why people want of their dying servers.
As far as low pop servers growing I don't see it happening. If your new to the game your more likely to roll on a busy server than one that's light. So the higher pop servers will keep on growing while the lower pop servers will continue to die.
-
Okay, let me get this straight. You picked a server completely at random, then you find out it turns out to be one of the lower pop servers (true or not true, who knows), then . . . get this . . . instead of just you yourself rolling a new character on a server marked as HIGH pop, you want Bioware, just to please you, to all of a sudden institute and assign personnel to a server transfer team
Yes it's up to Bioware to fix the problem.
Nobody here is psychic. How were we suppose to know our server would become low pop? Do you realize a lot of us rolled in the servers when they had heavy populations but they dropped over time? Do you think its fair we have to do all the content over we just did because we were unlucky enough to pick a bad server?
-
I'm on a low pop server also. Even though I'm only approaching level 30 I don't feel like re-rolling and starting over from scratch. Gonna hold out a little while longer and hope they offer transfers soon.
Lack of depth and long term value. Suggestions and ideas required!

I agree with the OP 100%.
I plan on sticking around for the long haul but this game definitely lacks depth. A good MMO feels like a living, breathing world that continues on even after you've logged off. SWTOR feels like a video game.
Crafting, housing, and exploration are some things that can break up the monotony of the game. All there is to do now is kill everything in sight.
Crafting needs to be revamped so its actually meaningful. EQ2 is an example of crafting done right. You can make useful items that sell even at early levels. There are professions that make everything from weapons and armor to furniture and food. Gathering rares, creating mastercrafted items, and playing the market is almost a separate game in itself.
I think SWTOR is headed in the right direction but it's important BW realizes people will consume content faster than they create it; especially with the high production quality of their story driven content. It's important to have side content that takes people away from questing from time to time.
