  1. Jedi would get massacred by our "primitive weapons". The lasers they dodge and parry move at speeds so slow the human eye can follow them. Try parrying a squad of elite soldiers firing machine guns at you, mister Jedi ^^ Sure, they could probably nuke an entire planet and thereby destroy us, but if they wanted to come down and fight us they would get their asses kicked. In the movies, when portraying large battles, their main tactic seems to just horde together and move forward. Pretty damn dumb. And don't tell me we can't shoot through storm trooper armor, or their walkers, or anything of the sort, cause if Ewok arrows can pierce them, and a log can smash an AT-ST so can bullets.
  2. The fights look flashy, but if you seriously think this is a viable way to fight with a sword, then you need to rewatch some of those fights. There are a riduclous amount of times where either opponent could have stabbed the other, leading to death or mutilation since lightsabers don't even require much strength to cut through anything. There is literally a scene where Obi Wan is behind maul, and instead of striking him, he twirls his saber around. Same goes for the fight between Anakin and Obi (although this is better). Also, swinging a sword in a fight IS meant to hurt the opponent. If not, the fight would take forever. This of course depends on what type of swords we are talking about, since longswords and the like would require massive force to do any damage to plate armor, and were mostly used for stabbing in that case. Fighting with a Katana isn't meant for disarming the opponent either, but striking, or cutting him with the tip of the sword, something that lightsabers would be good at, seeing as they are sharp all over and don't need more than the tip anyways. Fencing is another style that would apply well to lightsabers, considering their light weight. Here your point would make sense, since you would be holding the lightsaber in one hand, and would be more prone to being disarmed, but again this would prove invalid since you wouldn't actually need to get that close to harm your opponent significantly, due to the lethality of the weapon.
  3. This. Was not what the OT was about. The only reason you might say that the OT is the story of Vader, is because of the new trilogy. The OT is basically an adventure trilogy, set in a mysterious galaxy that somehow manages to mix up medieval aspects (a brave knight saving the princess) with futuristic aspects. The main character is Luke, without a doubt. Throughout all of it Vader is not even the main villain, the Empire is.
  4. Granted, not many. A friend of mine practices some type of historical longsword fighting deal (dont remember if it was italian, or german) and it looks nothing like it does in most movies. Obviously you would have to take into account the fact that armor is involved, and that longswords were, a lot of the time used in two hands, with one mailed gauntlet actually holding the sword blade to penetrate armor, yet it doesn't change the fact that the lightsaber fighting seen in the prequels is inneffective at best. There are several times where obi could have struck down Maul for instance, but instead chose to twirl his lightsaber around. I realise most of this is just to make it look good and flashy, but there are plenty of good swordfights out there that are far more realistic. The one in die another day for instance, as someone mentioned here. The one with (ironically) Liam Neeson in Rob Roy is also a favorite of mine, and when it comes to Star Wars, nothing beats Vader vs Luke in their last fight, in sheer intensity. Again, this is just my opinion. I enjoyed seeing some more, and varied ligthsaber fighting, but it could have been executed without feeling like a choreographed dance routine.
  5. Red letter media, nuff said. The whole prequel saga is pointless. It tells the story of a bunch of characters without giving us reasons for us to be attached to them at all. You can say what you will about what it does for Star Wars in general (although, here, I still think it just pretty much ****s over the lore of the original trilogy) but the main point is that the movies are shut ******. Dialogue is crap: "Love wont save you padme... only my new powers will!" characters are uninteresting: a bunch of homogenous Jedi and a whiney brat? story is pointless, unengaging and needlessly complicated: What was the phantom menace about? Why the blockade? Lightsaber fights look like choreographed dance moves. Sure, it looks good, but at times it's just painfully obvious that they are just waving around sticks and not intending to kill each other. You can literally see that pretty much every single slash, hit and lunge isn't meant to kill, only strike the other lightsaber to make it look better. Luke vs Vader was far more intense than any other ligthsaber battle. Also, they make the jedi seem trivial. They die by droves and everyone and their mother has a lightsaber. There is a reason why the idea of stormtroopers having ligthsabers was discarded; It makes the whole thing seems trivial.
  6. I have been thinking the EXACT same thing! Not only that, but they are inept to degrees that make me question how the were even getting anything done before I came along. I get that they want your character to remain heroic, but not every single mission has to revolve around you recovering some wordl destroying weapony/device. mission 1: We just lost a weapon that we were developing that can demolish WORLDS! me: seriously? Shouldn't this be.. I dont know.. Guarded a little better? mission 2: We just lost a gadget that we were developing that can demolish WORLDS! me: AGAIN? How many of these devices are you making? mission 3: We just lost a serum that injects soldiers with the power to demolish WORLDS! me: have you learned nothing?!?
  7. I believe the fight ended in an incredibly lame way, which made little sense. Also, claiming that Obi Wan won because he had taught Anakin and knew his moves goes both ways, seeing as how Anakin would also know Obi's moves. Firstly, I think Lucas handled Obi Wan poorly, which is why the last fight made little sense, consdiering how easily Obi Wan was defeated by Dooku both times. This has nothing to do with lore, or anything, just Lucas not having his head straight on. Secondly, I believe that Anakin's fall to the darkside caused upheaval in his emotions to a point where pure rage took over and thereby introducing a lack of discipline. Also, in his heart, Anakin knew that Obi Wan had nothing to do with his fall to the dark side, and if you ask me, showed regrets of his fall even then, realising he had done something wrong. By attacking Obi Wan he was not trying to convince Obi that he was doing the right thing, but trying to convince himself. He didn't have his whole heart in it. NOW! Obi on the other hand, was more experienced, and knew better how to control his emotions, even anger. He did this in episode 1 vs maul, and I believe that he was driven by emotion in the fight vs anakin as well.
  8. Many, MANY things are wrong with the prequels. The main one is that the story is not really worth telling. Let's take the original movies; They are about a band of rebels defeating a superior force, and end with the return of the jedi, seeing Luke as the chosen one, restoring peace to the galaxy (expanded universe not taken into account) Now, take the prequels... What are they telling that is so important? The fall of Anakin to the dark side? The prequels dont even seem like they are about Anakin, as he does nothing of import, and nothing that could not have been accomplished by anyone, or anything else. I dare you to name ONE thing (other than being the father to Luke and Leia) that Anakin did that made him so great. The whole clone wars deal was staged. The seperatists were never going to win, the war was a ploy for Palpatine to get power. WIth or without Anakin this would have happened. Also, the lightsaber fights, although awesome, at closer inspection are just.. so damn choreographed.. Yeah they look great, but there are a million times that obi could have killed maul outright, yet didn't. Best fight to date is in ROTJ imo, especially near the end where Luke loses his temper <3 ALSO! Redlettermedia = Nuff said. Sorry for the rant, the prequels just ***** my childhood.
  9. Obi. I'm convinced Ben could have held Vader there for as long as he wanted, even ending him at some point. The reason he sacrificed himself was because he knew Luke wouldn't run if he were still alive and fighting, and he wouldn't be able to finish off Vader fast enough. Then again, I just like old Ben Kenobi, and Hayden Christensen ruined Vader for me.
