  1. Sorry... I don't understand what's being said here. Obviously I understand the idea that one would have to do more than just hack and slash to get through this one... that's a point a lot of us are making. "This is not casual-friendly it's outright boring" is what confuses me. Sure, I can see how this flashpoint isn't casual-friendly... but boring? I found it to be quite entertaining, as I said in my previous post. It sounds to me like the poster is saying "it's boring because it's hard... make it easy so I can get excited!" I don't think that was the intention... sorry if I mis-interpreted. I don't think BW is making everything easy, either. There are some pretty challenging flashpoints out there... Boarding Party, Athis, Cade. My question to the poster would be this: at what level are you attempting to complete these flashpoints that make you think they're so easy? I might make the point that if you're attempting them at +5 levels above the recommended level, it could get easy... but for those who run through them at the appropriate level... maybe not so much. Perhaps instead of attacking BW for delivering great content in the first place, we should look inward at ourselves and ask: "am I appropriately leveled and partied for this flashpoint? What kind of challenge should I expect?" Anyway, enjoy! And troll responsibly!
  2. I did my first run of this Flashpoint yesterday after an exhausting run through three others. I have to say, I thought it was amazing. I loved the layout, the strategy, and the challenge. It certainly wasn't a "kill everything now!" kind of flashpoint. I think they did a great job of presenting something very different to the player... a puzzle. It reminded me a bit of some of the thinking I had to do when I ran through God of War, 1-3. I love that! I hope to play this flashpoint again, though not too soon. It was brutal. First, someone made a comment about how everyone had to be a tank. Completely not true. I play a tank, but the three others were the standard spread. We did very well considering we attempted it with no tutorial and no outside info. The turrets were neat, and a bit counter intuitive... aim over your opposite ally? Weird. But, it works so much better when your allies are in your field of view and you're covering their back. The second set of turrets, one of them dissapeared. We fought it through in one shot with only three guns... I don't know if that was intended or a bug, but whatever. Our healer jumped off his and threw heals out everywhere...lol. Great job, Greywolf Thewise! Now, on to the maze. First, panicking over the fire and the knockback seems silly. Each toon at that level has this thing they can do which will knock back the enemy. There was only maybe 2 enemies at this stage which were immune to that effect. Simple strategy? Jump next to them, knock them off the platform. Done. Moving on. I don't see why so many people complained about the bugginess of this part. If you're patient and can wait for your knockback cooldowns, you can hit the terminals and send one guy along to the next pretty easily. The spawns didn't pop until we were advenced to the next phase of the puzzle so we were all available to help defeat it... these were usually the ones who couldn't be pushed. Funniest thing I've seen in the entire game? The last droid. Oh, wait... the arena beasts. Yeah, whatever. CC and Tank and Spank. Done. So... last droid. I learned the hard way that you can't go toe to toe with this guy, even with the best tank, best gear, and best healer. You just can't. He killed me in like... maybe 2-3 hits. I hit every button I had for damage reduction, shielding, force healing, rage... healer was popping all he could. I held hate fairly well... right up until I died. Luckily, the droid's health was... 1/4 down by that point. What I saw after that was inspiring and epic. Three PCs, a healer, a powertech, and a sorcerer, all kited this thing until the bitter end. They did an amazing job at keeping the droid at range, and pelting it with attacks from a safe distance. Really good show to be seen from my back! So, I guess my summary is: Epic. Really well done. I love it. Points of advice: 1) Use Vent, if you can (we didn't). 2) Don't rush. 3) Don't get all up in the last droid's face. -Kebesh
  3. Very true! I guess that's why I'm not even going to try it...lol
  4. The neat thing about the applets for the G-series keyboards is that you don't have to write one for each model. The software works across them all... legacy software may be required for the older models but so what? It functions the same. I'm running the legacy software on my newer G510 simply because I prefer the UI. The new software is pretty snazzy too though. I've read about the applets too. You can write your own if you have a Visual Studio 5 package on your machine. The only think you'd need from BioWare is the game I/O (APIs?). There's been a lot of chatter about that though, and I think so far the bias is to stay away from opening the APIs. If they open the APIs, very quickly developers could introduce a lot of seemingly great applets for the game, but stuff that could completely alter the game experience. For example, gearscore. Maybe a lot of people like/need it... I don't. But if they introduce it as an app, I'll HAVE to have it in order to keep up with everyone else and be a viable game participant. Granted, that's a pretty extreme assumption... but I think that's the point. We (judging by the forum chatter here) seem to want to keep the game fair, keep to the stories, and be able to interact without limiting our perspective with judgements based on some contrived number thinking the higher numbers mean higher skill and higher viability. /imho So, bump for useful apps! Maybe they're planning on releasing some in the future as "sponsored" apps to limit the cheese.
  5. PS... I apparently can't type. Grammar / spelling trolls, feel free to flame on! Sorry.
  6. Hey guys, I'm just poking around for ideas here. I've spent some time with my G510 and my Razr Naga for obvious reasons. I have 18 G-keys and 12 mouse buttons to program nifty things into. So far I have G1-G5 assigned to select the corrosponding ability row (bottom center) using an assigned sequence "cnrtl+alt+[num]". G6 is my PTT button. I'm assigning left tab as my jump button since it's easier to hit that one with my thumb as I'm settled on the G-keys during combat. The space bar will then be my PTT assignment (adjusted through the game preferences). G7 through G18 are assigned to 1 through =. It's a readlly generic way to be able to access all the abilities as quickly as I know how... there's a lot of abilities and they don't all fit into one row. There's no LCD apps out yet, which is a bummer, but I'm sure they'll come as the gaem evolves and grows. If I had Visual Studio 5 I could make some apps, but even then I don't think the game allows for those kinds of interfaces yet. It'd be nice to see soemthing like gear durability and DPS in real time, maybe some defense stats showing how well I'm warding off the enemies. It could help me better utilize my saber ward and other related abilities... and it could also help me decide which pieces of gear are more critical to replace. I mean, it's not trolling or being an elitist... in real life if you're wearing armor, you're going to know which pieces are doing a good job and which pieces need improvements, etc. The only think I'm having trouble with still is getting the macros to work in game. They seem to record just fine, but when I try to run them with a G-key the game seem to get confused... for example, a macro to say "hello guild!" (as a test) starts the guild chat but then doesn't enter the text... it just opens the menu panes if the letter is the right letter for it... (it would make more sense if I wrote out the command sequence... sorry). Anyway, ideas are appreciated. I'm always looking to improve my gaming skills and efficiency!
  7. I'll second this! I was looking the other day for a link to a place where I could view my toon and check into things happening with auction trends, etc. It would be useful for one huge reason... I can't log into the game itself at work, but during my lunch break (like now) I can spend time on the forums and read about the game, etc. So... yeah. Allowing me to log in for these things would be awesome while I'm eating my sammiches!
  8. Exciting! I'm looking forward to a couple of things: 1) Bunny armor on easter. 2) Santa armor on Christmas. 3) Pumpkin headgear on Halloween. 4) Pirate garb at all times. 5) The ability to keep the look of the headgear which wraps under the chin, leaving the top of the head open, while still advancing in ratings as my toon levels. (I just got new headgear and it looks like a WWII gunner crew helmet... I want to show off my sexy hair again! lol)
  9. I use the /bow emote. It's quicker, and still shows appreciation. Sometimes I can't click fast enough though before they've already run off. So, if you see any of my toons (Kebesh on Vulkar Highway, Sith Jugg.; and Greyanna on Firkrann Crystal, Jedi Shadow) dying and you throw a heal my way, just know that this is a blanket thank you in case I miss you or get distracted and forget!
  10. I tried to diligently read through this thread so I would avoid repeating something. Sorry if my 2 credits here is just a regurgitation... Recently I have been doing a LOT of reading with regard to abilities, potential builds, discussions about rotations and how to efficiently employ your game abilities and such. I've paid special attention to the skill tree and how my selections buff / debuff my abilities, and what rotation adjustments I should make to improve my combat effectiveness and survivability. That being said, I would like to assert to the OP that you may get a better warm-fuzzy feeling if you employ a similar introspective strategy for optimizing your toon. Additionally, this game seems to encourage more interaction with other players (ie awarding social points for group discussion scenarios, etc). I don't want to attack the OP for his preference in using an app to help improve his toon or his game play strategies. The fact is that some people lack the time or intellectual capacity for digging in that deep and doing the statistical analysis to find the optimum relationships between gear, skill tree, and ability rotations. What I do have a problem with in regard to the OP is the attitude... "I'm an elite player" just doesn't sit well with me. So, the suggestion that we need an app to produce some kind of caste system based strictly on gear score is basically offensive to me. Any idiot can gear up with the highest end stuff they can find and by sheer statistical avantage do really well. So, in conclusion I'd like to say kudos to all the people who oppose this idea, and to the people who assert that gearscore does not imply skill. Correlation does not imply causation, in statistical terms. Thanks for a good read during my lunch break to all! I hope my response didn't seem useless or boring.
