  1. They cited things like having a color blind friendly map. Multiple people with disablities have posted in this thread. Friends saying that veterans with disablities coming back and having fun in SWTOR because it's accesible.

    Sounds like a nice story,

I'm happy that people are enjoying the game. But I think the game could be more accessible for everyone.

  2. The cynic in me really finds fault with this. I mean I'm all for allowing disabled gamers more accessibility within these games....but this award seems like a pr stunt. Most if not all of the things they mentioned are pretty widespread throughout the MMO industry.

Also the touting of the keybinding and companion features just read like it was written by someone who had never payed an MMO. The companion actually makes it harder since it actually gives you more buttons to hit. And the keybinding situation is worse than most with not bindable keys and an insane amount of ability bloat.

I really hope I'm wrong about it....just seems like a pandering pr stunt.

I'm not alone in the universe

  3. I'm glad that it has those features for people who need it. I think they could do a lot more and they are planning to bring in UI changes. Which is great.

But there are other games out there that are probably more deserving of the title, and the UI of SWTOR is subpar for when it has been released.

Don't ask me what games are more accessible in 2011, I haven't played enough, but I know I have come from older games that have been better.

  4. I'm not sure why you keep responding, They got a reward it was nice and it's a good story. I personally don't care that you think they shouldn't have gotten the reward since it's from the disabled society not something you need to approve.

If you have a complaint maybe you should complain to the disabled society and see how well that goes over.

So I can't disapprove of something a disabled society does? Because... Please tell me.

I have given you step by step points why I disagree. You have told me that I haven't read the article. And I'm not allowed to argue with disabled people, without even having a clue what my personal background is.

    I dispair.

  5. That was only one of the features, you may to to click the link in the article.

Either way i'm not sure why you seem agitated they recevied a reward especially considering the source probably has a good idea.

This is bizzare to me that a disabled group gives an award for something like this and people still hate. Move to something else this is a nice story and from the other posts in this thread people appreciate it.

full subtitles, queue-able actions, multiple action bars, area looting, auto looting, and built-in mouse sensitivity.

Subtitles - most games, queuable actions - most mmos, multiple action bars ? You cant add enough action bars. Area looting? Meh its nice, not groundbreaking.

Mouse sensitivity? Gee whizz they spoiling us.

Other built-in features such as automatically turning to face the monster you are killing, mini map colors being colorblind friendly, full subtitles, and the ability to control the entire game from the keyboard or with the mouse, only increase the reasons to herald this game as a success for game accessibility

Not even sure the first one is true, could be wrong would have to try it. Mini map colours being colourblind friendly? Just the minimap? I'm not colourblind but I'd be looking for more than just that.

    Subtitles again...

Control the entire game from the keyboard or with the mouse?! Most games that aren't FPS then.

The developers do have room for improvement by adding features such as click to move, close captioning, and the inclusion of mods to allow things like UI movement, text size changes, and small changes deemed necessary by the player base.

Or UI Scaling, or being able to use all your keys. Or Macros.

However, with Star Wars enabling the ability to use on-screen keyboards, voice activation software, and mouse sensitivity settings, the game can be forgiven for a few shortcomings while hitting the major targets.

Voice activation and on-screen keyboards that aren't provided by the game and aren't intentionally provided for? Just happen to be usable but not in full screen mode according to their review btw.

  6. I think you miss what they are saying you may want to read the article.

    Do you mean:

Perhaps one of the most unintentionally accessibility features turned out to be the addition of companions. These NPC characters which accompany the player through most of the game provide support to those who need it without forcing them to request help from other players.

They balanced single player game about having a UI bot where you cant properly ACCESS their controls because it takes up one of your quickbar slots?

Either the game is balanced around being on your own, or its balanced about being on your own with an automated UI character. That doesn't make the game more accessible?!

  7. Did you read the article on Able Gamer's website?

They mentioned those things in the full article and why they still picked SWTOR.

Yes, SWTOR has brought nothing new to the table that lots of other games haven't brought to the table and done better. It has a long way to go with UI improvements that terming it the most accessible game of the year is insulting.

  8. Sigh, they are just saying that MMOs in general with basic key clicks rather than twitch response are 'accesible' and have picked SWTOR to jump on some publicity bandwagon, disappointing. :(

SWTOR is not the most accesible MMO/Game of 2011 by a long way. I cant bind a number of my keys (` or \). I cant even scale or adjust the UI. I've said this before and I'll say it again Mods/Macros/Addons are great ways to make games accessible for the disabled, all of which this game lacks.

  9. It's not working.. Either;

    1) People vote for their premade pals.

    2) People don't vote at all.

    3) People vote for random people who don't deserve it.

Therefore, the system really doesn't serve any purpose. For example I routinely do top dmg, top heals, but don't get any MVP while other random people do. It makes no sense. MVP awards should be automatic, based on the stats during the match. That would make it fair, and honorable because right now it's just a mess.

    Anyone else agree?

The medals are the automatic MVP system.

  10. I just got my 4 piece set bonus, which adds +5 energy.

I was thinking that would be great, as it would increase our max energy regen range from

    60-100 to 60-105.

Unfortunately I just tested it, and our energy regen rate is based on our energy %, so now we get max regen at 63-105, really only an extra energy regen range gain of 2... Bah!

Also trying to keep track of your energy is more difficult because I've been looking at the % on the RHS of the bar for the past 50 levels, now thats inaccurate. Fleh.

  11. hmm any chance of seeing your spec??? i didn't take the last 3 items in the sawbone specs so i don't have the 10/20/30% crit increase of the aoe heal.. i wonder if those alone make that HUGE of a difference.....

The points in Diagnostic scan are pretty worthless for PVP. Those 3 points in Accomplished Sawbones increase your UWM and Kolto Pack as well not just the AOE?

Without having a healing meter to look at I'd imagine most of my PVP healing comes from SRMP, EMP, Kolto Cloud then UWM.

  12. Bah, I needed shoot first and my relic to get my 2.5k damage medal in battlegrounds as a sawbones and that was against low levels. Now with a 50 bracket I generally dont get anywhere near 2.5k and wont be able to with it nerfed further!
  13. Im normally top healer when I pvp, although there's normally only 1! I generally beat sages but they have on occasion beaten me (rarely see commando healers tbh). I'm fully Sawbones (with diagnostic scan stuff that I rarely use unless I blow all my energy).

Top heals so far is probably around 450-470k generally on a voidstar but I have managed to get around 400k on huttball. Sometimes I will only do ~100k healing, still be top, and we will win comfortably, it really depends on the match.

EMP is a joy to use, I have kept people alive at about 10-15% for upwards of 20seconds before which must be terribly frustrating for the 2-3 enemies that are hitting them. Plus when you've been spamming EMP to keep low people up you generally will have full energy so you can throw out a kolto cloud on the pack or will have full energy to throw out an UWM to start recovering them.

EMP on yourself is also always a laugh, running around circles by one of the east/west turrets getting out of LOS by running down the stairs, around the edge and back up again.

Keeping track of SRMP in PvP can be a bit of a nightmare, so I generally just throw it around liberally to keep it up. Try and use up your 2nd UH asap on an EMP to top people up as it could proc again at anytime.

Use triage regularly if specced, especially if the person has lots of debuffs! It seems to have 2 heal components (I guess a heal component for each of the debuffs it is supposed to clear). Dunno if thats a bug or not!

Use your shield and dodge often, they are on quite a short cooldown. Flashbangs and dirty kicks help your survival, and try and interrupt the enemy healer too :D

The fact that you can keep HOTing and EMPing whilst you move, people cant see you casting heals so I often can do it with impunity. THat and running around like a headless chicken seems to keep most people off me.

  14. The 4 set bonus on PVE is crap, as no-one really uses kolto pack as far as I'm aware.

The 4 set bonus on PVP gear (+5 energy) I can imagine is pretty good making it much easier to stay in that max regen band. That said I need one more piece to start playing with it so will have to wait and see.

  15. With talent points it is quite a nice instant heal when upper hand isn't available for EMP.

It is hard to see what you can dispell though, especially as half the debuffs share the same icons so you dont know if its Force/Physical/Tech or whatever the groups are.
