I was going to write a long post about how I was worried that this would destroy community. I realized I'd be rehashing everythign others have said. So I'll put it like this instead:
a MMO can go one of two routes:
1) Focus on the Massive
We open things up so that you can do anything you want with random faceless people. You don't have to ask, the game will find these faceless people for you. And you don't have to see them ever again either, because they don't play on your server!
2) Focus on Community
Your queues are longer. But you can build a name and a reputation. People know you, what you do and whether or not you're good at it. While your guild might be your family, your server becomes your extended family.
I'm in favor of (2) obviously. I'll take queues that are 2-3 minutes. Hell I'd take 30 minute queues. And I'll have fun because I know who I'm playing with and against. And win or lose, that's something I find fun.
Want shorter queues or a different spread of maps? Watch server balance and size.
