  1. The only thing i basically disagree is bacta infusion. It might be nice, but the "once in 21 seconds" plus having to invest 6 points to get it makes me prefer other abilities. (To explain the "6 points", i consider 3% increase on crit healing a bad deal when i can have +3% aim elsewhere. Those +3% aim affect all healing and damage i do, not only my critical heals. )

    This is my current spec:

    http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#800bfRMRkcdkqZMcoMZb.1

"Heavy Stock" is actually weapon calibrations in-game, which increases alacracity with 4%

Heavy Trooper above Advanced Tech was a personal pref

But I have all the necessary healing and stats talents, and bacta infusion... which in my mind is a MUST HAVE. The only talents I'm missing are DPS abilities, which isn't my role anyway.

I use it as fast as it gets off cooldown, it's completely free, and it isn't affected by global cooldown. It's a great ability to top up party members (or myself) other then the tank, or an "oh s***" button if someone takes burst damage.

  2. You're just too low level at the moment. You lack the proper abilities, and gear.

I'm a level 50 commando, and PvP healing is where I excel. I rarely run out of ammo, and I barely get killed.

    Ammo management:

Field Triage (Advanced Medical Probe -> Medical Probe costs me 4 ammo)

Bacta Infusion - A free instant heal that I can use every 21s

Reserve Powercell - Next ability is free (Means Advanced Medical Probe -> Medical probe costs me 1 ammo)

Supercharge cells - 2 energy cells, and I can spam AMP - MP

    Survivability:

I rarely get targeted, as I am ranged, and I never use hammer shots to heal (That's like holding a sign above your head saying "please kill me"). When I do get targeted, I never fight back, I just make whoever chasing me, regret it:

Reactive shield (specced combat shield) - 25% less damage, added 30% less pusback, and immune to interrupts

Adrenaline Rush - Restores 15% of health over 10 seconds

Trauma Probe - I have 31% crit chance unbuffed, and this little guy crit heals for around 500 every 3 seconds.

    Bacta infusion - Instant heal

Kolto bomb - Heal while moving

Tech Override - Next ability is instant (means you can use medical probe while running).

Oh, and I never just stand there while getting targeted, I run around like crazy, trying to hide behind every obstacle i can find, just to pop a heal.

Combine all that, and you are an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE to kill. Most people just give up after a few seconds, and go for easier kills.

Oh, but this was before the Ilum patch, now all my enemies have Battlemaster gear and I get owned no matter.

  3. it cant be all that bad?

It's not, but it's a difficult question. There are a lot of specs, and situations.

In PvP warzones specced as a healer:

    - If you are focused fired by two players and don't get help, you're dead

    - If you are targeted by one player, you can survive for ages and heal yourself, but that's about it

    - If you aren't targeted, you can spam heals from the background and do some AoE damage every once in a while

    Duelling: Who cares?

World PvP: So many different class / companion combinations that it's impossible to say.

  4. Jorgan... and I didn't like the guy AT ALL! But after a while, I'm really happy I did. I warmed up to him, and he is my favourite companion at the moment. Though he doesn't always agree with my decisions, we get along well.

Why? He was the most qualified, I trusted him more, and Dorne had just joined Havoc Squad. Besides, Havoc Squad felt more "united" with Jorgan as a lieutenant. If I had promoted Dorne, Jorgan would've probably never forgiven me. I'm forced to work with the guy, we might as well be a proper team.

It was the right decision as a Captain.

  5. Switch from standard WASD one right to ESDF.

You'll open up the keys QWA and RTYGV for instant access, and you can double bind them and the numeric keys by adding the ALT-key. Takes a little getting used to, but play a level or ten, and you'll be pressing the right buttons in no time!

No more limited mobility when trying to use an ability, and a bunch of split seconds saved!

  6. Yeah, it's always fun watching a solid chunk of the community leaving the game, am I right?

It will make the game so much better, I mean, BW/EA definitely don't need the millions of dollars these whiners potentially could have earned them. Who needs players with standards, when they have zombie players who are satisfied with unbalanced classes, delayed combat, buggy UI, LOS environment issues, bugged flashpoints, and a PvP reward system based on pure luck?

Like OP, I'm happy because: lightsaber.

    Discuss.

Edit: I am so tired, I completely missed OPs point... which was even pointed out in the title. Off to bed

  7. Each flashpoint, we experience the same: Need on items for companions, or greed great items, just to have it lost to someone who will vendor it to the medical droid outside the flashpoint.

I don't know if a need for companion button would be too much, but man, it sure would be nice

  8. I rolled commando, currently level 41. Now I'm hearing our healing is lackluster compared to sage healing, and that we are PvP focused healers. I definitely know how difficult it is to heal up the entire party, as my heals are channeled single target, and how difficult it can be to manage ammo during "oh s***" moments... but I was hoping all classes had the same issue.

Should have seen it coming though... heavy armor, huge gun... can't have it all.

I'm a PvE lover. I rarely PvP, but I love raiding. Should I reroll sage, or stick to it?

  9. 2) Commando healing sucks in PvE. Reroll Sage for godmode. We don't even get a combat rez, let alone the shields, pull and overpowered AoE heal. In PvP you're fantastically tanky and it works a treat - unfortunately this doesn't matter so much in PvE. I'm currently leveling a Scoundrel to 50 because I'm too stubborn to accept that only Sages can heal effectively.

    oh... no...

I wanted to be a healer so bad in this game, and really didn't want to be a force user. Of course I chose commando... of course, they are undesired healers... and I'm level 41. Why... WHYYYY!?

They'll probably never balance it out either, because we use heavy armor :(

  10. I'm a level 40 trooper commando, specced fully into the healing tree

Warzone healing is pretty fun, as long as you are in the right positions. When people say "try staying behind as a healer", they don't mean it literally. Find the best vantage point, where you can escape or push people away easily too.

At the moment, I heal around 150-200k, and have less then 10 deaths each round. If the healing is heavy, I don't bother healing the low level players, but make sure the higher level players stay alive. They do the most damage, and are prioritized.

There's usually one (maybe two) more dedicated healer on the team when I PvP, which seems to be enough most of the time. Even with just one good healer, a lot of key battles are won, unless the other team is clever enough to send one on me to keep me distracted from healing teammates.

At the moment, I am really enjoying the noobiness of the players. The trend is that people give up trying to kill me since I am too frustrating to kill... so they target other classes, and allow me to heal them up :p

Edit: Oh, and one more thing

I NEVER use hammershot. That's as bad as holding a huge, neon sign saying "target me, I'm a healer". As a commando, I can stay in the battle, looking nothing like a healer in my heavy armor and carrying an assault gun, making very discreet healing animations... With my spec, and a proper healing rotation, you rarely run out of ammo.

  11. Here are a couple non-commando specific tips:

    1: Commendations!

After completing a quest, you generally get to chose between two-three rewards. One is an item, one is a commendation, and sometimes you get to choose a lockbox. If you don't need the item, the best pick is usually to pick commendations

Commendations can be used to buy gear and modifications that are generally better then quest rewards! (Look for a commendations vendor when entering a new planet to see what you can purchase and what you need to save up for)

2: Don't sell your orange gear!

Orange gear can constantly be upgraded to match your level! If you have a full set of orange gear, you only need to worry about finding better modifications (commendation vendors always have a bunch). You can use orange gear on your companions too. You can also take out all the modifications off the item, and use it on another one if you prefer the looks (will cost credits). Store your "old" orange gear, unless the armor looks extremely ugly :p

    3: Crew skills!

Don't spend too much money on crew skills, specifically mission skills! If you can, wait until level 50 before you try to max out. You will get rewarded with better items through questing, and if you don't, you'll find it way cheaper to just buy an item directly from the global market, rather then trying to learn the schematic, and finding the mats. You will need the credits for far more important things, like gearing up your companions, repairing your gear, buying skills and speeders, and starship upgrades.

    4: Don't forget your companion

He/she does about half the work when you are questing alone, so it's almost equally as important to gear them up, as you gear yourself.

    5: UI Freeze bug

You don't know what it is, but it will happen to you, and when you realize what has happened, remember this: Ctrl+U twice. ;)

  12. At around level 20 I realized that I had way too many abilities than hotkeys available. I did not have a fancy mouse either.

I rebinded from WASD to RDFG, making several new binds available to immediate reach.

The issue with WASD is that you only have "Q" as a keybinding on the left side. Switching it over to RDFG, you suddenly have QWEASZX as additional keybindings on the left side of your hand, without the need to ever move your had away from RDFG.

  13. You guys are doing it wrong.

Fourex is amazing, and my main companion. I didn't use him for the first couple of levels, but now he never leaves my side.

I am specced full on healing, and my DPS is lackluster. I have geared up fourex a bit, and he does what he is supposed to do. He takes aggro off the elites, and tanks them for me, while we slow DPS them down together. When he gets to half HP, I pop a couple of heals on him before going back to dealing damage.

On difficult elites, I sometimes barely attack the enemy. I do as a healer is supposed to do: I heal my companion while he does most the damage. It certainly takes longer then average, but it's safe and enjoyable. I get to practice my combat medic role, my healing rotations, and get used target switching.

Though killing enemies went a lot faster using Aric Jorgan, it also meant certain death if we pulled wrong. With Fourex, I can accidentally pull two groups, or a couple of elites, and still have full control over the situation.

  14. Last night I came home after work to play SWTOR. I wait 1 hour in queue, play for a couple of minutes, and then I disconnect. When I try to log back in, I'm number 802 in queue again. That was how my night was spent last night.

Devs have responded with this so far:

We are also aware of the issues some have experienced where they have been disconnected during a queue due to internet issues, and had to restart their queue once more. This is a high priority for our server team and we'll be deploying a fix as soon as possible.

Does this include disconnecting while in-game?

  15. Or alternatively you just shut the server to new players and let 'full' actually mean full.

Which means I won't be able to play with my friend who didn't preorder, because odds are, my server is full by the time he has access. Same issue with people who already are in guilds, with members who have not preordered. Doubt this would be a popular solution :p
