  1. ...and that is exactly why most premades are made (whether they want to admit it or not). There are a few (a very few) of premades that want competition, but most are made to roll pugs and that's it.

Really? It couldn't possibly be because they want to play with friends in an MMO? My guild has 1-2 "premades" out every night, but it's not so much teams (though we will have organized PvP teams for ranked), as the 4-8 people who are currently on who want to PvP. It's actually really annoying to me when PUGs on the other team quit because there's 4 ppl with the same guild tag going against them (though admittedly this doesn't happen very often) when we're qing with no healers and 2 fresh 50s.

  2. It is unfathomable that people that pvp regularly should have earned anything that would make them stronger specifically in pvp and not in pve.

The gear that I get from roflstomping npc's for 3hrs a night should either be the end all, or equal to what I get from competing against sentient/cognisent life forms and not pixelated algorhythms.

You should also get a share of the lottery if you're off by only one number.

*pssst* in most lotto systems you DO get a share of the money (not an equal share of the jackpot, which is what you might have meant) if you're off by only one number.

Other than that, I agree. Recruit gear is competitive (not at the same level as BM, obvs, but BM doesn't even take that long now), and anyone who PvE's enough to have "good" pve gear should have more than enough credits to afford it. Hell, it's even affordable for fresh 50s if you're willing to put off getting your 50 speeder for a day or two.

  3. The end game is all about WZ... if your server is basically dead... game is over.

Consider consolidating servers and/or have multi-server WZs.

Multi-server WZs coming with season 1 of Ranked PvP.

I don't think they'll really consolidate servers, but do something like multi-server dungeon finder, multi-server PvP (as stated above), and possibly a server group GTN. Unfortunately, "server merges" have such a negative connotation, I don't think they'll ever do actual merges, even though this is far and away the 2nd most played MMO currently available, and server merges would do wonders for the health of the game.

EDIT: A huge problem with real merges, possibly even bigger than the bad pr just from saying "server merge", is the naming issue. There is absolutely no way to do a merge without pissing off a good number of customers because their name had to be changed.

  4. This solution doesn't really help the problem, though I can appreciate that you are taking a stab at it.

It seems to me that the easiest, and best, solution is to simply make the expertise stat uniform across all levels of PvP gear. That is, give each piece of Recruit gear +100 expertise (or whatever, the numbers don't matter), and Battlemaster, WH, etc. gear will have the same amount of expertise. The other stats would still increase with the item level of the gear.

The real killer in PvP for someone jumping into it is that expertise is compounded with the other stat gains from higher level gear. I.e., I have X more health and do X more damage than a new player because I'm wearing Battlemaster gear and he is wearing Recruit gear, and my Primary stat and Endurance stats are higher. However, I'm also one-shotting him because I have a ton more expertise than he does, and I'm gaining +20% damage resistance and doing +20% extra damage over him, on top of the survivability/damage bonuses from my other stats.

As new levels of PvP gear are added, the issue will only get worse and worse. Ultimately, I think BioWare will need to change expertise if they want to have any hope of luring in new or returning players, because nobody wants to get crushed over and over due to crazy gear level disparity.

    This. This is the solution.

  5. Ok you clearly aren't following me. If you are you are not using what I consider valid arguments.

Seeing as all of the end game content is based out of either factions respective fleets, they should merge every server to increase population.

    A) you never made this argument before, and B) this still doesn't solve the problems

Because PvP and PvE exist in both servers, and the only difference is that PvP servers have an automatic flag when entering neutral territory. But thats irrelevant if you never leave the fleet. Oh you do your dailies? Thats fine because you wont see the opposing faction out there anyway.

Come up with a good argument please or be ignored. I would really like to understand this issue and typing vertically does not make your points any more valid.

    A good argument about what?

By "PvP servers" are you talking about only in warzones? That's the only possible way your argument makes any sense.

EDIT: It still doesn't matter, because what Astrica and I said upthread about design complexity is still true.

  6. I think he means too many:

    - Interrupts

    - Stuns

    - knockbacks

    - immobilisers

When u put it all together and u keep dying without being able to do anything multiple times u will understand what he means. And the resolve bar and how it work is useless.

Resolve works fine. Lrn2play. (Hint: Don't pop your cc break if you're not A: resolve capped, or B: in a 1v1)

  7. Unfortunately I'm headed out for a bit, but I will be coming back to further this discussion.... I don't feel as if I am being properly understood.

Feel free to subscribe and continue later if youd like =) Or continue the argument with eachother! I'd love to see someone understand me and argue in my stead for a few hours.

I think that you think that there are 2 separate categories of players that only ever very rarely overlap: "PvP'ers" who mostly play on PvP servers and wouldn't care if their PvE content was trivialized because of PvP changes, and "PvE'ers", who would NEVER play on a PvP server, and only PvP once in a blue moon out of boredom.

Unfortunately for your plan, the opposite is true.

  8. Valid.

Take a slightly different angle and change. Let's assume for argument sake that "Salvation" (Sage AoE heal) was always intended to have an initial heal of 1000 + an additional HoT but it was removed because PvE servers only wanted Sage healers and not Commando/Scoundrel. Let's also assume that this wasn't a game changing issue for Warzones.

Why can't that change then only take affect for PvE servers?

    Because

    People

    Also

    Do

    PvE

    On

    PvP

    Servers.

    JFC.

    OMG

    ***

    BBQ.

  9. How does my solution double the problem? As you said it is pretty well balanced already. Things don't need sweeping changes by minor tuning of this and minor tweaking of that..... I don't follow your case of how that would stop Flashpoints and Operations all together on a PvP server. Or how that tweaking for optimal PvE would alltogether destroy PvP on a PvE server.

If Bioware wanted to strive for perfection I see this as a decent idea. Again I would have to ask the question, what is the primary difference intended to be between PvP and PvE servers?

Once you change one system into two separate systems, it's almost certain they'll become more divergent as time goes on (otherwise, why did you break them into two systems). It would be absolutely insane to purposefully decide that you want to maintain two separate systems for one set of content.

RE: your question - Well, that's not the question you asked in your first post ("is it possible to have separate sets of abilities for PvP and PvE servers?"), but I'll go ahead and answer this one too. The only difference is that you are automatically flagged for PvP at all times. That's it.

  10. Of course I do, but there will always be collateral damage. I don't think that PvP'ers should be held back because of PvE reasons.... There is no reason why the difference between the two servers is only the "possibility" of open world PvP.

I quotation "possibility" because you know thats basically a dead system in swtor at the momment, right? :)

I'm just looking of possibilities/suggestions/answers. Not asking everyone on a PvP server to stop their PvE, but the game should be focused and designed around PvP.

The problem with your solution is that it doubles the problem. Now they would have 2 sets of abilities to keep balanced, otherwise people on PvE servers would never be able to WZ, and people on PvP servers would never be able to do FPs/Ops.

PS - The game already is balanced pretty well around PvP (and PvE) to a pretty good degree. No one class is ludicrously over/underpowered.

ETA - Mondo, It's really not that simple. If it was just that easy, every MMO would do it. Instead, the biggest one that DID (Guild Wars 1) is moving away from that system in Guild Wars 2.

  11. I'm having a bit of trouble arguing the PvP vs PvE balance questions. If you buff x and y and nerf z for PvP reasons then all of PvE needs to be readressed!! (this type of argument).

Is it pheasable to alter classes and mechanics for PvP servers alone? Or would changes necessarily show effect in the PvE and RP servers as well?

Is it possible? Sure. Would they do it? Not in a million years.

You do realize that people PvE on PvP servers, and PvP on PvE servers, right?

  12. Free epics, welfare purples, whatever you wanna call it, this is what's killing SWTOR.

Battlemaster: You spend a week just running around in circles, and you can have gear that eclipses Tionese, and Columi, and also rivals Rakata. This has completely ****ed progression for PvE players. This has excluded PvE player from the *********** PvE content in the game. Don't believe me? Go compare the gear yourself, try and get a hard mode flashpoint going. On my server, you've lucky to get a hm black talon, and even then it's just for **** and giggles. Why? Because Battlemaster is better, there's just no reason to do any of this ****. You wanna raid and get your Columi or Rakata? What the **** for? There's just no reason for anyone to do this, the welfare purples are much much easier to get, and more powerful.

Oh, and it gets better, you can trade in 30 PvP commendations for 10, and go for PvP gear that rivals campaign gear.

No, I'm NOT going to join warzones... I'M A *********** PVE *********** PLAYER. Players should NOT have to grind for the welfares in PvP just to gear up to do PvE! What the ****! The PvP gear shouldn't even be brough to *********** instances in the first place! BW isn't doing anything about it either, I sure as can't find anything they've said about it. You see patch notes changes like "eggs are now tradable," well **** me, I wasn't aware players were having trouble trading their eggs. You try sending them a tweet on twitter about it, I can tell you right now they will say **** all about it, because their heads are so far burried in the sand. If they did have something to say about it, it would be "It's fine" and they would believe thier own ********.

My friends, myself, and everyone else in the guild, we have all supported SWTOR, even before launch, we all wanted it to succeed, but what the ****... What are you spose to do when your PvE guild gets turned into a hangout guild, and your only two options in the game are sit on the fleet and do nothing or unsubscribe. What the **** are you spose to do?

If by "rivals" you mean "is strictly worse than", then sure, PvP gear 'rivals' equal tier PvE gear. (also, how the F much are you playing where you can get a full set of BM in a week?!)

  13. Are you stupid? You can do 16 man hard Denova with War Hero gear. It's as simple as that. You can do it in Battlemaster gear. The only difference between Battlemaster gear and Rakata gear is the armoring. The mods and the enhancements are the exact same with expertise added on top of it.

You'd almost certainly have a hard time with it if your full raid was in WH (nevermind that WH would take much longer for 16 ppl to get for PvE than Rakata, if they're good enough raiders to be doing HM Denova undergeared).

You say the only difference is the armoring like it doesn't matter. It's actually a pretty significant difference, similar to, say, the difference between Columi and Rakata.

  14. So expertise is worth less on the item stat budget even though it's the most overpowered stat in PvP? It does more in one stat then any of the other stats in PvE. It increases damage, mitigation and healing.

The way it should be. Going in to PvP without expertise should (with recruit gear available) basically make it impossible to win. All of a sudden, if you want to pvp, you *gasp* need pvp gear.

If you want to raid the previous tier in PvP gear, please feel free, but you're not going to be getting Campaign gear with a full raid in War Hero.

  15. Where did I say it was on par with Columi? It's better than Rakata PvE wise given that Rakata is itemized horribly with tons of Accuracy.

You HAVE seen the BM/WH itemization, right? It's also stacked with accuracy.

  16. That's the thing though, you can do 16 HM operations with War Hero gear, very easily if you know how to do the fights.

So you'd say it's on par with what, as far as PvE goes? Columi? As far as PvE stats go, it's basically Columi with extra endurance. Not as good for pure pve as Rakata even, so it's more than a full tier worse for PvE.

Why are you complaining again? (also, it's much harder/more time consuming to get War Hero gear than it is to get Columi)

  17. Next time you take the side speeder, notice how SIGNIFICANTLY longer you fly to the turret. The 3 second wait time was incorporated into the flight itself.

That, and, you know, it was in the patch notes

Travel time for speeder bikes for the side objectives has been increased. The time it takes to interact with speeder bikes is once again instantaneous.
  18. I am a supporter of this game. This is not a quit post.

I have two warhero 50s. A sawbones healer, and a focus guardian. Both are fully geared with best in slot items for pvp. I do not pve at all.

    Sawbones:

I can still put up massive healing numbers. 600k is no issue in long vs games. Had a 720k vs about an hour ago. What has changed is the ability to keep someone alive. Let me prefice this part with the fact that I'm a 5 time glad disc priest in wow. Well, I was, I no longer play in favor of this game. That said if two equally geared dps decide someone dies they die. You can delay it with CC and immunities but it is not preventable. I've been running with the same guys for 4 years, all have a glad title in wow, all have agreed I'm more valuable as a Scrapper. I switched, we won 12 in a row 7 of which were against other pvp guild 4 mans.

My heart in game is in healing, I'll switch back if they fix it, but for now, a geared dps is significantly more valuable than a healer with equal gear. One maurader can put me in a spot that has me making a choice, keep myself alive or die and try and keep someone else up until I do.

    Guardian:

Last night, after we realized what was going on, we ran Guardian Focus x 3, Vanguard x 3, Sent x 2. I've never seen a bigger joke in my mmo carrier. There were two vs that we purposfully did not cap after we blew the other team up in favor of making sure we medal capped. In both games the opposing team stayed in the first room and let us finish up. They ended up pushed all the way to their spawn for the 3 min they had on offense.

TLDR: This game is broken. Unless you are dps, in that case this is the best game ever.

That's interesting, though I had pretty much the same experience as you in Voidstar (cap them fast, they don't get past the first door) when I was in a 4 healer group vs. a no-healer group. I think the balance has shifted, and 1-2 healers just isn't sufficient anymore (you might as well go all dps at that point) but get 3-4 in there and it flips the tables back.

  19. i for one think i'm gonna have a long phone call tonight cause its not right to treat people who have been here longer than some 50s differently // i have literally seen people zerg through content and become 50 in 3 days after buying the game and they will get a free month and still havent even gone through their month that came with the game. this is completely unfair

How is it not fair? Are they charging you extra to pay for my free month? No? Oh, you just want something free because other people are getting something free? Ok, that's what I thought.

    <poe>

You want everyone to have the same thing? Sounds like you're a COMMUNIST to me.
