I am level 26, almost 27. My slicing skill is 400. Sending out 2 companions at a time while the 3rd is with me. I have BioAnalysis and BioChem as my other skills. What I have seen is this:
Slicing is perfect for the following scenarios:
Credits while leveling Credits for skill leveling Raiders who don't want to farm for hours a week for repair bills People who do not play very often
What Slicing will not do is:
Be the top end-game money maker - High end crafting will smoke the returns in time Stop gold farmers - if something has value, they will exploit it regardless if its slicing or bio or whatever. Imbalance the end-game SWTOR economy. Notice I said end-game, where biochems in bulk and oranges will sell for 20k a pop to satisfy the min-max crowd.
All in all, I have made about 200k, I've spent 65k on two mounts and training, 30k to train bio and another 30k in gear. I have about 80k on me and will get it back up there but I have no preconceived notion that slicing will top high end crafting. I have pretty much hit the ceiling and that's the rub, slicing has a ceiling while crafting can continually get higher since very few are high level enough to buy high end items, there is NO ONE raiding yet, etc. But when there are mostly level 50s and many raiders, things will change and level out in favor of crafting quickly.
NOTE: Some may abuse the system and have multiple chars slicing, etc. But seriously, you can have multiple chars do any skills and make money. it is all in HOW you play the game and Bioware wanted to make end-game accessible for the raiders without having them farm 10 hours on top of raiding.
I have played EQ (missed my Shadowknight), LOTRO (Captains ftw), Rift (Mage..) and WoW (7 lvl 85 toons). I remember WoW back in BC where you were farming as often as raiding for mats for your flasks and pots. Even after cauldrons and such, you still farm a lot in WoW, Rift and LOTRO. Slicing was designed to reduce that amount of farming, really that is all. At low levels it just SEEMS like a ton of credits, but 10 bucks says 100k credits is nothing in 6 months.
