  1. There are now many ways to use 'cash' to buy online stuff. When I need to buy online I just turn my cash into a prepaid credit card from a store or place like Moneymart. You pay a bit more then what you get but that's the same as paying interest anyways. Also go through my bank account using paypal and now some vendors will do debit just like if you were using a card. When I got my computer from NCIX.com I paid for it directly out of an account using 'bill payment' just like you would for a phone or hydro bill. A lot more companies are doing this sort of thing now.
  2. This is the reason I did unsubscribe. For me re-rolling would mean redoing four characters. That just isn't going to happen. I'll consider resubscribing if they offer free transfers at some point or enough time has past that redoing will feel 'newish' again. If not then that's it for me for this game. Being stuck on a deadish server stinks and is no fun. I pay to have fun. No fun=no pay. It's a pretty simple equation for me. Maybe I've been spoiled by a game that offers free ongoing transfers but to me it's good to have some control over such a situation.
  3. Skyrim probably isn't the best example to use. If you get it on PC it's possible to get years out of if with all the player mods that come out. I still go back to Oblivion occasionally and play brand new content and it's been over three years ( I think) since I got it. This sort of thing is supported by the company as well with the release of all the code that allows people to create to their hearts content.
  4. As far as I can see the codex does not actually list things to go after. Maybe I'm reading it wrong or missing a tab somewhere. If I'm not missing it then it's fairly useless in terms of looking for things to accomplish if you can't actully see what you'll get an achievement for. Not going to just run around randomly doing things with the hope that something will be achieved. lol
  5. Well that won't happen if people can't even get to do them at all. So I guess that's a win for you.
  6. Well forget about wow then. Rift had a developed achievement system at launch, serious things, fun things and absolutely ridiculous things. Probably the best is a whole bunch for instances so you have things to do after you've repeated them a dozen times. Ones for raids as well that give rewards when they are done. Also tons of stuff to collect etc etc. And sure people can as you say 'go back'. However there is nothing wrong with making suggestions that have been done elsewhere to make this game more interesting and with more things to do at endgame besides pvp and repeating the same stuff everyday without any difference at all.
  7. And you're kidding yourself if you think that just because a person does one form of socializing means that they don't or can't do another. When I play games I'm in mumble chatting and laughing with people (while we play) that I've known for months and some for over a year. They are hardly anonymous. This is a form of socializing. Even met a few outside of the game and had dinner and coffee. When I'm not playing a game I'm out talking and laughing (while we're doing whatever we're doing) that I've known for months and years. Sometimes I chat with a voice on a phone as well. Another form of socializing.
  8. They could offer server transfers and people could sort out population levels themselves.
  9. Very good point. The whole hardcore's or serious gamers or whatever word you what to use 'don't have a life' always amuses me. Yeah sure some fit the 'basement dweller' stereotype most stereotypes have at least a few people that fit into them. I play games a lot. I like playing games. I take them pretty seriously at times. Probably spend 40+ hours a week on some sort of game. I also am married with no relationship issues, I own a house, I have a family which I see regularly, I do volunteer work, I have no problem talking to people and am financially sound because I worked in my 'life' to be so. I couldn't be more happy. It just so happens that I choose computer games as something to put a lot of time into. I could of chosen painting, or model planes, or chess, or furniture making or classic cars or basket making or or or..... (hmm well actually I am learning how to weave baskets and taking it seriously enough to actually spend quite of bit of money planting willow for the mats.. so.... ) I work my life around things that I like to do so I can spend more time doing things I like rather then things I don't like. To me that is having a life and part of the point of this whole 'life' thing. Why wouldn't people make that a goal? Now my 'life' might not constitute what someone else would consider a 'life' or a great life but I'm happy with it even if for some it must be horrible because I spend a lot of it playing on my computer. lol
  10. 1) Implied in this comment is that hardcore's don't or won't play if it's not 'fun'. Don't think this really works because what's fun is subjective. Some people might grind or do things to progress that others don't find fun but they do. The fun is getting through the grind and meeting whatever ever goal, or piece of gear or boss kill in the end. 2) Too me this just describes the difference between an addict or obsessive and someone who has priorities straight. Who approaches whatever game with a mature attitude meaning they're not going to screw up other things in their lives because of a game. This could apply to anything that people take seriously and put time into. People that approach a game in a casual or a hardcore way can do this. I would be considered hardcore by many in another game I play, I min/max, read tables, raid up to 5 nights a week and will willingly spend three hours wiping on one boss. I consider it a hobby I have fun at. My guild is quite serious about progression and works hard at it. However if something is happening outside of the game with me or others then we don't play and no one gets upset if someone takes a raid night off to go to a party or whatever. We're not obsessed to the point of cutting everything else out. Last week, during the middle of a boss that we have been working on for a couple of weeks I found out a friend died. One of my jobs was key. Everyone was 'go, go we'll work around it." It wouldn't even have occured to anyone to stay. To me if staying after this happened was some sort of defining factor of not being 'hardcore' or 'serious' about it then that's messed up. You can be 'hardcore' about a game but not stupid and inmature in your approach to it as one of the things you do in your life.
  11. I'm one of those who has put mine on hold. I'll look at it again if and when they allow transfers and I see what happens to my server pop after the move to the oceanic servers since I can't follow my guild and friends. I have four characters and re-rolling and repeating almost 2 months of play just isn't going to happen. Hardly what I call fun. The whole thing just killed my will to play right now. I like the game just not enough to keep going right now knowing so many people I play with will be gone very soon. I never left my other game and big event is coming up plus a new raid so I won't be left without stuff to do in the meantime.
  12. Cancelled mine today. I'll likely be back if and when they allow server transfers so I'll be able to rejoin all the people that will be transferring off my current server to one of the new oceanic servers. Being 'left behind' so to speak has just killed my will to bother continuing leveling my current characters in their current location.
  13. I already responded that I will continue subbing because I do like the game. However I've changed my mind and as of this morning have unsubbed. Call it a (hopefully) temporary hiatus. I'll be back if and when they implement character transfers. My server is one of the temporary oceanic ones which I play on because it matches my playtimes. Since they are now offering transfers to oceanic players to official oceanic servers and not others I've found out a good many of my friends and people I group with as well as probably my guild is transfering. Really bummed about that and can't at this time stomach rerolling on whatever server they end up going too as well as having all my characters now stuck on a non oceanic server. I play for 'fun' and since a lot of that fun is disappearing I'll be taking a break. Hopefully they'll implement character transfers sooner rather then later. If not. Oh well I guess.
  14. If I had posted yesterday I would have said yes. Today my first reaction is no not really. Just found out I'm losing my guild and likely a whole swath of friends to transfering and BW is limiting who can switch too. It stinks and I think they should understand that other people in the world play on oceanic servers for a reason. And no I'm not going to reroll and start everything again. Yeah I suppose I'll live but it really doesn't make me go yeah yeah I get to play Star Wars now!! They should seriously just put in the ability for everyone to transfer. Paid ones for all I care. Would solve a whole lot of peoples issue in one fell swoop.
