  1. I enjoy reading mechanics before I engage in them. I'm also a huge fan of the "I'm new to this boss / FP, could someone please mention mechanics". If someone says that, I will endeavor to explain each boss as succinctly as possible, because since the guy has asked for advice, he's gonna be actively wanting to listen to it. I also believe if you have a decent amount of situational awareness, combined with intelligence, you can do ANY HM FP without knowing about mechanics beforehand. Big circle under your feet and the boss did it? Probably not good for you to be in. Clickable thing beside the boss? Probably needs to be clicked when the boss does some sort of "rawr I'm immune till you hit this button" type of deal. Adds in the fight? If they have less hp than the boss, and are going for something / the healer, probably meant to die. If they have more than the boss, or some immunity, or hit like a noodle, hit the boss and ignore them... It's simple logic combined with being semi-smart and aware that can get you through anything you don't really know yet in terms of mechanics. If you don't wanna read stuff up, simply pay attention to more than your bars and use your noodle while you fight and you'll do fine.
  2. I like the people that queue as tank when they're dps because it's "way faster". They seem to have little to no care for what it actually does to the healer lol.
  3. I enjoy tanking. I enjoy requiring awareness, and planning things out in the moment, as well as leading a group. What I dislike, and therefore what makes me not want to queue as a tank, are the people that place no respect in other group members. Things like pulling stuff I was never intending to pull, arrogance in group chat when I kindly give someone a pointer on how to do something better, and just all-around disregard for the job a tank actually does. In my opinion it's not the game that causes a tank shortage, it's the bad dps / healers that tanks just don't want to deal with that causes it. That and I would say a large amount of people want no responsibility / accountability in a group setting and would rather just relax and dps, which is perfectly fine - that's their prerogative.
  4. I generally heal. The only, ONLY time I will pull before a tank is if A) I am at full force, B) the tank is at full health, and C) I have said "go" at least five or six times. Then, and only then will I pull.
  5. Far as I know legacy unlocks are one time and permanent, not related to the character you used to get it. So yes, you can create a sith consular (they're pretty fun to play, get some humorous reactions from group members sometimes personally), even if you change to cathar.
  6. Grall - that clarifies stuff a lot. I'll remember that when I start tanking the 55 hm's. Also knowing that loot does actually drop, albeit a little less often, is good. Also back to OT, and same thing as Grall. I was on that same low level vanguard alt, tanking another fp, and said in group chat I was gonna LOS a pack that was really spread out. I grappled the first melee strong to give the dps SOMETHING to hit while everything ran around the corner to me... But, what does the Shadow do? He pops his speed boost, runs around the corner, hits his force wave on all the mobs I have zero threat on, and dies, then leaves instantly. I lol'd.
  7. Well all my information was and is severely backdated, which is why I'm a bit off. I may well come to the same realization as you once I start doing the 55 content. I'm still working on getting my 50s up, as I just came back. Hopefully it's not *that* bad, as HM 4mans are one of the things I really enjoy(ed), back a few months ago.
  8. While that's perfectly valid, I feel like it's a really pessimistic view of it. First off, you're a raider. HM FP's aren't tuned for raiders, as far as I know. They're a step before the SM ops (or at least were when I was last playing before 2.0), and as such, drop worse gear. So, while there's no real reason for you, many people won't have the gear to do beyond them, and so FP loot to them isn't that bad. Also, some of the worst players aren't being bad intentionally. I can't tell you how many times I've said all of two sentences to a bad player, and suddenly they play ten times better. No it's not gonna happen all the time, but when it does, it's nice to see, and often the players that take advice to heart (constructive advice, not "omg you suck stop queueing") will continue to use that advice, making the life of every tank / healer / dps they come across better because of it. I'd rather look at it like this: When I queue as a tank, I'm signing up to lead a potentially bad group through an FP. This way, when the group isn't bad, I'm pleasantly surprised, and, if it is bad, I was prepared for it and don't need to get all bent out of shape over someone being dumb. I'll simply suggest a way for them to improve, and if that's either completely ignored or I get a snarky comment back, I'll ignore and never have to deal with them again.
  9. Tanking normal Hammer Station on a vanguard alt for giggles... Get a group with a sentinel that likes to charge way before I do anything, and a commando that runs into whatever trash packs I haven't pulled yet and knocks them all back. Sensing win already, I just try to lead them by the nose but neither of em' will have it, and just keep pulling stuff way off to the side. Each time I simply walk ahead and wait for them to finish. At one point the healer goes "tank, you should be attacking what everyone else is attacking". Umm, no. That's not how this works. For one, attack what _I_ attack, or rather, the pack that I attack. We don't need to clear every bloody hallway to finish the place. So eventually it starts taking so long I hit the leave button, and about three seconds before it zones me out I get a popup about a vote kick against me. Lol. I really don't mind dealing with dps that need a few pointers, but you wonder why there's a tank shortage and we all have instant queues... It's cause we get to deal with crap like this every single time we queue. All you can really do is laugh it off, ignore the bads, and simply re queue. And then, there are the opposites. The group after that I got a sentinel that played like a champ. Gave me a second to aoe for threat, attacked weak -> strong, and any time ANYTHING so much as pot-shotted the healer, he'd switch to it with a vengeance. The cooler thing was when I asked how long he'd been playing, he told me about 2 weeks, and that he was free to play, and just "looked some stuff up". I love people like that. They get an instant add to friends and a whisper every time I queue.
  10. Championship. Love small groups and people who play their roles WELL. Nit-picky about small things like threat when I tank or heal. Love end-game when I can get to it and spend forever tweaking stats. I get end-game gear so I can go into heroics and blast through them, that is fun for me.
  11. Yup... Conflag bug on my inquisitor. Doesn't bother me really. I moved on to Belsavis and will wait with the storyline until I can get that quest done. Perhaps I can hit 50 before they fix it (hopefully tomorrow). Then I can blast through the remaining story Yeah bugs like this suck. No I don't think they're intentionally doing it. No it shouldn't have happened, no I won't be cancelling my sub because of simple things like this or my companion's inability to turn her weapon off. It's not that big a deal.
