  1. Great topic OP. TOR's planets aren't as instanced as some would have us believe. Get rid of the instanced world map & allow it to zoom out to the whole planet where zone entrances are marked instead of being the map's boundaries and it's no different than most other MMOs. Class & heroic instances are the only genuine perps and I think they are a great innovation. One can walk an entire planet and not be instanced between non-heroic PvE zones.

So what if a character has to take elevators. So what if a player has to search for paths around sheer cliffs. I think WoW's flying mounts so spolied some that it interferes with them playing any other game where characters can't fly. Try riding a ground mount from Dalaran to Ulduar's entrance and you'll see what I mean.

Until a player has completed the portal quest chain, the only way in or out of Twilight Highlands on the ground is through one single corridor in the Wetlands - where the mobs go from level 30 to level 80+ in the span of one arrow shot. WoW is the king of funneling players through linear regions. They just used flying mounts as a way around that. Maybe TOR will have them someday. But TOR not having them is only a game breaker for the spoiled.

In my opinion if the navigation distracts the player from the gameplay it's broken. I certainly don't want to 'fly'. I've never played WoW so I know nothing of flying mounts and the like. I just want an easy way to know where I am supposed to be going since exploration is pretty much not in the game at all and you are even punished for leaving the rail (exhaustion zones?).

  2. You have to stare at your minimap to travel? Just open your map, see what paths you have to travel, close your map and go! Enjoy the scenery.

Anyway, if that's how you have to do it the problem is you, not the game.

I do that too and it is intended to be that way although I find my eyes drifting to the minimap just to check it because some of the waypoins are rather elusive and the indicators for mission givers are not always easy to see from a distance also when you get like 10 of em going for an area its gets hard to remember what is what. Also as a crafter/gatherer i have to keep checking it to see if there are any regs around.

Maybe the problem is just me and I have been spoiled by better systems. My only other MMO exp includes UO, SWG, Eve, and this.. I have never played WoW.

  3. Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ Game Director James Ohlen highlights some of the new content coming up in Game Update 1.3 and beyond, including a fully-featured Group Finder, a Character Transfer System, several new Legacy Perks that allow you to customize your experience, and more!

I like this guy for the fact he never uses the word "toon".

  4. The fact that there is no way to see your waypoint to the next objective without looking at the minimap has people staring at it while moving instead of looking and the scenery. This makes leveling really boring after a while and every mission seems the same. I am willing to bet everyone complaining about being bored is doing this.

We need a way to see our waypoints without looking at that damn minimap. I hate to say it again but SWG had a really good method for this where you could see waypoint arrows and even distances in your main view near your character. Much easier too navigate with the advantage of not looking at a map the whole time.

I thought about just plopping the minimap over my character in the middle of the screen and pretending I am a G0-T0 bot.

  5. Transfers instead of mergers is fail.

Letting us pick the server we transfer to is fail but forcing us to merge with one picked by them is not? Unless you think they will cram us all on one server. I believe this mmo will close its doors before they attempt that.

I say let people transfer then merge the stragglers and continue to let us move if we feel like it so if someone quits for a while they will be able to get back to their friends despite what server they were moved to.

  6. This is my bug report and even as I started writing I thought what is the point.

I am a Scoundrel and when I use the Disappearing act skill the mobs that I am trying to hide from do not loose agg after they stop attacking. I can move far away from them well out sight and normal aggression area and as soon as I come out of stealth they just come and chase me down making the skill useless.

    I am Protocol Droid M5-Q1, Human-Cyborg Relations

Thank you for contacting us regarding your character Scoundrel, that when you use The Disappearing act skill, the mobs that you are trying to hide from do not loos egg after they stop talking. Your report has been forwarded to blagh biagh

The Droid (sic) seems to think I am at a dinner party and trying to steal eggs while the enemy has a chat.

Same thing happens to my assassin now. Those loose eggs will never shut up.

..this is a real problem despite misspellings

  7. I didn't read the whole thread, just the OP.

I just wanted to say that the reason I bought the game was because of the price drop. I had been wanting to play the game, but money can be tight and I wanted to wait until a few months after launch so that they could work out bugs and such.

1.2's update and the price drop were enough incentive to make me finally fork over the cash.

I'm still not sure how long I'll play. (For purely gameplay reasons, but I won't get into those.) But I am almost done with my included 30 days, and I will be subcribing for another month.

So, I'd say the price drop was a good thing.

This post proves the strategy is working. I say anything brining more people in is a good thing. I am sick of waiting for wz queues.

  8. I agree.. we need something in between what we have now and the freedom of SWG for a truly epic game.

And people saying we should not compare this to SWG are wrong. This is the 2nd Star Wars MMO it makes more sense to bring ideas from it than WoW. I also disagree that an open ended game is impossible SWG pretty much was maybe even too open ended.

  9. I heard about it on the Eve forums and eventually got around to signing up. I have been waiting for this since KOTOR2.

While I am disappointed in some areas (space!) I am having fun with what it is enough to keep me around to see what they do with it.

  10. I've had this happen a few times. If the companion quick-bar also vanished completely you need to go into the crew skills menu at the top of the screen and re-summon a companion.

I hate it when you just agroed an elite and realize your companion is MIA for no reason.

  11. Are there any puzzles in this game like KOTOR had? I am level 45 BH and have not seen anything yet. There are other things they can put in our way besides infinite mobs to kill on the way to a mission goal.
