It is the lack of critical thinking skills that prevents people from being able to see through marketing speak. Had you been in possession of these critical thinking skills, you would be able to see that in BioWare's mind, yesterday was release (their devs even said as much) and are using this early game access which they heavily marketed from the get go, to make sure they dont have a bad launch by staggering it.
In the age of digital downloads of games, there is no reason to pre-order a game. You need a big carrot to entice users to buy early, in this case it is the EGA. Since the EGA was the carrot they used, quite successfully I might add, then the implementation of that carrot is the critical point. Since they had hardly anyone in yesterday, with completely empty starter planets by 10pm last night, there is a very clear argument that can be made that they are being far too cautious with this.
I mean it is barely 10:30 am central and they are saying that they have just one more wave to go... really? that is all you are going to do today? are you guys just phoning this one in?
IMO it is definitely not the worst release I have seen, but it is the worst implementation of a new idea I have seen. Seriously, 4 waves done in as many hours and then nothing for an entire day? That more than anything is what is really getting people mad. It seems like a big lack of effort. What they should do is open the spigot up until they start to get server queues, then back it off, release more servers, then open it back up again and keep that going continuously until all of the pre-order folks are in. Queues are inevitable at release, because everyone puts in marathon sessions, and it takes a little bit for their play time to normalize. Nothing they do now will prevent server queues from happening. All they are doing right now is slowly making their playerbase angrier and angrier, which is never good for the long term outlook of a game. Pissed off players now are more likely to quit when a real problem arises.
