  1. What's done is done. Not sure Bioware will do anything more about it. I just want to relate what happened to my main as an example of how messed up this whole server transfer has been. I really hope I'm an exception, but what happened to me as a result of the transfers seems incredibly stupid and really pissed me off. I just hope somebody who caused this mess reads this so they understand how their actions affected us. I created my main, a commando, five days before launch... so 12/15/2011 I believe it was. It was my second character created, but it became my main because I liked playing a commando more than a scoundrel. In anticipation of getting to play, I had actually come up with a list of names for each character I intended to create and created them all the first day I could log in (16 characters across 2 servers) so I had a higher chance of getting the names I wanted. Each character name had some significance for me. However, I liked the commando so much I hit 50 in just seven days IIRC. I continued to play the character a lot. As a result, I became more attached to this character (and hence her name) than the others. Don't ask me how, but another character had the name of someone actually in the Star Wars EU and that name didn't need to change. In all, only 3 of my 16 original characters still have their names. When the first round of transfers came about, my server had to go to another server. When I transferred my main, I had to change the name. I did so and logged in and friended her original name to see what they were. They turned out to be a level 1. Who knows when they were played last if at all since their creation. That ticked me off. When the high-population mass transfer hit, I was surprised. I'm signed up to get all the emails from SWTOR/Bioware/EA. Yet not a single email about this. Just crap about some football game when I haven't played a sports game since One-on-One by EA on my Amiga nearly 20 years ago! I even checked my trash, etc in case it was caught by my junk filter. Nothing. Maybe there was something on the launcher at some point. I don't know. I didn't play for about two months between late May and early August even though I was subscribed the entire time. I did check my email and even my in-game mail every couple weeks during that hiatus. A massive mandatory change like this is email (at least in-game mail!) worthy. And I don't mean after-the-fact. To do less is incompetent and irresponsible. Tuesday comes. I discovered that if my main still had her original name, based upon my legacy level and time played, I'd have been able to keep it! Only because of the previous transfer, I didn't have that name anymore, a level 1 did! For all I know, after the second set of transfers, a level 2 has my main's original name now. I haven't been able to find out yet. Either way, the combination of transfers were extremely bad for me. Both sets should have been based upon time played on a per character basis with consideration for time since most recent account login. Not doing it that way the first time was being lazy and short-sighted. Yes, people's characters were transferring TO the destination server, but in actuality, it was a server merger. People on the destination server can claim "I was here first", but such statements are unsound since they don't own the place and have no right to it. What's worse, is by not doing it, you wound up screwing over your more loyal customers (the ones on their character the most). Admittedly, loyal customers are less likely to quit, but it doesn't mean they don't become dissatisfied or stay silent about their dissatisfaction. This post is an example. As it's my first post on a game company's forums and I've been playing internet games for nearly two decades (was MUDing in '93), you've apparently upset me more than any other gaming company and I've seen a LOT of stupid **** over the years. At the same time, there's other issues that arose from this high pop server business that contributed to my irritation, but that in no way makes my point less valid. It simply provided more incentive for me to speak up. People could argue with the time played/account login solution, but ultimately, you can't go completely wrong doing it that way. It is siding with the people who invested the most time on a particular character name while lowering the priority of people who have quit/no longer play and hence, care less if at all. And while I feel for people who may quit due to unemployment/employment for a time (I've been on both sides of that coin) , you can't really wrong them either. The game is a service. No pay, no benefits. The game is a time investment. No time played, no benefits. Both Sad. Both true. I doubt you'll have to do this all over again for SWTOR, but should you find yourself in another job, perhaps in another company, faced with the same decision, remember this solution. The fact that your ticket numbers increased by 15000 in less than 24 hours after the high pop server transfer hit is a pretty good indicator you could do better and I hope you will. Be well, Ruat
