  1. The WoW thing is BS. It's watered down MC Donalds fast food mmorpg experience that some of these kids have grown up with and have tried this game just to chat crap before they scamper back.

Any threads mentioning WoW should be banned, it's past the joke now.

And SWTOR isn't? Please McFly. This game is even easier then WoW....and I honestly didn't think that was at all possible. It is the pinnacle of casual, watered down, easy mindless MOOing.

  2. Sounds to me like you just need to be playing another MMO though. No point trying to force yourself to like something. If you don't love it, you don't love it.

    Bingo!

Why try and "force" yourself to like a certain MMO. Whether it be this or something else. I went into this game happy as a clam. I thought I was going to be here for the long haul. Then, as I played more and more, I came to see the serious shortfalls. No matter what I tried (re-rolling, playing the GTN, farming ect) I just was finding less and less reason to even bother logging in, and when I did login, it was out of a sense of guilt.

Go play something else, it's what I did. I still log in once in a while to say hi but other then that, the game is dead to me. After the 20th, I won't even be able to do that. Great thing for me is, the people I've been gaming with for the last 8+ years still all stay in touch via our forums or FB. That in the end is what an MMO is all about. Playing with friends.

  3. How many MMOs are going to fail before developers realize they can't release half-finished buggy products when there are polished competitors who charge the same per/month price?

And that is the crux of the matter right there. Hating your customers because you think they're stupid ignorant fools and you know best is not the way to go. Go Googlefu Derek Smart.

People also need to stop saying "It's new, give it time" and "Game X launched with X amount of bugs and issues". That was then, this is now. If companies feel that they can release a game with major bugs, and with common features missing, then they, nor their fans have any right to complain when said game chokes.

ANY NEW MMO NEEDS TO COMPETE WITH THE CURRENT CROP OF MMO'S ON THE MARKET TODAY. Not how they launched, but what they have today. That is who you are going to compete with.

You may not like it, but that's how a free market works.

  4. - lvl to 50 to fast (Players bored, I dont honestly understand why this keeps happening in MMORPGs but developers just refuse to understand that you cant give max level away like they been doing and expect players to sit around with no end game content. Either ship with a stupid amount of end game content for them to play or slow the leveling down so they not complaing about lack of end game content. Its such a obvious issue to me but we see developer after developer after developer make the same mistake over and over and over again)

I keep wondering about this also. Why? Why in the name of budda do they do this?

  5. Except, you know, for those that dont have any issues like me and my wife but hey, who can argue with 'common knowledge' right?

So what about people like me? I had great FPS before the last mini-patch. Now, it's like watching a slideshow in a lot of places. Add in the fact that my load screens went from like 30-60 seconds to well over 5 minutes now? I'm really hoping this "patch" can fix that issue.

As for the rest? Meh...Yeah, and big MEH.

  6. So, if we're nice and beg then you wont walk away? Say pretty plese and put a bow on it, perhaps?

    Missing my point. It is:

People will not be coming back until they offer a free week or 10 days.

Personally, I think a lot of these threads are bogus. I think the majority of them wouldn't be staying regardless of what, or how many bugs they fixed. On the other hand, I find the true diehard Bioware/Star Wars fanbots (Not you, but I could name about 30 of them) make me want to quit just on principle. They game is not fine. unicorns aren't farting rainbows and jellybeans. There are some serious freaking issues with this game that Bioware needs to step up to the plate and deal with. And saying "we are looking into that" is not dealing with it.

  7. Dont let the door hit you on the way out.

p.s. see you when you come back.

I don't care one way or the other about the OP, but I did want to point out something with this post.

No, people won't really be back. They may come back in 6-12 months when Bioware does what everyone else does and offers a free week or 10 days. What you fail to realize is that people really don't have anything invested in this game past the Star Wars factor. This isn't WoW where someone could have up to 7 years invested in their characters. I have a level 33ish Sage. I have no issue walking away from this game. I have no reason to come back to this game unless there are major changes (not the "we are looking into that: or "we think that's a great idea and will look into that"). I feel no attachment to my character at this point in the game.

So by you telling people to "Dont let the door hit you on the way out." isn't really going to help the game in the long run. Not sure if you see that or not. /shrug

  8. MMOs are much more resistant to piracy than single player games. That's why every developer is trying to make all their games into MMOs, even if they shouldn't be.

I'd agree, but a lot of publishers are going that route, even with single player games. You must have an active internet connection in order to play. Granted, there are a toon of work arounds, just like the weak "piracy" controls that they put on games (I'm looking at you EA with Spore).

IIRC it started with Half-Life 2, I only say that game because I remember the amount of flack that Valve took over that.

  9. Thousands of other players you say?

That's odd, since I play on one of the very few servers listed as FULL or VERY HIGH the game still manages to feel incredibly lifeless.

Probably because when there's more than 90 people on a planet they make a new instance, for no reason what so ever.

Giving Bioware the tools for an MMO was a cute idea on paper, but they've just gotten almost everything wrong.

Maybe it's because I'm republic, but having 36 people on Aldraan during prime time doesn't feel very "full" to me. And I do play on a Heavy/Full server.

  10. Holo Dancers need love too.

    And they like it rough.

I dunno. I never would have thought of doing that + I cant see its applications

One thing any company should know about online gamers by now, is they will find a way to break or screw with your systems (games). So you had better make damn well sure that you are testing stuff like a gamer, not like a corporate drone. The amount of bugs like that just tells me that their internal testers were asleep at the switch, OR that they relied on closed/open beta testers to test the game.

  11. You get threatened easily by someone with a different opinon than you.

Nope, not at all. But ole poppa here can't even admit there is issues, well, untill Bioware says there is and that they're going to fix them.

A truer fanbot there hasn't been.

  12. I lol'd .. literally. Thank you.

No, most of his points actually aren't legit.. they're just opinion.

Ya know, I'm betting if someone from Bioware came to your house and took a giant steaming dump in your mouth. You'd think it was chocolate and ask for more.

  13. Dang, this isn't promising news.

I wouldn't put much credit into what good ole Stevey is saying. He's a messenger boy, nothing else. He says what he's told to say, nothing more, nothing less.

If subs start dropping because there is no macroing in this game, the suits will tell him to say it's coming in the next patch (or whenever).

I suspect that we'll start to see subs shedding once people get tired of waiting for Bioware to deliver on anything they say they are going to.

  14. You are wrong, there was a fake e-mail doing the rounds which was shot down by BioWare who stated that nobody has had action taken against them for playing the GTN.

    More details here

I won't go as far as saying all of the emails were fake. Also, SR was just talking about the OP, not about anyone else. With the fiasco about going to Ulium at low levels...

    Now, I will admit that they have now changed the RoC from what it was regarding Alt's, GTN playing, item loading and all that. Guess someone woke up and realized what a punch to the nuts that would have been. No, if SR want's me to take his statement seriously;

For the record, 'playing' the Galactic Trade Network is part of everyday, normal gameplay and is expected to happen in Star Wars: The Old Republic. No-one has been banned for their actions on the GTN.

Then they need to open up the GTN to be a lot more user friendly then it is, ie: 50 actions at a time. Also, please note that he said "No-one has been banned for their actions on the GTN". He says noting about warnings, which many people have claimed to received from the ToS team.

As more time goes on in this game, it becomes more and more apparent that the departments within Bioware are not talking clearly to one another.

  15. Or...if you read a bit more into why Hero's Journey was never finished, was because they had so many companies interested in licensing the engine that they just didn't have the resources to dedicate into coding a new game.

Not all companies are like Microsoft, you have to dedicate your best staff to the right places, and having your coders working on a game that demonstrates your engine instead of maybe working with the people who want to buy your engine is foolish.

I'm just curious. what other games have licensed the Hero Engine?

  16. People don't get 'rich through legitimate means'.

Hello! I've hit gold cap in WoW during WoTLK and I'm very close to hitting the new cap in Cata. Did it very legitimately by playing the AH.

OP. Sadly, from what I'm seeing from Bioware, playing the GTN here will be a suspension/ban-able offence as they really don't want people to "have an unfair advantage", whatever that means.

  17. If video games mirrored real life expectations, nobody would play them.

The point of video games is that they're an escape from the dull every day life.

I don't want to come home from 8 hours of work dealing with people and 2 hours on the road dealing with people just to log into World of Occupycraft where we form 25 man raids to picket wallstreet and accomplish nothing.

Damn strait! I want to log in a beat to death some hipster with a purple double headed *****. I want to **** and pillage villages. I want a pony. :(

You might see this content get pulled, because frankly I am surprised that this sort of content warranted a "T" rating, it sure seems "M". As a parent myself, I certainly wouldn't want my 13 year old child to be consuming this sort of content...

As a parent, I wouldn't let my child play a game like this to begin with, especially unsupervised.

  18. What I would expect is that Games and developing/technology has moved on 7 years since that.

    It is a bigger market;

a title 6 years in development with the reported budget of 130million and they've copy and pasted quite an amount of the universe, boring missions that just go on and on and on find x kill y, rehashed animations countless times, with a rake of bugs, absoloutly atrocious beta testing policy, BASIC MMO features and a game with LESS features than MOST free MMOs out there that have had less dev time and a 3x smaller budget.

Benchmark it against any title in the genre and it's lacking.

Content does come, that doesn't bother me. I've enjoyed PvP so far and Warzones are fine and I've also enjoyed some Open World PvP just to put that into context.

The bolded part is what I've been saying since day one. The content isn't the problem in this game. There is content. Sadly we get drowned out by the "Go back to WoW you heathen bastards" by the fanbots.

The simple problems (for me atleast, I won't pretend to speak for others) come down to.

    * Single player game with a tacked on co-op mode. Except when I play a single player game, my choices actually can and do change the world. SWTOR really does fail in this. My choices don't matter at all, well unless I try and stay neutral, then I get nothing. Dark and Light sdie both get the same gear stat wise, it just kinda looks different.

    * A GTN that is so bad, it's beyond belief. We all know it's bad. Then add in Bioware's stance on playing the AH or even having a bank alt and it makes the game even that much more bad. A MMO with a controlled (Communist) economy is not a game that I will find fun. I have fun playing the GTN. To hit credit cap would be my goal in this MMO, just as it has been in every MMO I've ever played.

Here's the section from the Rules of Conduct that I have an issue with. http://www.swtor.com/legalnotices/roc

"You may not engage in any conduct or practice that results in an Account containing items, objects, currency, character attributes, rank, or status that are inappropriate for the level or rank of the character contained in the Account, i.e., "item loading,".

Kind of vague don't you think?

    * A UI that was at least scalable and moveable.

    * Macros? Even EQ1 had these at launch.

    * A working LFG channel/tool. The one that was in WoW before the current tool would suffice.

I can go on and on but I'll stop here. The bugs (Small ones, game breakers are unacceptable IMHO) can be expected. But as consumers, we really should expect more on this part. Funny little obscure bugs I can understand. Major bugs that stop the game for your customers and effect 1000's of them should never, every make it past beta.

  19. thanks

although are you sure that its what OP is talking about? I don't see "issues sliced in half", I see only promo text for new content...

I'm not even getting the thread that he linked, it goes right to the PTR forums.

As for patching, it's not patched until it's on the live servers. So no, Bioware hasn't really "addressed" anything yet. They are working towards (maybe) fixes, but I'm really not sure what ones as there isn't a comprehensive list of what they are working on.

I can say I'm working on the next, best car ever. It's going to have x y z features and cost x amount. That doesn't mean it's true. I can be sitting on the crapper "thinking" about it and that would constitute "working" on it in Bioware's eyes.
