  1. People play MMOs for progression - that much is true. Progression does not equal gear though.

And speaking about it, there are generaly two types of MMOs : themeparks and sandbox.

In themeparks the progression is linear and is the main goal of the game, the endgame is usually quite pathetic and consists of gear/ranks grind. SWTOR is such game.

Sanbox offers players freedom and other goals than gear progression - actively shaping the world, fighting real conflicts e.t.c In such game gear is mostly a means to achieve a goal, and not goal itself (expecially if combined with full equipment look on pvp death mechanic). Best examples would be UO, Darkfall and EVE.

SWTOR is obviously themepark game, but it doesnt mean all it should be is about getting better gear, it gets old fast and people require some more initiatives for endgame. Having gear progression on itself is not bad - and people dont complain about that, they complaint about huge benefits gear gives and inability to fairly compete against people having major gear advantage.

You know, for gear progression its unimportant weather better gear doubles your total HP or adds 0.001% to it. Better is better. People will always strive to get better gear even if it gives miniscule advantage.

In SWTOR however, gear is scaled VERY strong - and thats not because its actually indended like that in PvP, but because pvp gear has to compete with PvE gear - and there big scaling is required for the boss encounters. So reaching lvl50 and getting raid/pvp gear people suddenly jump from 12 to 18khp, huge critical/surge/power e.t.c. bonuses e.t.c

Only because its PvE mechanic, and pvp follows it. But even so - it by itself is not a huge problem. The problem is huge gap between awailable and best gear. Players just rolling lvl50 and not grinded valor are forced to be in meat grinder for long time.

What would fix it is smoothing the gear curve - by adding in between tiers of Gear, that are more easely attained or could be crafted/bought.

Ideal would be having separate pvp/pve gear for warzones - but thats impossible, since this game also have openworld PvP and everyone should be competitive in it regardless of gear type. The designers stated they intend as much as possible not separate pvp/pve items/stats - thus we face us with a even great problem: with future added flashpoints and pve gear tiers, the cap of stats/hp/bonuses will rise even higher, and PvP gear will have to follow.

So the only logical steps atm are making attaining PvP gear more easy, while also adding additional "non-top" gear tiers, to smooth the curve.

  2. One of the five chars i have is Pyrotech and i have to say its by far the most in your face - damage class and easy to kill enemies or top damage in warzones class.

The only reason i play sin atm over powertech (keeping it as backup) is that heat management is a ***** and i prefer sustained ability, over killing someone using all heat/cooldowns and than being useless. For a class with so much survivibility, the damage is way too much.

However seeing as they nerf hybrid sins, i expect Powertech to be forced to play in specific tree as well in the future, without cylinder changing in combat or talents from different trees working in wrong cylinder.

  3. the difference between powertech and mercenary are little to none when theyre both spec'd PYROTECH. it is a shared skill tree, not tied to advanced class.

i am spec'd pyro. tracer missile is for bads

How about 90% armor penetration on rail shot? At least know your **** if you gonna post and dont tell us about "rail shot being white damage which is easely penetrated!". And yeah, people talk about Powertech. Mercs have their own issues.

  4. You friend; are trollin'.

Also; probably bad if you think what you're saying isn't completely incorrect.

People have ~ 16k hp and I end games with 60+ kills you do the math. Also I out dps; dot spec sorc's, mercs, powertechs, and rage marauders. All dem AoE whores.

    Silly guy; you are silly.

Its amusing how many "always first in damage in warzone, always most medals/kills" people are there on this forums (me being one of them).

Its even more amusing how many of them are obviously pretendint to be such with no understanding of game mechanics and their own or other classes. (you being one of them)

My point is correct and stands - every class can get massive damage numbers inflated by healers, no class can beat 300k without aoe and enemies not deing in 2 hits. When it comes to damage inflation, aoe always have much bigger potential. With AoE/Dots/Enemy actually healing the team even 700k is not a problem.

I pvp extensively on 5 classes, met a lot of people excelling in every class and can say that if you are melee and get top damage there are multiple factors:

    1) enemy and you are healed

    2) aoe and ranged in your team suck hard

    3) you farm enemy pug with premade on their resspoint

You think assassin/maradeur can do more damage in WZ than sorc/powertech/even sniper of equal skill? You are deluded.

  5. Um, I get 400k as infiltration on my shadow whilst not aiming for damage. I have 0 AoEs (As I never aim for damage >_>, but rather actually helping my damned team.)

Read my post. The only way to get such inflated number is if your and enemy teams have good heals and everyone takes a while to kill. I`ve seen just about any class inflated damage numbers to insane in such situations.

400k damage for 15 minutes would be around 450 damage per second from the moment the match starts till it ends. Considering global cooldown is 1.5 second, and half the time you spend running from position to position such numbers come for prolonged single fights where enemy gets heal (otherwise they just dont live long enought to warrant such numbers). Theres not a single class that cant get that amount (Juggernauts included) if not specced full tank/healer in such conditions.

Still, good AoE would inflate such situations much more and ranged have more possibilities to consistent sustained DPS than melee.

A simple statement, if you have more damage in match than DPS sorc - he sucks. Assassin should never get more total damage than Sorc that knows his bussiness (that said, majority dont - but that applies to sins too)

  6. I get 450+ on my Annihilation Marauder?

    ^Exception?

You can get such numbers on just about any class if you DPS without pause and enemy and your team have good healing. Fighting single healer selfhealing 1on1 contributes more to your total "damage" than running and killing 3 normal enemies. :D So if you want to inflate numbers, just dont interupt their heals and keep hitting them heh.

It does not matter whats your DPS per sec - if most of the time you dont spend hitting a target, you will never get over 200-300k. Simple math.

And in such matches AOE still would do double the damage you do. If you top a WZ chart as single target melee - its not because you are so great, but because ranged/aoe classes in your and enemy team suck in comparison (or were busy actually doing objectives).

  7. People should get a simple fact by now:

If you get 200-300k on any class, its because your and enemy team gets healing and people take a while to kill.

If you get over 300k - its because you AoE crowd of people. No exceptions.

Deception sin is single target spec, so he cant usually get the numbers Madness sin or Darkness sin using Wither/Lacerate would in long match, due to being single target, positioning downtime e.t.c. If you are never focused and can dps the enemy team in the back without pause while they are getting healing - you get pretty big damage numbers, but its inflated coz of healing and AoE classes would do more in same situation.

  8. Multiboxing is not a problem. Not at all.

On other side - 3rd party and macro tools used to make it available usually is. Atm SWTOR does not allow 3rd party tools at all - be it something simple like Autohotkey or something more complex. Unless they officially add addons support - its not about to change.

So if you like multiboxing, you better be ready to explain how you manage to perform the actions you do.

However its really not so much of an issue, apart from maybe chinese farmers powerleveling chars. It does not really bring much benefits.

  9. Subtle but important difference.

I am sorry to bring you down to earth, but its "subtle but important difference" only for those who benefit/participate for exploit. Theres no gray area here. The only question is how sever the exploit effects the overall game play of server/ other players.

I heard this song million times in different games. Its either "but its not an exploit, its clever use of game mechanics!" or "its devs fault for not thinking about it, fixing it fast!", every single time.

If its obviously not intended, and can be used for greater personal benefit when the mechanic stands out of the line with the rest of game mechanics/progression - its exploit.

In case of Illum in particular, i could let the people who farmed before patch slide, it didnt had such major impact after all (despite most of them coming there in hype knowingly expecting they could exploit it heh). Current kill trading however is an obvious exploit, and caused mass bans in many other games. People doing that know they are exploiting and know the consequences that could follow.

  10. I also like the thrill of uninterupted combat. (pvp in vacuum)

So I had an idea - why not allow friendly GROUP dueling? So up to 4 people vs. up to 4 others. No reward, just fun. It would be a great way to test out new techniques and teamwork for warzones.

It would be better than nothing at all.

There is such thing as Tatooine Ourlaws Den. People that preach about how they love small scale balanced pvp with friends (totally not for rewards!) for some reason forget about it each time.

  11. I will make a analogy , when it comes to sports there is boxing 1 vs 1 then there's football 11 vs 11 these are just some of the examples the list could go on forever with the different sports that have their own set of rules etc etc , the point is they're different sports but sports nonetheless , the spirit of competition expressed in different ways.

In my opinion it's the same with pvp duels arena wz's world pvp it's all pvp.

Player versus player , is basically in my eyes any form interaction between players in which the opposing team or player can lose , but ofc we all have different definitions and views of things I'm not saying my view is better , just sharing how I see this from my perspective.

I will make a analogy, there is "sport" and there is "war". Arena is much PvP as Golf if art of warfare.

  12. Ilum wasn't an exploit, it was poor design that was used as announced by BW. BW was just dim and didn't know what that ment and then changed it. That is not something you should ban anyone for. Speed Hacking and Teleport Hacks on the other hand, are very much something that should be perma banned for. You can easily afford to lose individuals cheating like this, as they will cause 10X there number to leave the game if they don't act and remove them.

Exploiting is exploiting. Illum farming before patch was, and kill trading now still is. Its just a question what stance Bioware will take on it at last. A simple example - if you find somewhere on Tatooin a chest, that when opened gives you 1.000.000 credits, and instead of reporting it and ignoring loot it 5-10 times : this is exploit and you likely will be punished for it. A little common sense usually help people not cross over the forbidden line and not whine later that they got punished for "mistakes of developers".

Some games, like AoC for example - banned all the players involved in same offence. Some - ignored it and ended up with cheat/exploit ridden.

I hope Bioware finally takes no tolerance stance and takes action.

  13. it not just speed hacks

    ive noticed stat hackers/speed hackers

and the ones that reset your cooldowns after you just used them 3x in a row

but yes speed hackers seem to be common :/

people that have to do this and ruin games shouldnt even be allowed on the internet

Speedhack is fine and easy in every game (along with teleport). Its however just as easy detected and protocolled (if devs have any brains at all).

Stat/Cooldowns hack is another myth. Most data is stored/processed serverside, so even if you manage to fix your client, it still will not change anything in reality. You can change your client to show that your ability is off cooldown or you have 99999 Wisdom, but every action is timed checked and calculated on server. Yes sometimes major stat/abilities manipulation happens, but thats usually not "hacking" as modifying a game, but "exploiting" aka using existing loopholes in the game, likes say - buff stacking.

  14. Did not encountered any hackers really. Usually most claims about "hackers" are highly exaggerated (except for speed hacking, thats pretty easy to do in every game but is also usually detectable)

There are however many bots atm. If initially it were just people stealthed in the corner and moving once a few seconds so that they wouldn't be booted out - now its often bots running in same or few preloaded path patterns and just spamming attacks. They often get stuck in the way somewhere, and are easely recognizable by the fact that when you attack them they dont react on you specifically (since most bots atm are not injectors, but simply perform basic keyboard/mouse functions).

Those things should be easely detectable though. It surprises myself enormously that Bioware still did not take any action of even said official word on that.

  15. I am in PvP guild, and majority of people in my guild would only PvP all the time - be it Illum or Warzones.

Leveling, quests, everything else - does not matter at all. I and many people i know leveled some chars purely through playing warzones, some still did not even finish class quest at 50.

Its question of personal play style preferences. For me and many like me PvP is the only thing really keeping in in MMOs. Thus valor grind is not really a "grind" since i am doing what i would be doing even at max valor rank anyway.

I understand how people for whole PvP is just a small distraction, like doing space and heroics daily, valor grind can look like a lot - but than again, it shoudnt be fast for all, same way you dont get all the raiding epics if you dont actually spend time to raid.

You DONT HAVE TO max the valor and get Battlemaster if you PvP casually and its not your main focus. The real problem lies in gear playing big role at lvl 50, but thatn again - if you play casually and slowly get valor and gear (though tbh, getting 60 valor is not hard or long at all. The problem comes later with gear RNG), get gear from Raiding and heroics e.t.c You are still competitive.

The system is designed the way that player in full Battlemaster gear is about as capable as player in full raiding gear. Casual player that does neither is in disadvantage of course, but not as huge as people paint.

If you dont want to grind valor - the easy answer: dont. You will be better off spending time getting PvE gear if you dont enjoy playing warzones over and over of fighting at illum for hours/

  16. HUTBALL:

encourage your entire team to chase the enemies with the lowest health instead focusing on the enemy 5 feet from you with the ball.

Actually, thats arguable. Enemy with 1% HP does as much damage and CC as enemy with 100%. If you see an enemy on low hp in vicinity of main action - use a chance to finish him off if that doesnt move you too far from the focus.

Worst mistake people often do is alltogether focusing on ball carrier, ignoring other people in enemy team alltogether.

  17. They already did. 2 out of 3 most played classes have cleanse button. Somewhere under ability list anyway as each and every one of them is plain stupid to use it.

    Less QQ more L2P.

Its nothing in comparison with the fact that 99% of people who play Sorc still didnt realize they can cast Shield on others.

  18. - always stop in the middle of the match to type in OPS chat how much your team sucks and how you rage at them (while being the player that contributes least to the match).

    - When fighting sorc/sin/sniper at cover ALWAYS place yourself so that you would be between them and fire/acid pit.

    - You know that great AoE CC you got? Never use it to help team mates, it would be much more usefull to make you live 5 seconds longer instead of wasting it to KB 5 enemies from the ledge or stun the crowd running after ball carrier.

    - You are a stealth class? Never get out of stealth and wait for perfect opportunity to kill single player mile away from everyone else, not posing a threat to anyone, at enemy base. This way you contribute a lot to a team.

    - Playing a sorc? You know that Shield ability you have? Dont even imagine casting it on others like say... dieing team mate or ball carrier. Its huge waste of mana and time.

    - Playing aldearan where you capped one turret and enemy controls two? Make sure you stay with all your team mates and protect the only turret you control with all 8 people. This way you are sure to win.

-See people recasting theis class buff at spawn point or even in the middle of the match? They are idiots. Never do that. Why should the team benefit from +5 crit change, +10 internal ressistance, more hp e.t.c.?

    - Playing hutball? See the circled blinking dot moving on the minimap? It indicates where the biggest group of enemy is located. Awoid it at all cost, you probably will die if you go there.

    - Enemy Ball carrier in the pit below your base? Stand on the ledge the pit near your finish line and DPS him from the range so he can charge you.

  19. If capping a point is about controlling that point, that's more of an argument against DoTs interrupting caps than for it. A side can be entirely routed from a point, yet the team in control is not able to cap because someone tab targeted a DoT onto 4 people and is now effectively defending from the respawn area.

    Hmmmmm.

You misunderstand "controlling". Its not mend as "stunning all enemies with Agent flashbang", but dominating the spot - effectively being in control of it: purging of all enemies and quickly dealing with all incomings.

Thats why at Voidstar defenders dont instantly run out of the spawn point. Once you kill majority of enemy team and take right positions its pretty easy to control the spot by killing everyone that runs out of spawn area, knockbacking the people trying to get behind the corner while someone from your team tries to cap e.t.c.

But for that, you know... you actually have to play better than enemy team, and not hope for lucky chance that someone from your team stealth caps the door while you fight the enemies.

Same thing at Alderaan - speeder to the turret is annoying, but its a deathtrap for those who take them if the enemy expects you using it.

  20. the stun from stealth (i.e. tranquilizer) fills resolvebar entirely. Nice try though

So? Hitting you after you break the stun/it ends and you try to cap again still interupts your capping. And if you decide not to ignore me i just vanish and wait till you try to cap again.

The first thing on alderan i ALWAYS do is sprint to right turret to do exactly that. Usually buys 20-30 seconds if done right , meaning that if my team capped the left turret successfully and center is uncaptured - we will be at 600 while enemy at 580 HP, after they finally manage to get the right turret.

  21. I`ll remind people why expertise is here in the first place:

So that PvE raiders that dont pvp at all woudnt have huge advantage in their gear in Warzones over pvpers, that dont raid and focus entirely in PvP. So that progression entirely through pvp would be possible.

Technically speaking PvE gear is still better than BM gear. Expertise is here so that PvP gear was on par with PvE gear in pvp, but worse than PvE gear in PvE (thus you cant raid high tiers with your top notch PvP grear... you have to get pve gear).

The problem really lies not in PvP gear and expertise, but in PvE gear - it scales very high since high tier encounters REQUIRE major HP/stats boost. And it will become stronger and stronger with future tiers and encounters.

Thus PvP gear is forced to scale WITH PvE gear, and in the future i can see the benefits of the gear become even greater.

Since you cant really stop scaling of PvE gear - the only solution is making awaibility of PvP gear more easy, and making in between PvP gear tiers, so that the gap between lowest and highest tier woudnt be so huge (i.e. people could progress gradually).

Expertise is not going anywhere and here to stay. At least you should realize that much.

  22. Why, if they dont matter at all as you say, are you so vehemently arguing that nothing should be changed about them and stressing the importance of mechanics remaining exactly as they are?

In organized pvp, single playerd damages does not matter since its outhealed. Lets remove a damage than.

CC does not matter since its removed with CC break abilities.

You logic boggles me. Dots add another layer to the gameplay, and while atm playing a dot dependant built in pvp would be pretty stupid it doesn't remove a fact, that enemy healer would have to remove it and some classes have annoying basic dots (agent acid dart or sorcs affiction).

All those "little things" are here to separate good players and team from the bad. The more possibilities, the better.
