  1. My point is I'll take an hour+ queue over a dead server any day.
  2. Exactly. I rerolled on The Fatman, my friends rerolled on Fatman, we're waiting in hour-long queues...and we couldn't be happier. Now we can group!
  3. aren't you paying for a beta too by posting here?
  4. Please don't complain about 50 minute waits. They might open 100 more servers. Please....let it be.
  5. ok, thanks. Then what are those other combat settings used for in the chat settings?
  6. How do you display your combat log or flytext output to a chat channel? I tried checking the combat settings under both personal and system settings, and no combat output is displayed except for experience gains.
  7. I give it Feb 2013. That is the F2P date. With the subs falling off, they won't make their year-end Plan. There will be a discussion about how much revenue they could make with F2P cash shop, and "play your way" subscription options. I feel the same. The free month and baby tauntaun is a plea for subs to stick around. Its pathetic, and if they were doing so well, as Ohlen stated, they wouldn't need to do this. It's complete fail. There's enough mmos coming out in the coming months that this truly won't matter for much longer. EA's made their money. Now they have BF3 expansions to concentrate on.
  8. nice photo. Are you a writer, based on your link? Me with my triplet nephews
  9. I think you should consider rerolling now, since you really enjoy the game. In my opinion, 1.2 will make it worse. Sure, there may be a few thousand more people coming back to check it out. But BW is focused on their Legacy system. Legacy basically encourages the single player mindset. It is all about rerolling and playing up alts for perks. Think about it long-term and what it means. If you continue to reroll to gain legacy perks, you are not going to want to transfer later, or be part of a server merge. And as far as we know, none of the legacy perks are useable in WZs. So, if you want to hit a high-pop server, I would really find one now.
  10. I find it surprising that so many people in this thread think its just no big deal to reroll. But this is exactly why BW and other developers can get away with this sort of thing. We apparently have a high tolerance when it comes to services. It makes no sense. When a movie sucks, people complain so much about how they wasted 10 bucks and 2 hours of their day on it. But apparently spending dozens of hours leveling only to have to abandon your character and repeat the process is no big deal. I don't get it. But to each their own. I've complained to the various gaming portals- Massively, MMORPG, Darth Hater...hoping that someone would at least editorialize the issue, which may or may not capture the attention of BW. Because right now they seem more focused on a "which would you prefer ingame" poll than addressing one of the highest concerns on their forum. That speaks volumes. And people should really review those Guild Summit notes, really see what Ohlen is saying about server merges/transfers and Legacy. 1.2 may hinder any hope of transfers for the foreseeable future, as he clearly states that the Legacy system makes transfer considerations much more complex. I keep hearing other people say they will offer transfers a little bit after the APAC transfers are complete. I've read nothing about this anywhere from BW, and Ohlen's statements clearly contradict this. So, transferring to a high pop server might be very easy for some. But consider this scenario: What if those who don't care about rerolling roll on The Fatman, level a few toons and alts, get deep into the Legacy system, then The Fatman starts getting light. What then? Would they reroll again? From what I'm hearing, maybe they would. I've rerolled once now. I won't do it again. If The Fatman starts losing weight, I'm not feeding another fat server.
  11. Server Merges. Oops, not one of the selections. The post with the largest thread count on the forums yet again did not make the cut. Server merges lost to podracing.... Nuthin but love for us, nuthin but love.
  12. I don't want to level up the same class multiple times because I have to switch servers. I think that kind of repetition isn't worth it, especially when its unnecessary. And I don't like breathing for the same reason. j/k I'm also a hypocrite. Tonight I rerolled on The Fatman, just to see. Yeah, its nice. There are people. 110+ in Tython. I never saw that before. The other reason I did it is to save a slot, in case they close that one from new character creation. I can see that coming. I find it extremely disappointing that we are forced to do this. And if we're told that Legacy makes it too complex to allow transfers...what recourse is there. Would you guys honestly reroll a main plus 5 or 6 alts on a new server, to start your Legacy over? Do you really find that acceptable? More power to you if you do. You have far better patience than I ever will. I won't stand for what I consider to be extreme lack of customer service on BW's part, and will protest in my own way.
  13. Donkey Kong was a quarter. I also didn't play it again after I beat it. And just because I reread a book doesn't mean I purchased it twice. So I'm a little picky when it comes to entertainment. I don't repeat the same action over and over for the hell of it. Some do. There's a word for that.
  14. Of course its an extreme analogy. The point being players who complain about the low server pop and lack of server transfer are considered to be a vocal minority. It means don't say silent even when people think you're wrong and shout you down. Sometimes the majority can't hear their own thoughts over the roar of the crowd.
  15. Sure you can, its the same concept. Whether its a political, economic, or social issue, such as this, its the same. A person feels dissatisfied by a service they are receiving. They complain. The colonists had a far bigger problem than we had, but the core concept- being a vocal minority against a larger who could care less, is the same. Most people do nothing. This is why I complain. Because most just complain but do nothing about it. There are so many instances where if we changed our habits, the economics of our lives would change around us, for the better. I want to enjoy this game. I would like for them to improve it. I obviously don't get my way on everything. But this seems to me a serious enough issue that will affect the future of something I enjoy. Without population, most will play through once. 2-3 weeks at best. Allowing people the means to transfer to where their friends play, or to where the servers have high volume, is such a small request, and is implemented by so many others. This is not a unique request. This is what I do not understand about BW. Most of what's being requested is already implemented by other games, so why is it such a surprise when we raise the issue?
  16. Sure, let's ignore anyone with a criticism. That's how things get done. Long ago, in a small settlement of some 13 colonies, some people opposed a tax on certain goods by a far away kingdom trying to legitimize every single squeeze of money out of the colonists. Good thing they, as a small minority, were ignored. I do like your sig, though: "March 9, 2012 — The day I stopped waiting, took control of my gaming experience, and switched servers." Here's what I propose to improve your game experience. Don't reroll. Don't make an alt. Stop paying your monthly tax to the BW kingdom until things are improved. We as consumers are the only ones with the power of choice. If enough choose to boycott new systems until the old ones are up to spec, maybe something will get done. Or continue to pay your tax and sleep well. You're only legitimizing another developer to do the same.
  17. Here's what was stated by James Ohlen at the Guild Summit concerning server transfers: Q: server balance – 57% empire, 42% Republic – my server is a ghost town on the Republic side. A: what if we put in a system that encourage people to play the other side? We think that will help. We are hoping the legacy will help with that. No server transfers right now, maybe further down the line. Legacy is too complicated to allow server transfer. Our faction disparity is actually not too bad right now. Link: http://dulfy.net/2012/03/05/swtor-guild-summitlive-blogging/ So, interpret that however you like. The way I see it, there are no server transfer systems planned, Legacy adds complexity to even allow it, and as far as a transfer system being rolled out at a later date as stated in the post above....source? Because if there's a source, it contradicts what Ohlen states here. This is why BW needs to at least comment on the issue. To end confusion, contradiction, speculation. That's what you do for paying customers. That makes good business sense. As far as us being a loud minority, come talk to me when there's 250K subscribers. Maybe you're satisfied paying $15/month for single player mode, but many of us are not.
  18. That's the thing. Heavy servers get us all excited when we see 100+ in a zone. But what is that, compared to other games. That's not a heavily populated server at all. Maybe as defined by BW it is, but not by the player base. Again, the issue of fragmentation or sharding rears its ugly head. We've been complaining about this since launch. You may have 2500+ on a server, but you only have access to a fraction of that pop at any one time. Thus, the immersive feel is lost, as is trying to run FPs. Maybe BW didn't feel this was an issue because of their story-based engine. If what you are saying is true on ZB, then there's a lot of damage already. Guilds disperse and players leave, and they don't come back. If this is ok with them, if they can afford to bleed subs, then maybe that's why they stay silent.
  19. We're getting absolutely no guidance on this issue here. So, I'll say again, we should take our concerns to other online areas. I've made a request at Massively for an editorial about the issue. The more people that hear about the lack of server transfer/mergers, the callous lack of communication on BW's part regarding the issue, and the fact that they offer no guidance about the low server pops, the better. I urge anyone that has a concern to post about it in as many social media avenues as you can think of, whether its reddit.com, or mmorpg.com, or massively. Consider writing to the editors of these sites to help document the issues. When the press picks it up, BW may listen a little better than they obviously are here.
  20. Thanks for that letter. That's all a lot of us really need to see. Its in place for AUS, and I agree it should be. So, they have the means to offer it. They just won't, even though the problem gets bigger. It's true, maybe BW is too big to fail, but SWTOR isn't big enough yet. This is a critical period for them, whether their directors give a crap or not. Fail on the mmo front, and any future mmo they plan down the road will be met with skepticism. The best thing we can do is education. Educate people on other sites about the issues. Maybe some nice press will light a fire under their belts. It seems to work for Darth Hater a bit. But to me, the louder the voices get outside the company-run forums, the faster they may work. That's my theory, at least.
  21. That's absolutely true. Its all about perception. The perception is they are doing minimal to nothing about the issue since they won't respond, and its a main topic. The perception is also they want us to reroll alts, because of how they've been touting Legacy all over the place. I work full-time as well. Who has time to reroll on other servers, which may or may not hold their pops for long. Attention spans are decreasing. You need to attract people. The fact that server merges happened faster with other mmos should give them the direction they need. But they pay no mind to it. I hope they've made the money they expected from this game, because the way they are managing, they have a very short future. EA has plenty of other IPs, maybe that's why this isn't that great a concern to them. Sell the IP to Sony. At least then we know what we're getting.
  22. There is absolutely no information to base this on. If there are no merges and/or transfers starting this month, this mmo will snuff out sooner than later. This is completely and utterly ridiculous how they offer no information about merges, and no response to a huge forum thread about it. They're not the only mmo to be released in 2012. You'd think they would want to work to keep their customer base.
  23. Quest rewards also give you implants. I recall receiving an implant for my trooper somewhere around 22-23. So, depending on your class you may get a reward for one during your class quest in your 20s.
  24. I'm not sure what the fuss is all about. Are you guys saying the pop is higher during the wee hours of the morning than during primetime, so its integral you get some solid playtime in after midnight lest you miss an FP run? Or do the majority of you work second shift hours, so you can only play after midnight? Maybe that's why my server pop is low. Or your coven doesn't let you out until the moon is full. Either way, what difference does it make how long it takes them to perform maintenance in the middle of the night. Go to bed.
