  1. Then why are you not crusading to have health meters removed from the game? "Good" players would know through the in-game visuals who in their group/raid was taking damage and will eventually learn to guess just "how much" damage is being taken. So why not remove such an obvious "dummy gauge" and play the game as you believe it should be played? Every argument against threat meters can be made against health meters to the same effect: "I know my X ability generates enough threat for 2 of my DPS'ers Y abilities" can easily be translated into "I know my X heal generates enough health for 2 of the bosses Y abilities". And so on, and so on... Seriously, at least be consistent in your philosophy. If you want to disallow meters because they make the game "easy", then the health meters have to go, too. Heck, I don't even care one way or the other about threat meters, I just cannot stand the hypocrisy.
  2. Sorry, many MMO's have a companion system. Some even have/had an "affection" parameter. "On this scale", you're right. But that's not doing something "new", that's just doing a lot of something old. Not really, all it is is an account-wide benefit system. Kinda like guild exp/rep but for your account. Hardly original, honestly. This is the big one, though. "Unheard of"? Seriously, don't make me laugh. I made the choice for Cloud to "fall in love with" Aeris, and have to admit I was pretty shocked when she died. That was, what, 14 or 15 years ago? Choice influencing storyline is a basic for many SPRPG's, implementing it into an MMORPG is hardly groundbreaking.
  3. And so am I. Why do you continue to assail my position when I am one of the people happiest that they are doing this? I think it's great, and hopefully to be followed up with more. My issue is with the OP's post. Go back and reread my position. First, it's because the OP's tone set such lines. Second, did you even bother to notice that, in his post, the fanboy IS the troll? I have no problems with Fanboys, and I have no trouble with the complainers. I have a problem with ignorant trolls, which is exactly where this thread began.
  4. Actually, what they are doing DOES please me. It's a definite step in the right direction, and I'm very happy they are doing this. But we don't know just how functional it's going to be, or just how much customization it's going to have. Acting as if this is somehow proof of BW's awesomeness is premature. And, yes, in the absence of any insider knowledge about the functionality of the new feature, parading it around as an example of either success or failure is humorous. Never celebrate too early. The results can often be hysterical.
  5. People asked for customizability, and they are getting that. However, from the preview we've gotten, I'd liken it to asking for an umbrella and getting a newspaper to hold over your head. Or asking for a pizza and only being given one slice. Did you give me what I asked for? Technically. But it isn't nearly equivalent to what I was expecting, and you know it. Although it IS better than nothing. To be honest, it's actually humorous that the fanboys are claiming this as justification for their faith in BW.
  6. So, if someone can't drive a manual transmission, they are a bad driver and shouldn't be driving? What about those people that can drive both, but just don't WANT to drive a manual? Are they bad, too, even though they can do it but choose not to? Yeah, I'm glad people like you are not in positions of influence or I might have had to run you over with my horse-and-buggy.
  7. First, I never complained that they hadn't acknowledged the issue. Second, I never complained about a cut-and-paste response. Seriously, generalizing is always a bad thing when you don't know the position of the person you're arguing against. Third, these are not three fixes for the same issue, they are three fixes for three different issues. The reason for my "half-empty" mentality is that NONE of the situations he described applies to the situations in which I encounter ability delay. So? Are you honestly suggesting that because another company is deficient in one area, it's perfectly justifiable for my company to underperform? Come on, the "But he's doing it, too" response died in first grade. Again, lumping me in with those people shows just how little you thought about your position before you attacked me. And I have yet to criticize BW. As I said, I think it's great that they are finally on this. If there was any criticism on my part, it was criticizing myself for having such a negative outlook on the situation. I know there's a lot of people getting defensive, and lashing out at anybody they perceive to be "on the other side". I'd advise you to make certain, though, before you attack. It will make you look less foolish. See what I mean?
  8. "We're fixing something" does not equal "It's fixed". If, by some chance, the "fix" they implement does nothing to alleviate the underlying problem, we'll be no better off than we were before. The moral? Please don't attempt to claim even a "moral victory" over the QQ'ers since the race is still being run. Until I see the fix implemented, and until it clears up the issues, they have done NOTHING. Don't get me wrong, I think it's great that they're currently working on this, but until there's something tangible, I'm gonna go with the old saying that "Talk is cheap". I've never believed in simply treating things symptomatically. All that does is encourage "band-aid"-style fixes, which is how that blog post reads to me. I would much rather encourage a deeper process: Don't treat the symptoms, treat the disease. There is a serious disconnect between character input and character action. This needs to be solved for ALL facets of gameplay. Something that is most noticeable in "frantic PvP action" may still be there in normal mob action, just unnoticeable. Fixing only the "noticeable" problem is disingenuous, as it leaves the underlying problem still in the game. I sincerely hope the fixes being worked on DO as they are supposed to and fix the problem. But until that "fix" is rolled out, nothing has changed, and neither side benefits.
  9. From the recently closed thread: Wrong, it depends on the nature of the "reaction". If the reaction is anything other than direct character input, it is not automation of my character. In other words, the addon may tell me to move out of something, but it can't move me out. I didn't say it wouldn't make it "easier", I'm saying that botting will be there REGARDLESS. Did you even read what I wrote? No, they cannot. See quote from book below. Then you should already know the reason for my facepalm. From "Programming for World of Warcraft": "As a result the following actions are unavailable to addons: - Automatic character movement - Automatic target selection - Automatic selection and use of spells or items - Real-time communication with external programs" So, yes, while what you say is TECHNICALLY possible, the provided framework will not allow such function. And since the addon doesn't actually run until it is already inside the framework, your compiled .exe would do absolutely NOTHING. This also refutes your idea that addons can automate. You are wrong.
  10. Actually, as an amateur addon writer, yes, I have a fairly good idea. Although for SWTOR, I couldn't say, as they have not yet released a framework for their addons. Equating an addon to a botting program, or implying that addons somehow allow botters to do what they do is utterly ridiculous. Botting programs do not need addons to work, nor will addons make botting more prevalent. To insinuate that they will shows a complete lack of understanding of the difference between botting programs and addons. And unfortunately, this lack of understanding seems to be fairly rampant in the anti-addon community. EDIT: If you were trying to imply that the ability to read/write to the hard disk is somehow capable of writing an .exe file to it, I'm just going to /facepalm and leave it at that.
  11. And again, the anti-addon people show just how little they know about the subject.
  12. Unless your friends were ignorant enough to accidentally download and run an .exe file along with the addon, which would be THEIR fault, they did not get hacked by downloading an addon. Sorry, but they are the ones that did something wrong. A real addon has no files in it capable of "hacking" you. People have been saying they got "hacked by addons" forever, and it's been refuted every single time.
  13. No matter how many times you click, until your time runs out, you are still counted as a subscriber.
  14. So, you fail to see that even in PvE settings, your performance can be compared to others performing the same role? Again, what does PvP have to do with it?
