  1. Many players are able to participate in Ilum with no lag and some with minimum lag

.. but the majority of players find that no matter what they try ORvR in Ilum brings the game to a grinding halt.

Let's hope they sort it out for those with major FPS issues before GW2 arrives.

  2. XFire is already reporting a 50%+ drop in players of SWTOR according to its player tracking.

That's impossible! Astral Projection's post was enourmous and he said that this game's growing, so that must be a fact.

  3. lol dont think i have come across any pvp guilds on the 2 servers i have played on that EVER planned on doing mass pvp on ilum, more for WZ and Ranked ones comming up lol, but um thanks for that misinformation!

    Expert.

  4. This latest move all but proves my theory. BioWare know that their PvP planet is not entertaining and in many casses, it's frustrating to the point of rage quiting the whole game.

During the first few patches we can observe BioWare's attempts to make the most of it, with instancing and tweeking the cannons.

Then GW2 released their press beta. This got alot of people realy excited about the game and it's ORvR features. BioWare realised that to compete with GW2 and retain some of the 1 million people that have signed up for beta alone, they would have to do something simmilar in scope and complexity.

BioWare would have then done some planning and came up with a ball park figure to take to EA. EA, having just lost $3 on their shareprice and still wheezing from having to cough up $300,000,000 for SWTOR in the first place, most likely balked at the idea of another significant investment in cash and man power.

BioWare as a result are now moving to push people away from their failed attempt at ORvR and will concentrate on their strengths, PvE and Scenarios. If they can raise enough money after paying off the investers they may attempt to take on GW2 in terms of RvR. This won't happen any time soon though and I think the most prudent move for serious PvPers is to take some time out and see how GW2 performs in the beta's.

  5. I really think that bioware should:

A)Remove goddam taunts and guard from pvp.

B)Remove medals for guard and taunt.

C)Give all classes guard and taunt(derp)

    A. Remove tank classes and force them to reroll yet more pre-madonna DPSers?

    B. No big deal these silly medals are only worth 5 valour each despite the QQ over them.

    C. Give all classes heals, guards, taunts and faceroll deeps (Isn't GW2 doing this?)

  6. There's guys in my guild who have spent a fortune getting I7s and dual high end cards running in tandem and they get 5-10FPS in illum and 20FPS in fleet.

I've seen threads in General Discussion with IT geeks talking about making 6 gig ram drives to run certain parts of this game in an attempt to get ORvR playable.

I've also seen what amounts to false advertising on the box stating the recomended hardware specs are far bellow what's needed to get just 10 FPS.

I came from Warhammer where battles twice and three times the size of a max instance in Ilum are a breeze for mid range PC hardware.

The lag in this game? I've never seen anything like it.

  7. FYI there's a solid reason.

Hardcore pvpers are a tiny minority of the MMO playerbase.

MMO developers want to make money, not make the hardcore pvp niche happy.

A 1 million strong, tiny niche that has requested beta access to PvP game GW2.

A tiny niche that was able to knock $3 from EAs share price after only two months when many of them unsubbed.

FYI your reason is as solid as a hot air balloon.

  8. Yes true.. well you beat the game you beat the game....

Rediculous huh. An MMO you can complete is bad enough but one you can complete in two to three months? Madness.

my point is why go to ilum in the first place, why not set up an opps and do something diferent for a change.. people in the in mmos used to be inventive. Now are just mindless player drones. that was my point to begin with.

The first reason for going there was to have Guild Warband vs Zerg fights like we used to enjoy in Warhammer Online. It quickly became apparent that we couldn't have them with most of the guild trying to play at between 1 and 10FPS. It's hard enough turning the camera without vomiting, let alone keeping tight, staying in guard range, bombing on the leader and applying CC where and when it matters most.

Seeing as we aren't mindless drones, we went to Outlaws den but found nobody there. (I often go back to farm the Merc comms and the most I've seen is two players. Two players vs our Guild warband? Now that is mindless)

Open pvp is dead because the comunity deemed so. And true the open pvp system it is not working. But if ppl look for it like the old way.

the gw2 might have a better system by looking for it, but if players dont go for it and prefer pve, it would be dead all the same...

Im not saying that open world pvp in swtor is good. it is not, there isnt incentives and good and easy system for players to get into in the first place. but it is nothing that from a litle efort coulndt get fixed. That thread was a just example.

what stoping you from going pvping for fun somewhere else taht is not ilum?

The best we could come up with was arranging for 8v8 fights with other guilds. That's nice for 8 out of the 50 guild members but it's not ORvR. That's why we came here and as this was not supported by BioWare that's why we left. There are still one of two online each day trying to get their last pieces of BM but after the dailys are done can we get WB vs WB or WB vs Zerg fights like we used to in older, less funded games? No I'm afraid we can't.

  9. 1.2 will add a quiters debuff simmilar to WAR.

This means that we can expect simmilar WZ experiences to WAR. Instead of quiting, players will find a place to stand just on the edge of the spawn area where they won't be kicked from the scenario and stand there for 15 mins.

    Guild Vent:

Guildy 1. Screw those easy moders. Make them wait for 15 mins, we're helping our realm by trapping them in here so they can't farm with thier premade.

Guildy 2. Starting my anti-AFK macro and alt tabbing to check out the net. Give me a shout when we're out of this.

    Wait and see.

These unbalanced WZs should be balanced by buffs and monster play for the teams that are woefully ill-equiped to face premades or teams that out gear them significantly. People need incentives to work. Getting farmed doing dailys feels like work.

  10. Haha! Just wait till you hit rank 60 and have all the BM you can get for merc and scenario comms. Then you'll have nothing to do after your dailys. This -fact- wiped out the once 50 strong PvP guild I'm in.

If Ilum wasn't crippled by lag we could of at least PvPed for fun.

  11. They've had more than half a decade to get where we are today. They have two months-ish untill GW2 comes out. Those are the relavent facts.

Now let's pretend that we are all EA execs. We must pretend that the last time we played a "video game" was Space Invaders back at Harvard/Yale during the 80s. We must also pretend that we don't realy know what PvP actualy is.

With this in mind let's look at what happens when Gabe sends us an e-mail saying he needs lots of money and lots of staff to try and make our PvP more rewarding and entertaining than what GW2 has to offer. Gabe tells us that we will have to practicaly re-write the engine to facilitate ORvR as the current one simply can't do it. Gabe finishes by telling us that if we can't do all of those things and do them in 2 months, we'll lose all the PvPers to GW2.

So! What would your executive decission be?

Mine would be simple. **** it, we've allready invested everything we have on this title, let's just concentrate on PvEers and make some money back for the share holders because they are allready pissed off that their shares have lost at least $3 in value after two months. I don't want to get the sack.

  12. If you don't have a healer, playing a tank spec VGaurd is painfull. You do poor DPS and die like a fly because your shield and armour only work against certain abilitites, leaving you wide open to these attacks, with no trade off for the lack of defence.

In Warhammer, my Swordmaster (worst tank in the game) had about 60% chance to avoid hits with a shield. Here in Battlemaster, I have about 15%. I can't mitigate guard damage either meaning that if I do my job, I die like a fly. (unless you have a healer who cares)

It's very tempting to just spec DPS and not bother trying to be a tank unless you have your premade out.

  13. And you thought that destroying the enemys base was just pointless eyecandy?

The idea is that once you have the outnumbered side pinned down at the edge of their base, you can completely lag them out with a billion tie fighters dropping hologram bombs. This allows you to harpoon several defenders out of their base and butcher them without them being able to move or turn round (due to the lag)

    /sarcasm.

  14. I'm pretty sure OUR turrets would bug out too, if we had to use them. But as the Reps on your server, as well as those on mine, are too chicken to come out and play and rather stick to their base spawn point, we will never know for sure. :)

Maybe you really don't have the numbers to come out, dunno. The Reps on my server normally do, but don't come out anyway. And of course, why should they? It's quite convenient to have the spawn point 10 feet away instead of having to drive a minute to get back into action. Not getting any valor while being dead doesn't help either and leads to stale mate staring at the opposition.

Reroll then easy moder. Help balance the numbers and form an Ops group to push out from your base. Or flame me and carry on easy-moding. ;)
