  1. I have to agree with some of the above posters regarding upcoming game launches. Sometimes the defenders of SWTOR remind me of the defenders of Age of Conan. There the defenders managed to spam gaming sites to get AoC a game of the year when it was launched completely unfinished and nearly unplayable even on high end computers. The game didn't get any major overhaul until after subscriptions dropped to critical and the first expansion was released a year later. But here is the rub.... When people say you can't compare this game to STO, you are wrong in one respect. The same respect as comparing it to AoC. As subscriptions fall and money is spent on other games, most people can only afford one at a time. If you have the luxury of paying out for multiple MMO subs than good for you. Most can't or won't. And simply focusing on so called AAA titles is being blind to just how good free to play games are getting. And some of the AAA crossovers to free to play add even more to that. Does STO suck? well thats up to you to decide. I love the features of STO but don't like the game for personal preference. I'm just not trekkie/trekker whatever to get into it. SWTOR was launched incomplete. Its a fact. BW and EA and possibly even LA sat back and said screw it. Its Star Wars. It had lightsabers. They will buy it and all the fanatics that throw stones at GL will eat it up while complaining with their enormous mouths full. Cos it's Star Wars. Just like the suits behind STO did for Trek fans. When SWTOR hits it's quarterly it will have begun being overwelmed by much bigger titles. And Lucas won't free to play it. A smarter move would have been to keep SWG alive and forget all about Clone Wars Adventures, but they want that for the kiddies a la Toon Ville. What BW needs to do is stop being so silent and start actually showing what they are planning in real terms and giving real ETAs on content the game was supposed to launch with. Like the Legacy system. A short video showing virtually nothing is still nothing. Leaving players to guess at just what they are seeing is so poor it's not even funny. But you can't blame BW. You can blame EA and LA. Lucas Arts has never really released a decent Star Wars games and had to license them out. They still own the IP and all the say that goes into it. As well as full marketing rights to the IP. In reality its the entire gaming organization thats at fault. Whether its EA or Activision. They all see dollar signs for the first 3 to 6 months and move on. Its sad but true. They break up dev teams and re assign them or can them all together. EA is notorious for that. They cut funding to CSRs (Funcom I'm looking at you) andin SWTOR's case, do they really exist here at all? Bottom line is it's your money, folks. And in the end, no upcoming game will kill whats there. YOU will when you put your money somewhere else. Or... if you decide to save for that new 800 inch plasma TV and just play a free to play for a while. Just my two cents. ~ Izzy
  2. I would say the same goes for all of you. Considering SWG felt more sim than game. You actually felt like you lived in a real place, with real people making real stories for yourselves. Not racing to some end game to make yourselves feel all uber leet. Log into WoW and see all those mightier than thou's crowding Stormwind cos well... gee... you have nothing else to do while cued. SWG... you find people hanging around (not crowding) Bestine or Anchorhead or Corellia just to be with friends. SWG gave you a universe to live in and interact with. And to be your own story unscripted. Or scripted if you wanted to RP that way. It was all up to you. So please stop knocking it with silly half witted comments and leave the players who actually enjoyed being there alone. Who knows, you might actually learn something outside you one tracked X-Box thinking lol ~ Izzy
  3. I'm loving how I said this entire topic was answered on Star Wars: The Clone Wars Series in season 3. And yet the train keeps going on and on and on in the wrong direction lol And for those that choose to follow the books instead of what GL actually gives you on screen... read the novel for Episode 3. Mace Windu was teetering on the dark side even as a Jedi Councilor. His hatred of the Sith and deep passion for the Jedi Order... I mean, it's Samuel L Jackson ******! Need I say more about Mace Windu? LMAO Anyhoo... The Prophesy and the Chosen One have been explained already. Go check it out. Its a really wonderful 3 part arc. ~ Izzy
  4. The Prophesy spoken of is actually revealed in the Star Wars: The Clone Wars Series, Season 3, Episodes 15-17. And explanation can be found here: http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Father_(Mortis) In a nutshell Anakin was to replace Mortis and keep/restore balance in the Force. Hope that helped ~ Izzy
  5. Okay, this anti SWG stuff is getting really silly. SOE and LA failed the SWG community in several half witted attemps to compete with WoW and Guild Wars. As a vet of SWG I'm here to tell you. There were more people flooding over to Guild Wars than WoW. When Guild Wars got old they went to WoW. People seem to forget that Guild Wars was a HUGE competitor of both SWG and WoW back then. Then there was Light and Dark. Fist of the Empire, one of the largest cross server guilds in SWG went there. Then Darkfall. SWG had tons of bugs, lag, rubberbanding, server issues, ect. It was also a MASSIVE mmo. The only mmo that I know of as massive as SWG is Everquest 1 and to some degree 2. Most of the whining from the SWG community involved the same whining you see everywhere else. Professions and skills being nerfed, the Combat Upgrade, the NGE. Keep in mind that the Trials of Obi Wan expansion was released at the same time as the NGE and wasn't compatible. Meaning everyone that bought it demanded a major refund from SOE. SWG did have regular content updates with every major update. As well as vet rewards during every major update. The game wasn't perfect, but what it was, especially to the player base that stuck with it, unique. Everything mainstream now is a cookie cutter clone. Playing something like Fallen Earth hails back to what SWG, when it was at it's prime, felt like. People need to stop trashing the game and wake up. It was mismanagement from SOE and LA that hurt the game. By the time SWG closed down for good, it was no longer the NGE and a very good game. Saying you couldn't be a vet for 8 years because it died in 2005 is the silliest thing I have ever read. Opinionated much? I quit SWG in 2006 and popped back in every now and again to check out the state of the game. I consider myself to be among those 8 year vets. Considering my Bounty Hunter could use any weapon in the game, wear any armor in the game, have any ship my faction allowed in the game, own my own house, city, guild hall, cantina, medical center, transit station, or YOU, as I was able to hunt actual players... I dunno. Kind of makes SWTOR and WoW sound pretty small by comparison. Oh yeah. Perma-death. Considering in the era of SWG Jedi were all but extinct, it was a pain to get one and cost heavily to run around getting it killed. That made being one SPECIAL. So when the NGE robbed all those hard working players by handing them out at creation... yeah... subs fell drastically. It was a betrayal of the highest sort. I for one will always look back on SWG as my first and most favorite mmo of all time. Until someone grows the ..... to make something SWG calibre. Bugs and issues non withstanding lol. ~Izzy
  6. Its exactly as the poster above stated. Even as the The Clone Wars started, Th e Republic didn't even have a standing army or navy and just had the peace keeping Jedi to lean on. Other organizations such as the Trade Federation were a force to be reckoned with but mainly because of their connections to the Tech Guild. It can be said and seen that the advanced atmosphere of the Republic at the time of the Clone Wars was more advanced than that during the original trilogy. Again, the galaxy had began to decline under the Empire as the Empire had all the heavy tech. You can't have a successful empire if all of your rivals have equal or greater technology. So what we're seeing in TOR is simply that. The Republic during it's golden age. Soon to fall into millennia of decay. Those who say the Republic is destined to win SWTOR haven't really been paying attention to the bigger picture. The Republic is still standing by the Clone Wars, but the Sith isn't destroyed. And the cost of the Republic's continued existence is a hefty one.
  7. It adds to the immersion of the series and I personally love it. The reality of it is like what the other posters before me said. The sub titles are there for the Player. Not for the Character. It's up for interpretation as to whether or not the Character actually understand the speaker or has some sort of translation device going on in an ear piece or something. I know at least once, my BH had no idea what the speaker was saying and I had the option of saying so. Look at it this way. English is the dominant language on Earth, take it or leave it. Everyone is, for whatever twisted reason, expected to understand at least a little of it. But that doesn't stop Germans from being German or Spanish, Spanish. To some keeping their culture alive means more than anything. So there are those who may understand English but simply choose not to speak it. Then there is the fact that this is Star Wars and some cultures/individuals may not be able to actually speak any language but they're own. Take the Hutts for example, or Aqualish (sp), or most notably Ithorians. Ziro the Hutt speaking in a fake southern drawl is rather annoying and forced, I really don't know what to say about that one lol
  8. You know. I do have to answer this and agree. I'm avidly for the same sex flirt features in SWTOR. What confuses me and seems to be missed by most is that your flirt choices are all human based. Except for Vette, but then she's Twi'lek and there for fanboy cast for just that "slave girl" stereotype reason. Non human characters are not toggled for romance. Which makes no sense. Why wouldn't Gault try and flirt with a female BH? In the future I would hope that they include non human romance features as well. That choice seems more prejudiced and out of place for Star Wars than the same sex romance options. Star Wars has always seemed to me to be a universe kind of free of our Earthly taboos. Yes there is species descrimination in Star Wars, but we're talking about a vast universe of thousands of worlds. I would imagine that Twi'leks (as everyone else in the galaxy) find Hutts repulsive, and yet Twi'lek females are always seen as slaves to them. Yet in the game I see cross species relationships between NPCs all the time. Just wondering if it was an oversight or deliberate. Oh, and while we are talking about companions, can a dev please make it possible to say no to accepting some companions. If you are a BH and have Skadge, you will know what I mean. If you didn't want to put a blaster bolt through his head when he forces his way on your ship, you deserved him lol Just saying.
  9. I would have to agree. Start with episode ! of the series and watch the pilot movie. As for the original Clone Wars series... I wasn't really all that big of a fan, but it's not all that bad either If it's RP your looking to get into then I would REALLY suggest the CGI animated series that's on now and really avoid all the fan fic books and comics.
  10. Personally I love Ahsoka and the series. So my guess is this.. after thinking about the events of Ep3. I think Ahsoka's death and how it occurs could push Anakin closer to the darkside and will probably be orchestrated as such. He has as much affection for Ahsoka as he does Padme. So losing her and how that would happen could seriously effect him. But as stated, she did have a vision of herself in the future. A future where she was very much alive. And very much dark side. And he future self did tell her that if she continued to trust Anakin and stay as his Padawan, her turning would be the result. And judging by her age in the vision she was definitely alive after the Jedi Purge. So death might not be her outcome but turning to the dark side is. And in a way that could still effect Anankin in a way that sees him go down that road himself. Honestly I would rather not have her die or have it be some kind of silly retcon/reset. In my opinion the Clone Wars series makes up for the Godz awful prequels. Can't wait to see what Underworld will be like. She might be a live character in that. That would rock
  11. I agree that Vette is most definitely the strongest female companion in the game. And by putting down Jaesa's master 3 times, I don't mean he killed me three times. I mean the SOB wouldn't stay down and kept getting back up after each defeat. A real nice guy and poster\ child Jedi, huh? lol
  12. I'm honestly not sure what the OP's point in this is really. I'm a staunch advocate for sexuality, gender and LGBT and strongly support the need for Bioware to add the same sex options in SWTOR. More than anything to show that they are with the times and brave enough to meet the haters head on and show themselves bigger than that ideologically. That said, I do not agree on some of the other things listed in the OP's post. Unlike WoW or EQ2 or any other MMO, you do not have choices in how you play the quests. In most MMOs like WoW, YOU are an agent of genocide from level 1. YOU are an agent of mass destruction from level 1. There is absolutely nothing heroic about your character no matter what MMO you are on. A Paladin in WoW must still slaughter millions of humanoids and animals on a regular basis to get their level X uber elite gear. What are you going to say? That you are doing it for "good" and for "God(s)". Then the Inquisition wasn't all that evil then after all was it? Then the Crusades wasn't religious/ideological attempts at genocide either, huh? Vette starts out as a prisoner captured by the Empire. Her captor uses her shock collar on her to not only keep his prisoner in line but to interrogate her. Yes he does it will glee but in the end he has absolutely no apathy for his prisoner at all. You get the feeling that it's more because she is an expendable prisoner and one he rather despises. There's nothing sexual about that. Not even racist considering he never once tosses in that she's a Twi'lek and any personal thoughts he has on that. She's just there and he can. When you get Vette, he informs you on how dangerous she is and and suggests you make use of the collar as you see fit. And that right there is the point. AS YOU SEE FIT. Its YOUR choice to use it or not. You never have to, in fact you can remove it. You can play nice with her if you want and have her as a strong and loyal friend as well as companion. And did they mention just how much she doesn't like being abused? How you lose favor and gain hate with her? Companions aren't empty stupid vessels you can just abuse at your own sick leasure. They have programmed feelings and AI. And if you do refer back to the "your own sick leasure" part. My character is a bounty hunter. And Mako and I are as close as it gets. I don't know anythinhg about any "breakdowns". I've been as loyal a freind to her as she has been to me. Choices people. In Age of Conan my character probably helped cause the extinction of Mammoths and many other species mankind wiped out in real life. Same goes for ant other MMO I've played. Now say that finally add same sex relationships and a female can marry Vette. Or Mako. Then you have the otherside rolling female just to get their rocks off. Not sure how many actual male gamers are going to seduce Torian (my companion hubbie or Corso. Now I digress. My real point is this. I've seen just as much evil and just as much "bad" on the Repub side. If you have a Sith Warrior and you tried to get Jeasa without killing her family please tell of how her own Master goes darkside violently and tries to kill her and you. This was her master and mentor and he goes apesh*t brutal. I (as a BH) had to put him down 3 times helping to get Jaesa. So it's not all "the evil Empire". There is good and bad and heroes on both sides. Please try and be a little less biased and soapbox. ~ Izzy
  13. I'd kind of like to weigh in on this. First off, I avoided the Clone Wars series like a plague until I saw an ep a weekend ago and have been watching the passed seasons and loving it. The prequels pretty much killed any love i could possibly have had for Star Wars and outside of the Mandalorian lore, had none. That said, it was "alluded" to that Darth Maul was still alive. All you see is a face in a crystal ball. Mother never says in what condition he is in or even "if" it's Darth Maul. Let's say it is. Darth Maul did have potential to be a really good addition to the series of films and IMO died WAY too early. As did Jango Fett. Attack of the Clones should have been Episode 1 and both Maul and Jango should have been in it. And the story should have taken off from there. General Grevious is a rather silly character in and of himself. And Ventriss is nothing more than a Maul substitute. Also, Darth Maul isn't an Iridonian Zabrak, he's from a Dathomir of shoot of the Zabraks. Regular Zabraks don't have the facial tats/paint like Maul has. Iridonians have something more akin to line art and or scarification going on. All I'm saying is that too many people are going WAY out of their way to bash anything not written in a book. Personally I couldn't give a crap what was written in a book outside of Karen Traviss. But then GL did, at one point, not only give her access to Mando'a, but accepted her telling of Mandalorian lore. Comics, books, ect are not Star Wars unless Lucas says it is. And in reality, if you don't see it on screen in some form or fashion, it isn't Star Wars. Its fan fiction. The Clone Wars is Star Wars. The Old Republic MMO we're all playing is Star Wars. Bounty Hunter the PS2 game is Star Wars. And from what I understand so is Force Unleashed (though don't ask me how lol). George said it himself. Luke doesn't get married. Han and Leia don't have twins. Luke doesn't reorganize the Jedi Order, ect. I'm NOT a big fan of George Lucas at the moment so please don't think I'm just mindlessly defending him. I actually do enjoy The Clone Wars series now. It IS definitely better than Eps 1-3 LMAO We sorely need a better, friendlier, less hate filled community here. Godz I miss SWG LMAO ~ Izzy
  14. Because passion and love, to the Jedi point of view, leads to the dark side. Jedi aren't allowed to engage in romantic endeavors. It's mostly the "passion" point. They believe having passion outside of the Force its self corrupts. It's the whole jealousy and anger thing as well. I dunno. I'm a passionate person so if I was a Jedi I would probably fall into the grey catagory since I would rather love than be apathic *shrugs*
  15. I guess you can look at it this way. The Force Wielders were the original Force users in the galaxy. Their genetics have spread from species to species and generations for milleniums. They were probably the origin of the midi-chlorians. And through their legacy come new Force Sensitives. You can find the origin and explanation of the "Prophesy of the Chosen One" in episode 15, Season 3 of The Clone Wars (just watched it last night and I have to say WOW! lol) It kind of explains all of this stuff. Explains why Anakin is the Chosen One and why the prophesy failed. It was really well written and executed. Seems a lot of questions on here, even a lot of my own, are being answered in that show Godz I sound like I'm now selling the show lmao and in a way I guess I am lol I was so put off by the prequels that I'm really enjoying some closure lol
