  1. Ohhhhhhh man, I remember it, why aint there anything out there like that. It was like 2006 and games now (2012) can even come up with things like that. But the WoW devs said the new wow expansion MoP will be about World PvP when they were at blizzcon.

Yup, the WoW Devs emphasized on bringing World PvP back to its former Vanilla glory.

I sure hope this is true. We can only wait and see....

  2. Blizzard's WoW was a great persistant world. TOR is pretty, but there's no sense of belonging in this world. Every cave on any planet is a prefabricated design. There are taxis everywhere and the planets all have topographies that give the illusion of open world without the freedom of exploration. You zone from planet to planet and lose the sense of space inbetween (no pun intended).

In WoW, people would spend HOURS running to places they shouldn't go, swimming in the oceans to find little islands or things on the ocean floor. You could sneak into the enemy's capitals, hang out at the harbor, etc.

The fleets in TOR are identical between republic and imperial. The worlds are beautiful but lack that sense of awe. BW has style, but they failed to grasp the elements of a persistent world which make players nostalgic.

I'm not saying everyone loved WoW or any other MMO, but nothing has compared to my experiences with some of these worlds. People STILL talk about the barrens and stranglethorn vale. People STILL try to invade capital cities with no real effect other than bragging rights. I'll never go back to Hutta or Tython or anywhere else. There's no reason, it's just a big zone.

Well stated sir, as I completely agree. SWTOR is fun, but I'm afraid I might return for Mists.... >_>

  3. Remember South Shore and Tarren Mill?

    Remember Isle of Quel'Danas?

    Remember Booty Bay?

Some of the best times I've had... /nostalgia

R.I.P. early days of WoW *sniffles

I can just hope that the SWTOR devs can eventually develop World PvP that is half as fun as those moments....

  4. Rogues for the longest time, had a 10 second stunlock. (4sec cheapshot + 6sec kidney) that they could do every 20 seconds, untalented.

Our class has a 5.5 second stunlock (1.5knockdown+4sec kick), that we can do every 45 seconds, untalented.

Rogues had a stunlock nearly double our duration with half the cooldown duration.

Oh, and they also had sprint, constant 70% crip, wound poison to kill healers, and countless other tools that are lacking for this class.

If you want to count in vanish to add in another 1.5sec, you can do the same on the rogue as well.

  5. ImageShack fail, love the popups, love the slow loading, love how I have to click on the image again to see it at a viewable resolution.

    Never use ImageShack. It's horrid.

    Ah sorry about that :p

    Which site would you recommend?

  6. I really have no need to prove myself to you. I know i did it, and i have several guild members that can vouch for me.

Either way, it matters little because the point still stands. The issue is beeing looked at by Bioware and youre just beeing whinners. There is nothing else you can do to speed up the process.

Just because they claim to be "looking into the issue" does not mean that everything is solved and that we can put this thread to rest.

If you ever studied history, you would know very well of the types of "promises" I am addressing :p

  7. I think I've made it pretty clear the problem I have, and I've made it clear in several posts across several pages of this thread. I will continue to do so because I feel it adds needed balance.

If saying "I'm sorry, I can see what you're saying and I agree with the fundamental problem at hand but fear you are exaggerating it excessively at times, and I feel that's a bad thing," is not serving some kind of useful purpose (such as bringing some balance to the argument being made, perhaps?)... then I really don't know what else to say. I've also responded to a number of other posts in this thread in an attempt to clarify and balance certain statements.

I think my contribution far outweighs whatever it is you're trying to do right now.

You "think" your contributions outweighs mine, but in actuality, this is not the case as Xcore and others in this thread are much more appreciative of my comments and videos in addressing the nature of this problem, than that of your technical babblings.

  8. I'm not disagreeing with the problem you are trying to present, or - as someone who's played at a similar level to you *studied signature* - the heavy implications of the problem. It does need to be fixed, and it needs to be fixed sooner rather than later.

I don't think that formatting/wording/presentation matter so much. I do however think that, being as flagrant in the way you present the problem as you were, much more can be taken away from your OP than needs to be taken away, which risks ruining the context and meaning behind the post. As someone who clearly understands the English language to an "above average" degree, you must accept that the nuances can (and will) alter the perception of what you are saying. Simple wording can make a problem seem far bigger or far smaller than it actually is. I fear in this instance it is inflated.

And as an aside, I think your choice of countries was... unfortunate... considering current tensions ;) As a metaphor... I fear it doesn't really work too well ;P Enough of the current affairs however.

I understand your incessant need to utilizing your "above average" language skills in moderating Xcore's semantic analysis, but it really is derailing this thread when many more pertinent issues should be being discussed.

  9. Sadly, and regardless of his intent, it is still - in my opinion and based on my own observation - a degree of misrepresentation. I do not and will never accept that misrepresenting the facts on the ground is a valid way to inspire change "for the better".

I would rather the objective problem be put forward in a clear and concise way than have the details flagrantly and flamboyantly dramatised for the purposes of notice.

So no, I won't cut him a break but only because I fear the way he's going about the agenda at hand, one that I think every reasonably intelligent person in this thread agrees on.

I definitely understand what you are trying to address, but in all honestly, this is a video game, not some sort of devious political scheme as you make it out to be. What sort of "agenda" do you fear from Xcore's contributions which can only improve the quality of gameplay, or is this thread just another practice seminar to hone on your argumentative skills?

  10. The merits of what he's arguing are perfectly valid. I cannot argue with the sentiment. I would not; there is a problem, and it needs resolving.

He has, however, (and as I will keep pointing out) exaggerated and inflated the problem, whether due to the passion he feels or whether due to some other purpose he feels he has.

I suspect it's most likely due to the passion that he (as well as many of us) have towards the game and our wanting to see it a success.

I understand your need to act as a makeshift moderator in a pursuit of maintaining the integrity of this thread, but you guys are seriously nitpicking, and this isn't a court. Cut him a break.

  11. Yes, because when the issue is apparently this serious, why should anybody bother being logical? Lets just yell really loudly and mock anybody who doesn't agree with us and then we can hopefully win the day through sheer argumentative brutality.

Seriously, you should go work for the GOP with that attitude. I'm being respectful in my disagreement and you want to take me down for that?

You might as well have said "Save the civilized discussion for the real world, this is the internet, you're supposed to troll your way to victory".

To quote yourself: Some people...

I'm not going to spend my time writing an essay in addressing all of your points, whether they be valid or not.

But unlike what you claim, the OP and those supporting him are hardly "trolling their way to victory" in regards to this issue. Please don't downplay their contributions which in my opinion, may very well save the future of this game that you and others like you, enjoy.

  12. Hes nitpicking a little on truth-claims and such. No problem there he has a point, how do "I Know that this will break the game"? I suppose I could write a thesis and analysis of the failure of all the past games related to this issue at hand. This would have "some" convincing attributes but in the end, that is what this thread is anyways.

In any case, he is arguing strictly formatting and presentation, not the actual subject... which is fine. I am not the greatest at presenting my claims and arguments. I am far too passionate with the subject at hand to really "watch what I say" in this regard.

Many faults can be picked out from my presentation, I don't believe many faults can be found with the issue discussed though (Which is all that matters).

Yet another poster who would rather spend their time conjuring up elaborate posts aimed at nitpicking the linguistic fallacies of the OP, in a futile attempt to demonstrate their argumentative skills.

Save that for Logical Theory 101, not here. *rolls eyes

  13. You're getting off point. You're countering my reply by talking about subjective unproven 'facts' such as how "This will kill the game" and "many more will quit thank this thread leads to believe" etc. I'm not talking about that. I'm talking about the very basic notion of using the popularity of this thread as an affirmative argument through some measure of rough % of players extrapolated from % posting here.

You are going in little circles using unsubstantiated opinion to back up your statement which you pass off as fact, and you did it condescendingly I might add.

I'll break down what I'm saying:

    1. You say that you believe that this issue will lead to the death of the game if unfixed <-- Unsubstantiated opinion (can't see the future)

    2. You support your point or counter detractors of your point by saying that in fact this thread IS representative of the overall mood of the game population when I am saying that the nature of complaints means that a disproportionate % will be represented by those who are unhappy rather than happy. <-- Challenged as untrue by my point and others

    3. You counter 2. by saying that it doesn't really matter because 1. is true and will kill the game no matter how you choose to perceive the thread's representation of the overall population <-- Circular logic that is again opinion and impossible to substantiate

You cannot say in any definitive way that this will kill the game. Its YOURS and others' opinions that this is a game killing fact, if unfixed. For sure those who post here who say its terminal for them will likely quit, but that does not prove anything as nobody can see the future, nobody knows for sure.

Ultimately I'm only contesting your argument that this thread is an affirmative representation of the community's feelings when its just not possible to gather any empirical data from it. You can only be sure what those who are unhappy who post feel. You cannot prove any measure of overall wider % of unhappiness over it. Logic suggests that in fact you should underestimate conservatively the overall feeling based on this thread AT THIS MOMENT.

Its too early to measure accurately the feeling on this, you can't really gather any factual statistics until you get to a point when you can count active subs and cancellations AFTER the free 30 days as many who will quit will keep their cards active just to run out their already purchased time.

Ah, another poster who would rather spend their time conjuring up elaborate posts aimed at nitpicking the linguistic fallacies of the OP, in a futile attempt to demonstrate their argumentative skills.

Haven't you seen the videos as well as read up on the complaints?

Why would you NOT want to advocate a thread that is aimed to making this game better?

    Honestly some people I swear...

  14. thank you for adding and contributing this. Incidentally when i was watching this video, i was holding my nephew's new puppy! (christmas present). I raged so hard that i snapped it's neck and threw it across the room...

Suffice it to say, i am no longer welcoming in my cousin's home... The child is traumatized it appears.

Either way, thank you for the video -- added to op

    Haha :p

  15. Ive read what a very small few are calling an "ability-delay" or lack of responsiveness in combat. I've tried to recreate the issue and can't. Im not sure there is any ability-dalay whatsoever; however there may be a "learn-to-play" issue. This is not meant to be argumentive so please keep it civil. What I mean is that some are really used to just button smashing combat (WoW), or being able to queue abilities (LOTRO), and are missing one of the neatest features of SWTOR: The Combat.

In this game, to maximize your damage, you really need to focus on your character and watch their swing (Im speaking as a Marauder here). You CAN NOT start another swing until your last one finishes. This is not "ability-delay" this is actually having a game that is trying to move the genre away from button smashing and into something a little more logical. Watch your toon and time your swings -- works great and is much more fluid than a simple button smasher style combat. I love it!

I for one hope they change nothing about the combat system. The combat is the most fun I have had in an MMO and I have played the majority of them.

I also hope they realize only a very small, vocal minority, are complaining and leave it alone.

You're trying too hard man :p
