  1. I like these classes. Going to go Shadow/Assassin.

My decision between the two basically rests on the story experience. If I go Consulor, I'll probably go darkside. However, I've heard that going darkside with Consulor is pretty awful.

Just about the only thing that keeps me from just doing Inquisitor is the fact that I've not played Republic yet, and I want a breath of fresh air with locations and storytelling.

I need another point of view here. Help me out.

  2. While true, I think your opinion may be a bit radical :D

I'm leveling aa Knight and a Trooper. Knights feels more epic, Trooper is "like-da-movies" story (nice). Consul is good, I really liked it. But be warned: there is more plot, history and philosophy tha raw action.

I thought about doing a Knight. But, I guess I felt there are too many tanks already. But, then again, if the story and gameplay are fun, then maybe I should consider it.

Regardless, I just want a fun star-warsy story and character I can get behind. I like the double-bladed lightsaber, so that's why I was thinking shadow for example. Decisions decisions...

  3. I played a Sniper to 50 and Valor 57 then I made an Assassin.

I can't hit 400k dmg in a WZ. But I can have an insane amount of Guard, Taunts, Running, everything. I think it is the best PvP class there is, properly played. And I'm a pretty good PvE tank, too. I even get REP players in /say after WZs saying I am the only reason my team one. That makes everything worth it. Even if my damage is substantially less thenothers. Even now it's not that much lower. And we still get more medals, if we are doing it right.

    I love my Tankasin.

What spec? Can you post it?

  4. I'm assuming you mean Marksman VS Engineering. If that's so, then Marksman is heavy on cover and all about doing as much damage as possible in as much little time as possible. Your weakness is being so cover-dependent.

Engineering has more survival at the expense of damage, but has a lot of toys and tricks to annoy the heck out of enemies and affect groups with burst damage.

  5. Honestly, there isn't a spec that's bad for PvP, whether world or warzone. Each has it's feel and different styles. Just try em all and figure out your playstyle you prefer.

MM will be good if you like just sittin and dinging the baddies with as much damage over as little time as possible.

Engi is good for survival and annoying groups.

Leth is good if you want to be mobile and enjoy DoTs.

  6. These seem like a huge waste of energy. I guess it's safe to take them off my bars to free up space for more abilities? Leveling up as marksmanship btw.

As Marksman spec, yeah for removing Corrosive Dart at least. The only good use you'll get from that is taggin someone trying to cap a point in a Warzone. Annoys the heck out of em.

  7. Don't take explosive engineering, from what I've been told it doesn't make corrosive grenade do more damage. You won't use explosive probe since you don't go into cover, and at that point its really only helping your frag grenades

Yeah. And I don't even use frag grenades too often with the build.

Guess that settles it. 3 points into Marksman for the + to tech and ranged accuracy. Unless someone has a BETTER idea for those 3 points

thats the spec i use its good for pve, and pvp no reason to use snipe as lethality, and no real reason to use overload shot just auto attack, it will let you regen energy and does a decent amount of damage.

My build is pretty much that, but I'm going to put 3 points into Marksmanship for the +to ranged and tech accuracy instead of Explosive Engineering.

Although, I'm still debating on those 3 points.

  9. Just like any class, if you scour the swtor forums, you'll see a lot of QQ about "broken class" this and "fix this class" that. Don't pay attention to it.

Every mmorpg has had class issues and bugs to work out, and most of them still do, it's the blessing and curse of the ever evolving medium that we've chosen to be a part of. The more you worry about the little wrong things about anything in the game, the less you enjoy your gametime. Just kick back and enjoy.

That aside, for those of you going Sniper or consdering trying it out, this is a class that depends on a state of mind more than just hitting the right skills at the right time. When you fight as a sniper, whether you're a cover-whore Marksman or Engineering spec or you're more mobile with the Lethality spec, you need to THINK like a sniper. That means stay out of the man fray, pick your fights, stay at a distance. There really is no benefit to going into melee range if you can help it. Your melee stun is handy, but use it defensively or to stun a Pub that's annoying a teammate.

Sniper is one of those classes that really doesn't bloom until later in the trees. Marksman tree may be the exception sort've, but I digress. Once you're around level 30, you'll start to notice the Synergy.

    The skill trees:

Marskman: You're in cover 99% of the time doing as much damage as possible in the least amount of time to one target. Pretty basic. Some people love it, some people find it too 1-dimensional.

Engineering: You get a few abilities that aren't cover-dependent, but cover is still important for a build with this tree as it's main. Toys abound in this setup, from dropping probes and explosives. Yes, this tree gives out AoE plusses and AoE tricks, but don't be fooled. This is not an AoE skill tree. You'll just better with your AoEs. Bottomline, Engineering is all about survival. It's the best PvE tree of the bunch.

Lethality: DoTs and more DoTs. All about the DoTs. Also, this build is high on mobility. You really don't NEED to go into cover at all, but vet Snipers will tell you everytime that cover is priceless even with this setup. You get a coned defense for ranged and you pretty much have no interruption, which is great for Cull. Speaking of Cull, once you get that skill, the tree really clicks. For each poison on the enemy, Cull does tons of extra damage per hit. Also, in the end of the tree, there's Weaking Blast. It's pretty much a debuffer that ups the damage from your poisons. Some people will skip W.Blast and combine with some Engi to have I.Probe instead, a DoT from the Engi tree. Problem is, the I.Probe eats your energy and it's not the same type of damage. All Lethality poisons are internal. I.Probe goes by armor, so it really doesn't exactly have the same synergy. The benefit for going into Engi a bit instead of going to W.Blast in Lethality is getting the plusses to your explosives for AoEs. It's a trade off by preference, and you'll get people that argue both sides. My advice, try both and find what feels better for PvP, PvE, or what have you.

Finally, keep your gear updated. Blues and oranges for sure. Save money for late trainings and a nice speeder for level 50.

Let's see... anything else I can say? Um, well don't be afraid to try any of the 3 trees. They all work well. They're just different. So, if you like the playstyle of one over the other and you see a post that says "MM is best" or "Lethality sucks" or anything, ignore it. Find what feels best for you.

PVP advice: For me, as a Lethality build, it's all about being a vulture. I pick my fights. Also, I tend to be annoying to the enemy with the DoTs and CC's I have. And, the added mobility I have, helps me stay alive. NEVER, I repeat, NEVER be a lone gunman in PvP. You need to play off your teammates and stay close to them to succeed. A sniper's success is based on the synergy with your team. (I sure say synergy a lot don't I?)

    #headshot

  10. For leveling up I'd go Marksman, but if you don't want to that's up to you.

If you are going to play with Cull in Lethality you only have two choices. You either must get Cluster Bombs with at least 16 points in Engineering or go 31 points in Lethality to get Weakening Blast. Weakening Blast is extremely efficient damage and as such you'd be trading it for a better Explosive Probe and the Interrogation Probe ability. For PvP it's the difference between a group slow and stronger delayed burst with Cull or a single target slow and stronger sudden burst that is tied to a 30s cooldown. For PvE, the math is too close to call.

Of your two specific builds, the 31 points in Lethality is the only one I'd pick.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I do see the benefit of going into I.Probe and explosives, but you've confirmed what I've been thinking. I'm gonna go the build I have here that grabs W.Blast.

  11. Alright, after trying out different specs of different trees, I've decided I enjoy Lethality the most.

I'm at level 31 and now I'm at a crossroads between how I want to do things. In the end it boils down between going full into Lethality and colelcting W.Blast and stopping at Cull and going partway into Engi to get I.Probe and other perks.

    Here's the builds I'm comparing:

Thoughts please. All advice is welcome and encouraged.

    Thanks ahead of time!
