  1. This article is completely backwards, outdated and incorre t. Intel has now stated they are no longer focused on being performance leaders, instead they believe power efficiency will be the most important factor to focus on for the future. This information is all over the internet, here's some good reading with lots of supporting links to clickk through http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2226019 Also, according to the latest market data and financial reports within the last couple weeks, AMD is again taking market share from Intel in the desktop PC market. Not a fanboy of either, just trying to correct misinformation is all, I reccomend taking my post with a grain of salt and do your own research
  2. As an aside' CAS latency, timing, and reliability of your RAM are VERY important, the importance can't be understated really, and unfortunately very few people realize it. Generally the lower the timing numbers (these are the 9-9-9-24 in my post above) are better. CAS latency should be no higher than 9 for gaming performance, if you can find reliable CAS 7 for a good price jump on it, and I've never seen lower than 5, just to help give you a bit of a sense of scale. Also don't forget when using DDR3 above 1333 mhz, you generally have to manually set the appropriate RAM speed in the BIOS yourself, or else it will default to an underclocked state of 1333mhz or even 1066mhz depending on motherboard.
  3. I just completed a system last night built specifically for ToR on a budget and I was blown away honestly. Normally I aim for framerates in the 30-40fps range, and for as long as it's been around I've always disabled both shadows and Anti-aliasing in every game I play. However, this systrm is the first one I've ever managec to build on a budget that I can run with both shadows AND anti-aliasing, and not only that I'm never dipping below 50fps, and generally average 70-75fps at 1920x1080!!! I realize to many that may not be a big deal, but I don't exactly make alot of money so this is a really big deal and a first for me, lol. Here's what I built: AMD Phenom 2 X4 955 Galaxy GeForce GTX 570 1.25gb 8Gb Corsair DDR3 (2X4gb dual channel) w/ 9-9-9-24 timings at 1600mhz Cheap 1tb 7200 rpm hard-drive Cheap Antec Earth power 650w power supply Also I should mention that the only thing overclocked was the ram (in order to use ddr3 ram above 1333mhz you technically are overclocking, but I simply used the stats the ram was tested at, nothing more) Total cost of the system for an average American shopping for deals/online should be about$600-700 not including peripherals, monitor, or case. Also the hard-drive was about half-full, it's never been defragmented, BUT I was running on a clean install of the Windows 8 Consumer Preview, and on my 2 other systems Windows 8 CP has given me an average gain of about 7fps over Windows 7.
  4. Heir to the Empire Timothy Zahn Hands down best Star Wars book, especially for those new to reading Star Wars book. It's the first book in the Thrawn trilogy, and is written as a pretty much direct sequel to Return of the Jedi.
  5. Probably because ctrl+right click is considered a different and seperate bind from a simple right-click. Perhaps adding ctrl+right click to the camera mouse movement in keybindings would fix it for you? Not sure, good luck. But as an aside, thanks for pointing out something that I think may be really useful for me! I never considered this, but it may be an awesome idea to bind ctrl+left click and ctrl+right click to abilities for even faster use in combat.
  6. Just wondering if anyone knew. If you press CTRL+A during game it will say "Ambience On", pressing it again gives the message "Ambience Off". The game does not remember this setting after logout, so it defaults to off. In my testing I haven't noticed any discernible difference between "Ambience On" and "Ambience Off". Ambient sounds play equally under both settings, music seems unaffected, the graphics are not different. So what exactly is this "Ambience" and why is it always defaulted to off? Thanks guys.
  7. While I firmly believe that no ONE person can speak for everyone on this issue, I can tell you why I, personally, am hesistant to group. People on the internet today are by and large selfish a-holes. They're anti-social, go go go type of people that get pissy if things aren't done their way. Either they're impatient and want to blitz through content while min/maxing and "suggesting" better ways you can play or they go crazy slow and seem to either be constant afk without notice and lack the basic skills of WASD and left and right clicking. As far as guilds go they seem to be either completely disfunctional and no different then just joining a chat room while playing, or they take themselves waaaay too seriously with rules and requirements and applications and all types of bs just to join a group that plays a game. Unfrortunately the days of gaming old when gaming itself was niche enough that most people you met online were polite, reasonable people that were just as excited to explore and experuence an mmo world as you were are long gone. :/
  8. Thank you, I was losing hope after reading the ridiculous amount of complaints of the most idiotic things over and over and over again on this forum for months. Finally someone gets it! When you play Mass Effect, or Dragon Age, or Baldurs Gate, or Final Fantasy, or Call of frickin' Duty, do you beat the game, and then complain that there's not an unlimited number of things to do afterward? Do you complain that if there's multiplayer at all, there's only X number of maps and you have to pay to get more, and even then that option is few and far between? NO, YOU DON'T, the statistics speak volumes. What magic overcomes these people when they play an MMO that changes what could maybe, possibly, be a rational human being into a "special snow flake" who has so much UNWARRANTED SELF IMPORTANCE they feel it is perfectly reasonable to constantly demand the impossible. Protip "hardcore" people, every game has an END, eventually you WILL experience all the content, and there will be nothing new left to do. There could be 100 unique raids at launch, and the moment the first guild completed that 100th raid, the forums would be flooded with "game is dying" "company doesn't care about customers" and "nothing to do at endgame" posts. Do your research, you realize that in every major MMO, the MAJORITY of subscribers NEVER HIT THE LEVEL CAP... Let that sink in, that's right, the majority of people who play the games you obsess over, never even see this endgame you so constantly pursue and cherish (and gripe and complain about). Bioware has done what no other major MMO I've played has done. They've made me enjoy simply PLAYING the game. For the first time in all my MMO playing experience (dating back to Everquest and Asheron's Call) I didn't care what level I was! I wasn't doing quests and killing things just to hit the next level, or get the next piece of gear for some minor meaningless stat increase, to help me do the same thing all over again. For the first time this MMO actually played like a GAME!!! Finally an MMO that actually felt like playing every other kind of game I've ever played, you know, fun! Those who can't get over the fact that there's "not enough endgame" or "nothing to do at level cap", please, relax. Start treating this MMO like an RPG. Don't be afraid to enjoy the journey leading up to the end. Don't be afraid to get immersed in the story, find all the secrets, do all the side quests. Enjoy the ride! And should you do all of the above and STILL find yourself looking for more, then PLEASE, do what video game players, particularly RPG players, have done in every major game release they couldn't get enough of. Create a new character, start all over from the beginning, and see what happens when you do things differently (i.e. play a new class) and make different choices. Just maybe that will allow you to overlook the fact that this is the first MMO to ever be anything other than an MMO. This MMO actually dared to be a real game, instead of just a mindless treadmill. Thanks Bioware, keep on rockin'...
  9. Remember, WoW has been free to play for awhile now. If ToR ever went free to play, we, the subscribers, would most likely be unaffected. Looking at the model for most successful MMOs that have switched to a free to play model, they allow the option of purchasing content in lieu of a subscription. However they all still keep the subscription available, at the same industry standard price, with unlimited open access to the game. That model is no more or less pay to win than what we have right now, seeing as how right now it costs you $15 every month to even play, you're technically paying $15 each month for something neccesary to win in this game (i.e. access to the servers) lol. On another note though, who are we kidding? Don't let all the forum craziness fool you, ToR is ridiculously successful, it will be around and healthy for a very very long time. Bioware are listening to their customers, releasing timely updates with tons of features, and the product that exists this very moment is packed with unique content for the genre. The game is safe, quit all the worrying and doom and gloom, and just play.
  10. This has already been addressed by support multiple times. When this happens, it';s because the processor is bottle-necking. Unlike most PC games, this game is actually equally dependent on processor AND GPU, they both have to be up to snuff or you won't get decent frame rates in busy scenes with high settings. Sorry Good Luck
  11. I believe I've found the PERFECT game for you!!! http://www.amazon.com/Hasbro-40509-Whac-A-Mole-Game/dp/B0001GDP00
