  1. not sure if its been posted before, but I just ran into this and I'm not sure i understand what exactly is the reasoning behind it. I cast an ability on a mob - they should be tagged by me, instead of being subject to kill stealing, while I deal with the rest of the mob group. or is it too much to ask for? (I'm actually enjoying the game immensely and this is the first issue that I ran into that I would actively want to be changed)
  2. who cares? no honestly, who cares? one of the best guilds in a world beat content quickly. and? I'm not even high enough level to buy my speeder, on a single character I've been playing, group quests (that for all intents and purposes are mini flashpoints) are challenging enough that I have to use a large variety of abilities in my arsenal and wipes do happen id we get cocky, and I'm already reading sneak previews about a new flashpoint and raid expansion being released NEXT MONTH. so they beat the content quickly. unless majority of SWTOR players beat the content that quickly and grumble about farming the same raid for months (I'm looking at you TOC and ICC) - who cares what some "skip every cutscene, rush to 50, play nonstop until we have something to wave our e-peens around" people do? those attitudes are bad enough in WoW. get them the heck out of here.
  3. at first I hated them. then I was too stubborn to give up, so I kept trying and trying and then I got completely addicted to them.. now I'm mostly ambivalent- they can be enjoyable diversion and unless you are a twitch pro, they can be pretty challenging (screw you, asteroid field >_> ) but other then experience and a bit of credits which you can get elsewhere, doing something you enjoy more - the only rewards you get are ship upgrade specific. so they are 100% optional and if you don't like them, you really lose absolutely nothing in terms of progressing your character. well except for maybe a title "Flygirl"
  4. generaly in games like that, they give you more quests then you need to level, to give you an option to skip the quests or the chains that you don't like and still be able to move on. the side effect of that is outleveling the content a bit if you are completionist, but as a completionist, I personaly don't mind.
  5. back in a day, healbot literally used to chose spells for you, to the point where all you had to do was to use a single button for everything. a little nodding bird could successfully heal with old healbot (and of course when it broke, its users often were lost confused and couldn't figure out what to do). nowadays, its closer to grid/clique in its functionality. I disagree on recount. damage done, while better measuring stick is still insufficient. and very few people look at general activity, all of actions performed etc. SWTOR seems to emphasize being flexible, which means, you cannot just tunnel vision on a single task. did the baddie die? does it look like everyone was participating? then what's the issue then?
  6. if you had preordered, then you would have gotten preorder code separately and would have registered it earlier and been playing early access. if you are having trouble validating your actual game key - so far in my experience, bioware takes several days to get back to you, but they do get back to you and fix things. I've been playing with no issues. I have a hard copy of the game, but I didn't even realize that it had 3disks. I downloaded my early acess client as soon as bioware sent me an e-mail with its availability. no issues with patching the game here. couple of friends had issues with their preorder keys. those got fixed before official launch. they are playing now with no problems this is one of the smoothest MMO launches that I've ever participated in. I'm sorry that you are having issues, but maybe are you sure, you have tried everything you were supposed to before coming here to rage? P.S. even if TOR was the worst game ever, I wouldn't be going back to Azeroth. not in its current state.
  7. UI customization, better key binding options and macros (I miss my mouseover casting), resizing of the bars, moving around the UI elements - yes please. anything that actually seriously changes how you play by forcing you into min max or die mentality. no, thank you.
  8. very much this. assume that people are new/inexperienced and explain what should be done. if you know how to fix the issues, don't expect people to read your mind - tell them! politely. it really does work
  9. and speaking of launch event - a little something I made as a gift for Greg and Ray (and had I known there would be more Bioware folks there, i would have made more ) http://fc02.deviantart.net/fs71/f/2011/353/f/7/f799eab601d47d56e744b3ecd7203428-d4jmv21.jpg http://jeweledleah.deviantart.com/art/SWTOR-274844089
  10. so I've ran a flashpoint, did almost every group quest on a planet. leasurly. at random hours of the day and night, since I'm a pretty casual player and have odd hours. my friends are mostly republic side so I play my Sith completely on my own. never took me more then 10 minutes to find a group which is actually less then average wait time for WoW's dungeon finder. why? becasue I actually looked instead of spamming general channel, hoping someone will whisper me with invite. I asked if anyone was running anything. I invited people that whispered. i saw someone looking for more people for a heroic quest, and I whispered them to indicate my interest. I made a very tiny bit of effort? and it worked. automatic dungeon tool is NOT needed. its perfectly possible to find a group and have fun without it. it encourages you to talk to people, to meet new people, to make connections. it encourages you to appreciate the quests more, appreciate the people you are playing alongside with, see them as people instead of silent henchmen. global channel and something that makes it easier to travel to instance/group quest area? would be lovely. some sort of shuttle dispatch or something, that can be called up by the first person who gets to the right spot (and cannot be summoned if you are in a wrong spot). not necessary either, but not nearly as bad as the completely automated process. I keep wondering about people who keep complaining that SWTOR is WoW clone and then in the next breath ask for developers to add multitude of features that will actually turn SWTOR into WoW clone. if you want to play WoW? why aren't you playing WoW?
  11. global lfg channel - yes please. porting to instances once the group is formed - I can live with that. automatic matching tool? please, god, no. automatic cross server matching tool? subscription canceled. LFD killed my enjoyment of WoW. i didn't leave WoW for SWTOR, I left WoW and all the characters i had for years, becasue I couldn't stand it anymore. tried resubbing few months ago, was feeling nostalgic. few days and multiple pugs later... I was done. for good. automatic matching tool is like printing money to solve bad economy. it works beautifully for a short term but in a long run, it makes the situation even worse then before you implemented it.
  12. I like the way guild wars does it. the friend's list AND guild list is account base, BUT. you can log in as offline and stay hidden if you just want to play on your own. best of both worlds IMO. right now, I'm basically hoping for Legacy name to make me recognizable to friends. but its far from optimal solution.
  13. what amuses me is the people complain about more of the same, but when they realize that its not more of the same, instead of enjoying the game for what it is - they DEMAND more of the same. why?
  14. role playing novice here, but thought I'd say hi Sith inquisitor - Soulenai (current favorite and probably main), smuggler - Dangereuse, Jedi knight - Ororo, imperial agent - Dulari, currently. I have some friends on republic side mostly - more casual role players, but would love to get my RP feet wet at some point with people outside of my usual comfort zone.
  15. transferred a few servers, changed names some, but my last hurrah was on Turalyon server, with shaman main, Soulenai (which was her original name and the one I went back to). left because community completely fell apart with Cata, I burned out on hardcore raiding and the overly linear nature of the reworked Cata quests that you outleveled far too quickly (yes, SWTOR also has fairly linear quests, but there are still plenty of side quests that you may or may not do, and choosing different dialogue/gender on different playthroughs gives it enough of a difference to be more re-playable) I moved on to single player games and Guild Wars about a year ago. still playing those, but I plan on playing SWTOR for a long long while and make it my primary MMO. for the duration? I don't know yet, but definitely for a long while.
  16. this is personal experience, so it might not apply to others, but I might actually say something of that nature as a woman, with a husband who games. so its not something I'd say becasue I'm afraid to be caught, or becasue he'll be mad or whatever. its becasue at this point in my life, my first priority is spending time with my spouse. the game is not going anywhere, but when your schedules are all over the place, there's only so much time you have to spend with each other and unless you are both playing the same game .... well you get the idea then again, I'd probably do my best not to look for group when I know he'll be getting home soon, but sometimes you see an opportune instance group forming and you just grab your chance.
  17. OP, you didn't order through Origin, did you. people that I personally know who had issues with their preorder keys and access - ordered through origin. me I just had small queue and terrible lag that i finally managed to fix, once I found a post here, where people had the same issues and figured out that it was a problem with default low setting not actually being low. the game is a lot of fun and looks fantastic even on low setting. its not 100% smooth for everyone though. just keep being happy that you got lucky and have no issues.
  18. the only thing that will kill WoW is WoW itself. and honestly, this game is NOT for an average WoW player. and I say that as a former WoW player. people look at superficial similarities and go: "WoW clone" but its not. it has a very different feel to it. this is through and through - a bioware game. and I can't wait for a day when all the WoW tourists come crawling back to WoW and people who want to play TOR for its own sakes can finally enjoy the game and all it has to offer - in peace.
  19. in personal experience... almost every friend i met in WoW was BEFORE cross server lfg. once that thing was implemented... or it was great for the first few months... and then it degenerated into hell that was one of the nails in my personal WoW coffin. yes, cross server lfg and as a consequence, lack of server community were a big reason why i stopped playing WoW. my first main was a hunter - a pure dps character with a reputation of attracting less skilled players. and I had no issue finding groups. I never sat in a city, spamming trade, I would get into lfg channel and quest, watching if people were looking. and eventually I built up enough of a friend's list that I didn't even have to do that at least half the time. yes, there should be things to do in a world. and I'm pretty sure there will be. but the thing with automatic tool is that you never know when the group will pop up... so you cannot really do anything that requires considerable involvement. in other words - probably no questing, especially with SWTOR's system of dialogues. you don't want to miss your queue. looking for groups shouldn't be restricted to cities. but I'm not sure why you are assuming that it is. the tool that exists right now is NOT restricted to the cities
  20. the only other MMO I play right now is Guild Wars and it doesn't have subscription, so I guess the answer is.. kinda?
  21. WoW LFD tool was always multi server. the only thing they change recently was combine battlegroups (aka server clusters). I played before it was implemented and I had no issue finding groups, even for lower level dungeons, through general channels, or lfg channel. there needs to be something that makes it clearer for people that lfg function/channel even exists. but matching tool is too dehumanizing IMO. the game has been out so very little. give it time, build relationships with your server community and you'll end up with a friend's list of people you could call on when trying for group. also, I hear its possible to fill the lacking spots with companions. not as good as the real person, but much better then giving up.
  22. in my personal experience dealing with amazon, they tend to give themselves extra time when it comes to shipping estimates. if your order has already shipped, there's a good chance it will arrive on 20tieth or before unless you live somewhere deep in a countryside or something of that nature. unfortunately, you cannot change the shipping speed once the items has been shipped out, but in a future, double check with amazon close to game release - you can usually change shipping then and within USA at least, its 99c extra for release day delivery. good luck and hopefully your game arrives before dec 22.
  23. while anticipating the game launch, I did some playing with metal. this is the result now I just need to decide which one of them I'm going to wear to NYC launch event http://fc09.deviantart.net/fs70/f/2011/344/8/8/880f859fba793ee730fc995ef8782134-d4iqfvw.jpg http://jeweledleah.deviantart.com/art/Show-your-alligeance-Empire-or-republic-273331436
  24. adding my voice to this request. server specific forums would definitely be welcome
  25. B. I love the story, but I loved it in Beta as well, so that's a given. didn't have an issue with getting my early access 5 days early instead of seven. sure I whined to my friends who happened to pre-order months before me and as such ended up playing earlier. but all in all - I actually didn't expect to get in until friday, so playing Thursday was a lovely bonus. once I figured out that default settings were wonky and reset them - lag almost entirely disappeared. I had to wait in queue during prime hours... for about 5 minutes. 5 minutes is no big deal. couple of friends had issues activating their codes... due to Origin. dear EA, if you are going to remove games from steam and enforce digital distribution through origin only, get it straight before you make a lot of people very unhappy. both earlier delivery through amazon as well as 2 extra days of grace period to allow people to register their copies and play uninterrupted thumbs up. all in all, the fact that I could play relatively smoothly as soon as the game was available to me is a very big, positive plus. as a former WoW player I was used to the game being completely unplayable for several days, every time a new patch was released, so maybe my expectations were lower then most, but I'd consider it to be a pretty good launch. not perfect, but pretty good. (no, I didn't quit WoW to play SWTOR, I didn't even want to buy SWTOR before playing in weekend BETA, quitting WoW happened independently, almost a year ago)
