  1. Massive Multiplayer Online.

Kids, you probably dont remember past the last two or three MMOs that came out, but the fact is that SWTOR is not an MMO. There was a game called Neverwinter Nights. It allowed people to create and then host their own private worlds that they created (open code), so a single private server might host fifty to sixty people. That was more of multiplayer game than are 95% of the SWTOR servers. "Massive" means "a lot". Comprendez?

The argument that there are many subsribers to SWTOR so that makes it "massive" is idiotic.

Sometimes when I see such clealy vacuous and illogical posts I wonder if the poster is being deliberately stupid just to stir things up.

Meanwhile, all is well in Tera (although it seems to have attracted a lot of 14 yr olds )

Yea ive been having fun with tera as well, and they made the perfect amount of servers to keep the populations up. There is always people everywhere, tons of them too. I never once saw as many people in swtor than i have seen in Tera which is pathetic considering how many more copies swtor sold during launch so it had nothing to do with which game wwas more popular.

  2. I'm finding myself agreeing with the OP. I love this game and will continue playing it... but it's not an MMO in my eyes.

FFXI had servers capably of supporting 20,000 concurrent players... in 2002. The latest server population thread showed that SWTOR servers are reading as full at 3000 concurrent players... Not exactly massive.

This is a Co Op RPG. There isn't anything wrong with that in and of itself. But it's not an MMO.

Yea 3000 is pathetically small, and you know what that means? At launch the servers only held ....... 1500 concurrent players no wonder there was freaking queue's , for those who dont know a week or so after launch they doubled the max server pop for all servers.

  3. Yea i agree, the class story is a very small portion of the leveling experience. They spent way to much time and money on voice overs for every freaking quest. Ive been playing tera and i honestly dont mind the archaic non VO questing system its satisfying to pick up 12 quests at a quest hub and go out and complete them. It wouldnt be satisfying to do that for the second time through while listening to a bunch of VO for everyone of those quests.

Im not even advocating for tera i probably wont play after my free month is up as im playing alot of d3 right now but im just saying that going back to that questing system didnt bother me nearly as much as i thought it would and it was actually quite enjoyable in some ways and kind of a releif. Shushing my roommate everytime he came into my room because some VO was going on and not being able to talk to people on vent/ in person or being able to watch tv while playing actually took away from my mmo experience in alot of ways, it was alot of fun the first time, but not the second and thrid.

  4. I think its hilarious that he said that they hadnt lost any subs and then 2 weeks later its announced that they lost 400k subs (which is still very generous considering how many free months they gave out, my guess is the number will be just under 1 million as ppl's free month starts running out)

I highly doubt they lost 400K+ subs within 2 weeks after he said that.

  5. Well for one thing, it hasn't failed. Only in the minds of the disillusioned and haters has it failed. It remains the second most populated MMO in NA/EU. It has failed some people, and those people are very loud.

I think that will change sooner than you think though. Those numbers they posted with the 400k lost are still with everybody's free month. So many people quit when Ranked warzones got postponed or because they where dissapointed with 1.2 and still got that free month. So they had lost 400k subs even before that. Really the number is probably around 1million or slightly less and i think Aion has a higher sub in NA/EU since its gone F2P.

I really wish i was still enjoying this game, im co guild leader of a guild and I love playing with them, but there comes a point when you have to ask yourself if your just logging on and playing because you like your guild and dont want to let them down or is it because you like the game and are having alot of fun (it can be both obviously) for me it was the former and I decided that I cant justify playing a game I dont enjoy anymore Its been painful to do it for the past month and a half.

I just dont like the direction they are heading in this game, they make crafting viable with crit crafted gear, then they destroy that with the new augment kits. It doesnt make sense, they could have implemented it in such a way where you could still put augment slots on any gear without ruining the crafting they had built up in 1.2.

Whats more interesting, crafting different items and hoping for a crit as well as RE'ing items for recipes or making the same damn augment kit over and over again. I think the answer is pretty obvious. BW took the easy way out by just adding augment Kits, they could have expanded crafting even further instead of destroying it by just making any item available as a schematic to a certain crafter , what they did was a cop out that totally undermines what they created with patch 1.2 it was a bad design decision.

End game itemization is crap for PVE, with only 1 actual set of gear for each class to get per raid there is no variety, its boring and with the only form of end game progression coming from gear progression they dropped the ball pretty hard on that one. In other mmo's i always liked PVE (as opposed to PVP) because of the variety of items and stat customization you would get whereas in PVP it was just 1 set per season there was nothing really unique about the gear. Thats what PVE gear is like in swtor just 1 set per season (raid) and not even really the next raid they release will still be dropping tier 2 items that dont even have new set bonus's and basically all epic items have turned into post 1.2 is a container for mods, they should just get rid of items all together from end game drops to be honest and just release a greater variety of mods and then have no crafting schematics with new gear designs drop , that would honestly make alot more sense then the current system of masking new epic items as something more than just a container for mods.

So many things frusterate me about this game, but end game progression is the most important once you have a few level 50's, and the end game progression for SWTOR is far too linear for my liking. No unique items not many choices for gear beyond the few mods you can change and really there is only 2 armorings and mods per class and then 3 or so enhancements and they are always pretty much the same stat wise just with increased stats each time a new raid comes out. Alot of people dont even realize thats the reason they dont like the end game, they know something is missing but they cant put their fingers on it (i have heard alot of ppl say that) , IMO the thing that is missing is a good gear progression system, and good itemization for FP's , Ops etc. Right now HM FP's drop the same loot as Normal mode ops and share loot with HM ops as well and commendation vendors will get you all of that same loot as well. What could be more lazy then giving every end game PVE mode the exact same gear pretty much =/. They didnt even add new gear for Kaon or Lost island they just put in gear that most players already had, for its difficulty it was a joke that HM Lost island only dropped columi (and 1 piece of rakata) it should have at least dropped some new looking loot (even if it was columi equivilent) so people could rip the mods out and have some nice looking gear or something.

  6. Well first of all , all my friends have left. I had dozens of friends who where excited to play this game at launch and every single freaking one of them has left. Second Im a co guild leader and our guild had good turn ours for raid days 2 months ago, now we are lucky to get one day in and usually we have to pug a few people, but most of the time it doesnt even happen. Ive asked every single guildless person on our server to join our guild so im pretty much done with the recruiting department, not that there is many people on the server to begin with we get about 50 or so during peak on the republic side. How is that an mmo? The main hub has less than 20 people for close to 90% of the day.

The gearing system also annoys me for PVE. That was always my main gripe when my server was more populated and i actually had friends playing. 1. The same gear drops from virtually every aspect of end game PVE. HM FP's have the same gear as commendation vendors and normal mode ops, hard mode ops share some of that gear as well. Even when they add a new flashpoint it still only drops the exact same gear thats already available. Lazy developers are lazy. The linearity of the gearing is appauling, I always enjoyed PVE because of the gear diversity it had when compared with PVP (one of the many reasons) . In swtor they made PVE gearing system like it is in PVP in other games, where you essentially just have 1 set of gear per season (raid). Its disheartening to me to know that there are no rare or unique items to get from raiding, just 1 set for my class per raid (if even usually the set is spread across multiple raids) and that is it. In a game where the only form of end game progression is through getting new gear i find the lack of variety demoralizing.

Sure there are orange items and mods now, but IMO that made it even worse in some ways , now epic drops from raids are simply containers for mods, nothing more you really dont have anything to actually show for when completing a raid now nothing to show your accomplishments. The mod system was fine when it didnt allow you to remove armorings, it allowed for customization without completely ruining what end game gear progression actually is. The only problem was that BW added so little gear to their end game that everyone looked the exact same so they where practically forced to implement the current orange gearing system, and that new system which was designed for crafters is now going to be made completely useless by the new system they are adding that allows you to add an augment slot to any piece of gear (sounds pretty silly imo)

To many bad development decisions aimed at casuals and then they up and blame the casuals for the 400k people that left. Why go develop a game aimed at casuals then turn around and blame them for your lack of subscribers. If its the hardcore players that remain, then shouldnt you be developing content aimed at the more hardcore player. I think im somewhere in the middle but for the most part I find this game far to casual in design, i dont even know if its meant to be designed like that or if it just feels that way because the developers where lazy / rushed to release the game /patches. I was astonished for instance when lost island came out, and all it dropped was columi gear, and a rakata piece at the end, new content that is completely useless for a good portion of your PVE playerbase is pretty bad, and like many casuals could complete that instance in hard mode anyways, the first reall boss is actually quite challenging.

Anyways ill stop the rant, but i am certainly leaving this game, if you look at my post history i was probably one of the biggest defenders of this game several months ago. Times have changed though. Im off to play some diablo 3 , good night.

  7. I dont know if those numbers also include subs from the new 38 countries or if those are numbers from just before that.

Regardless i dont see how launching in those 38 countries would help them that much anyways, most of the ppl in those countries that wanted to play probably already ordered the game online at launch.

  8. Gotta love rumor and innuendo posted as fact. "Supposedly already seen" =! already seen.

But keep believing what you want.

Well for sure EA is laying off, but if its 500 -1000 like that article suggests then alot of them are coming from the vancouver office, my cousin is in management there and has been super distraught about all of the talented people hes had to fire over the past few weeks. I doubt many, if any are being laid off from the bioware austin studios.

  9. To be honest... I've tried to care about this game. I've tried to care about my character, and the world, and the story. But I just... don't.

Stories feel like movies that are broken up here and there by game play. What I mean is this: the story is SET. You literally have NO impact on the story whatsoever. You're not playing YOUR story, you are playing BIOWARE'S story. The dialogue options are absolutely meaningless and change nothing. Dark / Light Side is meaningless except for appearance.

The worlds are lifeless and static. Hell, they can hardly even be called "worlds". They're more like corridors painted to look like scenery and filled with enemies that are standing around, waiting to be killed. At least in other MMO's the mobs roamed around.

Combat is boring. It's the same as WoW's except WoW is much more fluid. Most abilities lack "flare". All of a Sorc's attacks are purple lightning. All attacks with lightsabers look generally the same, etc.

I could go on and on and on.. but these points have been stated before. I really, really wanted to like this game. In the end, I can't even force myself to log on anymore and I have a month of play time left.

Your playing biowares story I agree, but you do have an impact based on the decisions bioware has laid out for you. Their are certain moments this is very prevalent. Such as on my sith inquisitor near the end of alderaan when i decided not to do one of my class quests and reject the lady, I was hearing about that for 2-3 quests down the road and it certainly had an impact on my story, i would have seen a completely different chain of events had a chosent to help her.

Same with my smuggler, i chose to save someone instead of send him away or kill him and he ended up playing a very important role in my story, all the way to the end. There are lots of decisions that are far less obvious then the ones i mentioned that have an impact and different variations produce different results. Many guildies have leveled 2 of the same class but different AC's to 50 going light on one and dark on the other or choosing different lightside/ darkside decisions or going neutral and said that the story was quite a bit different, so you do have an impact its just based on the decisions that bioware has laid out for you (i dont know how else it would work tbh though, you cant have everything voice acted and have a million different varieties of a story, it just wouldnt work)

  10. You guys all know I am a major supporter of this game.

But what do you guys think it is that doesn't give swtor that "thing" that wow has. That "thing" that DAoC or EQ had. What do you think it could be? I have been trying to think about it for months upon months.

For alot...that special little "thing" isn't there. I can't put my finger on it, I really can't! I love this game A LOT. But there is just that....oomph and "HELL YEAH" feeling that is missing. Really..this is driving me insane. What do you think it is? I'm trying to figure it out for some..

If your talking about end game, then the feeling your missing is the sense of acheivment. Getting full columi from 2 days of running HM FP's certainly didnt give me any sense of achievment, or getting full rakata shortly thereafter it was all to easy.

Also its the way they handled end game itemization that really doesnt give it that oomph, having only 1 set per tier (like they do for pvp in this game and others) for PVE content is lazy and boring. Sure the new orange items are cool, but with this new system it basically only puts an emphasis on modifications so your really not raiding or doing FP"s for actual gear in the end game, your not doing it for gear that will change your appearance and make you look cooler, your not doing it for gear with better/ different stats, your not having to decide whether replacing a BIS non set piece with your tier gear is worth it.

I think it was a big mistake to have this game focus on solely modifications for end game gear. I like the idea of the orange gear system, but in reality it just gives BW an excuse to be lazy and rehash loot in different parts of their game, such as : HM FP's drop the same loot as Normal mode ops and some of the same gear as hard moode ops, then you have commendation vendors which also give you that same loot. I mean hell they couldnt even add new loot for the 1 new flashpoint they put into the game , it just gives you columi and rakata, its the same with story mode of the new operation, it drops rakata as well (i havent done it yet but thats what ive been told). If they insist on duplicating loot throughout so many different aspects of the game, and placing all the importance on mods, at least either A. Have operations / flashpoints drop Rare mods that you cant get anywhere else (maybe they could change your appearance slightly?) or B. Have the gear that drops have a chance to have a rare mod that you cant get anywhere else in it or maybe a rare armoring with a different set bonus then the current ones and you would have to collect these armorings for different pieces of your gear to get the full set bonus.

Honestly considering end game progression is solely based on gear in this game, they need something to make it unique, having orange crit crafted gear is great but its something that goes alongside progression not something that improves progression. The progression in this game is just kind of dull, and that is the oomph that is missing IMO

  11. It's the epic struggle between PvE'ers and PvP'ers. PvE'ers want content and story, PvP'ers want to rush past the story and get to max level as quick as possible in order to start farming the best PvP gear.

It's not necessarily a generational thing (unless PvE'ers tend to be older and PvP'ers tend to be younger)

I would say that this is generally true, that PVP gamers are usually younger and PVE gamers are usually older. Obviously there are tons of exceptions so dont come at me with "but im 45 and i only pvp"

When your younger you generally have a more competitive nature towards others anyways IMO. I think its fairly common for people to calm down on their competitive nature as they grow up but it certainly isnt always the case. Their is certainly a competitive nature among the top end of PVE as well, and with damage meters and such it adds another competitive side to PVE MMO's that allow such features/addons.

Id say its fairly safe to say that the PVE crowd is generally an older crowd.

  12. Its clear that BW has upset a sizeable portion of what is left of the player base with the 12th hour removal of ranked war zones. I think most of this outrage stems not from the fact that ranked war zones didn't make it in to 1.2 but in how it was announced. A lot of people simply find it hard to believe that this wasn't known about days, if not weeks before the late announcement yesterday. Yesterday's announcement seemed like it was grudgingly made in order to avoid the bigger storm that would have followed had this change gone live today unannounced.

The big issue is the manner in which this change was made, not in the change itself. BW needs to recognize that its credibility has taken a huge hit and take steps to mend that damage. The first step should be to issue heartfelt mea culpa to the community. The second step should be some form of compensation, especially for those who resubscribed for 1.2. I can't honestly say what that compensation should be, but given the size of this fiasco, I would suggest something grand.

BW, please do something. Show us all that you're still the company we thought you were.

It certainly wasnt known about weeks ago, last weekend they were incentivizing people testing the ranked warzones and the ELO on the PTS , probably after a few days of people extensively testing it they realized that it wasnt going to work in its current form, so at most they knew about it a few days ago, and it probably wasnt set in stone until a day or 2 ago.

Really what they are doing is cutting the fat off the system to make it work properly, they are making rated warzones only for 8 man premades, it should come out pretty soon to be honest, alll they need to do is trim the fat.

  13. nobody is forcing you to use the fleet pass boost, really. for 2 million you can get a loooooot of fleet passes.

and really.. uh... *cough* ... pve dailies = hallo credits!

Wish the new corellia dailies werent so dissapointing, they promised more story with the corellia dailies. I remember at the guild summit they asked when more story was coming ( they meant class story) and the devs responded that with 1.2 there will be new dailies with a new story. No story as far as i can tell, there is 1 quest with dialogue at the begining and all the rest come from a stupid terminal.

It will be more convenient to do the quests, and i know the story would probably get boring after a few times (probably the reason they didnt implement it because they are repeatable) but still they shouldnt have said that the new corellia dailies would provide story ><

  14. I know some people will like not having to go through all the text, and im not usually one to complain on these forums.

From my POV though the corellia dailies area or what ive seen so far is the laziest POS ive seen in a while i was at least expecting the standards of ilum and belsavis and the standards werent set very high there. At the very least you could have made the quests have alient voices.

Fromm what ive seen so far you get every quest available from 1 terminal that is just sitting there in the blackhole area, there are a few lines of dialogue leading up to getting acess to this terminal and thats about it.

Also i thought the weekly would be an actual quest, like a challenging 4 man heroic or something, nope its just what you get once a week for completing the dailies there.

I logged on and the first thing i wanted to do was check out the new story that was implemented into the blackhole area. Dissapointing. I remember at guild summit when people asked when more story was coming they said that the new dailies area will have story, i dont consider poorly written quests from a terminal story....

Loving everything else about this patch, but so far corellia seems like a huge dissapointment, who knows maybe there will be more quests fromm actual NPC's scattered throughout the area, i guess we will see.

  15. Story = Full Columi required

    HM = Full Rakata

It was said their whole intention was progression through EV/KP (fully geared) before setting foot in EC. They might tweak it a little more, but as it stands now a solid group in full columi should be able to complete story mode.

Your in cali killed knox correct? have you guys cleared the first boss yet (i know you guys got the closest and last i heard had them down to 150k but i wasnt sure if it was cleared yet) I was thinking based on the difficulty of the bosses (which is great obviously) that the progression would go something like , nightmare karraga's palace for blackhole comms and other methods of getting blackhole comms until you get some blackhole comm gear, into hard mode explosive conflict. Maybe im wrong but thats how i perceived it especially considering that nigthmare KP drops Blackhole Comm's (unless they changed that?)

  16. A metric S**t Ton ???? are you kidding me?

Curious as to how you're weighing this.

How Exactly is the legacy system going to keep people/guilds such as myself logging in night after night?

I have 3 50's Don't really care about leveling any more. at this time.

Space slug is consistently pushing a whopping 50 people on the fleet at peak hrs.

Where the eff are server xfers ?

Most of my guild doesn't pvp - they would rather play another game with more raid content. something that has more of 4 hrs of raiding per week.

We play for the Raiding/Ops environment.

how do you release a new Ops with fewer bosses than even the previous Ops had ?

and don't say "Cause these bosses are HARD"

Seems like a very poor choice, and I hate to say it, but I see even more people leaving the game now.... >.< All there is to do end game is PvP or level alts period. we allready clear both of the current ops in one night. hell in a few hrs. so now we may get 8-10 hrs of raiding per week, granted we farm the old content, which we've been farming since release....

    Thanks Bioware/EA !

Remember there is the open world boss as well, so really its 5 bosses so far for this tier. They knew they were going to do 5 bosses and they made the decisions to add the fifth boss as an open world boss rather than have him in the operation.

  17. Hey guys,

Before release i am sure one of the topics that was brought up alot by the devs at conventions is that there would be a planet at lvl 50 for people to do solo content and progress that way if they didnt want to group up.

Is this something we know much about yet or has it been put on the back burner so they can focus on different things?

(if this is something i have imagined i apologies lol)

Ilum and belsavis both have level 50 solo content. In most mmo's level 50 solo content (in terms of questing at least) comes in the form of dailies.

And as of patch 1.2 corellia can be added to that list as well.

  18. Oh, they don't know what they are bringing live? They just log in after they patched it and write down all the changes they notice? Riiiiiight...

Not at all, they never release the patch notes until the patch has gone live, usually its not until the morning even sometimes right after the servers go up it still has notes from the last patch.

    This isnt something new.....

Obviously they are ready, but right now the whole team is busy getting 1.2 ready for us on the servers, once its up the patch notes will follow. Calm down

  19. This is getting irritating. Seems like there is a god-awful lot of maintenance. Frustrates the hell out of me. If the game wasn't ready you shouldn't have released it.

lol there wasnt any maintenance earlier in the week, and they are doing it to add new content to the game (a huge patch) i dont understand how anyone could be mad about this.

  20. Lets all face it, when the game released, end game was unfinished. Littered with bugs, several rendering aspects of the game completely unplayable, the game was a nightmare at 50. Throughout the last several months I've seen my server population (Make of Nihlus) drop like a stone, and several unsubscribes have just lost interest in daily quest grinding, meh-grade pvp, and progression raiding through encounter that bioware clearly didn't have a grip on (Soa, Pylons, even interrogators clone bug, we still have a commando who has never beaten him, etc). Finally 3 months in most of the bugs are solved, through those months much of the community has worked around the poor mechanics and such.

So, this is it bioware. You've put a lot of hyping into this patch, your cards are on the table, and I for one am basing my sub on how well this patch rolls out. Is content buggy? Is everything just a new grind? Do you bring anything new to pvp?

The ranked warzone cancellation is a huge issue which has everyone talking, and I'm sad it's not going to roll out. You guys screwed the pooch on that one, but I'd rather you delay it, then roll it out incomplete. The content that is released should feel vibrant, should feel tight, few minor glitches are acceptable, but SOA 2.0 is not what anyone wants.

Please, over the course of the next few weeks, be honest, and listen to your community. Dedicating resources to something you care about, but your subscribers don't, is going to cost you big.

Some things it seems people want...

    - 8 Man Warzones

    - In Game Combat logs

    - Useful and practical legacy options (Increased xp options, head start with crafting, etc)

    - Server Merges

    - Cross server warzones for low population times

Just look at it from a pvp players point of view...

    - Same 3 warzones for four months

    - Huge flop that is Ilum

    - Big promises for the future delayed for who knows why ("It's not done" isn't good enough, go into why, be honest and real with your players, goes a long way)

    - Frustration mechanics (In a 20 second period on my inq, was pull into a fire pit, was pulled out by teammate, was knockback into huttball arena, was stunne, then rooted to the ground, then stunned again, each of those abilities have a 15-45 second cooldown, while my 2 minute single stun breaker was on CD. In that's 20 seconds + of game play I was able to hit 2 instant casts. How bout you make it so when you hit your 2 minute cooldown it maxes out your resolve bar instead of a single stun break)

    And your raiders?

    - Every week new soa bug

    - limited content

    - broken content

    - terrible loot optimization (did anyone even look at jedi guardian tank gear? Accuracy and surge? REEEAAAALLY?)

Basically, this patch better be great, or I'm done. I think many are in the same boat.

It seems you lack some knowledge about how resolve works. http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=61363

    Check this out

  21. Im using a sata 2 kingston 120gb one and when i reinstalled it on my ssd after freeing up some space my load times halved easy. My normal 1tb harddrive is pretty crap but still.

So if your going to go with a newer SATA3 one i can imagine it being even better, i noticed a significant improvement, and my wait time never last more than 20 or so seconds now it seems at most
