  1. Database performance, if numbers get too high and the DB engine sucks. But hey thats why i say increase also other prices to help "deflate"... Then, in any case if you select other approach, caps should increase, no matter what. As the current situation is not desirable.

     

    DB performance would not be impacted by bigger numbers. The change in column type from an INT to a BIGINT is a size increase, but would almost negligably affect performance considering the overall amount of data being stored, and the fact proper schema and index setup have way more impact than a single column like this. While there are many concerns for inflation, this would not be one of them.

  2. I wish they would put back in all those retired crafting schematics, especially the color crystals you used to be able to get from reverse engineering that are no longer obtainable. I'd pay a decent amount of credits per schematic and it'd give a little needed boost to crafting.

     

    Another possibility for a credit sink is expensive credit-only crafting mats for collectibles and vanity items. Seriously, if there was a cool mount and it required 5x of a particular mat that cost 100m credits to buy, people would do it, it's been done in other MMOs.

  3. Was there a change to the mail message from the GTN for item sales? It used to tell me which item sold and the amount of the GTN cut, now the message just says:

     

    "Someone has purchased the item you put up for sale on the Galactic Trade Network. Attached is your asking price and deposit, less the Galactic Trade Network's commission."

     

    I sell a lot of different things on the GTN, would be nice to have the old message that told me which item sold so I can keep track.

    1) comparing a GAME to work is an awful analogy, nobody pays for the privilege of going to work in their leisure time

     

    2) I'm not sure how many times people have to repeat this before you at least try and comprehend: RAIDING DOES NOT HAVE TO BE THE ONLY WAY TO EARN SOMETHING. RAIDING IS NOT THE ONLY WAY TO 'WORK' FOR SOMETHING.

  5. It's getting nerfed (biochem) now you all can stop your whining. By the way, skills aren't to craft better items than end-game gear. You are psychopathic if you think this. Otherwise people would simply not bother.

     

    I think you should probably look up the definition of 'psychopathic'. I think you should also check out games other than SWTOR and WoW if you think crafting can't be a viable end-game mechanic without destroying group content.

    Yeah you're right. That's why mechanics for every aspect of the game require massive grouping. Like the multiplayer space missions. And why all the quests are HEROIC 2+. And all the flashpoints are actually operations.

  7. You have to push buttons and move your character and react to things that are happening on screen.

     

    There is nothing that prevents an epic solo quest from having that type of difficulty. An encounter can be made that only someone playing their class very well, or strategizing, can pass. You can even have "gear check" solo encounters if you really wish. Same thing for small-group content. What are considered raids in SWTOR would be considered small-group content in other games. You've played them, I'm sure you see this.

     

    What it doesn't require is skill. When I say you can be afk I mean that literally -- the things don't get made while you are at your keyboard. It's a behind the scenes calculation that can take place while you're offline.

     

    When you craft something from a schematic that came from a raid, it's the same "no-skill/afk" process. And yet that is somehow seen as being 'earned', because someone had to raid to get the schematic or mats. And that is all crafters are asking for, is ways to earn high-level and rare schematics and mats from mechanics other than raiding. And yes, it can be made challenging.

  8. What I find terrible is that Bioware could have had some help with the crafting and made it similar to SWG's amazing crafting system I didn't expect it ofcourse but I did think some of the ingenuity of the SWG crafting system would find it's way into ToR.

     

    I guess I'm a fool for having believed Erickson when he said this. Really this quote had me more excited for the game than anything else shown and I'm dissapointed. I really wanna see some real work done on the Crew Skills system.

    Yeah, after all the pre-game hype and interviews about how much they were working on crafting and they wanted it to be a major part of the game, it's an incredible disappointment. The reverse-engineering to get new schematics and crew missions to gather some rarer materials have potential, but in the end the crafting feels just like WoW: grind it to max level and then do raids for the majority of stuff that is either useful or desirable.

  9. I was really surprised that Artifice didn't have a huge variety of color crystal patterns. I'm definitely for having rare and hard-to-get colors, but I was expecting a lot more color choices and a deeper lightsaber crafting system than this.

     

    Your suggestion probably would be a little bit difficult (you'd need a separate item for every possible hue in addition to stat varieties), and I think that some colors like magenta should be harder to make than simply mixing a certain combination of super-common red and blue crystals. But it's definitely intriguing and something that could be built upon.

     

    Even a system with base common colors (green, blue, red, yellow, orange) and quests or higher-level recipes to slightly alter the hue in different directions or add a different colored outline (like the yellow-black crystal for example) would be cool.

Now we're at the point where it not only is it too much to ask crafters to do something in a raid for a few schematics (if they happen to want those things), but now *flashpoints* are too arduous? How do you answer the critics who have been saying that you want to break the risk-reward model and just have stuff handed to you?

     

    This game does not have an active crafting system. Maybe there's an argument that it should (I don't think so personally, but that's for another thread), but given that it doesn't, it's dangerous to give rewards and incentives for things that require no element of skill, and can even take place while people aren't even online.

     

    The problem is the assumption that the only thing that requires "skill" in a game is raiding. Think back to all the games you've played in your lifetime, were none of them challenging except when you had to group with a large amount of other people? If so, what's the minimum number of people that a task should require for it to be "challenging"? WoW raiders would laugh at the notion of "high end raids" requiring less than 25 people, clearly not challenging. Vanilla WoW and oldschool EQ raiders would laugh at the notion of less than 40 people doing raids and calling it challenging.

     

    Other MMO's have accomplished having deep crafting systems without resorting to "put everything in endgame raids". It is not impossible to make solo or small-group content challenging when dealing with instanced content and optional difficulty levels. Nobody is asking for "push a button, get rich in 1 hour" crafting. Nobody is asking for "remove all high-level schematics and mats from raids" either. Crafters would actually like for a lot more rare schematics and hard-to-obtain mats, just without putting ALL of them in raids because of the warped view that "raiding is the only thing that requires skill".

    I've seen your type so many times before, usually booted out when a guild fractures because of all the 'my way or ****' drama.

  12. Neither should gear or buffs or anything else then? Stupidest post so far. You always bring your A game to the table and at the moment that is 400 bio. Sure, you wanna slack and get carried by others who do the work, if thats fine with your junk clan then go ahead.

     

    And then you come out in PvP and face ppl who uses it and gets thrashed there aswell, but hey, you dont need it right.

     

    Sometimes the stupidity is so bad it hurts my eyes.

     

    Hahahaha, riiiight. You can farm your dailies, come with consumables, play your class well, but don't do this one thing because you might actually have a desire to craft, and it's because you want to slack and be carried.

     

    This is why I stopped bothering with hardcore raiding, it attracts too many internet tough guys and douches.

  13. so, he should keep your lazy axx around when there are twenty other guys that are working to get a spot in raid and are as good players as you and have worked hard to get the best gear and best skills, why?

     

    in my last guild in Rifts there always were some guys that wont bother to get runes on their equip pieces, wont buy consumables, wont farm raidrifts for their belt and so on - we always offered help with farming drops, to caft consumables and runes if they got the materials and help them by explaining the best ways to get them - but when some wont actually put their work at that they would just left out of our raids.

    people that dont care about the group requirements have no place in the group.

     

    Pretty sure there's an enormous difference between "make sure you're prepared for a raid" and "i am so obsessed with minmaxing that I will demand that you have this profession or you will be replaced, because the people in my guild are just interchangeable resources that all perform the same"

     

    I've been in these "you work to get in a raid, you work to stay in the raid" guilds. There are legitimate expectations for hardcore raiders. But when leaders make ultimatums like the biochem thing, and can only lead with "do as I say or I replace you", that just shows a lack of real ability.

  14. NO, the only difference is I'm not sugar coating it. if you don't keep up with the rest of the group and your performance falls off you'll be replaced. If your not putting in the same amount of effort and performing to the same level why should I expect the other 14 people in the op to pick up your slack. It's not fair to them.

     

    And if you can't beat a raid because one person doesn't have a profession, then you have other problems.

     

    Not sugar coating it, you're a bad leader.

    "Look around you. All these other people who want a raid slot have optimal professions, they've spent the time to grind out the level 51 and 56 mods from dailies and PvP. Etc., etc... If you don't keep up you're going to lose your spot to one of them."

     

    Yep, sounds like a pretty bad guild or raid leader. Glad I don't associate with those kinds of people anymore.

  16. Its pretty clear why a Focused raid/operations guild would take such as action, Claiming its "idiotic" is out of line. If you dont like how a progession guild operates than find a more "casual" guild.

     

    Here's how a sane guild might present it:

     

    "Hey guys, the Biochem medpacks are really powerful right now, and would be really useful to us in raiding.

     

    (Bunch of stats explaining the benefits)

     

    Considering the difficulties we are having in getting past (boss) in (raid), I really want to ask people to switch over to Biochem, at the very least until we can get to the point of consistently finishing the raid without needing every possible edge.

     

    Now I know a lot of you want to be able to do other crafting professions, and the game only allows one crafting profession per character. So, I'd like to ask you all to very strongly consider making an alt to do your crafting and putting Biochem on your main. The guild bank will help you out with credits/mats to level up Biochem and your alt's crafting. And we'll do some XP groups on off-days to help level up those alts so you can progress far enough to get your companions.

     

    I'm not going to demand that people switch to Biochem, but if we don't get enough that do and we can't get past this raid, I may have to strongly consider it as a requirement. Please consider picking up this profession, and we can re-evaluate if Bioware ever changes the profession or the raid mechanics, thanks!"

     

    as opposed to:

     

    "You don't raid unless you are 400 Biochem."

     

    That's the difference. Hardcore raiding guilds can accomplish their goals and get what they want without ultimatums and acting like dictators.
