  1. Personally, I prefer this type of MMO with lots of story over those that don't. I'm having a lot of fun with different characters, and exploring what Bioware has developed. I don't really even think about endgame yet, and I'm certainly not powerleveling just to be 50 as fast as possible. Honestly, I don't understand why people would play any game if they don't like the process. MMO players want lots of different things. You can't group MMOers into a single category and make grand sweeping statements about what "the community" wants because the truth is we are more like a collection of communities. For people who came into SWToR expecting a sci-fi clone of WoW, they're going to be disappointed. For people who read the press, the many announcements, and advertising about SWToR, I'm not sure why you'd be shocked or surprised that this game is intentionally different than other MMOs. So yes, story is very important for this game, and it's very important for this MMO player.
  2. Many, many DPS are used to the wotlk "max dps!!!" deal, instead of learning to use CC, slowing, focused fire, and (perhaps most importantly) turning down their DPS when necessary. Max DPS isn't going to cut it. You'll just have to educate them, or stop playing with the AOE enthusiasts until they get the message.
  3. Honestly, I wish they hadn't put in romances at all. It's just odd. Even back in the day with the Baldur's Gate series, the romances were clunky and a little disturbing at times. And in SWToR, apparently humans will sleep with any old alien race which is bizarre IMO. None of the current relationship options seem sexy to me. Ultimately, if you must have romances in the game, they should go both ways to be fair. But I'd be far happier if they were thrown completely out.
  4. Wait... level 26 on Taris, a 32-36 lvl planet? Is that even possible? Or did you mean to say you're level 36?
  5. Heh, I was there for vanilla WoW launch. Can't even remember how many times I fell through the earth, or snagged and got stuck on various things. Still, good times.
  6. Well... come on. Even in the novels and movies, a Jedi could instantly go full-on dark side because of 1-3 choices, and Darth Vader himself was redeemed by the light for one choice. Many of the things that give you dark side points are silly moustache-twirling kinds of evil that don't make much sense for anyone to choose, even if you happen to be Palpatine, and other dark side things are more like just perspectives. Similarly, many light-side points are awarded for acting in a completely sanctimonious, holier-than-thou kind of way that are very distasteful. So yeah, the light / dark isn't really doing a terrific job in the game. Particularly when rather good equipment is dependent on many of those quirky choices.
  7. I will agree with this. Even though I've gotten a little (and I do mean a little, not a lot) bored with the on-the-rails feeling, I do very much like the option of just questing if I don't want to group with people for heroics or instances (or vice versa, depending on my mood on a particular day). More planets might not be the only (or best) answer... just more quest-line options. Don't get me wrong, additional planets would be very cool, and I think they've done an admirable job with most of their storylines. Because of the voice acting, it does feel very immersive and personal, even though I still know that every Sith Sorcerer is pretty much doing exactly the same things as my Sith Sorcerer. It's replay-ability that might suffer in all this. Won't really know myself until I make another toon of the same class.
  8. I've started to get bored already, having only had 1 beta weekend, a few days early access, and up to now since the launch. It's a game that is very, very "on the rails" so to speak. Many aspects are very fun, and I like a lot of the off-rails stuff you can do, like crafting. But I too wish that they'd put in more exploration, more things to find (other than holocrons), and at times I would kinda just like to plug in some music and grind a bit. Also, I like that you can make choices that are either light or dark side. But at times, many dark side choices don't seem all that dark and quite a few light side choices seem really very sanctimonious. In some cases, light vs dark is dependent on perspective... yet other times, it's over-the-top moustache-twirling evil that doesn't make sense except in children's comics. Then having certain equipment dependent on levels of light / dark, when you can't go back and fix things, not great for a game. Particularly when in the novels and movies people could almost immediately go from being a happy light-sided Jedi to being totally dark side Sith with a few choices. Or have a quick redemption like Anakin Skywalker after a significant lifetime of evil acts.
  9. He's probably another corporate shill, or worse just a garden variety troll. When he claimed that I'm lying, and yet you and I and others know the truth, it's clear that he's just muddying the waters.
  10. Hello, corporate shill. What's true for parts of Europe isn't true for other parts of the world. I played vanilla WoW also, and many other MMOs, and not one of them required it.
  11. You are correct, and it wasn't required in vanilla WoW, either. This thread has a couple corporate shills that are trolling people who have valid complaints, IMO.
  12. I ended up putting in my credit card, but frankly I'm still angry about the whole thing. For those who got this as a gift, and intended to play with time cards, the "30 days subscription included with purchase" (right on the box!) was an absolute lie. Imagine those people getting up and wanting to play, then having to essentially buy a subscription to be able to play their own Xmas gift. Yes, it says "valid credit card OR game time card required to play" as well, but this is immediately followed with "30 day SUBSCRIPTION included with purchase" (caps mine). So it's false advertising and definitely a shady business practice. The bottom line, for all these people saying "that 30 days was FREE time!" or "every company who runs an MMO does this!", you're absolutely wrong on both counts. When you buy a game with 30 days, it's not "free" - it's part of your purchase, and most MMO companies include the 30 days because people wouldn't buy the game without it. Furthermore, I have played MANY different MMOs, and WoW was the only one I ever gave my credit card. Even then, it was never required even in vanilla WoW. The ONLY reason that EA / Bioware is engaging in this "bait and switch" false advertising is because their corporate office wants to be able to brag about how many full subscriptions they have at launch. But people don't like to be tricked, memories are long, and you can only make one first impression. Was I planning to subscribe? Yes, but that doesn't make this practice right. I wanted to be sure that I actually did get my "30 day subscription included with purchase" (again, it was right on the box). And if anyone feels like trolling me for saying this, you're defending them for all the wrong reasons: shame on EA / Bioware, and shame on you if you're trying to defend them.
  13. You're not getting it. The real problem is that it is an incredibly misleading business practice. On the box, reading it right now, it says "30 day subscription with purchase". If you cannot enter your codes and play, after buying the game with that message on the box, it's a serious problem.
  14. Pretty awful business practice, really. To have purchased the collector's edition of the game, where it clearly says "30 days game subscription included with purchase" right on the box, then come to find that you need an ADDITIONAL commitment in order to use your 30 days, that's not something that makes me happy. Not at all. It doesn't say "30 days free with additional time purchase", it literally says 30 day subscription included with purchase. 30 minutes wasted waiting on phone support, finally hung up. In-game customer support contacted, then sends me a copy/pasted standard email that doesn't address my issue at all. Could not even post a message in this forum without giving them my credit card and paying an additional subscription fee. First impressions are everything, Bioware. Shame on you.
