  1. Interestingly, the Rebel Alliance ships are pretty close to the Republic Era ship designs:

There's at least one hammerhead in there, and the bigger ships resemble the big capital ship you see in SWTOR occassionally.

To a certain degree, I'm sure that's just Bioware trying to establish familiarity. You don't pay that much for a licence and then make it unrecognisable.

  2. More what I'm... "curious" about, is Dromund Kaas. I was under the impression that the Emperor had completely left the galaxy, or at least taking place is a far more remote location. Maybe I'm just misjudging it, but it doesn't look any more out-of-the-way than Hutta or Hoth, striking me as odd the True Sith could've gone *so* long without any contact beyond Revan and Malak, and their handful of spies.

Don't get fooled by the star map. It makes the galaxy look pretty small. In reality, the actual placement of the systems should make no difference what so ever. You cold probably hide an entire empire right in the middle of the core worlds, and no one would notice.

The milky way has about 300,000,000,000 stars in it, most of which with their own solar system. And still more than 99% of it is empty space. You don't just happen to "drive" by a solar system on your way to work. Either you know exactly where it is and are specifically going there, or you won't see more of it than a little sparkle in the sky.

This also holds true for the Star Wars universe. Even if they can travel faster than light, they still have to know exactly where they're going, or they'll end up in empty space. The old Sith Empire and the Republic coexisted for thousands of years, spanning hundreds of worlds without them knowing of each other. The only way the Empire found the Republic is because they got the coordinates from some (statistically incredibly) unlucky traders. Otherwise, the Republic would have remained invisible to them.

  3. And I think grey characters don't really make sense, as others have mentioned they would have to be bipolar, they lack continuity, and we already have the choice to have a little bit of LS points if we're mainly DS or vice versa.

It's really not as simple as that, much to Bioware's credit. Many choices in the game are actually quite difficult. Take the Esseles for example. Do you risk getting hundreds of people killed to save a single person, or do you sacrifice that person to ensure the survival of everyone else?

The problem is that a morality system only really makes sense if you are free to define your morality. But in certain ways, the game punishes you for doing so. It should encourage you instead. As it stands, you might as well just pick light or dark side at character creation and then stick with it, because you're apparently not supposed to ever change your view later on.

It also doesn't really make sense lore wise to reward pure light or dark side characters in terms of power, since Bioware itself is the one pushing the mastery of both as the more proficient way of using the force (Revan, anyone?).

    [TL;DR]

Keep the system and the choices as they are, they're mostly fine, but don't couple the LS/DS system in any way with character performance.

  4. There are pretty decent concepts for JK gear, and a lot of it is actually in the game. I like to think that NPCs do wear regular armor meshes, and a lot of them look very nice (see the JK NPCs on the space station).

But for some reason, they're holding out on us. Probably to test our resolve. To see how easily we would fall to the dark side, seeing all their fancy armor designs (except of the atrociously ugly lvl 50 set).

I'm sure they have to add the good looking sets eventually. Everything else would just be mean.

  5. Am I the only one who enjoys it if things get a little bit messy? Who ever said we needed to tank every single mob..? DPS can take non Elite mobs without a problem.

Makes it more interesting for the healers, because they actually have to heal more than one person, makes it more interesting for the DPS, because they actually have to watch the screen and makes it more interesting for the tanks, because they actually have to work for their job.

The mindless AOE spamming in WoW got pretty old pretty fast.

  6. Do Oranges exist in every armor slot? I've seen orange chest pieces and lets, but so far (granted, not yet level 20) I have not seen oranges in any of the other slots.

You can buy orange boots from the light/dark side vendors with lvl 27 or so. The republic dark side vendor also has a pair of heavy armor orange gloves, which is kind of odd, since the light side vendor apparently doesn't.

Armor crafters can craft better orange gear than dropped orange gear. End of story.

Last time I checked, all orange gear was equal.

  7. One minute I'm a evil red eyed heartless woman of vengence, the next conversation option I'm a innocent sweet little girl with ponytails.

You don't really get to be a Sith. You should aim for a character that still supports what he's doing somewhat (saving the Galaxy and what not), even by dubious means, otherwise it will probably feel a bit awkward.

Gameplay wise I really had a blast in Hammer Station and Athiss. I think tanking isn't really supposed to be quite as clean as it was in WoW, were you build up aggro for two seconds on the whole instance until everyone just starts spamming their rotations. Things do get messy sometimes, people get hurt, but that's what makes it interesting to me. Forces DPS to think on their feet instead of letting the tank do all the hard work.

  8. Currently playing my dark side Jedi Knight as somewhat of a renegade. As in, does believe in and work for the Republic, but doesn't mind getting his hands dirty to get the job done. He's not much of a bully or a mercenary though, much to the delight of Kira. Essentially a bit like Shepard or Revan. I also enjoy teasing Satele Shan, that old stuck up bîtch :)

Only thing that really annoys me is my master, he's incredibly bland and boring. Luckily, you don't seem to interact with him much after Level 10 and mostly do your own thing.

I think the story works rather well. Problem with the Sith Warrior storyline was for me that you come across as somewhat of an arrogant, entitled prîck. Also, the Empire is obviously pretty fascist, which makes it rather hard to actually cheer for it. Probably somewhat more bearable when you go light side as a Sith, but for the most part, as cool as it is at times, I'd just rather see it burn.

  9. These folks are usually no different than the folks that spend tons of time mastering Street Fighter or Starcraft. With video games it usually is about how much time one spends with a game. It's not a actual skill if mostly anyone can do it given the time.

No matter how hard I try I could never master painting or playing the piano like a pro. NOW that is an actual skill and talent.

Careful, your ignorance is showing. It's like saying everyone could become a master at chess given enough time. They don't. Even if you invest just as much time, you'd still be limited by your intelligence. Same goes for games like Starcraft, actually much more so. A smarter player will always beat you, given the same amount of time.

Being inherently good at strategic games like Starcraft is just as much of a talent as being able to paint or being good at playing music. They are all a form of intelligence, with the first one arguably being much more applicable to real life than the latter two. And I am an illustrator and do suck at Starcraft, so no bias here.

  10. I guess the reason they kick sages from groups is because they need a healer, and probably mistook the sage for one. I don't think they would kick a sage for not being a healer if they already had one. Except if they really hate sages. They do seem kind of smug, you know.

You're obviously free to spec whatever you want. But don't complain if you don't get a spot in a group.

  11. Because I have been wanting an orange crystal for a while and every person I politely ask about in game refuses to tell me where theirs came from.

I think I got mine from an orange (as in moddable) lightsaber quest reward on Coruscant. Might have been part of the Jedi Knight storyline. Would even tell you the name of the saber, but alas, queue.

  12. The OP is right. Game mechanics wise, it makes no sense. Period. No further arguments needed.

Even lore wise, it's kind of stupid. I get that mages propably would have a hard time wearing plate armor, but that's kind of invalid in a Star Wars setting. They don't make armor out of steel any more. They're light and flexible. Try telling Luke and Han that they can't use Storm Trooper armor because they're apparently too weak.

So, either give everything to everybody, or only allow people to wear the stuff they're supposed to wear.

  13. Clipping issues, I'd think. Not really sure how close the models come together, but I can't help but wonder how bad of a clipping issue you'd have if the cloak model was too close to your ***.

I don't really buy this. The problem is only apparent when standing still. The booty pretty much vanishes as soon as you start running. And it definitely can be done without the booty while standing, because that's exactly how it looks like inside of the item preview.

I think they did it because they hate us. That's the only explanation that makes sense, really.

  14. Being afraid is a good thing. It shows that you care about your performance and will keep you on your toes during the run. I have been tanking for years now, and I'm still pretty nervous before every single run. I love it. It's thrilling :) It's also what drives me to prepare myself as best I can.

That said, you will f*ck up eventually, and people will wail on you like you just dropped their first born son. Be prepared for that, and don't let it get to you. Happens to every one. Do apologize though. If you make a mistake, own up to it and then just get on with it.

There will also be moments were you do a great job, and people will appreciate it. Tanks stand in the spot light of their groups. Do a bad job, and people will hate you for it. Do a good job, and they'll love you for it. Just make sure there are more of the latter moments than of the former :)

  15. when I think of MMO I think of one giant seamless world, or at least a world with minimal seems. SW:TOR seems more like a co-op online game.

just to use an obvious comparison, in WOW I can run my toon from one end of the continent to the other with our a loading screen

This is just not possible to do with Star Wars. For hopefully glaringly obvious reasons.

Can't just mash a couple of tents together and call it a city. Have you taken a look at Coruscant? The entire planet's a city. And I think it reasonable feels like one, when you drive through the chasms of it's sky scrapers. When I first looked out of the hangar my jaw dropped.

Not exactly the sentiment I had when I saw WoW's cities. Lordearon is freaking hamlet. It in no way resembles the metropolis it's supposed to be. I'd rather not be able to visit every nook and cranny of a city and instead have the illusion of it actually being there.

  16. It's a minor thing out while questing, but it's very annoying in quest hubs and cities. When you first get to Coruscant and have to run for 5 min to get to the upper deck of the Senate tower, that's just annoying as hell. It's like the developers were saying "Hey, we could have put everything on one deck or in the same building with lots of elevators, but instead, we locked 50 interns in a room and fed them nothing but red bull." It's impressive and very pretty, but about as convenient as having a bathroom on the roof.

This. Gosh, no wonder the Republic was so lethargic. It must have taken years for every Senator to walk to his seat.

  17. Let's just say, considering those snazzy mind tricks those Jedi sport I'd really expect a lot more of those miraculous virgin births to happen.

That said, we're not interpreting the bible here. If the EU has an established explanation for it, you might as well go with that. I dare say that the EU writers are somewhat more creative and coherent than our esteemed Mr Lucas, so I think the canon is probably in better hands with them.

  18. It really just doesn't help server balance. The French and Germans have a market that is set up to support their own languages. They are big enough just like the UK. But then more people speak English than German or French.

UK currently fills about 30 servers. Germany/Austria fills about 20 servers. Saying that other european countries can't even fill one or two servers is madness.

I don't really feel the problem myself, since people usually don't come on german servers unless they actually speak German, but I realize that this can be quite a problem for english servers, if people are unable to actually speak English.

It would be better for both the UK players and the non english speakers if the latter got their own server, where they could, you know, actually talk to each other. Probably not for every single language and country, but at least for the major ones.

  19. I think it's done to prevent clipping when the cloth moves.

Well no wonder it does, butts are pretty huge to begin with. My Jedi looks like he's been using a bicycle to get around Coruscant. Just get them down to human proportions and we hopefully won't need a metal cage beneath our robes any more to prevent our huge Jedi butts from tearing them.
