  1. Certainly missed by me! thanks for the top. Still not decided between the full 31point darkness bui,d or a 27/3/11 setup (or maybe 27/5/9, for the 50% force regen out of stealth). Anyway, I've definitely gottena better idea of what to do be doing from this thread. Thanks all, once more! Now all I have to do is actually level.
  2. Log in and read the tooltip. Or perhaps actually read the earlier discussion on this thread. At one time I had considered a build using Induction (I think it's the one linked i my original post) but based someone mentioned the same issue to me, and indeed they were right.
  3. Induction is getting nerfed next patch to only grant it's cost reduction proc when under Surging Charge. I had wanted to amke use of it as well, but that seems like it will no longer be an option by the time I get to 50 anyway. Thus you can either have energize auto-crit, or induction cost reduction, but not both. Wither, on the other hand, is getting buffed to proc harnessed shadows. The intent would seem to be to increase the incentive to fill out all 31 points in a single tree rather than hybrid it up but I guess you;'d have to ask bioware to know for sure.
  4. Hrm. fair enough. I find that AoE damage, although, technically it's "twice as much" damage on paper, and on the rankings screen, isn't nearly as helpful as a smaller increase in st damage in PvP. Sometimes you don;'t need to deal 5-10% health to everyone around, you need to kill a specific target RIGHT NOW. That said, it's hard to deny that the utility is probably worth it for so small a reduction. A completely different question - does the extra shock from Chain Shock's proc count as a second spell? So, will the chain shock proc a 2nd stack of Harnessed Darkness? have a second chance to proc Exploit Weakness? Consume a second charge of Recklesness? ECT Thanks once again!
  5. Aww, no replies? Shameless self-interested BUMP!
  6. Do you ever use it as part of a burst chain, like shock and Death Field, or is it's damage just gimpy? If it's not good enough for burst, what is ti for? just another 10m range thing to use as noted above?
  7. Maybe something like this: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rurokrskbsZbZf0c.1 I feel I'd rather ahve a 20% chance of procing ES, evne if I don't always use it when it's up, as opposed to the super-tiny (relative to total cost) reduction in cost. More awesome Whither also has teh advantage of making me a better PvE tank, I guess, if I decide to do a bunch of hard-modes one day. Part of me is absurdly reluctant to give up the extra critical damage from Claws of Decay on my main attack, but An extra instant-cast besides Shock and discharge will definitely give a higher burst, and probably more, and more reliable over-all damage (not sure how Darkness discharge rates compared to surge - less damage, obviously, but not sure how much less).
  8. Mmm, I do kinda feel like I'd rather have Wither as instant-cast ranged damage, for a burst, rather than CD, too. Especially if it really is going to count towards procing Harnessed Darkness in the near-ish future.
  9. Part of me really likes the sudden burst of the maul proc a LOT, but I hear what you're saying. If I went that root would you advise... I guess taking those 3 points and putting 2 into Dark Embrace and 1 into Claws of Decay? Or would you have another suggestion?
  10. Doesn't thrash also have a 4M range? Don't I need it to proc Energize? Also, wouldn't I normally use some kind of CC to set up maul once the proc happens (Spike, probably)? Once again, honestly curious to know what I'm missing.
  11. Makes sense. In fact, it makes a lot of sense. really will go more towards madness secondarilly. What do you think of ditching Dark Embrace and getting a point of Claws of Decay in that build? +25% thrash criticals is nothing to sneeze at, but will I be OOM before finishing off an opponent? Something like this: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rurokrskbZhZf0cMo.1? Also, about the 23/0/18 build... what am I missing about Raze? It seems BAD! Assuming my crit chance is soft capped at ~30%. And even assuming it gets up to ~40% with Eploitative strikes. That's still a 33% chance of a 40% chance, or about a 13.3% chance to activate with each swing. To me that seems REALLY bad. But lots of people rave about it in that build even more than the instant-whirlwind, and they have more experience than me. Does the proc just last forever before expiring so you can 'save' it for a big burst once you get it? Is there something I don't get? Seriously, I'm not trolling, I just don't see it. Always glad to learn though. I kinda really want Harnessed Darkness, but it's still good to understand how the build works. Thanks again!
  12. Hi! I originally posted this on the (FANTASTIC!) assasin codex thread above, but got no replies in the last 16-24 hours, so it's time to shamelessly troll for help with my own post! Be gentle - I'm a newbie! --- Hi all. so re-rolling for the 4th time (first time from level 50) I've decided I wanted to try a darkness build with duplicity. My main complaints about being a sorceress were my lack of burst damage and survivability. I was always topping the DPS tables list, but it seemed like I was never able to really bring a target down right NOW when I had to. And it always seemed like it was pathetically easy for people to kill me inside of a 2-4 second stun effect (even through 90%+ health and a bubble). So the thought of super hard hitting shocks and mauls, and the occasioanlly OMGWTFHOWDIDSHEDOTHAT harnessed Darkness/Recklessness attack appeals to me a lot. Anyhoo, enough background. The spec I came up with is based heavilly on the one posted on the front page of this guide - essentially just switching 3 points out of Deception and into Exloitative Strikes, which seems like an obvious synergy with the auto-crit shocks. here is the build: http://www.torhead.com/skill-calc#200rsrokrskbZhGbzZc.1 I've decided to post here (rather than make my own superfluous clutter thread) and ask peoples' opinions both about that change, and about the build in general? Is Harnessed Darkness worth it? Should I go for something else instead (take madness up to "Raze" perhaps, or at least claws for the +50% critical damage on Thrash?) Darkness, on paper, seems like it does less damage than deception (obviously) but not _hugely_ less, and should still put up high damage with the right gear. Is that true, or am I just being fooled by wishful thinking and/or the numbers on TORhead's class ability's list? Thanks. Any comments are appreciated!
  13. I found that with level 40-45 blue mods and some green implants (using whatever quest rewards and the merits for the last planet I was on would buy me), I had just about 24% crit chance anyway. I strongly suspect that with any amount of purple gear it would go up to the 30% soft-cap range without havign to put any special effort into it. I, myself, am very interested in the merits of soft-caping surge versus just increasing power (which effectively increases critical damage too, since a higher base, times the same multiplier gives a higher product).

  15. Thanks. I _have_ the blue gear version. I am hoping to find the orange ones before I completely outlevel them (on Alderaan now, despite being in my 30s, so tehy're about the same as the average blue gear from quests still). I guess it's not like PvE is hard. I can always stick with my level 27 blue skirt until I replace it with PvP gear at 50, LOL! Anyway, thanks for the clarification on drops. Time to farm those silver mobs!
  16. By my thread-necromancy powers!!! I have seen these things drop in the raid, and got out-rolled for them (CURSES!) but never have I seen them again. I've run the instance 8 times now, with my 32 inquisitor. Maybe I'm too high for them to drop anymore or somethign asanine like that? I don't know but I want them! Anyone have any more advice?
  17. Or a young adult. I found that the body type 1s looked like a teanager - like, 15-16ish. Particularly in as the change affects the face, making it leaner and less "filled out". At least that's how it looked, to me, as a female. Never tried the male body types yet. As I recall, Jedi "padawans" are often quite young when first sent out "in the field" with their masters, aren't they? Certainly you can join the army while still in your teens (18, in most places in the West; and heavens know there are younger combatants than that, some places in the world). I thought ti was neat having the "scrawny teanager" look. Alternatively, with the right face/complexion, you could probably use it to give the appearance of being emaciated by age, for a Wise Old Man/Woman sort of thing on your Sage/Sorcerer (or perhaps, for darksiders, a character who's constitution has been eaten away at by the dark energies they channel, like Palpatine).
  18. You'd go a little crazy too if the Emperor had been torturing you for 300 years, I guess. I do agree though, that a final showdown with revan would have made a wonderful raid boss. In fact, as a centuries old jedi Mastery-turned-Sith-Lord, legendary as one of the greatest warriors to have ever lived, with a station of Rakatan force technology to draw on is one of very few villains I can imagine being _beleivable_ as a match for more than 4 players at once, given that the Emperor himself is soloable. On the other hadn, raids are hard, and will not be done, ever, by a certain percentage of the population (myself included, probably - LOLPvE), so I guess they wanted to make the content accessible to all. given how many of us probably have fond memories of KoTOR1 I can understand that.
  19. Mmm, killing is ALWAYS the dark option, even when it is clearly against your best interests. although this may not make sense for the point of view of ethical philosophy (I.E. your intentions were still completely selfish - you're only letting them live because it gets you more than the alternative - therefore, arguably, you are still a bad person). It does, however, make a certain sense from the point of view of the force if you remmber that it i supposed to be a the energy of living things. I.E. the lightside "prefers" life because it comes from life; the dark side "prefers" death and destruction for it's own sake, regardless of your motives. This is also supported by the fact that killing even in the name of a greater good, or when you know that they are untrustworthy and will betray you and or bring harm to others if allowed to live will make you a Dark Jedi, even though your intentions may be honourable. The lightside/darkside always operate in terms of the minimum/maximum body count in the immediate situation (because, I guess, non-sentient quasi-divine cosmic forces don't have a real good grasp on things like "time" and "cause-and-effect"). I'm not a that huge a star wars fan, so I'm not 100% sure if the force is really supposed to have a "will" of it's own (though the Jedi seem to speak about it as if it does, certainly), but that's that logic always made a certain in-game sense to me, and so that's what I went with. Of course, Jedi get dinged the same amount of darkside points for making out as for stabbing younglings, while sith can get bizzy all the want without any alignment change one way or the other, so I guess some things clearly do depend on cultural context if you want to get into a really detailed analysis. All I know is I'm reasonably satisfied with my options as a Sith Inquisitor, and I feel the same has come a long way since my KoTOR1 days of kicking puppies for the sake of showing of my evilness.
  20. He was invented in a video game, so, yes, it's rather fitting that his story be resolved once and for good in (what will almost certainly be) the final instalment of the same franchise.
  21. DO they actually have purple crystals, though?> My undersntading was that the weapon comes pre-assembled, so to speak. That is, it's not a fully modable item; you can't tak ethe crystal out and give it to another wepaon of your choosing. I may be mistaken, however.
