  1. those are generic terms for certain "roles" or "jobs" that need to be achieved... you don't need the WoW type system of those being dedicated roles and done in one specific way to be the trinity...

there is dealing with damage, there is doing damage and there is preventing/restoring health... that is the trinity.. doesn't matter if one character can do it all or if one character can only do one of them.. it's the same system and in the end is played basically the same way...

and again role set-ups like GW2 and TSW use are not new... in fact they are older than the WoW style set-up... so it's still not new or an innovation...

When I think of trinity, I think of it having to be done by diff people. 1 for heals, 1 for tank, 1 for damage. I think most do, though I could be wrong. Hence, no more trinity.

How would one make a game where you didnt take or recieve damage?

  2. ah so the problem is that you have no understanding of the trinity at all... well now it all makes sense

I'm sorry. Please educate me. I thought it referred to you having a tank, a healer, and dps? Maybe that is the root of our whole disagreement.

edit. I do agree with you that TSW( a beta im also in) is also doing work to get away from the trinity. Actually trying to do something new. Granted, apparently my understanding of the trinity is flawed, according to you. I personally just like GW2 better. A matter of taste. Ill give them both credit for actual innovation, like TOR was supposed to have.

  3. no... it's a different set up but it's not new and all the rolls are still there... damage mitigation, healing and damage (the trinity) are all still in full swing just in a slightly different format... it's nothing that hasn't been done before

it's like you people want to believe it is new and revolutionary so bad you completely ignore reality

You have to be trolling. There is no way you are that willfully ignorant. There is no damage mit role..... there is no healing role.....everybody does damage, and heals themselves...... boss mobs just bounce agro around most the time, so no tanks. Like I said, have to be trolling, nobody is that special.

edit.. oops, sorry. caught your edit in my quote. edit faster!

  4. been in the beta... so no your fooling yourself and buying into the marketing spin... which is fine those developers need to get paid after all

lol, Ive been in beta too. For a while. You are not special..... I dont group, but I spend more time playing with other people than I ever have before, because I dont need to be grouped to share in all rewards. Another thing that is evolving. People help you out more on that game than Ive ever seen. There is no race for a node or a mob. I also play a melee dps that needs absolutely zero healing from another player. And there are no tanks.... odd. I guess there is not a trinity after all? If you play beta and think you need heals, then you are just not playing right, and need to learn the new style. You cant stand still and spam anymore.

I dont buy spin, I play and make my own opinions. Sorry mine differ from yours, I guess that means Im just ignorant.

  5. uhh GW2 has the same exact roles as any trinity game just instead of dedicated to single players they are spread out a little... that is not new to gaming, it's not revolutionary, it requiers no more skill nor does it promote more cooperative play... in fact it discourages it more than the trinity since it's more solo friendly if done right... not to mention in GW2 it's done rather crappily because you're still basically locked into a set role... The Secret World does it much better with a lot more freedom of choice but at the end of the day even there all the same roles are being filled ... the trinity is still there just distributed differently

    still same **** different game

Wow, you could not be more wrong.

  6. so the interview in pc gamer issue 241 july, page 60-61 with the interview with mike obrien is also ill informed, who knew that, the ceo of areanet is illinformed, either way, i dropped this about 10 pages back, i couldnt give a flying coot about gw2, i just think its wierd that all articles about swtor are aparently true but all ones about gw2 are aparently wrong. odd. so like you say back to swtor i shall not reply to bla bla gw2 comment again so asking me about it will just show you cannot read.

Is English not your main language? I'm assuming not, because you have serious issues with reading comprehension. And you will keep responding to GW2 stuff, because you cant stand that something is better than your shiny, and you deep down know it. Even to the point of spreading misinformation. At least I hope you are purposely spreading false info, or that means you just don't get it, and that is sad. Special kind of sad.

I like the touch of, "I know Im wrong, so Im just not going to discuss it anymore. Im taking my toys and going home."

  7. I do not understand the need for everyone to think GW2 is so hot. I had hopes for that game and even bought 2 huge CEs for it. Until I played betas over 2 weekends and was appalled by the gameplay. All I will say is in theory the NO HOLY TRINITY sounded good, till I played it. All it did was make the game feel sloppy and classes pointless. Alot of people saying that it makes grouping almost impossible because now no one knows or has their roles to play.

The people who want trinity need to evolve. Its a dead system. "Oh noes, im responsible for my self and have to actually l2p and not be carried." Those are the people who wont like it. And I have yet to see anybody complaining about roles or grouping. It works amazingly. Are these complaints in your head? There is far FAR more cooperative play and community feeling there than any other game, ever. Because they made it about cooperation, not competition.

I love how an MMO comes along that actually DOES take MMOs to the next level, evoles some, and then people complain that its not their same hand holding game.

  8. http://uk.pc.ign.com/articles/122/1221286p1.html read this

what were we saying, ow yes, what else is there to worry about, MoP by the time that thing comes out god knows how many people will have played it already due to free access to beta when they bought the AP and got d3 for free, black market selling bis items. should we worry, not really.

You are very ill informed. Stop quoting articles. Everybody here knows those can be as flawed as any rumor. Get your info of the main page or not at all. It is in no way P2W. Gear comes from karma, a non purchasable non trad-able currency. The only things you can buy with gems/gold is cosmetics and convenience. You can even buy gems with in game gold if there is a silly cosmetic item you want but don't believe in buying with RL money. Stop spreading misinformation and educate yourself.

    Now, back on topic......

  9. Yes, thats exactly what it means when a planned subscription based MMO forced to go F2P. And lets be honest, if TOR goes 100% F2P, its because it was forced to. The original model had TOR receiving monthly subs for a number of years at a certain population rate! Which its clearly not hitting.

TOR is indeed in trouble. Like every other MMO since WOW that used the fast and easy and sloppy model, they have failled to retain the majority share of their subscribers.

That doesnt mean TOR is a terrible game, just a poorly thought out one.

TOR hits the mark on a number of items but failed to learn about the industry enough to understand what is required in all MMOs (in TOR case it lacks social content and community building content. Concepts that can be acheived through a variety of meathods, yet TOR failled to impliment any of them).

Honestly I think its safe to say TOR has been a grand disappointment as a MMO.

Not a failure quite yet, but they are hoovering in that area and the immediate future is very important to their long term ranking as bust or break even release (Its pretty clear success and massive success rankings passed them by now).

Its a real shame to. Back in Oct 08 when this game was announced, I had visions of such grandeur for this game and its pretty much come up short in every area but storyline. But even with storyline, they rush you through it so fast its also not all it could have been.

At this point in time Im just hoping the industry has learned finally the WOW design of fast, easy, sloppy doesnt work for long term subscription retention. But I said same thing after Rift when the model was clearly not working for them long term wise. So who knows if companies learning and getting the message yet?

This is a very well thought out and written post. I agree 100%. At this point the best TOR can hope to do is stay alive and have enough subs to be mildly profitable. This game had so much potential, all squandered.

  10. I think it's less indicative of a core problem with the game and more indicative to a core problem wit the player base, no matter what you do there will be 20 threads the next day with people leaving.

Head, I would like to introduce you to my friend Mr. sand.

  11. Is the game in trouble?

I don't give a damn - it is just a game. I am enjoying it as of now and will keep my sub until I get bored. When that happens I will quietly click the unsub button. I will not come kicking and screaming like so many others and try to justify my actions to total strangers. Seriously, those who have time to post here - that game is doomed if it does not adopt "their" awesome ideas - should get a life. Who cares if they dont like the game? Not I.

This shows how far in the sand your head is. This is an MMO. If everybody leaves but you, you have no game. You should definitely care what other people think and what is pushing them away. Less subs = less game for you.

Seems like common sense, but then again, I am constantly amazed at how uncommon some sense is.

  12. This is really amazing. I have seen a ton of people saying this was the last straw, they are gone. Then there are the classic people saying "can i haz ur stuffs", being too ignorant to realize this many people leaving for a reason is indicative of a core problem with their beloved game, and it wont be around long even for the fanboys if it keeps hemorrhaging subscriptions. And yet not a peep from Bioware. Have they actually packed it in and given up? All it seems they do is make pretty videos promising new shiny stuff(that will be pushed back and full of bugs), and erase threads critical of them, while they ignore these huge issues.
  13. This game is in way more trouble than will be admitted. Many people are just riding out their subs/free time and then they are gone. At least that is the case with 75% of my guild. In the next 2-3 months there will be another big drop in subscriptions.

This game had so much potential. More than any game before, in my opinion. It has just been horribly, HORRIBLY, mismanaged. Every seemingly simple thing has turned into a major debacle. Even the server transfers(in reality mergers), were so mismanaged, it cost them a great deal of subscriptions. If you don't know what I'm talking about, get your head out of the sand.

  14. Hate o say it but everytime i hear about something the devs are trying to do . I get a picture in my head of a room full of chimpanzee's banging on keyboards while screaming at a bananna and flinging poo.

This is now in my head as well. It pretty accurately describes them I think. Every seemingly minor thing turns into a complete debacle. Where did they get these people?

  15. There is no realdebate.

An ID that was tied to account and server (rather than name and server), allowing duplicate names on a server, would be a much better system with no real drawbacks.

Of course, that isn't the system we have....... we have the archaic name on server ID which dates back to the beginnings of MUDs. :(

Your last sentence just described every system in the game. Oh, except fully voiced npcs!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That makes up for everything.

  16. I lost my main char name which has about 30 days invested playtime to a lvl14 char. Lost one alt name too.

The real thing about this whole char renaming issue is not the fact that you had to rename some or all of your chars, its another thing which in fact makes me really upset.

This "free char transfer" service is de iure (legally) a voluntary service, but de facto (effectively) a mandatory thing. Mandatory because you couldnt play the game in a proper way even before the transfers (due to messed up management decisions by BW), but after the transfers there definitely is no way to play this MMO as a massively multiplayer game on an abandoned server. So if you think of this whole transfer as a mandatory service where in fact some kind of super servers are created, then this "free char transfer" service is effectively a SERVER MERGE.

Now the problem with letting this be named a char transfer service by the PR department caused a much bigger issue than just trying to deceive the community, it in fact led to it that BW - at least from a legal pov - had not to implement a char renaming policy because "its a player's free decision to transfer and lose his beloved name". Under renaming policy i mean some simple rules which ensure that someone with over 1 month playtime on a char doesnt have to lose his name because of another char with some hours of playtime or even a totally abandoned 5-6th alt char of someone, which is just not fair.

If this had been called a SERVER MERGE service, than there would have been no way to avoid the implementation of a renaming policy.

So for me thats the real issue about this whole renaming debate. I personally am deeply frustrated and disappointed by the way BW handled this whole issue with a simple "first come first serve" rule. This would be fine if this whole transfer thing wouldnt have been mandatory (de facto)... BW could have made this work, but they decided to not care about names, in a game where its all about "personal" story and becoming attached to your char...

I probably cancel my sub and look for another game which hopefully honors day 1 players more than BW does. Cancel not only due to the above issue but because of the way BW and their PR department try to sell us for fools for over 5 months.

Very well said. Agree 100% Does Bioware care? Will they ever address this? Id wager not.

  17. Quite honestly, the game has never been better. The transfers fixed all the problems I had with the game. We have tons of people online, people shouting for groups and PvP is always on. Its great!

The dead servers were a symptom, not the problem. It will keep bleeding subs, until they fix the problem.

  18. You are going to flame and QQ so loudly about this game sucking and you have never been past "around lvl 20" ? are you frikkin serious? How can you think that your opinion carries any weight. I have several 50s and love the "Grind"

Not very strong on the reading comprehension are you? A little special perhaps?

  19. Not sure if serious. You have to be joking. Right?

Swtor is a carbon copy of past MMO's. I'm not even going to bother to list why either.

I have to agree with you. Same old system, that I think is just worn out for me. He has found a way to enjoy it, so good for him.

I have played in a few betas for a new game that is actually different, and I find myself excited again. It is more of what I had hopes of TOR being. I will not name it, as I am not here to shill for it.

  20. SO all of the people tearing apart everything to do with this game, why exactly are you here posting? got nothing better to do in life?

Why are you here bashing peoples rl just because they have differing opinions of a game than you? Nothing better to do IN GAME?

  21. The quests don't really feel the same. Almost every NPC has a host of different dialogue lines depending on your character's gender or class, and whether or not you are in a group.

Also, don't level up two Empire or two Republic characters in a row. Switch sides after each alt to keep it fresh.

This is actually a good idea, and a much better reply than the usual fanboy "if you dont like it just like me then ****". Hats off to you sir.
