I'm all for f2p.
Bring em in. More players, more revenue, let me purchase items I want.
The other F2P mmo's I've played (STO, CO, LotRO) have all been great.
F2P is the way of the future.
Someone can't afford the fee.

If they are looking at it enough to where a designer is telling this to IGN, that implies they are giving it rather serious consideration.
Yep and that is close enough for me to consider not buying another card and just waiting to it goes f2p instead of putting more money in to the game.

That's all I needed to see and all that should be seen. The rest of what you say in general is useless speculation. Hell EA's other mmos didn't go f2p I'm not sure why they'd let swtor do that. Carry on trolling though, it's quite amusing.

I dont understand, One level 50 fp? Swtor has 2 or 3 normal mode level 50 fps and 5 or more level 50 hm fps, 3 ops and more on the way. thats as much or more than what wow had when i went back and played cata at release. And if bw keeps up with the same pace of releasing content they will even pass Rift and leave Wow in the dust.
Seriously who cares about "cata" L2spell by the way.
This isn't wow of 2004, 2008, or 2012. This is swtor and it doesn't matter what any game has or had and sure won't help the help the game in anyway apparently so let's forget about every other game and concentrate on this one hmm? But yeah there is content, 3 ops now and another one that is coming plus another pvp arena mixed with ranked wz. Seriously is a shame for the game to be doing this bad with that much content in 6 months. -

I'm a pretty harsh critic of this game, and have very little interest in playing once my 6 month is up, so don't confuse me with some fanboy grasping at straws.
I call it like I see it, and in this case, I see an interview with someone talking about options for people to play for free "someday" like WoW has. Not once does he even hint at things like in game cash shops where you have to pay to access quests or whatever. He's talking about making the game more accessible to people who haven't tried it yet, not changing the whole business model.
At any rate, by the time Bioware ever gets around to implementing anything resembling actual F2P stuff beyond a trial period, I expect to be long gone from this game.
It wouldn't be an issue at all to anyone if it did go that way. But with the last 6 months on how the game did and now with the mejor server merges indicating how bad the game has done I wouldn't really hold on to too much hope of that idea. I was actually considering heavily of getting another pre paid card for my account when it expires in August but with this I am not sure at all. I am not sinking any more money in to a game that eventually will be f2p. If it's just 15 free levels I don't care at all but I am doubting it will just be that due to how the game is doing. Same here though, the moment I hear it's more than a trial I am done. Strange to say such things huh? But I rather being on a paying game than a f2p due to a number of reasons.

You could and that's very nice. But I am actually hoping it doesn't because of the money I already sunk in to this game. Why I am having a good laugh though is because all of the fanboys that claimed how good the game is doing or how amazingly successful it's done already will be very amusing when the f2p happens.

Their idea of F2P is a bit different than what everyone here is claiming doom and gloom over. In fact, the entire source article is more about wanting to give players ways of trying the game out first though things like the free trial (level 1-15 being free). That's hardly F2P.

I didn't. For once I been saying for months how horrible the game is doing ans has gotten which is all true. Aka major server merges. Anyone could easily tell how horrible the game was doing unless you were a blind fanboy. But yeah mmo champ has on a number of times posted accurate information on games very early.

All I can say is, those "sub numbers" of yours are extremely inaccurate. Sure they may be more active subs on WoW but %90 of its players are people like me stuck with annual pass for Diablo 3 and never get into game.
Real story : I logged in after a decade, I play at Argent Dawn, most populated RP server ever and it took 2, yes 2 ******* HOURS to gather a group as a goshdarn TANK. I am capable of doing 4-5 dungeons in SWTOR at that amount of time by screaming at general chat. This is my experience, and I cant give any less damn about sub numbers from now on. Go try it yourself. Not even mentioning that I puked my insides out of boredom leveling an alt gnome warlock to lvl 15 then quit. There are few players around than people think.
So much for world's "most crowded and populated" online game. %100 False advertisement is all.
Now was this before or after the server merge? Was this on another server than fatman? And is this story taking place before the game became morbidly dead that BW was forced to do a mega server transfer? lol. Because I remember one night a guild member spending 2, yes, 2 hrs+
looking for a group to do one flash point. I been there many times so I would love to know how on any server than fatman before the server transfer could anything be done since every server was rated low even at prime time. -
Maybe you meant tin... if so maybe avoid use with excessive heat....

To be honest:
SW:TOR would never, never in the world hold 500.000 subs - so F2P ist their only real chance.
Maybe a Freemium-model like HdRO or Aion, but as a P2P game SW:TOR has failed.
What the actual shame is that BW has given a lot. Free time, a good amount of content in 6 months. Some of it should of been there since day but since the game came out way too early and this community is a bunch of impatient *****
the game is dying badly no matter what the company tries to do for the game. It's not a bad game at all but this is what you get when you have these people for a community. -

Completely agree with you. My account expires in august so I will leave it be since gamestop has my money already but I definitely will not buy another prepaid card for a game that will just given out in time for free.

F2P is the future of mmos that don't have a lot of subs. Many F2P also have p2p, more open access. It really depends on the game.

Told you back in January after playing this for a week that it would be F2P within a year, you all laughed and abused me so can I just say...I TOLD YOU SO!
F2P won't save it though, a bad game is a bad game and people simply won't play it. Lets be honest here, when every PvP server is transferring the players into ONE PvP server and even then the server is not full
This is a game in total meltdown.lol I have called it too. But the fanboys keep saying still that the game is doing amazing and is very successful, lolol..
You got to see how upset they get on darth hater but I am sure they will still ignore this, the major server transfers, the countless missing subs, and everything else and say this game is still doing extremely good, lol.. I remember when the tards used to get upset alone just for saying the server I was on was dying and would use the BS excuse oh it's the time that's why no one is on.

if there are 600 per side just on the fleet thats 1200 players just on the fleets at prime time, never mind off time or anywhere else in the game world, thats equal to an old wow battlegroup. how many battlegroups did wow have. Bear in mind these are the numbers after just 6 months and before any of the features people have left until they come in have arrived.
Like I said. I liked the numbers a lot, it was great to see. But it's not like that was subs coming back to get all excited for it. It's just the same people all crushed together now in one place. I am hoping with this and patch 1.3 that more subs will come in because I don't want this game going f2p but I have always had that concern as this game began to die off at a fast rate. Which is a shame actually because BW has given so much over these 6 months including extra time to play, patches very often, a good amount of content in 6 months.

You do realise that they have upped the numbers able to play on servers, didnt you notice how you dont have to q or lag even when there is 600 on your side on the fleet never mind the rest of the server or other side. They have basically made what was in wow battlegroups on swtor a server.
Kid yourself all you want but if you think its so bad how come your still here and not on wow or another mmo or game.
600 people spells a massively successful game to you? LOL well damn, then the free to play is not needed at all. Kid your self all you want but just because every player that's left over in one server doesn't spell a successful game at all. I mean I love it, don't get me wrong. With the game dying so badly it is nice to see people for once and I hope so much it can continue to be a p2p game with more people coming back. I am here because I wanted to play, why else would I be here? And because of that I should be a blinded fanboy like you people?

lol definitely thinking of holding after my time expires for the game to go free to play. I was already thinking of it with how the game is dying so badly they had to merge every server and not just a few and the many many other signs of how bad the game is doing. Don't see the point in supporting a game that will go free to play in time so it would be a better idea to wait it out. And for the false hope of it just the 15 levels, yeah... let's keep saying that's all it will be, lol.

I really don't get at all what you people are crying about but then again what's new ? You do know the transfer is optional right? So stay on your morbidly dead server and enjoy your 20+ people at prime time because according to the fanboys this game is doing amazingly well, lol. I don't see how it can be worse than playing on a server that is so dead you are the only one on a planet but I am sure you people got some good excuses as usual.

Tell him L2read then. Why would anyone with common sense wanna join a server that is rated light ? Unless they purposely wanna be on a dead server I see no reason why they would go to one.

It's not doing a very good job of keeping the "merger" word out of the headlines, because I'm seeing it all over the damn place.
Lets not kid ourselves, these are, at best, "soft" merges. The perception, and reality, of this is going to be that the game is struggling and downsizing to maintain profits and minimize their losses. You can't really view it in too many ways without having to fool yourself.
Oh you didn't just say that. To the die hard fanboys of this game it's doing "amazingly well". No way at all is the game dying or losing anything. Big deal it lost ONLY 400k+ people in a matter of what, 2 months ? Oh that's nothing to them. servers are all empty except one or two. Big deallll to them. Let's shrug that number off because we got millions and millions of subs right? Server mergers, massive server transfers, whatever people wanna call them happening. A good way to access it? You walk in to and begin, how much simpler do you need to it be? Just say in plain words you're too lazy to walk in a game to a fp and need the lfg tool.
