  1. I understand that completely. But all I see are hates and flames just because some one does not pay a subscription any time they try and speak up for them self. back when I was FTP and preferred I relayed on the Commendation gear merchants and the standard gear merchants for gear till I was around level 50. When I was able to stop and gain a flow of income. Even then I still relayed on them allot for cosmetic looks because if I want to get something cool off the market i have to pay 100-300k which was most if not all my credits at the time. when i could just go to a basic gear or a commendation gear merchant and buy some good looking to decent times for repetitively cheap to almost nothing.

But the way it is. Subs will get 5 new things. A preferred and FTP will have something taken away. I know if I say its not fair to them people will just ***** and whine and say they should subscribe. But the point is. Its not about getting something new. its about keeping what little they have.

I've been reading your posts throughout this thread and the one thing you seem to reiterate is that Free-to-Play and Preferred players are being short-changed as a result of this new expansion (which, by the way, happens to be really fun). I think you're doing a good thing by trying to advocate for all those players who can't afford a subscription, but please try to keep things in perspective and be patient. This is a new expansion and the development team is currently shifting some major things around in order to continue in this new direction. Some players will be more deeply affected by this than others, but as the devs continue to get these changes dialed in they will be reading the forums and addressing these issues just as they always have. So, again. Patience. You seem to want to champion the plight of a bunch of broke gamers by speaking about this as if they are being persecuted. I honestly don't think it needs to go that deep. Some things got taken away, but there will be other things that will take its place.

  2. Wow spoken like a true Sith, I completely agree. I too am a Dark Council member and now some random riffraf on a planet I conquered, long before attaining the rest of my power, is able to beat me if I group too many? One part that made the game fun is going back to other planets and seeing how much stronger you had become, feeling like the legend that you had become, now I may as well be any other soldier and not a main character.

    Bioware,

You had given us something very few games have done in the past and make us all care about and love our characters with the freedom of choice and customization, playing in the wonderful star wars universe that you had made. It made the game feel alive, and as your game expanded it allowed us to also make our characters grow and feel more and more apart of the lore and legend you had created. We became just as powerful as the lore and game had intended us to become, now its almost taken a step back with it. In the Star Wars universe some few rise to such power that they can destroy armies and we could just a week ago, now everyone in this universe seems just a bit weaker than me, from weak and feeble slaves, weak creatures to the Darths, and Emporer, and Heros and Villians of legend. How in anyway does that make sense, and so far Bioware has done an amazing job of mixing lore with features. Again this feels like a step back and limiting the growth and advancement we have all worked so hard for in the past.

There are many other reasons besides this, and we have discussed it at length here: http://www.swtor.com/community/showthread.php?t=843192

I believe this feature should be optional and changed through your preferences menu under social. If you believe this would be a good equal medium and still allow people to take advantage of certain perks of being scaled, leave a comment saying so.

    Thank you.

This post was a bit too melodramatic, but I read your link about people having a problem with the new Level Sync feature and understand the frustration to a certain degree. I tend to prefer solo playing as well and can appreciate the desire to simply run through lower level Heroics and bosses without the hassle of scrounging up a group of strangers. If they can find a fair and balanced way to incorporate an optional Level Sync, I think that is a fair request. One nice thing about MMORPGs is that they are in a constant state of evolution. If something ends up not panning out the way it was intended then there is a good chance the developers will change it sometime down the line. For now, this expansion is brand new and I think it will take some time for people to adjust and start to get a better understanding for how things work.

I am absolutely loving this expansion so far. I have only played the 1st chapter but I found it to be super fun, exciting and very intriguing. I am deliberately taking my time so I can further appreciate all the detail and nuance they put into this. The overall tone is something I have never seen from this MMO before and I am really delighted to be experiencing such wonderfully crafted story. That being said, I don't sweat the minor stuff. Level Sync isn't a big deal to me. I'll take a great, memorable story any day over mindlessly insta-killing low level enemies.

  3. Your damn right my horse is high, and at least I have the balls to admit that. Instead of coming on here and trying to sensor somebody in an open forum. The difference between him and I and even you is I realize you are entitled to your opinion. Do you see what I just did there?

Yes. I saw exactly what you did. You mistakenly used the word "sensor" when you should have used the word "censor" while attempting to make yourself sound intelligent. I suggest you get off your high horse and scale down to a pony.

  4. I think most good pilots are flying either Shadowlands, Harbinger, or Red Eclipse these days.

Even if what you're saying is true, I think it is important not to dismiss the talent that still exists on other servers. What I'm noticing from some of the posts I've read on this forum is that there is a very small percentage of people who post here thinking their opinion is gospel. They are perfectly entitled to do so, but it can sometimes be misleading and inaccurate. I fly primarily on Begeren Colony and there are still many great pilots that fly there. I've also flown on Bastion, Ebon Hawk and Harbinger. My experience is that each server is a mixed bag depending on time and day of the week (as usual), but that "most good pilots" can still be found flying on every server.

  5. Let it go. A popularity contest by another name is still a popularity contest.

Folks know who they respect, fear, or intend to keep an eye on from server to server.

The fact this thread is going into its 75th page means it's obviously a topic that still intrigues people, which is why I even bothered to post in the first place. Considering the chronically unpopular state of GSF, what I was suggesting is that maybe it could benefit from a few "popularity contests" every once in a while, especially if they had a bit of structure to them.

If you disapprove of the term "ace" you are not alone. I've had my share of chuckles and/or eye-rolling whenever someone pops into GSF chat asking, "Any Aces wanna group up?". As corny as that sounds to me I also acknowledge that it's very natural for people in any hobby-based community to have aspirations of distinguishing themselves and receiving accolades from their peers. Considering Bioware has a Ranked PvP leaderboard posted right on their home page, is it really that far-fetched that the GSF community wish for something comparable?

If "ace" sounds too overblown, I'd be happy to refer to it simply as "Distinguished Pilots" instead, but most people prefer simplicity in their lives, so I imagine "Ace" will probably win in the semantics debate. It's easier to spell.

  6. This thread has become far too convoluted since its inception. I have a suggestion, though I'm sure this has been discussed already, but I simply don't have the energy to spend hours sifting through 74 pages of posts.

My suggestion would be to retire this thread and start anew with something more structured and a bit more relevant. It would require regular maintenance by keeping a monthly tally of pilots whom others would nominate for such a prestigious acknowledgement. Perhaps, in order to qualify for an "Ace-of-the-Month" position it would require either some simple voting system or a general consensus by everyone participating in the discussion. It would then be the Moderator's responsibility to finalize the list and post their names at the top of the thread for convenient viewing. A new listing would then commence for the next month. Perhaps, at the end of the year, all the "Ace" pilots for each month would then be featured on a final post (eg. "GSF Ace Pilots for 2015") . This would provide a snapshot of Ace pilots both past and present. These acknowledgements could then be archived while the monthly listings get reset for the next year.

It has been my experience that the veteran GSF community tends to be very detail oriented and I have no doubt that there are plenty of thoughtful posts already out there broaching the subject of "ace" pilots and plenty of suggestions on how to best classify and acknowledge them. It begs the question:

    What constitutes an "ace" pilot?

Is it a pilot who farms rookies in his gunship simply to pad his numbers? Is it a pilot who has mastered every nuance of their T2 scout but scoffs at the notion of mastering other ships? Is it a pilot who frantically keeps a swarm of enemies from capping a satellite by skillful maneuvering for an entire match despite never having scored a single kill and ranking at the bottom of the scoreboard? Is it a pilot who prioritizes the practice of good sportsmanship regardless of whether or not they are winning the objective?

Maybe there should be an annual GSF Awards that recognizes pilots who have distinguished themselves in a multitude of categories:

    Best Scout Pilot

    Best Gunship Pilot

    Best Strike Fighter Pilot

    Best Bomber Pilot

    Best All-Around Pilot

    Best Team Player

    Best GSF Guild

    Best Independent Pilot

This is a general idea and there could obviously be additional categories with more sub-divisions (such as best ship class with their respective tiers). Additionally, each server could have its own designated thread rather than tangling all the servers together. It would enable GSF enthusiasts to peek into each server and see the ebb and flow of whatever talent happens to be flying for that month.

  7. Hey gang,

As a conscientious player who wishes to see GSF's popularity (and accessibility) expand I think the established practice of enabling a rookie team to control a satellite works just fine. The alternative suggestion of capping, relinquishing and retaking a satellite may be more beneficial but it requires too many steps. Only a team that is experienced and savvy enough to fly with that level of discretion and coordination would be capable of pulling it off with any consistency. Parameters like that make it far more specific to just a handful of players working in concert as opposed to some kind of universally accepted custom that spans multiple servers.

Here's a radical idea: If veteran players truly wish to improve the quality of GSF all they need to do is stop queuing and allow a new generation of players to enter the arena on a clean slate!

I hope most of you can find the humor and irony in that statement. While I may be joking, sometimes I wonder if our fanatical passion and dedication to GSF might very well be stunting new players from experiencing the joy and independence of discovering what this game has to offer on their own terms. My hunch is that 1 out of every 15 or 20 people who try GSF might actually like it enough to stick around.

Based off of what I've read so far it sounds like the majority of people here care about the morale of the community and the future of GSF, which is encouraging. I think it is a testament to the brilliant design of this mini game that it has such a strong and loyal cult following despite this prolonged period of neglect from the developers. My hope is that GSF will eventually move its way back up their list of priorities again sometime after the next expansion.

In the meantime, I would like to add one more suggestion for those seeking a new outlet to up their game. If you are in a blowout match and are looking for an effective way to close the gap between you and some hapless rookie, try flying without your combat HUD by pressing “ALT Z”. No radar, no access to secondary weapons, engine or co-pilot abilities, no convenient target reticles to assist you. All you have is a basic target cursor for your ship blasters and an unobstructed view of your ship with only visual scanning as your means of finding other ships. I challenge everyone to give it a try at least once.

    Begeren Colony

P.S. For the record I am dispelling Monumenta's insinuation that the GSF environment on Begeren Colony is “toxic”. Like most servers it has its share of bad apples but there happen to be plenty of talented and fair-minded people who fly there that make the majority. The only thing I've been finding toxic so far is Monumenta's warped rationale.

  8. I rarely post to the forums, mainly because I haven't gotten into the practice of doing so, but since I'm here I'd like to share my thoughts on some of the previous posts and GSF in general.

Despon's posts on the matter express my thoughts almost to the letter. As a veteran pilot who has been enjoying GSF since launch I couldn't articulate it any better. Thank you, Despon.

It has become very fashionable for a lot of self-proclaimed "aces" to disregard Strike Fighters, citing their inability to "compete with the meta". While there are some valid arguments out there Strike Fighters can be quite devastating in the hands of a skilled pilot. They are rugged, versatile ships with an impressive range of weapon capabilities. When the devs put out the question about what can be done to improve the strike fighter I came to the realization that there was never anything wrong with them in the first place. They are the median ship--the balance--in GSF, upon which all other ship classes are based from.

To all the players who have decried gunships, bombers and T2 scouts in all their incarnations as having broken the game it sounds to me like what you're really looking for out of Galactic Star Fighter is something more akin to Galactic STRIKE Fighter--the one ship class that so many arrogant braggarts swear is "useless".

The genius and beauty of GSF is that, despite its complicated and oftentimes painful learning curve, it is a remarkably well-designed and thought-out mini game. The more a new player delves into its intricacies the more they will realize that and appreciate its design, and further appreciate the role each ship class plays within that design. It is complex in its simplicity. It is great fun, fast-paced and engages the player in a way that is completely unique from the rest of SWTOR.

In regards to the common complaints concerning gunships and burst scouts I highly recommend simply learning to fly them and incorporating them into your line up. Regard each star fighter as a specialized tool there to help you best counter whatever the opposition has in its ranks. If you are flustered because you see 4 or 5 gunships, jump into one of your own and help even out the odds. Some people choose to exclusively fly certain types of ships based on their philosophical belief. I'm not one of them. I may have my preferences but I keep a variety of ships in my arsenal to adapt to whatever is needed for the situation at hand. I think adaptability is an integral part to playing the game.

  9. 1) FLYING MOUNTS No doubt this would present an enormous challenge for the developers to implement but I think flying mounts ranging from exotic winged beasts to speeder craft and star fighters would be glorious and add a new element of fun and freedom to the game.

    2) GROUP MOUNTS Special mounts that give players the option to take additional passengers would be awesome and add a new element of social fun to the game. Perhaps there could be mounts that could accommodate 2 passengers and others that could carry a maximum of 4. A speeder bike with an extra seat or sidecar or a larger speeder to shuttle a full group to their next Heroic 4, World Boss, Operation or Flashpoint, etc.

    3) COMPANION MOUNTS For a long time I have been wanting the satisfaction of seeing a mount that showed your companion riding along. It adds to the enjoyment of playing to not see your companions magically poof in and out of existence whenever I mount up. Perhaps if a 2-person speeder was made to accommodate another player it could also accommodate a companion whenever the player is flying solo.

    4) RESOLVE THE CLIPPING ISSUE It's very annoying whenever player outfits clip through a mount. It looks very silly seeing a flap of robe poking through the bottom of a speeder.

    5) DECORATIONS Since we're on the subject of mounts it would be nice to see some decorations like a multi stall garage for speeders or a multi-pen stable for beasts. Just a thought.

  10. This is among the most thoughtful and constructive posts I have read regarding the 4-limit stronghold dilemma.

I absolutely agree with everything Jedi Boadicea says here and am relieved to know that there are other players who are able to express our concerns and frustrations so concisely.

I have absolutely no desire to invest more precious time and hard-earned credits and Cartel Coins to unlock a 5th stronghold if it means having to erase all the effort and energy put into my existing strongholds.

If the developers can't find a way to work around the limit of 4 strongholds then they need to find a way to give us an option to SAVE our current layouts!!!

  11. This is an extremely great suggestion and seems like it would be a fair compromise to this 4-limit stronghold dilemma. I am an avid stronghold enthusiast and the notion of having to ERASE all the time, money and effort I spent decorating a stronghold in order to make room for another is just unacceptable to me. I get enjoyment out of decorating strongholds and consequently put great thought and care into my arrangements. If there is some technical difficulties in having more than 4 strongholds active then Ideally I would love for there to be a SAVE function so that if players have to deactivate one they can save the positioning and decorations to a preset and instantly recall them whenever the stronghold is reactivated.

If I had to compromise something in order to allow for players not to have to deal with this 4 stronghold limitation then I think JediBoadicea's suggestion of giving players the option to swap out a key ring slot in exchange for an additional active SH is the way to go.

  12. Signed!

I truly believe that a story of any kind does not simply improve by trying to make everything epic and grandiose. There is a danger of losing your audience when attempting that approach over and over again simply because it starts to become repetitive, which ultimately diminishes the intention of the "epic story" approach. Saving the galaxy defeating the mega-sized doomsday robot, or malevolent space monster, or conniving Sith Lord or traitorous Republic Commander is all great epic fun, but what I would truly be more interested in experiencing in this game is more class-specific story. When a player is engaged in a mission that has that vital personal touch, it draws them in much, much deeper than another massive epic boss fight.

This is an intelligent and sophisticated MMO and it attracts the minds and imaginations of intelligent, sophisticated people. I would love to see a game expansion that gets back to the heart and soul of the heroic characters we play. If Bioware simply doesn't have it in their budget to produce an expansion that continues the personal stories for all 8 classes, at least they could come up with a compromise and simply include more class-specific cut scenes interwoven with whatever universal story arc they have going.

I would especially love to see more content for companion stories including a continuation of companion romances. For those players who romanced their companions, I think it would be very fun and very intriguing to see what would be in store next for the newly-wedded character and his/her companion. I would love to see Bioware be bold and ground-breaking in this genre by addressing things like the Jedi Knight and his romance with Kira (or her romance with Doc). Or the struggles a Sith Warrior would have trying to relate to feisty Vette or the Imperial Agent and his complicated affair with Kaliyo, etc. Themes of love, hardship, sacrifice, heroism are all great tools to keep players coming back for more. The real key is to give all these stories that extremely important personal touch, and that is largely accomplished by going back and focusing on the individual hero rather than lumping them into a mass of "living legends" all waiting in line to tackle the next epic threat to the galaxy.
