  1. I RE'ed 220 top-level blues to learn 3 purple recipes (already had 1, took somewhere between 20~40 to learn it). Every 20 (on average, not *exactly* 20) crafts gave me a "try" at a purple recipe, so 8/11 times I got "you already know that". Bad luck, but it could be worse.
  2. It's been pointed out in this very thread, actually. I am a tank who learned first the General's (+Presence) T2 prefix of Redoubt Hyperaccelerated Shield Generator, and after that I started counting how many attempts I had made to learn the one I really wanted (Veracity). In the end, I've learned all T2 prefixes for the Redoubt path, finishing with Veracity on attempt #220, but it was over 160 before I even learned my second T2 prefix, the rest resulting in "You have already learned that schematic." So, yes, it's an incredibly harsh mechanic, because that's 1320 Primeval Artifact Fragments, 880 Upari Crystals, 880 Lorrdian Gemstones (blue Mission crewskill item), 440 Cortosis Substrates, minus the few you get back for the Reverse Engineering itself, of course. If any good news can come of it, it's that I quite reliably saw a "try" (either a learn or an "already learned" message) every 20 attempts, for a 5% T2 learn rate. Now, this may fluctuate with recipe level (I was doing top-level gear, and it seems like early stuff is easier to learn), but it's a good benchmark for the most desirable stuff.
  3. Oh, I hear you. I really think--as another poster inferred--that the probability of learning a T2 schematic is 5%, but the chance of getting a specific version of T2 is not equal. I've always--always--received General's (+Presence) first, and with my current project (Redoubt Hyperaccelerated Shield Generator) I've received everything *but* Veracity (+Shield), so it really does seem like the chance is skewed towards the less desirable prefixes.
  4. Just an update on the Reverse Engineering progress of the Redoubt Hyperaccelerated Shield Generator: I've Reverse Engineered 160 of these shields since I began counting and I have acquired two new prefixes. I got General's before I started counting; afterwards I learned Exactitude and Anti-Armor. So in total, I have 2 learns out of those 160, and 6 "already learned" messages. I am very evenly averaging 1 T2 learn attempt per 20 shields, or a 5% learn rate. If this information holds true for other crafts, you can estimate approximately 100 crafts to get your desired T2 prefix for Critical/Power and 80 crafts to get your desired T2 prefix for Defense.
  5. I just wanted to share a cautionary tale about Reverse Engineering that seems more or less in line with the experiences others have shared. I am an Artifice currently working on the highest shield generator: Hyperaccelerated Shield Generator. I got all three tier 1 recipes in a reasonable frame, and my first tier 2 (General's) after somewhere between 20 and 30 Redoubt Hyperaccelerated Shield Generator RE's. After that, I haven't seen another tier 2 since. At one point, I decided to start counting, and since that point I am 0/89 on tier 1->2, with 4 "already learned" hits. That would place the tier 2 discovery rate somewhere in the neighborhood of 5%, which is not unreasonable all things considered. What *is* unreasonable in my mind is the thought of hitting the same tier 2 five times in a row. It's possible, especially since Redoubt is bugged, but 1:1024 is... well, let's just say after >356 blue mats I'm not having fun anymore.
